Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of auditions, diet, and The Blob, and now it is time for you to post until the auditioning, dieting, and blobby cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: BEVEL!
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
Many many healthy thoughts and vibes to dear DR Matthew.
-
Good morning, all!
I slept well, but the most perculiar thng happened around 6am this morning: the apartment was permeated with the intense odor of percolating coffee. It woke me up with a real start and took me back to my childhood, when my brothers and I would wake between 5:30 and 6:00am to the smell of coffee coming from the kitchen as my mother prepard my dad's breakfast. I have no idea if this morning's event was a harbinger of a stroke, a ghostly visit, or total malarkey on my part, but it's something I've never experienced before.
So, today I will run down to Toyland and see if any work's come in. If so, I'll begin it. Otherwise, I'll spend a couple f hours digging through cartons looking for things and beginning to put materials away into files.
-
Good morning, all.
Slept a LOT better, and the dreams weren't even annoying.
-
Dentist today at noon, cleaning and checkup. Oy.
-
;D
-
Good morning everyone.
Good morning world.
;D
-
I want to see my life through rose colored glasses and acting like i'm 5.
:)
-
GOOD MORNING TO ALL!
HOPE ALL GOES WELL TODAY FOR EVERYONE
-
MEGA VIBES, to everyone who needs them.
;)
-
And the word of the day is: BEVEL!
The star of Episode i of Out of the Box when you combine her name together
-
Sorry to hear BK's report on THE BLOB Blu-ray. Ugh. Well, this just moves it down on my list of "upgrades". There are other recent and upcoming Criterions requiring more immediate attention.
-
Long day, by the time i get home, it will be 16 hours.
I'm glad i can still do it.
;D
-
BK
Any plans to put Writer's Block on audio?
-
Off to work.
Maybe i'll listen to the Blob on Jeepers Creepers tonight.
8)
-
It's Wednesday, and the blobby cows are home.
-
Wednesday morning greetings! We are, again, waiting for the plumber. Because I think I'm going to a noon program at my former workplace, I got up early to take a shower. So far, no word from the plumber and there are reports of icy roads in the Dayton area...
-
DR ELMORE you will probably have a message from a family member today.
-
Light snow here DR GINNY.
-
I was scary to see the home movies.....but interesting....anyway.
-
Yes DR MBARNUM - I enjoyed Mr Race Gentry and Ms Jackie Loughery on WEST POINT last night.....
But in the first episode there was too much Henry Silva and not enough Richard Harrison, although Richard finally got some lines. I don't think he got to go on location to West Point - when he got sent in to the soccer game, the man in with his number was a lot taller and stockier.....
-
Well....then I guess I've been asleep DR KEVIN H.
-
My question for ASK BK DAY - do YOU remember the television series WEST POINT? I think I usually turned it off when I saw it come on....it didn't look very interesting.
The box set is a lot fun!
-
Good morning, all.
Happy Hump Day Vibes
Meet the Blob (a Sondheim reference).

I have no idea how big or small these images will post, so here goes:
Ask BK:
First of all, do you have this book, THEN AND NOW, 1973-2004 by Ed Ruscha? I only learned of it when browsing Hollywood "then and now" titles after reading Adriana. Found a wonderful copy at a great price, and it's certainly worthy of an entire discussion.
Now, here's a memory question for BK or DR Jane or DR Druxy or anyone who can help: In the 1973 photograph there's a restaurant visible between the American Airlines building and Capitol Records (where the pagoda thing sits later) called Munch Box. Do you remember it? What was it? Any description would be of interest because I came across a couple of notes from 1972-73 indicating I'd eaten there a few times, and I had no memory of its name or anything about it.
I could probably get that sign clearer with a large hi-res scan, but I think if you squint you can get the idea.
This book, and Ed Ruscha's project, is a godsend - as one would expect - while exploring it can be a bit of a strange experience. But: wow.
-
We watched HITCHCOCK last night.
We thought it was okay; not great, but fun and entertaining.
-
Chester graduates from obedience class today.
-
Saw a new UPS Store ad on TV yesterday.
There's a dog in it named "Chester," and he is the exact image of my Chester.
Should I sue the imposter?
::)
-
DR ELMORE you will probably have a message from a family member today.
DR JRand62, thank you! Since that happened this morning, my mother - who would have been 90 years old this year - has been on my thoughts, and it's been a weepy morning.

I know that some people think it's screwy, but: I do believe in "visitations" from the other side.
I certainly believe that I have experienced 2-3 in my life.

I'd be much happier with 2-3 in my lifetime! The creepiest was in July 1968, but they seem to be happening far too often these days.
-
I think visitations are particularly useful to writers DR DRUXY....and of course other creative people DR ELMORE.
-
Planets and moons are crazy right now....and of course April 30 is coming up - which is the second day of the year when the veil between the spirit world and the earthly world is at its thinnest.
-
Good morning.
I have never been visited by the other side. But then, I'm so oblivious to such things that they'd probably have to drop an anvil on me to get my attention.
-
It is a beautiful spring day in Arizona.

