Good morning, all!

I stayed up too late watching Kathy Griffin, so the lights weren't out before 11:15. I got out of bed around 7:45am, and I'll shortly head down to Toyland.  I need to stop at Penn Station and pick up my New Jersey Transit tickets for Monday.   Perhaps I'll do the laundry this afternon, depending on the time I return and the weather.

That's about all of my news for now.

Good morning, all.

Storm doesn't get here "for real" till this afternoon.  We might be getting a little bit of what DR vixmom has, but that's the southern portion pushing north.  The fun begins when the two systems converge.  Enjoying the calm before it.

More coffee, if you don't mind.

Astroburger or Astro Burger?

It was always two words for my way of thinking, but I know the locations are different.  But the signage on the Santa Monica Blvd. one is two words, in case you want to make the distinction.  Two photos here:

Greetings from Toyland!  No new scores for me, although I know some are about ready. This tardiness concerns me because, when the old job closed us down, I was barraged with questions about work: will we go back to it? can you tell someone I need it? Now that we're on a deadline, people certainly take their time.

My nephew and fiancee (sp?) arrived in LaGuardia and are waiting for their flight at 11 am.  It still showed ontime a few minutes ago when I checked online.  Fingers crossed!

So depressing.  I'm glad I don't live in Los Angeles any longer.  I don't have to witness it.

BTW: I was one of the last 2 people to interview Mary Pickford.  I wrote a piece on her for Coronet Magazine.

DVD: OTHELLO (Welles) Hadn't seen this before but I was reading about the problems with the film and thought I'd take a look. Great visuals but the dialogue is not always easy to make out. Good job the Korean DVD has sub-titles!

TV: Watched THE WRECK OF THE MARIE DEARE  in HD on TCM. Excellent HD picture quality. I saw this when it was first released and thought it an excellent film - very well made - although it seems to be largely forgotten today. The scenes filmed (supposedly at sea) in the studio tank are extremely impressive and realistic.

Greetings from the DR Matthew and DD Ben cave.  (need to work on that greeting)

Today's agenda, funeral this morning (in which "More" will be played) Callbacks for the coat show and then a performance of the pink show.  I've tried to make it easier to remember so I've narrowed the titles down to one word.  Pink, Coat, Drowsy (duh), Web, Saigon and Poppins.   I know, some aren't very creative, but Helicopter is too long and the Charlotte show sounds like something that's not kid friendly.

MEdia Check:

Blu-Ray:  CABARET, THE QUIET MAN

CD:  THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD revival, CABARET with Dame Judi

These may very well be the last CDs i purchase in a while.  Last week I discovered Spotify and I'm hooked!  There has thus far been very few cast recordings I haven't been able to find on it.  I've been able to find quite a number of out-of-print recordings (though last night, a search for The Hi-Lo's resulted in only one single track.)

I've only been listening either thru my iPad or on earphones, so I  don't know the true quality of sound that's coming through.  I'll try to give it a listen on my hi-fi system this weekend.  I'm still in the initial trial period, so I still have time to make up my mind about it.  But so far, I'm lovin' it!

That is a good looking pizza.

It's drizzling but not really snowing in lower Manhattan. "They" say it won't start getting bad until around 7 pm. It's not quite sleet and not quite snow and not quite rain. And it's not even THAT cold, it's 33 (a degree above freezing) and when I came back from lunch it wasn't bad outside (except for the wet).

"They" (HR) said people who have travel issues may begin leaving at 3 pm or earlier if they need to do so. Since I'm a half-block from the office, I don't need to take advantage of the offer.

My new (actually used) computer with Windows 7 is quite nice. I spent part of the week tweaking it and I'm happy with the results now, including putting this picture on my desktop as my wallpaper (see the next post).

I am home. Around 11am I called my friend Bruce at Rodgers & Hammerstein about my stopping by and dropping off some music, and he suggested we meet for lunch at 1.  So, I met him at a restaurant on 7th and 28th Street and we spent a jolly 90 minutes over chicken pot pie and cheesecake, We then caught the No 1 subway to 42nd Street. There, he left the station and I crossed the platform and got onto an express train to 72nd Street. I came out of the station and got right onto a No 7 bus that dropped me off at my doorstep.

It's a mess outside so I've put the laundry on hold.

I'm in for the duration.

It's very easy to install ROKU.  You do need to go to use a computer with it to get it started so the Geek Squad would probably be a good idea.    I like it because I don't have to watch streaming movies on my computer screen.  I think you need a wireless network, but maybe not.

