Good morning, all! The neighbor above me spent his night elsewhere, but he didn't arrive at 6:30am with the usual slamming door and lots of heavy footsteps. So, I slept until 7:15, around which time I heard him walking about.

I see my doctor at 11:30 this morning, so until then I will listen to DEAREST ENEMY and make some mixing notes. Around 10:30 I'll walk down to 71st Street for the appointment.

I have very few plans today. On the leading man front, I am waiting to hear from Patrick Cummings, who's in the Washington DC Opera production of SHOW BOAT, Tally Sessions about his August schedule, and Kyle Guglielmo. And I wait

Did not know about the reporter McCandlish Phillips until his obituary ran in the New York Times this morning. As a reformed journalist, I guess I'm a sucker for these stories, but his is well beyond the ordinary.

I know you asked Bruce, but some of my favorite songs were "Indian Giver,"  "Mama Rosa" (the flip side of "Indian Giver") and "Treat Him Nicely" (from "Beach Party").  Hearing "Treat Him Nicely" isn't the same without a rear projection of the ocean at sunset behind you.

Happy Wednesday to one and all!  The latest Broadway Radio Show is up on this here wonderful website and ready for listening.  This time it's a Putting It Together show where I use several cast recordings to put together the complete score of a musical.  The focus for this show is Frank Wildhorn and Leslie Bricusse's "JEKYLL & HYDE" and we will hear the complete score culled from 6 different cast recordings featuring such talented performers as Carolee Carmello, Anthony Warlow, Kate Shindle, Colm Wilkinson, and Rob Evan.  It seemed appropriate with the revival of the show just having started previews on Broadway.  I hope you all enjoy!

We watched LINCOLN again last night.

The criticisms I had when I saw it in a theater a few months ago didn't bother me as much this time, but I still think that Spielberg didn't know where to end the picture.  He could have cut half of the last 15 minutes, and the picture would have been so much better.

Just got back from the appliance store where I paid for a new washer and dryer to be delivered on Friday.

These 19-year-old ones are nearly shot.  Actually, the washer IS hosed (hahaha, get it? - get it??).  It's a top loader, and the top part of the agitator thingy has stopped turning, and it's been going off balance and intermittently doing the jitterbug.  So, it's time to say good riddance.  New ones will be Electrolux (who knew?) front loaders.

So, due to the weather the Merry Maids called a 2 hour late start, but they didn't call me.  It was a miscommunication, the owner thought I had talked to the office assistant when I had just left a message.  So when they weren't here at 9:30 am I went to the office and called Merry Maids.   THey said they'd still come today, but I resheduled instead.  It will give me more time to sort and pick up.  It's all for the best

All the trees here are coated in ice.  IT's been raining this morning so I'm sure the ice is getting a bit thicker.  Today we're supposed to get more "mixed precip" followed by 1-3 inches of snow tonight.  It wasn't bad getting around this morning but tomorrow may be worse

I didn't have any coffee at the house today so I didn't get any until after I gave up waiting for the Merry Maids.  I thought I was sick, lol but I felt better as soon as I had a cup.   I'm going to the office this afternoon, but think I better stop at the store on the way and get some coffee.  If I get snowed in tomorrow, I"m going to want a cup of coffee.

It's bizarre, hearing about those winter storms!  Isn't that part of the country normally clear of it by April?  We thought it would never end here, but we're definitely out of it.  I just wish the temperatures would stay a little more consistent because today we're not getting our 73 because of the overcast, and tomorrow it drops again into the 50s.  But...no winter crap, so I shouldn't complain.

It was 76 on Monday.   We always get at least on April storm.  Last year it came after the trees already had blossoms.  So, when it froze my apple blossoms, they fell off and I didn't have any apples.  The trees aren't out yet, so if the trees don't break from the ice they should be ok.  It's really not that cold out...I think it's in the 40s right now, but it will be closer to freezing later and that's when it gets icky

During last season's "The Voice", one of the contestants announced he was singing "Jennifer Hudson's 'And I Am Telling You'".  It was not Hudson's song, of course. No such thing.  And it was a total hatchet job on the song, itself, as well, although the vocal was very powerful.

I have never heard Judy singing "Ding Dong the Witch is Dead".  I thought, perhaps, she had done a recording of it that they were referencing.  Is it "The Munchkins" doing the singing?

Oh, oh!  This past weekend, "Michael Feinstein's American Songbook" had an episode called "Show Tunes."

During the show, he and his partner were seen going through the archives of Ira Gershwin when they were being stored in San Francisco.   During the tour, he commented on a 78 rpm recording of songs from "The Wizard of Oz".  It was in good shape and is considered rare.  Even better, it was signed to Ira from Harold Arlen.  At that point, Feinstein referenced Ira Gershwin's "secret involvement" in writing lyrics for "Over the Rainbow".

