Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of Olga Smirnov, and now it is time for you to post until the Olga Smirnov Cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: BRABBLE!
-
According to the HHW calendar, today is the birthday of someone named Juliana, but she hasn't posted any posts. Could this be the very same aforementioned Juliana A. Hansen??
-
good morning
-
Last night my office had a "fun night" this took the place of our normal holiday party and it was really nice Uusally we go to a fancyrestaurant sit andhave a meal and you can only really chat with whomever you are sitting near
-
This time we went to a local bowling alley. this place is huge and they have (at least) two private rooms which have 8 lanes and a buffet table- we had a couple of waiters who brought whatever drinks you wanted (I am a ginger ale drinker at these occassions but the margaritas and martinis were coming and going with great abandon all around me)
-
Then there were trays of appetizers, "sliders" chicken tenders with assorted sauces, coconut shrimp with assorted sauces, and then dinner came in , ceaser salad, garlic bread, linguini (with a choice of alfredo ro marinara) sausage and peppers, a roasted vegetable dish, chicken piccata, chicken parm.....
-
and we were divided up into teams of 4 or 5 and played two games at the end there were prizes for all the teams
-
Friday morning greetings! Waiting for the snow to start...
-
DR Vixmom - sounds like a fun evening!
-
The team with the worst score got silly hats, bottles of wine and scratch off lottery tickets, my team had the most spares so we got the "spare change" prize which was a bag of dollars and change which came to $30, the team with the most strikes got the gold strike award and they each got a bag with $30 in gold coins, the top scorers got the red hot award gift cards to Chili's
it was a lot of fun
-
and that is why I was E & T last night
-
Today is the birthday of my Dad - 83
-
So I must away to Panera to get him a danish ring before I go to theoffice

Today is the birthday of my Dad - 83
Happy Birthday to Vixgrandad!

Answering DR TCB's question of last night:
According to IMDb, LILITH was released here in Sept. 1964, so I was close to 15. I was going to a few of the more "arty" films that came around then, but this one passed me by or I passed it by. I've always been aware of it as kind of an iconic title, and I'm now delighted to have made its acquaintance and to have given it a home on the royal shelf.
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
I slept late today.
-
I survived another week at work.
-
Tonight we will watch Dinner at Eight. We both just read a bio of Marie Dressler so we are looking forward to the movie.
I'm waiting for Season 4 of Waiting for God. It's on reserved at the library. Then Season 5 and then The Grand and then we will start One Foot in the Grave, which Anthony loves (and I know Anthony's parents and Vixmom also think it's a great series). We will watch Downton on Sunday
-
Tomorrow we are going to The New Victory Theatre at 11am to see
Erth's Dinosaur Zoo (http://www.newvictory.org/Show-Detail.aspx?ProductionId=4747)
It's an early birthday present from a friend. I'm looking forward to it. Sounds like a lot of fun.
The
New Victory Theatre (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Victory_Theater)
is a gorgeous old space built in 1900. It went through many phases but in 1990 began to show legit theatre again and in 1995 it re-opened after extensive renovations. It's a jewel box and I love it.

