Well, you've read the notes, the notes hearted writing, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they heart not coming home, apparently.
-
And the word of the day is: CONTERMINOUS!
-
Wednesday morning greetings from gloriously sunny Norwich! We have a full day ahead, including a visit to the Cathedral library and a lot of time with the music program. First lecture is about to begin - vibes for all!
-
For DR Jane or Cillaliz, are many ebooks available for lending at B&N? I don't buy that many full price books at amazon so I am not sure how many of their ebooks are available for loaning. Although I have noticed a book or two I have that says it is available.
-
Also re why someone might not want to lend an ebook. I would think the main reason would be if you have not read/finished it (since it disappears from your device while the other person has it.)
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
Good morning, all.
Woke at 5:30 a.m. following a dream about an approaching tornado, which took place somewhere in the Midwest. What I was doing there, I have no idea. But I found myself wide awake, with no excessive tiredness or Oys or anything else, laid there for a bit and got joined for a while by a cat or two, then finally decided at 6:20 that there was nothing to do but get up.
So here I am, drinking a Dunkin' Donuts K-cup of coffee, which is pricey but not bad at all. No sir, not bad at all.
-
;D
-
It's cold, I'm cold. The oven is on to warm the place up. I have no heater, just the oven. Since I'm only home and awake for an hour in the morning it works just fine. And very cheap.
-
I put 20 lbs back on last year. Not by eating more, but just because I stopped walking every day.
I tried walking the mall after work because of the cold, but it's just not the same as being outside.
:(
Might just have to get used to the cold, and WALK.
-
Must get ready for work.
Mega vibes everyone.
:)
-
Great pictures. ;D
-
Good morning, all.
Vibes and waves of warmth for DR Sam.
Great news on Karen Morrow, BK. She's a wonder.
-
Good morning. My cereal is soggy. :-[

Good morning, all! I had another round of weird dreams, but I realize my last dream about Lotte Lenya and the Kurt Weill Foundation may have been prompted by anemail from the Foundation yesterday that led to a discussion of the new Mordden book on Weill and Lenya. The dream was fun; something about my runnng into Lenya in Europe and running around with her. I remember nothing of an earlier dream now except for the fact that it had something to do with a car crash at Goldman Avenue and Florence street, about three blocks from where I grew up.
Another day today at Toyland: I'll finish my cpffee and head out. I have to deal with a McGlinn Estate inquiry from the Library of Congress. Oy!
-
Well yesterday we had dancing chili peppers, dolphins, and new dogs.
It was a great day.
Continued vibes for DR MATTHEW.
Last night's dreams for DR CHAS SMITH and DR ELMORE are both anxiety and acceptance dreams that reflect an unknown element that has you puzzled.

