I, too, love WILD RIVER.

Saw it when it was first released, and I watch it again every 2-3 years.

Had a surprise when I switched on the computer this morning and a notice came on screen saying the computer had a fault and couldn't start up but was trying to repair itself. That had never happened before. I had an image of a team of miniature robots running around inside my computer trying to find out what was wrong. Sure enough after about 15 minutes it started up again!

Yesterday DR Jane asked re: the netipot
Quote
For a cold?  I thought it was only for sinuses

Yes it is often used for sinuses and helps with the pain. But it is also used for colds. And when BK mentioned the mucus and how much he was blowing I thought it might clear things up.

Twelve degrees!  Yes, twelve degrees.

Tonight is the DOWNTON ABBEY finale AND the beginning of THE AMAZING RACE.  I am sure TAR will be late because CBS is showing a college basketball game followed by a golf tourney today.....and heaven forbid they pre-empt any of their precious 60 MINUTES even though that show is WAY PAST its expiration date.

Good morning, all!

I slept late, with a  long dream about working on a regional production of THE THREE SISTERS and something about a young lady I once knew on the production team. I have a memory now of being in a classroom, a chart, and a rehearsal of a dance on a porch during which I was always in the way.

Today I have no plans. I'll take a walk and wander about the Upper West Side, pull some books togive away, and maybe watch the John Ford HOW GREEN WAS MY VALLEY.

I wish I hadn't read an article from the UK about Downton at the beginning of season 3.  It was about the end of season 3 and had something in it I wish I didn't know.  I'm looking forward to the finale anyway and am glad that I know there will be a season 4

Well, tomorrow's Presidents Day means everythng I mailed this weekend will take one day more to reach its destination. At least all my bills are paid, I'm happy to report, although I'm not sure my Ohio  property taxes will reach my sister-iin-law as quickly as she'd like.

DRcillaliz, I knew the end of the season before I watched it, and I still enjoyed it. These British actors who complain about tv seasons of, what?, eight episodes make me laugh since American actors have to deal with around 22.

And now I'm taking my walk.

So, Friday night I saw a community theatre production of Promises Promises which was a treat in many ways.  The leads were really good and for the most part, the story was told very well.

However....

Why do people have this urge to stage/choreograph the Overture??  Evidently, that's what they did in the recent revival.  It was really dumb.  Made no sense whatsoever.  And the only other issue I had was that the "Vocal" part of the orchestration.... the called these 4 singers "The Greek Chorus" and they were staged every time they sang.  It was rather stupid and really detracted from the music.  To my knowledge, the purpose of the vocals in the orchestration is just that.  Part of the orchestration.  They should have been locked in a booth somewhere, not "part" of the staging.  Speaking of orchestration - the FULL orchestration (except harp) was used.  That in itself was pure joy.  All in all, it was nice to see the piece on stage, and it's still a fantastic piece of theatre.

I wish I'd known Toni went to Hamilton!

I remember well the person I would often talk with the played beautiful violin music.  She was thin with long dark hair and had a plain look about her that I really liked.  I can't remember her name.  I'm 99% this Toni is the same person.  Keith thinks she looks different.  I can't imagine there was more than one person at Hami who fit her description.  I really liked her and have thought of her over the years.  I doubt she remembers me, not by name anyway.

Have you communicated with her again?

The video of the 25th Anniversary concert at the Royal Albert Hall was much closer to the original staging than the movie was.  It's worth a look.  The projections and stuff really were much better than the movie... who knew - oh, and the singing is much better

well the Pastoral candidate was heard, questioned and asked to retire for discussion -  discussion was held, the question was called, adn voted upon and the congregation approved the motion to "call" the  candidate as Associate Pastor , 88 for and 6 against.

Were the six against the same six that vote against everything the church does?

It was a secret ballot vote  so we do not know who voted against

Oy!  How can they do PROMISES, get so much right, and so totally blow those other things?!

Somebody should hang from a rope for that Greek Chorus nomenclature alone, let alone the staging thing.  OMG.

But how fortunate they had the (almost) full orchestra.

DR Cilla I'm sure you are, as usual, going to put me to shame with your weekend of frantic cleaning. ;)

Not this weekend.  I just washed the car, vacuumed the interior, ran the dishwasher, did the kitchen and bathroom floors on the main floor and cleaned the bathroom.

I have to do frantic cleaning because I don't keep up.  When it gets bad I got "AHHHHH!!!"  and have a cleaning frenzy.

DRcillaliz, I knew the end of the season before I watched it, and I still enjoyed it. These British actors who complain about tv seasons of, what?, eight episodes make me laugh since American actors have to deal with around 22.

And now I'm taking my walk.

I knew the surprise ending, but still enjoyed all of it.  Now I'm ready for season 4
