Title: EASTER PARADE
Post by: bk on March 31, 2013, 12:44:13 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of Easter and bunnies, and now it is time for you to post until the Easter cows come home.

I'm up early.  Must hide the eggs for Toby and Dylan to find them when they wake up.

They always find them.  they have very good senses of smell.

Actually, i just must have fallen asleep early,  Dylan actually woke me up.  I think he always knows when it's a holiday somehow, i don;t know how he figures it out - probably because of the relatives who were here last night.

I think I was reading the notes too fast the first time.  i thought it had said the carrot salad was the most fattening thing at the dinner last night, and I knew that couldn't be right.

So my cousin reminded me that I was actually a little bid of a brat to my grandma when i was five years old even though I became much nice by the time I was six.

We decided that this whole horrible mess of the past two years is punishment for my having been mean, talking back to Grandma when I was five, so it does all make sense after all.

Cue "Be Nice to Your Grandmother."

From some of the stories:  Cousin Randi mentioned that at one point  (I swear I do not recall any such thing) at either four or five) at their apartment in Miami Beach, I shouted to Grandma "We're all what we are,a nd there's no way of changing it."

I wonder, was I wearing drag with a matching boa at the time?   And this was still seven years before my groundbreaking Lucy in You're a Goodman, Charlie Brown at Camp

I slept rather well, and I am deciding what is on today's calendar. Right now Bach's Easter Oratorio is playing, and it will keep me company for the next 45 minutes or so.

I need some eggs. And English muffin.

I think I got barely five hours sleep, and waking up early felt just awful.  But as I gained consciousness and was figuring out who I am, what day it is, etc., I remembered that tomorrow I have to be up even earlier for another day of rehearsals and a spring concert at the high school, and I simply won't make it through that if I don't get up immediately and stay awake all day and get plenty tired so's I can get to sleep at a very decent hour tonight.  So here I am -- on the job, so to speak, but not too alert.

More coffee!

I believe Roberta did my outfit for "Book report on Peter rabbit" in YOU'RE A GOODMAN, CHARLIE BROWN.

IIRC, the last name of the fellow playing Schroeder actually was Plastick, but a really really good actor despite the name.  That was an intersting irony, a really excellent great actor playing Schroeder, a small-ish part - but I think he couldn't really sing that well at that point, or his voice was changing at the time.
Title: Re: EASTER PARADE
Post by: FJL on March 31, 2013, 06:45:45 AM
I tried to have a different outfit for every number n my contract.  they said if i supplied the clothes, they would give me time to change during book scenes (which frankly nobody would miss Lucy during if she weren;t there), but otherwise no dice.

That's a joke.  I didn;t really have a contract.  And the guy playing Linus was always waiitng to take my part.

:)

Well DR FJL - that's show business.

Truly a microcosm.

It was as i recall at the very beginning of the streaking craze.  And the guy playing Linus seemed to find the concept hilarious, and liked airing himself during rehearsals as i recall to make us laugh, and this was in a day when going commando was not normal.   It was an all-boys camp.  Happily, he did not do this during production but some of us were worried.

We like to think the Oscars streaker emulated our camp.  :)

Fascinating that City Center marketing people are back this morning financially supporting the Talkin Broadway site, and ironic it's just at a time when the talkin Broadway site is really  raking Encores people over the coals.

I'd spent the last fifteen years doing my little part supporting Encores and City center , when we could could with donations and support of all kinds, when we couldn't financially by saying all the good things I could everywhere when I had something supportive to say and get friendly discussion going.

Karma, City Center marketing, Karma.

I hope Jack has nothing but happiness, likewise you Larry - and they've been very firm within Jack that he and the arts side must stay out of these marketing decisions

Re Donald post about the Oliviers - Did I ever post this tribute to THE BODYGUARD that I'd put in the comments to the Times review, about Ben Brantley's observation that if Heather Headley's bodyguard had been a better cop and less "studly" the plot of THE BODYGUARD might have been over in about 25 minutes:

Tune of I WANNA DANCE WITH SOMEBODY WHO LOVES ME (from The Bodyguard musical)

Crook strikes, he starts to stalk
And the cop is not too bright
Stop the plot with some songs to hawk
And those hits help pad the night

We’ve done all right up ‘til now
But New York is tougher, holy cow
Got Heather all signed
What guy can we find?

