Well, you've read the notes, the notes were proofed, and now it is time for you to post until the proofed cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: VERBIAGE!
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
Good morning, all!
While I know I had several curious dreams, I remember none of them.
I will head down to Toyland this morning and accomplish some tidying up.I will meet Rob Berman there at 1:00 and meet with him for a couple of hours. Then, I head to West 89th Street for this radio interview about Jerome Moross. I only hope it goes well.
I believe that's my day.
-
Good morning, all.
Working from home today, which is nice. But I'm starting an hour early because I need to leave early. Already I feel rushed.
-
TOD:
My favorite thing to collect would be original cast recordings and theater-related recordings, though they are filling every nook and cranny lately. My treasures are the ones that take out something obscure, to me, at least, and discover something new and wonderful on the recording. Lately, that has included "The New Moon," which without realizing it, I have three recordings of.
-
good morning to all
-
tod
i used to collect cast/studio LPS of musicals, but once CDs came in the value of the "rare" "out of print" recordings overnight became worth nothing.
-
Good morning, all.
Oy! Coffee! In that order.
-
I know collected Disney/Wizard of Oz Sno Globes. Most of them have music.
Disney stopped making them because people couldn't take them on the plane with them due to the limit of how much liquid could be taken on the plane. Don't know why they would have them shipped home.
I recently heard they started to make them again and I bought a beautiful Peter Pan that has the ship light up, Peter files and plays music. A beautiful piece. I took the last box up and had it opened to make sure nothing was broken. Another person saw and wanted one and they had to call around the store to see if there was another one available.
-
;D
-
Good morning.
Wow, I came home after work and watched a movie. Just laid on the couch and watched a movie. Casino Royale.
What a treat. And then 6 hours of sleep. What a treat.
;D ;D

What happen in Boston is just beyond belief. I just do not understand why people do things like that.
Will listen to the news in the car on the way to work for updates.
And, off to work.
-
I loved the pictures yesterday.
Thank you.
Vibes, mega vibes, everyone.
;D
-
Ta da!
DR JEANNE - Son of Fury might be Gene's first picture....she has a supporting role in it and doesn't show up until about 40 minutes in....but there's lots of other stuff happening to keep your attention until then including Tyrone Power and Frances Farmer and George Sanders.
-
I have to go, but I shall return - to discuss the TOD.
-
I do believe this is the first instance of this TOD since I've been here, and I look forward to reading them all.
-
I want to know if Kerry had jury duty.
-
Hi all! I was so sorry to hear the news about what happened in Boston. How scary and horrible. And to hear that it killed an 8 year old! So sad.
It makes me feel kind of guilty on this day when something so wonderful is going to happen for me! Today the granite goes in. I can't wait to take the photos and post them for you all to see the finished kitchen! This afternoon the plumber will come so I'll have water as well. A kitchen sink is a good thing.
I confess I think it is kind of gross to wash dishes in the bathroom.
They are here! gotta go
I will be on the news on Thursday.
-
Danise, I am so happy for you! Can't wait for the photos.
-
Good news, DR Danise!
Greetings from Toyland!

DR Jennifer I think it is time you had your shoulder checked and get into physical therapy
I'm not sure. IT's much better than it was the first weekend. And it's not hurting me that much that I can't do things. It's mostly the pain of getting in and out of bed.
I think it will get better on it's own. It's not like I injured it doing some activity.
-
I was wondering where you were DR Danise. I look forward to seeing your pictures.
-
Tuesday morning greetings! Today I must dodge the thunderstorms to get some errands done.
-
DR Jane (or anybody else), have you ever taken muscle relaxants before?
It gave me an upset stomach. Made me drowsy. And it also made my body feel numb. I knew it would do this because it always does. But I wonder if this is a normal side effect or if it's just me.
I took 1/2 a pill. The normal dose it 2 pills for adults. I don't get why it does this. IT seems so odd to me. I still feel it more than 12 hours later.
-
Muscle relaxants turned my mom into soup. I don't think she ever took a second one.
-
good morning all.....the new BROADWAY RADIO SHOW is now here for your consumption and digestion.....this time, Mr Kimmel is back on the show to chat about Juliana Hansen's new Live CD and A TIME FOR SNGING.....as always, there's also lots of Kritzerland news too! ENJOY!
-
DR Danise - have fun today!