He was no more specific than that.  I had never heard about it.  Anyone know more?

Good lord, DR ELMORE, watch where you're going!

I haven't taken a good header like that in years, but I well remember it is NO FUN.

I have the unfortunate and sloppy habit of occasionally not picking up my feet when I'm out walking somewhere, and I'll catch my shoe on the smallest damned things, like a half-inch-raised panel of sidewalk, or you name it.  Those little moments are embarrassing enough, but actually hitting the deck is something that none of us need to be doing.  It's good that all you did was skin some skin.

But there is a decent chance that we will have a huge snow storm on Friday 15-20cms. The weather is supposed to be 1C (33F). So it just depends. I am really hoping it will be rain.  We are just getting rid of the snow. And I really wanted to take my bike out next week.

I think that's exactly what I did. I suspect it's a motor thing left over from the crushed spinal discs repaired in 1999. Several months ago, I fell up the steps coming out of the subway. Again, no damage but it scared the hell out of me.

No, it wasn't.  It must have been the Sympathetic/Empathic model.  It attuned itself to TCB's moods and aches/pains.

Were you there for the passing, TCB, or was it overnight in its sleep?

India's new entry on the Dracula movie -scene is DRACULA 2012 (which released this last February...of course, one would wonder why they didn't title it DRACULA 2013),

But.....it seems that their Dracula works out  ;)

Yesterday morning Keith woke me up with a rare treat, a beautiful sunrise.  Normally the red sky is slightly to the right of this one.  I wish I had it on video as the moving clouds were dramatic.  After watching for 5 minutes I realized I still had time to catch the last of the red sky with my camera.

I think that's exactly what I did. I suspect it's a motor thing left over from the crushed spinal discs repaired in 1999. Several months ago, I fell up the steps coming out of the subway. Again, no damage but it scared the hell out of me.

Glad you're ok, DR elmore.

Back from the funeral home, where you could almost swear half the town turned out.  But this guy was special.  It was a good experience, lots of people to meet and talk with, great pictures to see, etc.  And it's interesting how this happens, but people were leaving in far better shape than the way they came in.  I guess there's a reason people need to get together, even briefly, in the sad times.  Starts the healing.

Meanwhile, it's 83 here in the DC area.  I'm sure it was higher earlier, but I don't know exactly what temperature.    It's supposed to be more seasonal on the weekend--in the 60's.  Sounds good to me.    I'm in no hurry for summer.

We have gotten down close to freezing on a couple of nights this last week.  This afternoon the wind was really blowing, but it was clear and beautiful out.  I went out to lunch with some old actors down at Anthony's at Point Defiance.  If that sounds familiar Jane, it is because that is where you and George and Keith and I had lunch.

Auditions are coming in.  The one gal I was kind of pulling for didn't do so well this time around - sounded tired and unfocused and fumfering all over the place - but I have a feeling about her, and she knew exactly what I meant - so, she's going to do another pass this weekend.  She's in Barry Pearl's production of Grease so she just needs to get past tech week.  One of the two I heard today was very good - I'd have to work with her a bit on certain things, but so far she is the only person who's done Patrick Bronstein and made me laugh.

Sorry you lost your Kindle DR TCB.....it wasn't very old, was it?

No, it wasn't.  It must have been the Sympathetic/Empathic model.  It attuned itself to TCB's moods and aches/pains.

Were you there for the passing, TCB, or was it overnight in its sleep?

No, it was while it slept.  I have put it in a shoebox, but I don't have a flower bed to bury it.

TCB I am sorry to hear about your kindle -  is there no recourse?

I don't think so.  It is just really bad timing.  I had been loading a lot of books recently.

Red sky at night,
Sailors delight.
Red sky at morning,
sailors take warning

Thank you, all, for the kind thoughts.

I feel really bad accepting condolences for my Kindle, when we should be thanking our higher power that elmore was not hurt.

Congratulations!  I will have to read it tomorrow because my laptop is being stubborn.

Well, this is a pretty cool story...Korean twin sisters separated at birth find each other via Facebook (http://americablog.com/2013/04/korean-twin-sisters-separated-at-birth-find-each-other-via-facebook.html)!

Are Korean twins similar to Siamese twins?

I better get to sleep.  It's supposed to be snowing outside according to all reports, but from my recliner looking at the street light, I can't see it.  So I'll take a gander out the window then mosey up to bed.  I'm doing a training for DHS and juvenile probation officers tomorrow on immigration issues for kids.   I better get my beauty sleep, lol

She certainly can move!