Today is the birthday of my Dad - 83
Hapy Birthday to the Dad of Vixmom!
-
;D
-
I saw cars hydroplane on the freeway yesterday.
It rained for the whole drive to work. ;D
I love the rain. :)
-
Managed to listen to a cd last night.
Duke Ellington, In Grand Company.
Then off to the boyfriends. Boyfriends take up a lot of time. Which is why I have no time. 8)
-
Sounds like everyone is very busy. 8)
-
Mega vibes for everyone.
Mega vibes for everyone's Friday.
Mega vibes for everyone's weekend.
;)
-
Off to work I go.
;D
-
Good morning, all! It's another chilly morning in Manhattan.
I will head down to Toyland this morning and work on a couple of ROBERTA numbers. I believe that Joshie has a question about harmonizing a section of a score that he's working on, so I'll help him with that. After that, I'll head home and see what fresh hell awaits me here.
TOD:
DVD: they're taking over the apartment; I need to get organized
CD: Mr Magoo's Christmas Carol, Do-Re-Mi, Guy Haines,
VCR: Smut
-
Today I need to fill a gas can or two for the snow blower, as it appears we're getting some of that white stuff tonight, hopefully not too much.
Also could use some foodstuffs, so, no choice but to join the panic shoppers.
-
TOD:
CD - still plugging away at ADRIFT IN MaCOW
Turntable - Previn, Manne, etc., playing WEST SIDE STORY
Blu-ray - THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH (1934)
-
And....it's snowing!
-
TOD:
Blu-ray: INDISCREET. One of those films which has a high nostagia element for me. The central London apartment where the film is set always reminded me of my aunt and uncle's London apartment where I often visited. My parents had a house in the tranquil London suburbs but my aunt and uncle, by contrast, led a more active, sophisticated, city life - which at the time I thought of as more exciting.
DVD: KONGA & YOUNGARY (MGM Midnite Movies). More nostalgia! As a teenager I loved these monster movies. I saw KONGA when it was first released, which contains one of the all-time greatest over-the-top performances by Michael Gough.
-
At last, the weather is promised to start getting warmer tomorrow - but not before another dollop of snow lands tonight!
-
I just had a lovely Facebook chat with conductor John Wilson. He was in Manhattan yesterday for Richard Rodney Bennett's funeral. I'll see him in March when he's back.
-
DR Vixmom that sounds like a fun night. Happy Birthday to your dad!
-
Today, I received a pckage from Amazon Italy which was mailed on December 2. So it took nearly two months to arrive. My all-time record in delays is a package posted from the U.S. which took three months to arrive.
I had already reported it's non-arrival in mid December and had received a replacement from Amazon Italy, which arrived only few days later. I thought this package was going to be the first ever item which I could say went missing in the mail - despite having received many hundreds (thousands?) of items over the years. It only confirms that, in my experience, everything arrives eventually!
-
TOD:
I've got CASINO JACK and NIGHT FLIGHT recorded; will probably watch those.
Might also go rent THE PAPERBOY.
-
Snowing today.....not A LOT....but enough to be bothersome.
-
DR DOUG R - I have never seen a Gough performance that wasn't over the top.....but certainly producer Herman Cohen hired him to do it that way......
-
Good morning.
That's all I got.
-
TOD:
DVD - Agony and the Ecstasy - which I remember mostly from the MAD magazine version The Agony and the Agony
CD - nothing

Oh my GAWD.
BK has mentioned this a few times and it got me curious, so this morning I thought I'd pick a forum, search on the word "slipcovers", and sample a few threads.
I chose bluray.com, but I'm sure you can find this on AVS or any number of other huge forums.
Stunned.
An example of the "collecting" mentality at its worst? I'm almost speechless. Almost.
-

I don't think I've seen either one of those. I'll keep my eye open for this one.

It's Friday, and I actually read Filichia without having to be reminded.
Failed the test, though. At best, I knew about half a dozen of those. I'm terribly with lyrics. Absolutely terrible.
-
I'm not too great at writing the word "terrible", either.

Slipcovers are just a marketing tool. I don't understand why people would want to collect them. I always throw mine away.

I could only ID 9 of the shows and I'd have to look up some of the song titles.

DVD:
Just got the the new release from 20th Century Fox' MOD, THUNDER ISLAND (1963) starring Brian Kelly (of FLIPPER fame) and Fay Spain. Have wanted to see the movie for as long as I can remember, as I do love me some Brian Kelly.

If my luck is good I may also have, via the DVR, the Mamie Van Doren film GUNS, GIRLS, AND GANGSTERS to watch this weekend, but I am not remembering when it airs. I just remember that earlier this month I set the DVR to record it.

DR JRand, did you know that Mamie recently released a new album? It is available for download on Amazon.com. I think she even has a couple of music videos from it on Youtube.

Happy Friday, all and assorted sundried!
Mostly good night for sleep last night....two wakeups after some minor sweats...did not keep me up too long.
Still feeling weird. I'm looking forward to the weekend!

No snow here yet. I won't mind a coating of an inch or two. Once I get home, that is...
-
I'm up. It's kinda raining out - you know, dribbling.
-
A very happy haineshisway.com birthday to Juliana.

Close to two hours since the last post. This will not sit well with Mr. BK.
-
I guess it is up to me to keep things moving.

So has anyone seen the biggest Bollywood hit of 2011, STUDENT OF THE YEAR?
I watched it on DVD last week and it deserves all of the accolades that it was getting. The 3 leads are all making their debuts. The two male leads were fantastic. The female lead was ok...but she had little to do as the film seemed to focus more on the two guys...and why wouldn't it!