TOD:
I like signed "one-of-a-kind" movie/theatrical memorabilia items, such as 11x14 lobby cards or programs. [Signed 8x10 photos are a dame a dozen.]
Some of my more prized lobby cards include signatures of Humphrey Bogart, Orson Welles, James Cagney, John Garfield, Spencer Tracy, Ingrid Bergman, Abbott and Costello, Lana Turner, Clark Gable, Cary Grant, etc. I also have a card from STAGE DOOR, signed by Hepburn, Rogers and Ball, as well as one from KISS ME KATE, signed by Grayson, Keel, Miller and Rall.
Favorite theatrical programs: THE WINSLOW BOY signed by Basil Rathbone and DEATH OF A SALESMAN (London Production) signed by Paul Muni and Kevin McCarthy.
I also have 10 signed/numbered Al Hirschfeld lithos.
-
They are installing the lovely granite as I type this. They are also going to install granite window seals (not sure that is the right way to spell it) on ALL of the windows in the house! It was one of the things missing. I had used door frames as window seals before because I learned that Home Depot/Lowes sell them but no longer cut them to size. It's going to wonderful to be able to clean them the right way. There was always dirt under the wood.

Listening to the Feltham/BK interview!
In so doing, I had to renew my acquaintance with the FUN of downloading RealPlayer and getting used to the odd way these things play. Oy! :)

TOD: Collections. I stopped collecting things years ago. I have a small house, and there just isn't really room for anything.
-
Hmm. Okay, now what?
The first part ended after a song ended, and I think I'm waiting for the next part to load and play. Is that right? Or is there something else I have to do?
-
TOD - I've developed quite a collection of angels by just casually mentioning several years ago that I needed a "few" more for around our Advent wreath. My Mom is about to get rid of a corner curio cabinet for which we have the perfect place. I think I'll use it to display the portion of my collection that's not Christmas-y.
And, then, there's the Vera Bradley...
-
Congrats, Danise!
-
I've learned that curio cabinets, china cabinets, etc., are worth their weight in gold for collectors. I was given a modern-day but pretty nice one a few years back, by friends who were simply tired of it and done with it. They even delivered and helped set it up. It perfectly absorbed a few small collections of objects I had never had a place to display, and what a difference.
-
My grandmother had an angel collection and I'm afraid I have no idea what happened to it. In all likelihood, my sister took it in after both our grandmother and mother had died. If she did, they're well cared for, because she (my sister) also started an elephant collection some years back that is simply phenomenal. (Disclaimer: I know nothing about elephants.) (Or angels! :) )

Good news from DR DANISE!!

Great News Danise!

That's quite a nice collection DR DRUXY!!!

I guess my most prized items are my letter and photo inscribed to me from Francss Farmer....both of which have seen lots of mileage on the inner web.

