Yesterday, I went to see a local production of a show called "The Somewhat True Tales of Robin Hood" by Mary Lynn Dobson, put on by Olympia Family Theater (http://olyft.org/the-somewhat-true-tale-of-robin-hood/). They produced the original musical version of "The Wind in the Willows," that I was involved in last year. This was a delightfully silly and funny show. It was a small audience, but they loved it. Here's the synopsis from OFT's website:
It sure is hard to be humble when you’re a swashbuckling, egocentric super-hero. But our gallant guy-in-green tries his best as he swaggers through The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood, a frantically funny, Monty Pythonesque retelling of the classic. This time around, the legendary legend, in his never-ending quest to aid the needy, encounters a lovely damsel-in-distress (oddly obsessed with skin conditions); an ever-scheming sheriff who would rather bowl a strike than hit a bull’s-eye; a gold-hoarding, bad-guy monarch wannabe; and a good-natured “Town’s Guy” who manages to make his way into every scene, whether he belongs there or not. Combine them with an expandable band of spoon-wielding Merry Men whose collective IQs equal six, and you’ve got an irreverent jaunt through Sherwood Forest you won’t soon forget!
-
After the show, I went to my parent's house for Easter dining (it' wasn't early enough for "dinner" and it was too late for lunch), and we also played Phase 10. I won!! It was the first time in quite a while that I did.
I eventually came home, watched some Doctor Who specials and am now going to bed. 8)

Morning all.
That is all.

It's a public holiday today but I'm off to do some work at the archive.

Good morning, all! I had a terrible night of sleep. I turned off the lights at 10pm, slept well until around 1:30am when I had a huge ROBERTA anxiety attack. I got up around 2 and caught up on HHW posts before I sent back to bed around 2:30. I slept poorly the rest of the night.
So, I am ready to head to Toyland. I'll continue to proof the first edit and I'm meeting one of the singers I approached last week about the leading role for coffee at 2:30. I am hoping, too, that today we get a final answer from the producer's choice for the role.

Good morning.

open question
What was the greatest April Fool's Day joke you ever played on someone or had played on you?
-
Thank you to all here at HHW for the thoughts that were sent yesterday. I appreciate it them very much, and I will pass them on to my sister & family.
Since I also have a brother named Mike, I have to be very certain when talking to people that I am speaking of my brother-in-law.
-
Monday morning greetings! The snow that's falling must be an April Fool's joke.
-
DR JRand, your family remains in my thoughts and prayers.
-
Sending April vibes to all of us.
-
Good morning, all.
Here's hoping April isn't the cruelest month.
DR Mike, I don't remember a anything elaborate ever on April's Fools Day, just a few corny jokes.
-
Working from home today. And I have to run out and get a blood test done before seeing the doctor next week. And tomorrow it's another doctor. And I need to get to the eye doctor. Lots o' docs.
-
Got the second load of dishes going this morning, and was surprised to get both sides of the sink cleared, so that I can start washing the glasses when I get a free hour or two.
Time to get back to normal. And let the house get dirty again.

I can't remember if i wished DR Ann a happy birthday yesterday. So hope you had a great day!

TOD: Favorite Thai food was a place in Florida where I used to live. It was called Thai Cafe and I was taken with the food that I ate there five times one week. I became friends with the owners, Sam and Nancy, and both were exceptional cooks, but both had different styles. So, I learned a lot about Thai cooking from eating their food.
Favorites included meats cooked with basil leaves, Masaman (spellings vary, cold also be musaman) with carrots and potatoes plus meat in a coconut curry, a series of volcano dishes that were as hot as the name implies, and anything with plenty of vegetables.
Nancy's trademark dessert was what she called Thai donuts, pillows of rice flour dough fried to a sizzling hot. When served, they might still be too hot to touch. But never greasy. They came with a vanilla-lemon glaze with peanuts that you dipped them in. Sheer perfection.

I agree. It's always good for family members to have keys. Either for medical reasons. Or in case someone locks themselves out. Or in this case if you need to get in instead of waiting.

It sounds more appealing than "The Heart of Robin Hood" which will play at our Shakespeare Festival. The blurb says it is funny.

That made me chuckle.
I had keys to my father's place & Keith's mother's and we lived much farther away. In reality I only had the key to my father's place until my sister changed the lock & wouldn't give me a new key. :(

Just had a hilarious rehearsal with Mr. Jason Graae. Waiting for someone to come by at two to pick up some stuff, then I'll rustle up some grub.

I am home from a wonderful coffee date with actor John Riddle. He would like to be considered for the August recording date but he will be out on tour with EVITA.
The search continues!

Okay, enough FOOLishness - let's get off this damn page. For example, maybe Shayne might care to show up HERE instead of Facebook where he is right this very minute. Wouldn't that be loverly?

Yes it was, and with a lovely song to listen to on this first day of April. Thank you Mike.

Topic of the Day #1 (favorite Thai food):
I don't know if I've ever had actual Thai food...or even a reasonable facsimile. But Mike, that picture looks very good!