Nice photo....which one was student of the year?
-
Interesting fact: both actors are facebook friends of mine. Although the one on the right posts quite often about assorted things, the one on the left rarely posts anything.
Another interesting fact: The producer/director kept both actors living in his home while making the filming...he felt it would be best so that he could more easily "coach" and "rehearse" them. The newby actress was not invited to live at the house, oddly enough.
-

I can't reveal that information. You must see the movie to know.
It really is an enjoyable movie with LOTS of musical numbers! And a few lovely scenes on the beach as well ;)

Back in September, TCM had a month-long tribute to Mack Sennett. Each Thursday night, they shows shorts and full-length silent (and a few talking) movies that Sennett made from 1909 to 1933. One of them was Marie Dressler's very first movie (it was silent) when she was 45 years old. It was pretty darned funny! :D

It was a poor day at Toyland: for the third time in two months, the internet was out: four days in December, one day a couple of weeks ago, and now today. I couldn't accomplish a lot of what I needed to do today, and I'm very pissed about it.
So, I'm home and needing something warm to eat or drink.

Went and had a bagel to tide me over and proofed Chapter One - lots of little tidying up things, but it read very well.

Maybe Walnut Creek? Is that a place?
Bruce, this made me chuckle. I had never heard of it until we were house hunting in the Bay Area. Since then I can't count the number of people I've met from there, most who now live in Southern Oregon.

Well, I survived the Cowboy Breakfast, which started at 4:30 a.m. By 5 a.m., when I showed up, several thousand had already arrived and lines for food were enormously long, but they moved fast. The weather could not have been better. It was in the low 60s and the breeze was light.

Just yesterday I looked up "prolly". I knew what the word meant but not that is was an actual slang word.

Tomorrow are auditions for Miss Saigon, I keep forgetting. For being a 4 day week, it sure has been busy.

Last night I began a book which I finished this morning. That's what happens when I wake up at 2:00am. Due to my sleepless nights I have read two excellent books since returning home.
The first book was THE HEADHUNTERS by Jo Nesbo. I read a detective series he wrote. This was is completely different and my favorite book of his.
Last nights book was THE TRUE STORY OF HANSEL AND GRETEL by Louise Murphy. Loosely based on the fairy tale this is the story of two Jewish children in Poland who are renamed Hansel & Gretel before being left in the woods to hide from the Nazi's.

Oh no - I am am sorry I guess I didn't explain it right - we did do the gift exchange the Friday before Christmas
One of my brokers kindly sent in lunch from Ben's Kosher Deli (UNBELIEVABLY good ) fresh baked rye bread, corned beef, roast beef, turkey breast, coleslaw, pickles, mustard SO good -- so we had that and our gift exchange - I git a $20 ift card to 7-11 which made me very happy because I like to stop there for coffee on the way to work

you need to brush him more - its because of the hairballs -- if you brush him at least once a week it willhelp alleviate the problem I also use to give my cat something the vet gave me - I don't remember the name of it (my cats been gone for about 11 years now) but it was like a gel in a tube - I would squeeze out about 1/4 inch and let him lick it ioff my finger - or put it on his food - he loved the taste and it help dissolve any ingested hair and prevent hairballs

and that's all I have to say about that

STOP FEELING WEIRD VIBES TO DEAR RONALD
-
It's snowing here as well
-
Just an inch or so so far but it managed to make the trip home very slippery
-
I intentionally stayed 45 minutes late today just so most of the traffic would be gone by time I ventured out
-
it worked beautifully
-
For dinner I had some chili and I fried up some hominy, which I haven't had in years. It was quite wonderful. I think I'll have some bean salad in a bit.

Staying in and watching movies. This Criterion release of Hitch's 1934 MAN WHO KNEW is astounding.

We have a very thin dusting, which has stopped before even giving us a complete covering of its li'l frigid white dust. There might be a little more yet, but this is one of those storms in which the farther north you are, the better. And gosh darn it, that's just the way I like it.
-
It is still super cold here. :(

:)
What happened to the gift exchange that was to be postponed until the party?
Oh no - I am am sorry I guess I didn't explain it right - we did do the gift exchange the Friday before Christmas
I only remembered it had been postponed. You probably talked about it-sorry. This party sounded like a lot of fun, or would have been when I could still bowl.

We had some snow late this afternoon--I guess about an inch. It's still freezing--about 22 degrees now.