TOD: My main collection is my soundtrack albums on records (45s and 33 1/3s) and CDs. Compared to others I know in the soundtrack community, my collection is modest (around 2,700 CDs and LPs), but it represents what I consider good to great film music. Since I can't possibly see every film for which a soundtrack was issued, I'm certain there are plenty of titles I don't have that might be considered great. On the other hand, I can't possibly listen to what I have completely through for what is left of my lifetime, so it's a "reference library", of sorts.
Next comes DVDs and Blu ray discs....and the DVD-Rs I burn from TCM showings, etc. I have several thousand movies on DVD/Blu Ray (sad, to say) and about 1,000 DVD-Rs.
My memorabilia collection consists of 8 1/2 X 11 movie stills, 11 X 14 lobby cards, posters (inserts, half-sheets and one-sheets), window cards (both Broadway and movie titles), presentation mattes (miniaturized stills/lobbies with autographed cards of key actors from some of the represented films -- includes an Arlene Dahl on a matte for "Journey to the Center of the Earth:), movie souvenir books, selected souvenir books from musical plays, and a jumbled assortment of signatures of movie stars, movie composers and Broadway notables.
Among my prizes: window card for "Mack and Mabel"; autograph, with a music notation, by Erich Wolfgang Korngold; a signed contract by Alfred Newman with Sam Goldwyn for scoring "Wuthering Heights"; a signed contract by Hugo Friedhofer for scoring (IIRC) "The Bishop's Wife" (although it might be "The Best Years of Our Lives"); a signed contract by Jerome Moross for scoring "Huckleberry Finn". I have a stage-used artist's palette used in a performance of Baz Luhrmann's "La Boheme" signed by "almost" everyone in the production on stage and off. I have a one-sheet for "The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King" signed by all cast members, production staff (key folks), including Howard Shore who scored all the films. Among my stills are two color British ones from "The King and I" signed by Deborah Kerr; I have a separate color still from "The King and I" signed by Yul Brynner; a Black-and-White still from "The Way We Were" signed by Streisand and Redford. In my record collection, I have a "Hello, Dolly!" autographed by Carol Channing and Jerry Herman.
Some curios include bronze MGM Lion paperweights (complete figure of lion) with "You Are My Lucky Star" inscribed on one side. MGM used to send these out to distributors, etc. I have four of them. Also, a very unusual glass representation of the 20th Century-Fox logo...yellow/gold glass. And, not last or least, an art deco (style) lapel pin of the MGM lion.
All of the above is a key to why I'm not yet retired and why I'm working on a third retirement income (including Social Security).
-
TOD: Collections. I stopped collecting things years ago. I have a small house, and there just isn't really room for anything.
Is it smaller than the 946-square-foot condo in which I house myself and my collection?
-
TOD:
Beginning in the early 90s I started collecting autographed photos. At the beginning I put a lot of effort into searching out home addresses of B film actors, mailing them photos and a nice letter with a return, stamped envelope...50 percent of the time I was rewarded with an autograph on the photo and a nice letter or note from the celebrity. 30 percent of the time the envelope came back "return to sender" and 20 percent of the time the envelope and contents disappeared into thin air.
-
Oh my god (said with reverence), DR Ron.
-
....by the mid 90s I learned of the wonderful Ray Court's Hollywood Show held in Burbank, California several times a year. I began attending it every few years and added many more autographed photos to my collection.
It is difficult to say which of my autographs are my most treasured, however, though my autographed June Kenney photo is likely one of my favorites.
Probably my most valuable is a night club pamphlet signed by actress Joi Lansing. I bought it from a gal whose father had attended one of Joi's shows back in the 1960s.
My most obscure one might be an autographed Margaret Mann photo. Ms. Mann played "Grandma" in two very early Our Gang shorts subjects. I bought it when I was in high school from a guy who had no clue who she was.
-
DR Ron Pulliam, I had forgotten that you collected movie memorabilia. I think it is time we see some more snap shots of your collection! I love looking at lobby cards!
-
(I waited a while then restarted RealPlayer, reloaded the file, jumped to near the end, and this time it went on and loaded the second part.)
(Whew.) (Lordy.)
-
I also have a lobby card from Bridge to the Sun, autographed by Miss Carroll Baker that DR MBARNUM got for me at a Hollywood Show...along with a nice autographed photo of Carol Lynley. Also an autographed photo she returned to me when I sent it to her...
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v222/PutnamPlayhouse/carrolledit_zps273d05ba.jpg) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/PutnamPlayhouse/media/carrolledit_zps273d05ba.jpg.html)
And two cards I received from Miss Allison Hayes when I wrote her a couple of letters..... Note cards, so the fold is in there:
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v222/PutnamPlayhouse/allisonautographedit_zps6b139c9a.jpg) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/PutnamPlayhouse/media/allisonautographedit_zps6b139c9a.jpg.html)
I think I wrote last year about the jug of White Lightnin' that Frances Farmer took to her sister Edith in 1962 for Christmas. Edith sent me the empty jug many years ago....I think I posted a photo of it here earlier.
-
We are certainly reading about some NICE collections today.
-
I also have autographs from many people....including Meredith Willson, Yul Brynner, Stephen Sondheim, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Sally Fraser, Vivian Vance. Yvette Vickers, MR BK and DR Charles Pogue.....and on and on....oh and nude Ercole - Zachary Stains, thanks to DR ELMORE.
Stuff that will mean nothing to anyone after I shuffle off this mortal coil....
-
I do have also have a limited edition print of a Helen Frankenthaler painting that was used to advertise her 1969 exhibit at the Whitney Museum in New York. I have no idea if it is worth anything....I got it framed under glass at a thrift store for $8.

TOD:
My collecting has dwindled greatly over the years, and much of what I used to collect, I have parted with...however, I am a sucker for 1950s kitsch and my current obsession is deer planters. Just something about them puts a smile on my face!

