Well, you've read the notes, the notes said hello and talked about Dolly, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently singing It Only Takes a MOOment.
-
And the word of the day is: SPLENETIC!
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
Good morning, all! I was asleep by 9:00pm, and I slept until the neighbor noisily arrived home with girlfriend around 11, at which point I gave up on sleep for a couple of hours.
I will shortly head down to Toyland to being proofing the Act Two scores. I should be able to get through a large number of them this morning. My singer who was coming in this morning called ad postponed until tomorrow, and I've got one oter singer I'd like to hear. At this point, it's going to be less about how well either sings, since both sing quite well, and more about how well they handle the spoken dialogue.
-
Good morning, all.
Had to get up a bit early this morning to be ready for the furnace people who are to arrive between 7:30 and noon.
Got a bit of a second wind last night and stayed up way too late, but slept decently enough and feel pretty good.
-
And they're here!
-
Good morning.
;D ;D

Time is not on my side these days.

Mega vibes everyone.

That's OK, we'll always be on your side, Sam!

Greetings from Toyland!

This afternoon I'm joining a couple of members of Home Theater Forum at the house of one where we've enjoyed a few very satisfying movie nights over the past several months.
BK: He has the Panasonic projector they were using at the Marriott last fall.
His screen is a 12-foot home-built job that, to my eyes, provides a spectacular picture. Speakers and surround system are excellent, and the seating (comfortable recliners on home-built risers) is wonderful. Best of all (to my taste), it's not something Architectural Digest will be out to do a spread on any time soon. Actually, not ever. Nothing fancy, just the family room of his raised ranch completely blacked out and completely dedicated to film, with shelving for his BLU/DVD/LD collection, and posters, on every available inch of three walls. Just great equipment, a great collection, and total comfort. On my first visit, I was committed to someday having my own projection setup -- something I hadn't been very interested or curious about before. You gotta see it to believe how incredible it can be.
So, today's double feature: the new UK Blu-ray of (HORROR OF) DRACULA, and what is apparently a 3D spectacular, A TURTLE TALE: SAMMY'S ADVENTURES.

It appears to be a beautiful morning. I should go enjoy it a bit.

That sounds like a great afternooon DR ChasSmith! And what a fantastic double-bill. You can't have a greater contrast than DRACULA (which I intend to get) and A TURTLE'S TALE (the 3D in that is certainly spectacular) ;D

It's still bitterly cold with possible snow showers later. Is this January or April?
-
And they're outta here. Ignition transformer and nozzle replaced, parts and labor covered under maintenance agreement. They can't be positive it won't still happen again, since the problem was intermittent, but these are always the likely culprits and it probably won't. I can now move on with my day. Which initially means sitting here a while longer and drinking more coffee.

Good morning, all.
Happy Hump Day.

Is there a theme to this year's STAGE show? And will it be recorded?

Wednesday morning greetings! I'm home all day to putter and get ready to meet my friend Suellyn at Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park to see The Book Club Play (http://www.cincyplay.com/index.php?option=com_production&view=production&id=21&Itemid=490). Should be a lot of fun, because Suellyn was one of the original members of my book group. She still reads along with us, but doesn't attend regularly because she lives in Cincinnati now.

Fed Ex has been here, I'm up to No. 22 in the scores, and I will head home.

BARGAIN DAY!
I don't know why they are doing this, since the book is less than a week old, but Amazon has discounted my THE HOLLYWOOD LEGENDS anthology from $24.95 to $19.11.
I have no idea how long this discount will last, so if you were thinking of ordering the book (with its 10 plays about 11 fabulous people), this might be the time.

Thirty-nine years ago today, a series of seven or so tornadoes swept through Louisville, ripping trees up from the ground and tearing houses apart. We spent the day in the basement, riding out the storm.

Right now, the sky is black as night overhead with a glimmer of light on the horizon to the southwest. A storm is sitting on top of us, but yet everything is oddly quiet. Lightning is flashing occasionally. And there's a greenish tinge to the light, which is said to be associated with tornadoes. Hope this isn't a repeat of 40 years ago.