(chorus – 2x)
Oh, we’ve got a chance for some hottie
She needs to have some heat with some hottie
Yeah, need some advance with some hottie
With some hottie who’s studly

Some hottie who (2x),
Some hottie who’s studly
Some hottie who (2x)
Won’t blur out Heather’s charms

We need a cop who’s a hot buffoon
‘Cause if he seems too smart the plot ends too soon
But when New York calls
The casting search stalls

(repeat chorus over and over)

This morning, I woke up at 5:45 to find that the hot water heater was out.  So, I went to check it out, and found that pilot light was out.  I followed the instructions on how to light it, but I get nervous about putting a match to places where there is gas, so I left a message for the roommate to look at it.  He took care of it.  But i didn't get a shower, and even though I cleaned up ok before I left, I felt kinda gross all morning.  Got through 4 - count them - 4 masses this morning.  I was glad to cover the piano, and put the sound system away for the last time this week.

I'm off to my moms for dinner then to a friends house for a drink later this evening.

I had an interesting and very low-calorie lunch.  I had two cheeseburgers of my own making.  I got the leanest meat with only 9% fat, each patty is 4oz. and 190 calories, and I got hamburger buns that are 120 calories each.  Normally when I have a cheeseburger at Jerry's for example, I slather it to death with 1000-island, therefore upping the calorie count by perhaps six or seven hundred calories.  Today, I made the two patties, put the two slices of low-fat 45-calorie a slice cheese on them and put them on a bun with lettuce, onions, ketchup and mustard.  Total calories for two satisfying and tasty homemade cheeseburgers?  710.  I did a three-mile jog, so my intake is even less.  I had some melon balls and later I might have some low-fat cottage cheese.  So, so far WELL under 1200 calories.

I am sure that the spam registrations must be beyond frustrating. But I agree with DR Jane there should be something that tells people to email you. If it is easy to spot the spam why did DR ChasSmith say he tried to register 3 times. And new DR Kate tried as well. This would seem to deter any new people from registering unless they know you or someone else.

Yes, we have an adorable , sweet-natured beagle-terrier mix named Sadie.  We adopted her from a rescue center.

Favorite cookie:  Peanut butter cookies made with Bisquick.

Re Barbra:  I've grown to really appreciate her talent.

And yes, I became familiar with Brent through my brother. I have his three CD's, all personally autographed!  I think he's very talented.

And Hello, Dolly! the wretched and misbegotten production I saw last week gets not a rave but certainly a pass from the Washington Post - are these people just afraid to take on this director and his productions?  Because I've just lost what sliver of respect I had for Peter Marks.  You can read through this and see just how misbegotten it is.

I used a Jello mix - and instead of making one pie  I made 36 mini cupcake  size cheesecakes - for one dozen of them I put a layer of carmel on the crust before  adding the cheese cake filling  then  drizzled a little carmel on top and a few slivered almonds

for the 2nd dozen a put a layer of strawberry jam on the crust before adding the filling and then topped them with half a strawberry

the last dozen I left plain but topped with a fresh blackberry

they came out well and looked pretty -

the trifle I made with Birds custard -  i should have made it yesterday and let it set overnight as the custard was too thin and never set really properly

I  put half an angel food cake on the bottom of the trifle dish and cut some angel food to fill in the hole in the middle

I took some strawberry  preserves and thinned it with some sherry and spread that angel food  layer then  a layer of halved fresh strawberries,  blackberries and blueberries - then I poured on the custard - another layer of cake and fruit -  it looked beautiful  ( I should have photographed it!)  but the custard never set properly and  when I served it the custard was too soupy - it tasted Ok though

I have half left  - I stuck it in the fridge when we got home maybe it'll set overnight

Hi Everyone:

I'm excited to be a new member.  As you know my brother Kevin introduced me to this forum.
I'm interested in old movies, classic books and most music.