Those pictures put a smile on my face, as well, Mike!
Of course, I remember items like that from 5-and-dime stores and from the homes of friends back in th 50s. Hmmm...wonder how much of that stuff survived?
-
'50s stuff, kitsch and all, is certainly what rings my bell. But hey, I'm a boomer. I do love later stuff, of course, but in differing contexts.
-
What great news, Danise!

Speaking of the word of the day VERBIAGE, this came in an email today. i believe it is not objectionable:
especially in light of that commercial for that company for K-mart that says "I shipped my pants"
HERE'S THE EMAIL I GOT:
Manure... An interesting fact
Manure : In the 16th and 17th centuries, everything had to be
transported by ship and it was also before the invention of commercial
fertilizers, so large shipments of manure were quite common.
It was shipped dry, because in dry form it weighed a lot less than when
wet, but once water (at sea) hit it, not only did it become heavier,
but the process of fermentation began again, of which a by product is
methane gas of course. As the stuff was stored below decks in bundles
you can see what could (and did) happen.
Methane began to build up below decks and the first time someone came
below at night with a lantern, BOOOOM!
Several ships were destroyed in this manner before it was determined
just what was happening
After that, the bundles of manure were always stamped with the
instruction ' Stow high in transit ' on them, which meant for the
sailors to stow it high enough off the lower decks so that any water
that came into the hold would not touch this volatile cargo and start
the production of methane.
Thus evolved the term ' S.H.I.T ' , (Stow High In Transit) which has
come down through the centuries and is in use to this very day.
You probably did not know the true history of this word.
Neither did I.
I had always thought it was a golf term.
-
This was a very enjoyable interview, Mr. BK, sir.
(Nice mention of the soon-to-change RealPlayer situation, too!)

TOD
I'm not a "completist". In most categories, I collect only what means the most to me personally; neither space nor funds will allow it any other way. I'm actually getting better at this. For a few years I was grabbing everything in sight, almost hoarder-style, and I'm happy to say it's been much more gratifying to learn to narrow things down to that which is truly meaningful.
The most "active" collections:
Movies (and a few TV shows) on BLU, DVD, LD and a few remaining Beta/VHS (nearly 3,000 titles - not discs, but individual titles - across all formats).
Music (recorded): Some 1200-1500 LPs, about 100 reel-to-reel tapes, and oddly enough, just a few hundred CDs in which the main growing segment is Kritzerland. If money was no object, the CD collection would have grown by orders of magnitude, but for the most part I content myself with the damage I can do right here.
Music (scores): Broadway, opera, orchestral, some piano.
Books: Music, movies, TV, plays, certain Disney stuff, movie tie-in paperbacks from the '50s-'70s, a small selection of Modern Library, lots of by-and-about Poe and Proust, mid-20th century travel and regional stuff, various and sundry other things. For general fiction and literature -- just a handful of firsts, a lot of Heritage Press, "annotated" this or that -- mostly, those editions that appeal and make the most sense for me, without regard for actual value.
I could expound in detail over all the parts and sub-parts of the above, but these collections aren't that large or impressive in comparison to others here and I'm just trying to keep it general.
To be continued...
-
Maybe next week we can see photos of some of our DRs collections! I would love to see 'em!

Great photos, all.
I have a few autographs in the collection: a limited edition poem of Robert Penn Warren's signed on a celebration of his 75th birthday; a poster of Robert Rauschenberg's, a poster of the front page of Terry McMillan's "A Day Late and a Dollar Short" and her first novel, "Mama," long since out of print: a few album covers, including k.d. lang's first album, Gretchen Cryer's "Last Sweet Days of Isaac" and Steve Allen's "Sophie"; a letter from Frank Capra; an autographed photo of Charles Strouse; a slew of mystery novels, including a half-dozen hard covers from Michael Connelly and James Hall; a paperback of "The Thorn Birds"; and two volumes of autobiography from Bruce Kimmel.
-
Two other collections that I still have, and will likely never part with, are stills and portraits of two of my favorite actresses ....June Kenney and Allison Hayes. I have a ton of photos of each!
I still collect June Kenney photos as I come across them, but have sort of stopped with the Allison Hayes ones as they have become more difficult to obtain due to other Allison Hayes collectors out there snatching all the good ones up before I can get to them...and/or the prices getting way too high.