And I am home and ready for a nap.

I hear that Milo O'Shea has died. I worked with him around 1982. He was a very lovely man.
-
I'm at work and I'M ready for a nap too. I have to go to the grocery store after work and when I return I may take a nap and then we will watch another 2 episodes of the recent HBO Mildred Pierce. We watched Episode 1 on Monday.

Hi Everyone,
I am new at this and had to call my brother Kevin to walk me thru this.

We have patience in abundance.

Hi DRBen
Thanks Ben.
I love the movie Mildred Pierce. I love most old black and white movies. I never saw the HBO version. I will have to one of these days.
Kate
-
I very much liked the HBO adaptation: good cast, no murder. I do find Veda's rise to vocal stardom hard to buy, though, but that's Cain's problem.
-
One of my favorite movies of all time is The Enchanted Cottage with Robert Young.
-
Hi everyone:
I will tell you a little about myself. I love to sing and play guitar, enjoy old movies especially with Betty Davis, Joan Crawford and Greer Garson. My favorite male actor is Jimmy Stewart. Favorite Musical is Les Mis. My favorite tv show is Scandal.
I love to write religious songs. Would love to visit Italy and Paris.
Take care,
Kate

Better now that you've joined us. Welcome, Kate.

Loved Milo O'Shea in most anything, but especially in James Joyce's Ulysses. Not a perfect film of the novel, but as good as we're ever likely to get and he was all sorts of wonderful in it.
-
Sorry to hear about Milo O'Shea.
-
Time to be getting outta here for the afternoon. Back tonight.

MAJOR MEGA VIBES ON THE RESULTS OF YOUR BLOOD WORK!!!

From DR Vixmom:
I was really worked up about this standing up and yelling - then I woke up and realized I was actually standing up and actually yelling
Oh my, to actually be standing up and yelling. I expect you weren't as loud as it felt since you didn't wake anyone.
After what you went through I can understand your having the dream.

I was hoping for a weather update from DR John G.
VIBES ALL IS WELL!!!

Bike ride finished - the day can commence
I read that too quickly as "the day can romance." My thought was, great, if it wants to.
-
"Hello, Dolly!"
Watched this one night before last and was enthralled with how beautiful the Blu ray transfer is.
This film has grown on me through the years. As Gene Kelly's widow said in the "Remembering Gene Kelly" extra, "Dolly" has proven to have legs.
-
I do not enjoy reading two books at once. I was going to finish my library book before reading the draft of our friend's novel. I'm only on page 60 while Keith is on page 100. I must catch up to Keith because he keeps telling me what is happening and I want to experience it all fresh.
-
Hi DR Ron.
-
I was hoping for a weather update from DR John G.
VIBES ALL IS WELL!!!
Huge downpour with plenty of fireworks and cymbals crashing in the sky. And blustery winds that were really strong. But it's backed off a bit now. It's a little lighter, though it still looks like it's just before sundown (four hours before that is to happen).
And we'll take the rain.
-
Good to see you, Mr. Pulliam.
I agree with you. I enjoy moments in the movie more than I ever have, and I think that, by and large, it is the best sung "Dolly" there is, thanks to Streisand.
-
Favorite Musical is Les Mis.
Not sure if you will see this post but did you see the new movie? I just watched the dvd a few days ago and really liked it. It is amazing that they could find some big named stars that could sing so well. I really enjoyed Hugh Jackman. The only star whose voice was not right for his role was russell Crowe. He actually acted well and is not a bad singer. His voice just did not sound at all like how I want Javert to sound. One person I did enjoy a lot in the movie was the guy who played Marius. He was exactly how I picture Marius looking and sounding.
-
I have Life of Pi from the library. The movie.
-
It has been super windy here the past few days including today.
-
DR Jane I know a bunch of people who love to read multiple books at once. I have always only read one at a time.
-
I thought I'd posted, but the morning has been wacky, to say the least. A Time for Singing did arrive today but the helper, after waiting for two and a half hours near the mail place, left - it got there ten minutes later, so she won't get to shipping that until the morning - irritating. I did a three-mile jog, and then had to make arrangements to get a tape transferred that will give us another track for our next release - the cue was missing from the previous release and wasn't on the tapes, but they had a D/M/E on the title (separate dialogue, music, and effects) so we can pull it from there and we'll have the complete score for the first time.
-
Glad to see Ron Pulliam back - over at the Home Theater Forum there are three people nitpicking and knocking the Dolly transfer, which is just shocking. Heaven knows how they are viewing, but the stuff they're talking about is so ridiculous and simply is either a product of the production itself, opticals, but nothing to do with the transfer, which is exemplary. It's just amazing to me, but I'm setting the record straight repeatedly, and Matt H loved it as did a 70mm expert. Then they say they prefer Chitty, Chitty, Bang, Bang as a transfer - that transfer is excellent save for it's way too brown color. This one has perfect color.
-
Very happy Kate has figured it all out.