Happy Easter to everyone.  Soon I'll be heading out for an Easter Brunch with Kevin and family.

Kate.
Welcome, Kate. Look forward to getting to know you.

The track pad has spazzed out twice today.  I checked preferences and it's correct - if it happens again, I'll call Apple Care tomorrow.

Earlier today I purchased Better Nate Than Ever for my reader. I'm now charging the reader. Wi-Fi eats up the power.
I enjoyed that a lot. It'll be interesting to read what you think of it.

I have the book here, although I don't know why - I don't read fiction anymore, much as I'm tempted to occasionally.  But I glanced at the first line of the book (first lines are a passion of mine) and I thought it would not have come out of a twelve-year-old boy's mouth.  But I hear it's very good.  I will get my once removed cousin's two books - I think they're both non-fiction.

No the church is pretty much wheelchair accessible, but the problem is the parking.  There are only a couple of handicap spots and a heck of a lot of old people.

Do the correct people at the church know why you can't attend?
Do they do live streaming of the services online. It's not the same, but I have used ours on Sundays when I have been under the weather.

Welcome, Kate!     We are very happy to have you join our group.  Do you have any pets?  What is your favorite kind of cookie?  Do you like Streisand?  Do you like Brent Barrett?
Yes, we have an adorable , sweet-natured beagle-terrier mix named Sadie.  We adopted her from a rescue center.

Favorite cookie:  Peanut butter cookies made with Bisquick.

I hope you will share photos of Sadie with us.

I've never heard of peanut butter cookies made with Bisquick.  It sounds interesting.  For years I avoided Bisquick because it contained animal fat but they have removed that along with palm oil. :)

Is that oil made out of people's palms?

And Hello, Dolly! the wretched and misbegotten production I saw last week gets not a rave but certainly a pass from the Washington Post - are these people just afraid to take on this director and his productions?  Because I've just lost what sliver of respect I had for Peter Marks.  You can read through this and see just how misbegotten it is.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/entertainment/theater_dance/a-new-dolly-in-dancing-trim/2013/03/31/1b7899a8-9a2e-11e2-9219-51eb8387e8f1_story.html
Sounds like he's trying to be kind to a high school production. And no matter what he says, the production still sounds terrible. But where, other than the tradition of casting, is Dolly referred to as a yenta? Her name is Gallagher Levi, and the Gallagher sounds more Irish.

Very long day. Sunrise service, then the rest of the day was getting ready for dinner.

I managed to get the house in some sense of order, though the vacuum stopped working in the middle of cleaning. The filter needed to be rinsed and dried and that put off the floors for a few hours.

In the meantime, I got all of the food together for the appetizers that I was doing: cheeses, plenty of relishes, veggies, sardines, etc. Surprisingly, the big hit was the plate of raw radish ravioli stuffed with goat cheese and toasted pine nuts.

People also enjoyed the loquat pie and the the baked egg dishes I made with serrano ham, goat cheese, artichoke hearts and spinach.

I have no idea what I was going to say!

Actually, I don't even know the new minister.  Our former minister "retired" quite suddenly.

I suspect the new minister may not know of you then -  I would suggest you call the church office and explain you r situation -  if he is worth his cloth he will find a way of helping you

Actually, it would be her cloth.

We (ELCA)  are in full communion with the UMC
"Full communion is not a merger. But it means that the two churches express a common confession of Christian faith; mutual recognition of Baptism and sharing Holy Communion; join worship and freedom to exchange members; agree to mutual recognition of ordained ministers for service in either church; express a common commitment to evangelism, witness and service; engage in common decision-making on critical matters; and a mutual lifting of criticisms that may exist between the churches"

I hope you give your minister a call (although I would give her e few days to recover from Lent and Holy Week!)  I hope she can come up with a solution

And on that note.  It's time for bed.  We are replacing said water heater this week.  Of course, since I have the week off, I'll have to stay home and wait for it.  The roommate is taking care of getting it replaced, but I have to be here cuz I'm home.