Will listen to the news in the car on the way to work for updates.
And, off to work.
It is impossible to comprehend, yet we know stories like this have happened before & will continue to. We have been coping with the thought that the bastards that mugged Bryan a few weeks ago might still be roaming his neighborhood. Not wanting to worry us Bryan didn't mention his broken nose, concussion, or battered face that his the concrete as he was knocked down. I have to admire though that he went home, set his nose & used his medical staple gone on his head. The next day he went to work and they sent him for test and then sent him home.

More TOD:
Movie memorabilia: Just a few one-sheets (best ones are an original PSYCHO and REAR WINDOW re-release), some Hitchcock lobby cards and 8x10s, a smattering of items for other films, souvenir road show programs. Some autographs here and there (also on items from the previously mentioned categories - books, records, music, etc.), Rod Serling's reply to my childhood fan letter...
Mid-century travel memorabilia: small collection of cameras representing those I grew up with, other nice little Kodaks, etc., displayed as a tie-in to souvenir collector plates, ashtrays, etc.; postcards, brochures, and...
Maps: A fairly complete collection of National Geographic ones from the beginning up to the early 2000s. Various highway and street maps from periods of my life: the '50s in Ohio, the '60s in Florida, the '70s and '80s in California.
My still-beloved, still-working Commodore 128 computer from 1985/86 -- with now-rare accessories, books, magazines.
Chinese memorabilia brought back by my Great Aunt and Uncle when they ended years of missionary work in deepest China at the point when the Communists were taking over. Largest item is a hand-carved chest which originally held various small things divided among a number of family members. Though I don't seek this stuff out, I'm always very drawn to it (both the good stuff and Chinese "kitsch"), and one wonderful item that fell into my lap for a pittance is a very rare and beautiful 4-volume Chinese-American dictionary from the turn of the century.
And since I said "kitsch", I know there's no competing with MBarnum, but I love my small handful of '50s kitchen and bar items, the aforementioned travel souvenir items, all that kind of stuff.

My goodness gracious - I just got a look at the cover for the new Cinderella cast album. It looks just like the cover of our Cinderella album we did back in the late 1990s - bigger shoe, but that's about it.
-
I went to Staples and got the new copy and then entered the fixes from the first three chapters, which weren't very many, I must say. So, it's too windy and chilly to jog right now, so I'll do that when it's a bit warmer in the afternoon. For now, I'll just mosey on over to Jerry's and proof for the next couple of hours.
-
Very nice DR CHAS SMITH.
Yes, DR MBARNUM you are correct there are some RICH Allison Hayes fans out there who drive up the prices on everything....which I guess we should be happy about since it increases (in theory) the value of our collections.
-
Keep your eye open for other celebrities MR BK!
-
I am, of course, a collectoholic and always have been. I go through stages, but there have been certain constants throughout the years. First editions, of course, would be high on the list. LPs back in the day, reel-to-reel tapes at one point. I had a major movie poster collection, original illustration art, Mars Attacks trading cards, old transistor radios, CDs, DVDs, laserdiscs back in the day, Blu-rays, magazine runs for certain magazines, a few original scripts, some old board games, and on and on.
-
They are really trimming out there - the big yard work starts this afternoon and will continue through tomorrow - they're mostly doing the front of the house this morning and it looks so much better.
-
Got a nice e-mail from someone who says they'll be doing the Brain this summer. I'll find out where. They also want to do Drat! The Cat!, which is now apparently being licensed, although they can only license it with a piano/conductor score, because I have all the orchestrations in storage, which I paid to have reconstructed from the p/c. And I'm not giving them to anyone unless I am the director of the show - that's how it works with Drat for now. Once I've done it, then I'll make a deal with whoever licenses it.
-
Muscle relaxants turned my mom into soup. I don't think she ever took a second one.
Soup is a good description.
But I'm guessing most people don't have this reaction?
I just wanted to see what it would feel like. I thought that 1/2 a pill when 2 pills is the normal adult dose would not do much harm. I really wonder what I would feel like it I took the full dose. I'd probably be asleep for 2 days.
-
If I were to identify one regret, one category in which I could have had something quite impressive by now, it would be autographs. Some that I have are priceless (to me), but had I been just a little bit more forward thinking, a bit more aggressive, and, above all, regular at it over the years ... in all of my areas of interest in the various performing arts, I could really have had a decent collection of them.
A few good ones grabbed way back when (by me, in person, so there's no question of authenticity) are Leonard Bernstein, Alfred Hitchcock, several Hitchcock stars, a few B'way performers, and a few folks in the classical music world. I've got a few scores given to me and signed by James Levine. And I've loved finding signatures in books (we talked about that recently) and even on records. In particular, it was great finding I had an Edna St. Vincent Millay and a W.H. Auden.
I have to say I appreciate BK's signing his books so generously. And hey, just a few more to go, so he's going to have to write some more. :)
-
I do hope I can catch that Brain! Even if it's not around here, just MAYBE it'll be somewhere I can get to anyway...
And, very interesting about Drat!
-
Just got a jury duty summons. Joy.
-
Well folks I have myself a wonderful looking kitchen with GRANITE counter tops! Still need the plumber so I'll have a working sink but I am very happy!