From DR George:
And then I came home and my cat threw up.
I need reminders like this when I'm tempted to get another cat. I hope it was just a normal cat thing and not that something is wrong.
Nope, nothing wrong. It's a pretty normal occurance...unfortunately. :P
you need to brush him more - its because of the hairballs -- if you brush him at least once a week it willhelp alleviate the problem I also use to give my cat something the vet gave me - I don't remember the name of it (my cats been gone for about 11 years now) but it was like a gel in a tube - I would squeeze out about 1/4 inch and let him lick it ioff my finger - or put it on his food - he loved the taste and it help dissolve any ingested hair and prevent hairballs
It would have been a variation of Petromalt. I was always changing formula's to keep the cats interested. Brushing at least once a week is good. I usually did it every day for the long haired cats.
Throwing up isn't always a fur ball problem.

I intentionally stayed 45 minutes late today just so most of the traffic would be gone by time I ventured out
Good idea.

TOD:
DVD: Kings of Pastry
CD: Nick & Nora
Car CD: Sweet Little Devil, The Decline and Fall of the Entire World as Seen Through the Eyes of Cole Porter.
I cannot recall even a single note of music from the NICK & NORA cd.
You know, very little of it stays with me until I play it. But I remember a youtube video of DR George doing a dance to one of the numbers, if memory serves me correctly.
The whole show was misbegotten. Arthur Laurents violated the main tenet of Hammett's characters by making Nick and Nora have marital difficulties. In his stories, the couple's solidity -- and of course, their drinking -- is what grounded everything. When all the world goes crazy and bodies start piling up, Nick and Nora have each other and a cocktail shaker.

A good reason to listen anew!

For my mystery-obsessed friend Bonnie, Nesbo has replaced Steig Larssen as her favorite writer today.

It's really not a furball issue. I tried the squeeze stuff, but she just wouldn't eat it. I've gotten used to cleaning up after her every couple of weeks.

Have you tried the various flavors?

Have you tried the various flavors?
Umm...no. I didn't know about (or think about looking for) other flavors. I just had the tube that the vet gave me.
I must check this out more thoroughly.

I prefer the second two books in The Millennium-trilogy to Nesbo's Harry Hole series. I was rather disappointed in the last Nesbo book in the series which I read recently. THE HEADHUNTERS took me by surprise.

There are several different brands as well. If you scrape some behind the front teeth & briefly hold the mouth shut it does get swallowed ;)

It's just that Steig isn't with us anymore, I guess.

Some cats cough up hairballs and/or throw up their food much more frequently than others, but it's a fact of cat life. Something like that every couple of weeks is well within the range of normal. As far as hairballs are concerned, all you can do is try to get them used to frequent combings and brushings, and try to find a flavor of petromalt that they like. Mine have gone on and off it, sometimes being more than willing to lick a bit off my finger, other times turning their little snooty cat noses up at it.

Lately I keep reading horrible stories of police officers shooting & killing dogs. This one is a sweet story of a rescue.

Be sure to watch the video and listen to the dog wag his tail.

Well, I don't think I've seen the 1934 "MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH" since the 1980s, and this was most enjoyable. Listening to the commentary track now.

I believe this might be the start of a little early-Hitchcock binge.

Love that movie. Surprisingly violent for the time period.

I've managed to get through most of the PBS version of the musical "A Tale of Two Cities," and it's utter bunk.

Night, all.

Almost.
Hmm, I was just thinking today that my old recliner could use a slip cover

Boo is allergic to wheat gluten. If the food has wheat gluten in it, she will throw up. She still gets hairballs, but doesn't get sick like she does with the wheat gluten

Jane, I saw the film version of Headhunters - very enjoyable - I'm sure I wrote about it here. I have a few of Nesbo's Brit first editions (the true firsts in English).

Back from too much fun with our very own Mr. Brent Barrett.
Sounds like great fun! Did anyone take any pictures? I saw Cathy Rigby perform in Seussical: The Musical quite a few years ago and she was fantastic.
-
I also Brent perform in Kiss Me, Kate in London and he was fantastic, too! However, he was the only one in the cast who didn't come out at the stage door, so I never got to meet him or get a photo or an autograph. :'(
;)

I'm sure this is the latest/earlliest I've ever posted. After falling asleep at about 9 pm, I've been awake since about 2:30. Watched Jack Benny on antenna tv. Now watching Frasier.

I'm glad you had fun at Peter Pan, BK! As if there was any doubt!