Topic of the Day #2 (favorite animated films):
The first one that I can think of is "The Triplets of Belleville." I'm sure that I'll think of more throughout the day.

I've had a deelish dinner: tuna, hardboiled egg, fresh tomato slices, and cauliflower with a dab of butter. I'll have some peach slices and cottage cheese later..

Oh, brother, the trackpad is spazzing out again. Definitely a call to Apple Care first thing in the morning. When it does this it just starts hiccuping and the cursor moves of its own accord and things open and close for no reason - it's awful.

open question
What was the greatest April Fool's Day joke you ever played on someone or had played on you?
Years ago, I used to have a radio show on the community radio station at The Evergreen State College (the station was not limited to students' use). I used to play musical cast recordings and theater-related recordings (pretty much anything that BK produced :D) and one year, April Fool's day fell on a Saturday, the day of my show. For the joke that day, I played nothing but songs by The Manhattan Transfer! Since my show was at 7:00 in the morning, I don't know if anyone was even listening, ::) but it certainly was fun for me.
-
Well, I must be off. I have to be at the theater at 6:00 for a paper-tech and then we'll run both the men's and women's versions of "Reservoir Dogs." And tonight, the board is providing food for the casts. I'm bringing a casserole that my mom made (she gave me permission to bring it) and some cookies from my sister.
Until later!
-
I picked up one package from dear readers KevinH - two packages of yummilcious chocolate licorice - no fat grams and only 160 calories for four pieces.
I'm glad the package arrived today, BK! As I mentioned, I meant to give it to you after Sandy's show and left it in the car!
-
Because we've had this problem before, Apple is sending me a new trackpad.
-
Post deleted.
-
Actually, they just told me to go on in to the Apple Store and replace it tomorrow - they gave me a case number, so that should be easy.
-
Congrats on the sellout of Comden and Green, BK!
-

-
Speaking of the Apple Store, I went to the one in Buffalo Saturday and looked at I-phones and I-pads. Still deciding on both. A friend told me he really likes his kindle fire HD and it's a lot cheaper than the I-pad.
-
I just sent the helper to the Apple Store because the thing was out of control and opening and closing and moving things around and that's a little too scary for me. She'll bring back the new trackpad and we'll get it set up and hopefully that will take care of the problem. I'm sure that something inside the trackpad was shorting out or something. Thankfully I had my old mouse here so I an at least use that until she brings back the trackpad.

So, the question has finally been addressed, what to do with the house the roommate and I own together. We both seem to want to keep it. So, according to his brilliant logic <sarcastic> - if we both want to keep it, we should just sell. I'm on the fence about letting him re-fi in his own name, take whatever cash he can give me at this point, and run across the bay and get an apartment and start all over with the DD. I'm in a quandary and I'm not quite jiggy with that. Even if I could re-fi into my name only and afford to pay the mortgage/expenses and still have a life, the roommate's logic tells me that I can't.
And these are the days of our lives
-
bk, I love my track pad, I hope you get it resolved quickly!!!

That is a difficult decision. I wish you the best. Can you even sell if for a reasonable price these days? If he buys you out it seems it should be for the entire amount he owes you. I'm sorry you can't buy him out.

Well, "Sugar Man" is over and it is a movie of great surprises, one of which is how much heart it has. There are some real tear-jerker moments when you listen to people describe how some farfetched dream has come true for them.

Is that a documentary?

I guess he last posted on March 26, so I guess that isn't too long ago.

Is that a documentary?
Yes. A weird story of a Bob Dylan-type songwriter who did a couple of albums and disappeared. Meanwhile, in South Africa, he became bigger than Elvis. And he never knew he was popular there, never got any royalties from his music, never made it big. In fact, the legend had it that he was dead. But someone tracked him down and got him to South Africa where he was rather dumbfounded by his huge success.

don't have a favorite Thai restaurant, but I think Pad Thai may one of my favorite dishes if it is the one with the wide noodles. I also like the lemon chicken. I have pretty much enjoyed all of the thai food that I have tried so far. Oh, there was one with octopus that was quite good.
Favorite animated movie would be a toss up between BAMBI and FINDING NEMO.

I had to delete a dear friend on Facebook this weekend. She was someone I worked with for 10 years at my job and she recently took a payroll position for a school district in another town.
She and I were partners in crime for those 10 years and had a lot of fun together, even though she is many years younger than I.
Now that she moved to this other town she and her husband started at a new church. She was already very religious, but with a liberal outlook. Her best buddy in high school was gay and of course she and I were very close...but since she started at this new church she has become extreme in posting religious stuff like wanting the bible to be taught in public schools, etc, and over the last couple of weeks has been posting anti-gay rights things on her Facebook page. It hurt too much to see these posts from someone I cared for and so I took the decision to delete her. I see enough of this crap on the news, I just don't need to see it on my Facebook news feeds.

And now that my sleeping pill is kicking in, I must be off to bed before I start posting jibberish.