Very nice DR DANISE
Not so nice DR JOHN G

From DR TCB:
Actually, no. Although the company that rents wheelchairs and walkers for the cruise line called me this afternoon. I had rented a rollator, but they called to see if I would accept a scooter for the same price. Ah, Yeah!
I'm glad you are pleased with the rental. I thought you would go with your own chair. Where will you leave yours?
-
Great news Danise.
John, I haven't done jury duty for quite a while, but since 1986 I've done it 6 times total!
-
DR John G, thank you for your feedback on the play.

Which CINDERELLA is this?
The Julie Andrews?
-
I finally got my review copy of DJANGO UNCHAINED today.
The publicity firm sent it to the right STREET address, but the wrong city.
They sent it to NYC, and I live in Austin, TX.

-
DR John G, thank you for your feedback on the play.
I will admit prejudice. I am a big August Wilson fan. I've seen five plays in the cycle and read all of them. Poetical writing.

In your Sno Globe, is the entire ship in the globe or is the globe resting on the ship? I hope that question makes sense.
-
DR Jane (or anybody else), have you ever taken muscle relaxants before?
It gave me an upset stomach. Made me drowsy. And it also made my body feel numb. I knew it would do this because it always does. But I wonder if this is a normal side effect or if it's just me.
I took 1/2 a pill. The normal dose it 2 pills for adults. I don't get why it does this. IT seems so odd to me. I still feel it more than 12 hours later.
I would be the wrong one to ask. I take three a day, and it barely has any effect on my muscles. Well, I guess it stops the charlie horses so I guess it does work.
-
Muscle relaxants turned my mom into soup. I don't think she ever took a second one.
Tomato or Cream of Mushroom?
-
Minestrone

DR ChasSmith, please to snap a photo(s) of your kitchen kitsch.

I am not sure if all of you know or not, but actress Jeanne Cooper has been in the hospital the last couple of days in very serious condition..from what, I do not know.

It does to me. You want to know if the ship is inside the globe....or if the ship is part of the globe's "base".

I'd have to gather some stuff together, and some is put away at present. I'll see what I can do.

Imax to go into former Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood
http://goo.gl/s9Si4
"Imax plans to make the Chinese Theatre one of its main venues for holding premieres of big budget action movies."
"The Imax theater is expected to open by September and with new stadium seating, as well as a new Imax sound system and digital projector, which will later be replaced by a laser projector system that Imax is adding to its circuit."

Hello, everyone.
VERY glad to hear that Danise's kitchen is actually happening! I'm looking forward to the pics!
Congratulations, Danise!
-
Ta da!
DR JEANNE - Son of Fury might be Gene's first picture....she has a supporting role in it and doesn't show up until about 40 minutes in....but there's lots of other stuff happening to keep your attention until then including Tyrone Power and Frances Farmer and George Sanders.
Looking forward to it.

I took them once long ago and was a sobbing mess. I phoned a friend, who wisely asked, "Have you taken any medication?" Yes. "Stop taking it!!" I've never taken them since.
BTW, magnesium is an excellent muscle relaxer.