Work vibes for DR CILLA LIZ....congrats on the weight loss! Great!
-
I don't like these dull, dark winter mornings :(
-
Good morning. Back to work today. Students will receive a demo on the ukelele and mandolin, the latter I'll need to learn very quickly. It'll be too too fun, though.
-
I don't like these dull, dark winter mornings :(
Me neither. And the rains won't stop.
-
Greetings from Toyland!
-
Asking BK:
You, I believe, read the original screenplay for CHINATOWN.
How what was the original ending?
Thanks.
-
Closing in on the final few pages (of the first draft) of my Basil Rathbone play....
-
I'm about to head off on the train to Canary Wharf - London's mini-Manhattan - to meet friends for a drink.
-
Good morning, all. AGAIN.
What a surprise. After being up so early this morning, all the missed sleep suddenly rushed back and made itself known, and I went back to bed for a follow-up snooze. A snooze, mind you. Well, that follow-up snooze lasted three hours, and here I am at 10:30. That hardly ever happens. I mean, almost no more than a hurricane in Hartford, Hereford, etc.
And a dream or two, yes, but they're slipping away fast. Nothing too odd this time, methinks.
-
Closing in on the final few pages (of the first draft) of my Basil Rathbone play....
They cut his song in Cole Porter's Aladdin. Bummer. It was the last song Porter ever wrote, "Wouldn't It Be Fun (Not to be famous)."
-
Congrats on the weight loss, Cillaliz. I hope I can follow your lead.
-
Last night I went through the last of what used to be MANY boxes of home-grown VHS tapes, mostly movies recorded off the "air", many still unavailable on disc or which I simply want/need to watch once before tossing them. Got a couple of things watched and tossed, which felt good, and I really wish I could toss the lot in one fell swoop since storage is always at a premium and needs to be dedicated to DVD and Blu-ray. But man, that is so much easier said than done. I need to devote a few evenings to just sitting down and schlepping through these last couple of dozen tapes, watching whatever it is I was keeping them for, and kiss 'em off.
-
There will still be maybe a dozen things I "have to" keep, but that's acceptable when you consider the original number was well over 200 tapes. It's taken me a year and a half to get them down to this number. The core of that material, the stuff I do love and go back to, has been replaced with proper DVDs, etc., and of course a little of it wasn't worth replacing at all. At least I can say without hesitation that I'm much better now in knowing what to acquire. I recently went through my hundreds of DVDs and BLUs and found the collection to be so tight that only two things came out. When I know I'm that careful, I can live with the shelves and shelves and shelves of it. In fact, I WANT to live with all those shelves of it. They just have to be the RIGHT things, then all is justifiable.
-
And if all of that does nothing else, it at least brings us to
PAGE TWO.
-
Yes, I did that a couple of years ago DR CHAS SMITH......I was doing some video to DVD conversion for the theatre, so while I had the equipment.....I did my own. Of course I had to keep a few RETAIL videos that were copy protected.....but sent four storage bins of videos that I now own on DVD to the Amvets.......
-
I wish I'd thought of someplace worthy to send mine to, but I didn't quite get that far in my thinking back when I first took the plunge.
And commercial ones still unreleased on disc -- yes, my remainders include a few of those. I think at my peak of tape accumulation, I had maybe 100 commercial VHS and the 200-plus off-the-air ones. The commercial ones did get donated to local libraries for their annual sales. The library sales in this area have been very good to me over the years, and I am good to them.
-
Yes, DR Jrand and DR ChasSmith, going through and paring down those VHS tapes is such a nice feeling.
I think that I have only one or two VHS tapes, at most, now. Everything else that I would have wanted to keep are now on DVD and I was happy to donate the old commercial VHS to charity...where they probably are still sitting, gathering dust...but better there than taking up room here.
-
I do have a DVD-VHS recorder, and should get cracking on converting the remaining personal tapes.
As for the commercial ones, whatever would one do without Bert I. Gordon's THE AMAZING COLOSSAL MAN and William Castle's THE NIGHT WALKER? I ask you!

I've had some doozies. In one, some years back, I was around some venue or other where Gorbachev was visiting, and seemed to be on casual speaking terms with him and the security staff.

DR ChasSmith, last year I started on a project to convert my "must-save" VHS tapes to DVD. I actually completed a number of them, but as I began work on the 1983 Tony Awards I began to get discouraged because the video drops and distortions would cause the signal from my video tape player to my PC to cut-off the recording. From what I've read I need to invest in a high-end VHS player and costlier video software for the PC. Not sure I want to go that route.

I'm up, I'm up. Have to call AT&T right now because my phone is behaving weirdly. If I don't pick it up INSTANTLY (which I don't because I need to see who's calling) I'm suddenly, out of the blue, getting a fax tone, only I've never had a fax machine here (my printer has one but I've never even configured it for faxing and it's not hooked up to the phone line). This just started happening yesterday morning and it's really irritating.

I have never dreamt of Lotte Lenya.

The original Chinatown ending is okay - not as nihilistic as what it was changed to, but I firmly believe Polanski was right to ask for the change, and I believe Towne has realized that over the years.

T.O.D.
ASK BK DAY!
How do you really feel about writing?
-
Just wrote four new pages, that's how I feel. That was after finessing stuff from yesterday's writing. AT&T will be here at some point today to figure out what's what.
-
From DR Cilla:
DR Jane, my bad not BN. Just went back and found the email that said Keith wanted to borrow a book. Guess I saw BN and just assumed it was another ad. Sorry
That's ok. I'm relieved to know it went through correctly.
A woman in my book group had her email compromised and sent one of those, I stranded, letters begging for money. That was followed my an email from another member with a similar opening so I deleted it without reading. I got to the meeting yesterday and walking in someone mentioned how sad about Annette. Oops! Annette had to drop out of the group & had not sent spam. Since I'm the organizer of our group and, obviously, needed to write Annette back that would have been a big mistake. Not lending me the book was no big deal :)
-
Oh, DR Cilla, since I had made the request in the middle of the night I wasn't expecting an immediate response.
-
Also re why someone might not want to lend an ebook. I would think the main reason would be if you have not read/finished it (since it disappears from your device while the other person has it.)
True, however, from now on if I don't receive a response I'll check if the person received my request to borrow or lend. I have an ok selection of books that can be lent while DR Cilla has a better one. It was DR td who first introduced me to lending & borrowing by sending me a book to read.