DR Jane I know a bunch of people who love to read multiple books at once. I have always only read one at a time.
I also only read one book at a time. I don't want to have to think that much to keep track of everything.
;)
-
I haven't begun reading yet. I'm really at the point in the first book where I want to know how it ends.
Now I'm really off to read.
-
I generally have four or five books going at once, not to mention one in the car. It's gotten worse since starting school, because reading has become something I do for research, not enjoyment.
That said, I've been reading "The Book of Gin" for two months now. And I haven't gotten to the first recipe yet.

With all of the other celebrity deaths listed lately on HHW, I should add that Bob Hover aka Linc Foster, passed away.
He did a few small roles in films and some better roles in television (did a really good one on CHEYENNE and was on a couple of soaps right up until the 1980s).
He was a Marine turned model turned actor and was most recently living in Sarasota, Florida. I had planned on interviewing him one of these days, but never got around to contacting him :(

GRATUITOUS POST #100!

Hello! Looking forward to seeing the bluray of Hello, Dolly! UPS attempted to deliver it yesterday, but, of course, I was at work. I can pick it up in the evening, but I think I'll wait till Saturday.
-
Glad you figured it out too, Kate!

Hi DR Ron.
Hi! Strict new computer use policies at work. I'll be scarcer than a hen with teeth.
-
Sorry about that DR Ron. I can understand the policy. Do you have a laptop you can take to work ;)
-
We don't cut flowers from our garden. To us the garden is where they belong. While I was napping, instead of reading, Keith woke me up when he placed a vase of white daffodils with yellow centers next to me. They were in an ares where we don't really notice them. This is a real treat for me. :)

What a fascinating day this has been. In addition to all the stuff this morning, we've been told that five more reels have been found for our next release. It was ready to go to the pressing plant this morning, but I stopped it when I found we'd be able to include a minute-and-a-half cue that was missing from the previous release. I'm keeping fingers crossed that these other reels might improve the sound (it's mono and fine as it is, but if we were to have a closer generation tape amongst these, then that would be fantastic). I've been dealing with that for most of the afternoon, as well as having a turkey sandwich with no fries or onion rings and picking up a bunch of fun packages, including a VERY rare original script from Sam Peckinpah's The Wild Bunch - kind of a Peckinpah Holy Grail that has a direct connection to the film, since the person whose script this was was an uncredited assistant to Peckinpah. I made a very could trade deal and came out way, WAY ahead in terms of value.
-
I like those dog houses DR JANE.
Good news MR BK!
I ordered THE CARPETBAGGERS cd this afternoon.....always been a favorite score of mine....

MR BK is very close to a BIG millstone.....

Re: HELLO, DOLLY!
I have always maintained that had Ms. Streisand allowed them to put her in a fat suit, and allowed them to age her up 15 to 20 years with her make-up; she could have easily scored a second Oscar nomination. And she could have shown herself to be an actress.
Still, is Gallagher really a Irish-Jewish name?