I don't think that being a writer or otherwise creative has anything to do with it.

LOL.....some work is done quietly.
-
I find an Anvil is very useful for getting rid of a headache.
-
There are several Hollywood Then and Now books - not sure I have this one from 2004 - I'll have to check. But I never ate at The Munch Box, nor at the Howard Johnson's on the corner across the street (I don't think that was there all that long - formerly Hody's). There was an Ontra Cafeteria on the other side of the street just up from Vine - ate there a lot.
-
I'm up. One of the reasons I'm up was to put my car out on the street - filming today - and yet all the little cones with the signs about filming today are suddenly and magically gone. I may give the location manager a call.
-
I hope you let your builder know that when he starts his work, he is supposed to park down the street in front of Annette's Daughter's House.
-
Welcome One Guest.

I received my new license plate in the mail today. I have only gotten sticky tags for about 4 years, this year I got a NEW plate....even though my number is the same:

So, who's your BFF (Best Friend Forever)
I can't put a question mark at the end of the sentence because the parens and the ? seem to make it an emoticon, this one to be exact ???

Since were were discussing "visitations" and other strange stuff, I decided to pull this section out of my 2010 memoir for your perusal:
"I knew a fellow named Tim Hansel. We went all the way through
school together, from elementary through high school. He was a nice
guy, a good athlete, but we were never close buddies, just friendly
acquaintances. The last time I saw Tim was at our 35th high school
reunion.
"I hadn’t thought about Tim for years, then a few months ago, his
name just popped into my head and I suddenly had a strong urge to
call him and say, “Hello.” I searched the Internet, but could not
come up with a direct contact, so I sent a couple of e-mails to people
who, ostensibly, knew him, requesting that they ask Tim to contact
me. That’s it. I never heard anything back from anybody, so I went
on to other things.
"About a month later, I heard from a mutual acquaintance on
Facebook that Tim had died…on the very day that I had tried to contact
him.
"Go figure."
-
Those kinds of "coincidences" happen surprisingly often - though not necessarily to moi - and are always fascinating.
-
I don't specifically recall eating at that Howard Johnson's, but I might have, since it had still been a common thing for me to eat in them in Cleveland and other locations prior to moving to Hollywood.
That Ontra Cafeteria was a special discovery, and I always wished I'd gone in there more often than I did.
-
An interesting thing for me about the cafeteria building -- unless I've been remembering this totally wrong all these years -- is that the first dentist I ever went to in L.A. was in that building, right above Ontra. I have a photo somewhere that sort of bears that out, because there's a regular door on the front that would appear to be the entry for whatever offices were on the second (and third?) floor.

Larry, I'd read that you smell toast if you're going to have a stroke, so I think you're okay in that respect. ;)
-
I've been sorting out my DVD shelving. The DVDs just keep increasing along with Blu-rays (I don't buy as many CDs) and it's getting to be a real problem where to put them all. I think I need another major clear out to either sell some and/or pass them on to a charity shop.

Great, so I'd have the stroke because I would be wishing for a carb treat that was not on my diet. ;)

Thanks, DR George! It's nice to know that this may not be a harbinger of something bad for me.
I'm still waiting for whatever might be the fallout from this occurrence today.

Keep your eye out for Cindy Robbins and Yvonne Lime (both from I WAS A TEENAGE WEREWOLF) in upcoming episodes! Plus Peter Brown and cute little Mimi Gibson.
As much as I am really enjoying each episodes stories, I am also having so much fun seeing so many familiar faces....and falling in love with previously unknown (to me) actors who look so dang good in those West Point uniforms!

What a fascinating book, DR ChasSmith! I see that Amazon.com has several "then and now" books for various cities and I have just put one for Portland, Oregon in my wish list, along with several other books about "vintage" Portland that looked good.

Chester graduates from obedience class today.
You must be a very proud papa, DR Druxy!

I also added a Hollywood Then and Now and a Los Angeles Then and Now...but not the one that DR ChasSmith's picture is from, cause it cost over 100 dollars!!
-
DR JRand62, I am really glad you are enjoying WEST POINT.
I am trying to decide now if I want to spring for the TOMBSTONE TERRITORY sets. Lots of good guest stars in that show.

Very nice photo, Druxy!
-

It's apparently $175 new! I bought one of the $59 ones, and it's perfect, with but one tiny remainder mark on the bottom. The book comes in a very-thin-cardboard slipcover which I think is easily subject to damage, and mine had one corner a little bit disfigured. More than worth it to me. Worth its weight in gold, actually. A unique book.
-
I also just ordered two of the more typical Then and Nows for Hollywood, $20 total. Need to catch up with that 15-year-old.
-
Drove through some pretty heavy snow flurries, but the roads were fine. I got home just in time to see Pope Francis I make his appearance on the balcony.
-
Buzz around the Basilica -nice turn of phrase on CNN
-
Nice graduation photo DR DRUXY. Chester certainly looks as though he knows he accomplished something!
DR MBARNUM - I watched the episode last night that had all the gals in it..... I am thinking that ZIV got word from CBS that the show needed more GIRLS....because since the Gloria Talbott episode, most of the shows have revolved around drag problems....
Drag being the name the cadets gave to their gals!
-
I think you are correct, DR JRAnd. The show needed a romance angle for the housewives.