A new study of more than 260,000 people has found a link between sweetened soft-drinks and depression -- and diet sodas may be making matters worse.

I just wish I had known how destructive soda would be on my bones.

DR Sam, what kind of place do you live in that doesn't have heat? House, apartment, cottage, etc.? None of the above? You certainly don't need MUCH heat in Southern California, but you do need SOME, and I don't recall knowing of places that didn't have any.

We need to get off of page 2.

Almost there.

Interesting article DR JOHN G - I don't think I have paid much attention to the Billboard charts for years......certainly downloading has made it a whole new world in music.

It can be cold and damp near the ocean. I believe Ventura is even cooler than Santa Monica.

Now, I'll let it sit for a week or so before I read it.

DR DanTheMan, I gave up on the PC way of converting VHS to DVD...I find that my Panasonic DVD/VHS recorder transfers tapes very easily.

Right. The one place I lived where I experienced the "damp" cold feeling in winter was Redondo Beach, and I was right next to the ocean. But the little electric in-wall heaters in the living room and bedroom took care of that. And oh, to have those days back. I remember the feeling of dread when I knew the winter electric bills would go as high as $45.
-
It was also the only place where I had, and needed, NO air-conditioning, the exception being usually one week around August when some humidity would build up, even there at the beach.

Exactly. When I was looking at them, the Panasonic had the reputation for being the least troublesome of them all, and I'll bet it still is.

Twilight Time shipment got here today, and even though we all already knew this, I have to say the EXPERIMENT IN TERROR Blu-ray is drop dead gorgeous.
This one has to be one of the highest ranking in my pantheon of late 50s / early 60s black and white films.

I am home after running several errands.
Now I am wondering why the hell a package sent on Dec 14 to Dublin has not yet arrived.

For about five years, I lived in a one-bedroom apartment in Lacey (about 10 miles away from where I live now) and during those five years, my electric bill was never more than $25. Oh, to have those days back, too.

I have two Panasonic stand-alone DVD burners (they're the same model) with 80GB hard drives. I use them just like VCRs but can edit out content like commercials. I've had them a few years and really love them. :)
-
My coworker who discovered them and told me about them said that newer models (of any brand) seem to no longer have hard drives...you can only burn directly to DVDs with no editing. I really don't like that.

At my book group discussion I was told that Ray Bradbury is the reason his books are not available as eBooks. I can understand his reason for this. I just wish I could explain my need for eBooks to him.

I'm very excited! My friend Ben Davis' movie is finally being released in the USA!

The English version in the film is by Stephen Fry. I already own the PAL edition, and the film is quite imaginative.

They just have to be the RIGHT things, then all is justifiable.
DR DanTheMan, I gave up on the PC way of converting VHS to DVD...I find that my Panasonic DVD/VHS recorder transfers tapes very easily.
Hmmm... I remember you mentioning it before, DR MB. Can you post the model number? It's prolly not available anymore, but I could look to see if there's something current like it. TIA!

Every time I initially start watching a movie starring Warren William, I think he is one of the worst actors ever. But by the time the movie is finished, he's won me over. How did he swing that trick time after time?

Good morning, all.
Woke at 5:30 a.m. following a dream about an approaching tornado, which took place somewhere in the Midwest. What I was doing there, I have no idea. But I found myself wide awake, with no excessive tiredness or Oys or anything else, laid there for a bit and got joined for a while by a cat or two, then finally decided at 6:20 that there was nothing to do but get up.
So here I am, drinking a Dunkin' Donuts K-cup of coffee, which is pricey but not bad at all. No sir, not bad at all.
Approaching tornadoes are reoccurring dreams of mine.
:)

Aren't the tornadoes a woman's roller derby team?

What a cuckoo day.

What a cuckoo day.
Amen to that.