So, today's double feature: the new UK Blu-ray of (HORROR OF) DRACULA, and what is apparently a 3D spectacular, A TURTLE TALE: SAMMY'S ADVENTURES.
dang - if you ever need to bring along a date.... :)

That's the funny thing - I haven;t been top the Dr or had any insurance issues recently - since my last PET Scan came back "All Clear" in January I have been one happy camper and I am jiggy with that -
I was so fully dedicated to telling this woman off in my dream that I was actually out of bed Standing a up and yelling at her when I woke up - maybe I wasn't actually yelling ' cause I didn't wake anybody up - but I was definitely talking out loud

I have no idea how long this discount will last, so if you were thinking of ordering the book (with its 10 plays about 11 fabulous people), this might be the time.

So ordered!

Oh sure, I make these all the time - the REALLY hard part is make the tin box to keep them in - those little hinges are tough!

I'm with you. And my metal press doesn't always want to work.

Well, the temperature dropped more than 20 degrees and it's gotten cold out there.

But tap class was fun. Ben, I've been meaning to ask you. How long has Anthony been taking tap?

From DR Jennifer:
I would cast Sally Field to play you. And Jennifer Garner to play me!
Thanks.
After seeing LINCOLN I did think Sally Field could play me.
I definitely can see that Jane! I think I am more of a Meryl Streep gal

"Hello, Dolly!"
Watched this one night before last and was enthralled with how beautiful the Blu ray transfer is.
This film has grown on me through the years. As Gene Kelly's widow said in the "Remembering Gene Kelly" extra, "Dolly" has proven to have legs.
Ron is back@!! Ron is back!! Hurrah!

There is a movie of Les Miz?!
No body ever tells me ANYTHING!

I generally have four or five books going at once, not to mention one in the car. It's gotten worse since starting school, because reading has become something I do for research, not enjoyment.
That said, I've been reading "The Book of Gin" for two months now. And I haven't gotten to the first recipe yet.
I too am a multiple book reader - occasionally a book grabs me that I end of reading ti straight through - the Game of Thrones series did that to me - but most often there is a plethora of books I am grazing through

Hi DR Ron.
Hi! Strict new computer use policies at work. I'll be scarcer than a hen with teeth.
I have the same issue - that's why I am only here at night

http://www.onegoodthingbyjillee.com/2012/11/make-your-own-curiously-strong-mints-altoids.html
Back in the mid-seventies, one of the local radio stations in Seattle interviewed one of the executives of the Altoid Company who was visiting Seattle. The reason he gave for his visit was that when they were calculating their world-wide sales; they discovered that the City of Seattle ranked as the third biggest sales market of all the countries in the world. So they had sent him here to find out how that was possible. The reason he found was that when the coffee market exploded in Seattle, people started looking for something to cure coffee breath at work. Someone stumbled upon Altoids and several coffee chains (i.e. Starbucks) began stocking them at the cash registers of all their stores. Thus started the Altoid fever in the United States.

Finished with my viewing.

Well, I must be off. I have a few errands to run before tonight's final dress/$5 preview performance of the men's version of Theater Artists Olympia (http://www.olytheater.com/)'s production of Quentin Tarantino's "Reservoir Dogs."
;)
George, when you go tomorrow for the women's cast, please tell Dana (who plays Jo) that I said "Break a Leg!" She played my wife in ANNE FRANK.

Really? I would have thought Stockard Channing, but then she is one of my favorites.

Back, from some great movie watching.
It's probably just as well I don't have a projection system. I'd never leave the house.

How did Dracula look? As you know, lots of stupid complaints about the transfer, which I thought was great save for the first ten minutes or so.
-
I'm following the DOLLY threads on HTF with interest and amusement. It's hard to imagine what must be going on in the other forums.
Can't wait to see what this looks like on my screen. It hasn't been professionally calibrated, but it's high quality, I'm very careful with my setup, and I almost always can see what the people who know what the hell they're talking about point out.
I wasn't able to pick up a copy today, so, tomorrow.

It looked FANTASTIC. Just like a real film.
Specifically, it looked like the last Hammer film I saw on the big screen a few years back at the Lafayette, an original 35mm print of BRIDES OF DRACULA that was in mint condition. Beautiful. Colorful. Rich. This disc shall be mine.

Post about it on the HTF - it's important to get this info out there.