From DR Jennifer:
DR Jane is there anywhere on your library website that explains the new format. It seems odd that they would change things without expllaning it.
There seems to be but it looks like a book. I'll explore it when I know what I can't figure out on my own.
-
The new library site offers something I often wish the old one had, the ability to search for available books. I tested it last night and couldn't get the book to down load onto my Nook. I have it in an odd form. It is an old book so I'm not sure what is the cause.
I just browsed, using the computer which is easier, and couldn't find another book to test using my Nook. I did figure out the original reason I couldn't get the library app to work on my Nook, it was just too darn slow.
-
More later. I have to deal with XM radio which did not credit me the correct amount after spending 45 minutes on the phone with them yesterday.
Groan!!!
-
Had a very nice lunch at Stanley's - I was so tempted to have the pasta with salmon in a light tomato cream sauce, but light and cream is an oxymoron so I was a good boy and had the Chinese chicken salad and only one piece of their great bread. So, not bad, plus I get to deduct some calories from the three-mile jog.
-
Picked up one package and am now home and ready to relax.
-
DR Chas, Keith & I don't remember Munch Box, but then we never really spent a great amount of time in Hollywood.

Congrats to Chester on graduating!
-
I say, what's this? Half a dozen posts in the last four hours?
-
I've been trying to figure out who recently un-friended me on FB. I apparently didn't change my own records the last time I was un-friended.
It used to be easy to check when FB listed our friend's alphabetically by first names. Now the friend's list is scattered. I can do a letter search which then brings up almost everyone that includes one of their names beginning with that letter. The biggest problem with this is that is only brings up a certain number of those names and the rest are left off. :(
-
Did you follow that post ;)
-
Facebook is horrible and getting worse with each passing day.
-
Page four? Four pages? Really?
-
Watched JOUR DE FETE. I have now seen all of Jacques Tati except for PARADE which I suspect isn't as great as the actual films.
-
Funny, Keith's aunt is going to be 91 this month but her son said she was going to be 92. Keith has documentation that says otherwise so I had to question his cousin about it. Turns out the cousin was counting wrong-lol
-
She gets to set her clock back a YEAR? Jealous!
-
LOL, only her son does. I think she know how old she is.
-
Jane, don't try to figure it out. Just let it go.

I went for a nice long walk and then worked in the backyard. Things are starting to pick up:

If DR meant Keith's aunt, well the genealogist needs to make sure his records are correct.

Facebook. If you can't tell right away who deleted you, it was obviously someone you didn't interact with much, anyway.
-
As for FB I like to make sure I'm not missing any friends. Normally I know without counting as I noticed if someone isn't talking. If someone I only know through FB isn't communicating then I will eventually remove them though it takes me a long while to do so.
-
I've never removed a FB friend because I disagreed with their views & opinions.

-
I know, Jane. Someone unfriended me once that I know of. I figured it out. I had hurt feelings for a while. I guess I'd rather not know if someone unfriends me.
-
I've only unfriended a couple of people because I didn't really know them. They were friends of friends who, for whatever reason, wanted to be friends with me. Their updates didn't interest me, so I put an end to that. I have five friend requests that I haven't responded to. I don't know who they are at all, so why would they want to be Facebook friends??

I with you Laura - I am so unobservant I do not notice live human beings wandering around in the same room until they speak and I leap three feet in the air

So last night I suddenly lost my wifi and it was still out this morning and this evening - then Vixdad started typing onhis lap top no problem!!

Camera Location Vibes for John G

But in the first episode there was too much Henry Silva and not enough Richard Harrison, although Richard finally got some lines. I don't think he got to go on location to West Point - when he got sent in to the soccer game, the man in with his number was a lot taller and stockier.....
I noticed that he totally changed into another person in that scene!
You need more saltpeter in your diet.
Or perhaps, he just needs more...

Hi everyone. Thanks for the vibes. Got a half hour walk in today which was downhill and then uphill, which was great. Tomorrow, same trail, longer walk, looking forward to that. I took a picture on my walk today and I'll be darned if I know how to post it here, but I thought about DR Laura when I took it.
High School production of "The Drowsy Chaperone" is going well. The "Man in Chair" is really good, I think he's a Freshman. The production is too big, but what can you do. They seem to "get" all the jokes and stuff. It's one of my top 5 favorite musicals, as I think it's very well written. The score is just ok, but it compliments the book which I think is tops.