Catching up with Downton Abbey season premiere finally. Fun.
-
I got to work early and finessed quite a bit, then had a short couple of visits from a couple of people, then had to deal with a telephonic problem that's been going on since yesterday, namely if I pick up the phone after the second ring a high pitched squeal goes off, like a fax tone but worse. I called AT&T and they said they'd come as soon as possible.
-
Then I wrote about four pages.
-
Then the Telephone Man arrived and after about twenty minutes he's ascertained that it wasn't my phone and it wasn't their service. So, he tried the only thing left and unplugged the phone line from the alarm system, and voila everything was fine. But we can't unplug that because then the alarm goes off.
-
So, I went to my lunch appointment, which was fun. Then I came home and began a series of truly surrealistic and frustrating telephonic calls with ADT the security system people. Their first appointment to deal with this was two weeks from now. I told them in that case that I wanted to shut the system down until they came, so the phone will work properly. But because it's not really my account (my name is on it, but I don't pay the bills and I'm not the real contact person) they wouldn't do anything until I gave them a password I don't have and names of people on the account, some of which I do have, but not the correct phone numbers.
-
I then got hold of the house owner's business manager, who is who I deal with and he gave me the super secret password. That didn't work either. So, he finally called them and it turns out that all the information on the account is ancient and no one knows anything and there IS no super secret password that anyone can remember. The only way they'll send out a new password is by regular mail. So, they told the business manager that I can shut it down by opening the alarm system box. They were going to talk me through that, but I went in the closet to do so - there's a key in the lock, but the key won't turn and the lock won't open and so I can't get in there to shut it down.
-
So, the business manager is changing alarm companies and will have someone come out and deal with this shortly. He's also going to come by the house and finally see the work that needs to be done, and that will get done soon. So, I have to tell everyone to call my cell phone until this is fixed. If I pick up the phone before the first ring is done then it's all right, so that's my option.
-
All that took close to two hours, after which I wrote another couple of pages, but I just wasn't in the mood at that point.
-
The good news was that Muse Margaret called and really liked the pages - other than one typo and me clarifying one thing for her (having to do with the way I described a hairdo), she didn't have one thing she wanted me to fix. She loves the story so far, loves the way it opens, and really loves the dialogue. So, that made me VERY happy.
-
I then watched the final two episodes of The Killing III - a bit of a let-down ultimately, with a very strange ending. Apparently there will be no more of this series.
-
Operator! Get me Franz Kafka, please. It's an emergency! Yes, I'll hold.
-
Now I'm trying to have some energy to write at least six more pages, more if possible. I don't really need to watch anything else tonight, so I'll just plug along and see how far I get.
-
Now, if someone can explain to me exactly who is missing from this here site these last few days, causing us to barely be on page four, I shall properly bitch-slap them from here to eternity and hell and back.
-
Good start to the new season of Downton, though I thought the pace dragged a little in the second half. Maybe it's just because I'm tired and the memory needed to run the program left me without much ability to use the Internet otherwise.
-
It was also the only place where I had, and needed, NO air-conditioning, the exception being usually one week around August when some humidity would build up, even there at the beach.
My mom's college roommate and her family lived in Redondo Beach, so both of our summer vacations in Southern California were spent in that city (when we weren't playing tourist).
-
Any suggestions on good music to exercise to? I've listened to Eileen, the London Promises, Promises and the new Pipe Dream, all of which worked. Now. Here. This. didn't. Neither did The Road to Qatar.
Cyndi Lauper's "Kinky Boots" was really good, but I generally dislike that kind of technopop stuff.
Suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Five.

Welcome, 3 guests.

I'm awfully tired. I'm headed off to bed. Night, all.

Hello I am finally virus free

So sorry for being E & T

First of all I got my PET scan results yesterday the patented HHW ViBES came through again

Every time I initially start watching a movie starring Warren William, I think he is one of the worst actors ever. But by the time the movie is finished, he's won me over. How did he swing that trick time after time?
And see, I rarely get past 10 minutes of a Warren William film.
-
Hurrah, DR Vixmom!!
-
I managed to download a virus into my computer the other day - I got a poe up telling me to run my virus software - Vixdad assures me that our virus software will never randomly pop up and ask one to do that but I am foolish and was suckered in
Vixdad had to strip down the computer to make the virus go away
-
He just finished so I am not caught up
-
and sinceit is past 11 I will probably not catch up today
-
today was a pretty long, trying and miserable day - I finally got home just past 9 and discovered a box addressed to me had been delivered and what to my wondering eye did appear?
-
Two opera DVDs from dear Elmore
-
DR DanTheMan, it turns out my DVD/VHS recorder is a Magnavox, not a Panasonic. Model is ZV427MG9, it it is swell!
-
Thank you so much, you sweet man! You rescued the day from being a total misery and ended it on a very bright note for me!