I think the Geek Squad (or some computer person besides me) would be the way to go just because we aren't out there often enough and even though it's easy it's well beyond Rose's abilities. They have a wireless network so the geek who comes should be done quickly. She loves Acorn TV and has asked repeatedly about being able to watch it on the TV.

I tire much quicker watching something on the laptop so when we get a new TV I'm thinking of a Roku (or some other streaming device) as well.

The Stephen Sondheim song "More"? At a funeral?

Haha!  No - from "Mondo Cane"

With the TV extension in the Cave, the Apple TV is in the living room.  I'm threatening moving it to the bedroom since that's the way I been streaming Netflix and Hulu and I'm able to play stuff purchased on iTunes or movies I've ripped to iTunes.  I'm still threatening.  Although, they aren't that expensive, maybe I'll get one for the bedroom.

DR George, I think, mentioned REMEMBER WENN.

I remember seeing just a couple of episodes, and I've been hoping to find it ever since!  I tell you, that show did a disappearing act to rival some of the most obscure 50's shows.

Only a couple, what a shame.  It was a great show!

Wow!  That was fast.

I used to do publicity for Junior's.

Lenny moved quickly to get the spot.  Apparently Lenny's was originally in Pacific Palisades.

Looks like I forgot to log out when I left for the hairdresser.  From there, I picked up my sister at their hotel and we went to the Vera Bradley enabler retailer, Michael's, Panera for lunch, Half Price Books, and Starbucks.  She's napping at the hotel and she and her husband are coming over later for a pizza dinner with Richard and me.

The storm was good to you keeping your sister around longer :)

And speaking of pictures, about a year and a half ago, for our library's 2011 All Staff Training Day, they wanted to have our own READ posters (http://www.alastore.ala.org/SearchResult.aspx?CategoryID=158) featuring Timberland Employees.  For whatever reason, mine was one of several that didn't get printed and posted at our ASTD.  They used some again for the 2012 ASTD and STILL mine wasn't put up.  However, just last week, the communications department FINALLY printed it out and I got my own copy of it.  I hope that they post them this year...it's also my 25th Timberland anniversary!!  Anyway, here's my poster!!

Greetings from Toyland!  No new scores for me, although I know some are about ready. This tardiness concerns me because, when the old job closed us down, I was barraged with questions about work: will we go back to it? can you tell someone I need it? Now that we're on a deadline, people certainly take their time.

I got a couple of new scores...  7 to 6.  67 to 58; and don't forget, 15 / Love!

For example just now an author I like posted a free short story prequel on her website. Instead of having to read it on the computer (don't like to do this). DR Jennifer that sounds very convenient.

It's amazing.  As long as the email address the content is sent from is on your amazon list (you have to approve of any email addresses). So for example for netgalley you add their address to your amazon account.  It is very convenient.

It sounds it.

SO  what was Duff's?  All I can think of is Duff's Beer, Homer Simpson's favorite drink

It was a wonderful bar and restaurant. DR Ginny's being rather coy about it. It was the community theatre hangout.

Many happy post-rehearsal and post-show gatherings were held there.  We had a wonderful waitress named Bev (RIP  :'(), who never wrote down an order and could correctly serve 20 people from memory.  I have tried unsuccessfully for 30 years to replicate Duff's fabulous vegetable soup.

George does that work for a word or pdf file?

It didn't work when I just tried...it could only allow picture files.

There was a family restaurant in Pennsylvania that made, by far, the best cornbread.  I used to order it half cooked when I entertained and then finished baking it before serving.  I never imagined they would close up the restaurant and regretted not asking for the recipe.

Sounds like maybe the proofers should take another look. And have a couple more people read it, too. The more proofers the better.
After reading today's notes I would agree with DR Laura. Read it out loud. Get a few more people to proof it. As someone who reads a lot I think it is important to try to get rid of as many mistakes/typos/errors as you can Good luck.

I am always amazed how many books (ebooks and hardbound) have problems keeping the names of the characters correct.  I saw one character who changed names three times in one paragraph.

I don't know how to watch programs on Netflix.

It's hard to estimate with the drifts and all.  I guess I could turn the tube back on and see what they're saying.

looks like about 8 - 10 inches on top of the picnic table in the back yard  here on the Island -
(Chas,  I am right about in the middle of the Island - not  on either shore, western Suffolk -)

but the wind is causing some serious drifts

OH MY GOSH, YOU CAN'T BE SERIOUS??

Me neither.  But that's on purpose- I've had no interest in getting into Netflix and all those other services.  I'll watch cable casually, but for the most part it's physical media all the way, for me.

I pay for the 2 at a time DVD with Netflix, but I always forget to return the movies.

I am on my free trial month - I was getting blockbuster but they closed all the stores near me so they are dead to me now