OH! Is this something you can buy currently or is this something that you've had a while? - I have been thinking I really should try and convert these VHS I have into DVDs

-
Good night all!
-
Oh but I had a dream on Sunday morning that was sooooooooooo weird
-
this one is almost as involved as one of Elmores! (but fewer guest stars! LOL)
-
So JRand - crank up the dreamomatic--
-
I dreamt I was scheduled assisting minister and when I arrived to church I discovered that no one from Altar Guild had set up communion - so I rushed into the ready room only to discover that some one had filled all the silver chalices with lettuce , cocktail sauce and cooked shrimp creating very fancy shrimp cocktails - the silver plate for the host was piled high with raw shrimp and a very chubby 7 year old boy wearing a acolyte cassock was making peanut butter sandwiches using the host as bread. When I endeavored to stop him he began loudly bawling that he hadn't had any breakfast and that he had to play 3 games (which I somehow understood to be soccer)
Meanwhile I could hear that the church was filling up with parishioners and the communion still wasn't set and I wasn't sure if all the serving ware was now desecrated or could just be washed and used and knew the sexton would be furious if I dumped the shrimp into the garbage...
and then the Vixter woke me up for church
-
probably that dream will be best appreciated by Laura and Ginny
-
so off to bed --- perchance to dream....
-
Hello, everyone.
VERY glad to hear from Vixmom and her PET scan results!! Keep up the good work!
-
As BK applies himself to writing his latest book I apply myself to my tax prep.
The bad news: I discovered today that I had done a piece of it some months ago and I have absolutely NO recollection of it! Ugh! How disconcerting!
The good news: that piece is done. :P

6 lbs lost by just skipping the nickers? < that's what I typed!!>

DR Chas, over the years many, many of us have told stories of decluttering/tossing/culling. Oh, my, yes! But I think that DR JRand has earned the title of King of Decluttering, with his stories of tossing HOW MANY bags of stuff? Of course, I'm referring to tossing in general, not just tapes or DVDs, but I think you can relate to it.

Oy!
I have never dreamt of Lotte Lenya.
My dreams seem to have fantastic supporting casts.
I do hope that when Larry writes his memoirs there will be at least one volume devoted to his dreams. They are fantastic!

I've had some doozies. In one, some years back, I was around some venue or other where Gorbachev was visiting, and seemed to be on casual speaking terms with him and the security staff.
;D

Mandolin in the classroom today - learned a few chords - did a demo with the guitar, mandolin, and ukelele. Rockstar Status!!!
Sounds fun!

Doesn't say much for the alarm company, does it? I wonder how many people think they're protected when in fact their alarm company has outdated information.

I used to enjoy working out to the Pointer Sisters. Jason Graae's YOU'RE NEVER FULLY DRESSED WITHOUT A SMILE was my favorite while on the stationary bike.

Vixmom has such an extensive vocabulary! I'm not quite sure what "sinceit" means, but I like it!

Hi, Tom. Sorry, I didn't see you at first.
-
Last night I was watching LOST EMPIRES. Was it Larry who mentioned it recently? I had never heard of it before, but it's quite interesting.
-
I am sorry for toddling off after having been amongst the missing but I am terribly tired
It's okay, we love you anyway.

TTFN.

Hi, Tom. Sorry, I didn't see you at first.
Hi Jeanne, I am catching up.
-
Okay, I have now caught up.
-
And I am alone again - naturally!
-
I knew there was a reason I was watching this stupid PEOPLE'S CHOICE AWARD. And that reason would be Steven Arnell from ARROW. Sadly, he decided to wear clothes.
-
One more.
-
Well, my work here is done.
G'night!

How about Mamma Mia, or original songs by ABBA? :D

Back from a lovely evening. And that's all I'll say about that.