I haven't been able to keep as much as I'd like over the years, due to many moves and the high cost of real estate. I'm still miffed at my late cousin Marion for tossing many of the family photos. Some would have been worth some money; others had value only to me.
-
Well folks I have myself a wonderful looking kitchen with GRANITE counter tops! Still need the plumber so I'll have a working sink but I am very happy!
Excellent news, DR Danise!
I am home from a long day. I spent two hours with Rob Berman going through the ROBERTA materials and catching up on dish. Then I spent an hour talking about Jerome Moross with a British announcer calling from London. I don't think I made a total fool of myself/

Congrats, DR Elmore. When will we be able to hear that?
-
Ron, I'm envious of your MGM lions! I'd never heard of them. I have a film strip of the lion roaring.
After my father died, I carefully went through the house. My parents tended to keep cash and valuables hidden around the house, so I felt compelled to go through EVERYTHING. In a drawer in the den I found the film strip, along with a few other items. It's strange that I'd never seen these things before. I'd been through those drawers many, many times. My parents didn't keep movie memorabilia. It's a mystery why they had it, but I'm glad to have it now.

It's been tough work making Jill Foster's life a living hell for over 40 years.
-
My cousin is coming in from Scranton to do his comedy act in a new venue tonight. Should be fun.
-
Congrats, DR Elmore. When will we be able to hear that?
ROBERTA? 2014 or 2015! Depending on the recording schedule,
-
One thing I enjoy collecting are old wooden hangers that have advertising on them. In the forties, many hotels had their name printed on their hangers. For some reason, I just love these old things! I like their practical value, as coats and other heavy items need a sturdy hanger, and I also enjoy the nostalgia of that era. Some high-end stores now sell very expensive -- and very handsome -- hangers for men's and women's suits. Lovely, but I'll take the old ones.
I've never heard of anyone else who collects these.

Right. But I was thinking about the radio interview.

Me too! I have a total of three (3) with advertising. But I love the real wooden hangers anyway, and have accumulated about a dozen of the nice old ones.
EDIT: Mine are from clothing companies or stores in the NYC/NJ area.

Here's something I just remembered: How about funeral home ephemera? Especially fans! If I'm remembering correctly, I have a total of: one, and I was thrilled to find it.

TOD: Collections. I stopped collecting things years ago. I have a small house, and there just isn't really room for anything.
Is it smaller than the 946-square-foot condo in which I house myself and my collection?
No, but there are three people living here, and two of them own a lot of stuff. There's no room for more.

How have we made it all the way to Tuesday afternoon before I got around to wishing everybody a happy National Library Week?
Here is a photo our local library. The section on the left was an addition to this original Carnegie library.

DR John G, thank you for your feedback on the play.
I will admit prejudice. I am a big August Wilson fan. I've seen five plays in the cycle and read all of them. Poetical writing.
Did you read the review I posted? If so did you find it similar to the shows you have seen or that this one might be a bit tedious?

I have some kitschy bar pieces that date back a few decades. I'll have to sort them out and photograph.

Just finished a wondrous slice of Black Bottom pie.
-
And in honor of Elmore, I've got "Roberta" on tonight. Not the greatest movie, especially with Randolph Scott, but all those great Kern tunes.
-
I am not sure if all of you know or not, but actress Jeanne Cooper has been in the hospital the last couple of days in very serious condition..from what, I do not know.
I did know this. I watch Y&R and have been following her story. Tracey Bregman (who plays Lauren) and Jeanne's son (Corbin Bernsen sp?) have been posting updates.
I think she had some sort of infection. A few days ago she was in serious condition. But I think now she is doing a bit better and is at least awake.
Her character has been to the hospital in the last few days. She has a brain tumour (HER CHARACTER not her).
-

I don't mind Randolph Scott, but I do mind the bowdlerizing of man-eater Scharwenka, who turns out not to be Polish but American!

Untrue!

Yeah Danise!!

TCB, I've mentioned acting in different things from time to time but not very often. I was Berthe in Pippin. I was also Potemkin in Celebration, that was a fun role.

OMG, I LOVE Celebration. It's hardly ever done. I have the cast recording on my mp3 player and my computer at the office. I saw it a million years ago (around 1977) at the University of Minnesota. A small off-campus theatre company did the show.

I lived in Hashinger Hall at the University of Kansas, it was a creative arts dorm. We had a theater, practice rooms, dance studio, drafting studio, sewing room, woodshop, etc. I was a music major at the time. The first year I lived there, I help reorchestrate Pippin to fit our small orchestra and played a player and Berthe.
Celebration was the second year I lived there and it was a blast. I loved being Potemkin, but it would have been fun to sing "Somebody"
I lived in the dorm from 79-81 so it was close to the time you saw it. I had been listening to the album for years, so I was thrilled to be in it
-
I may have to get that out and turn it into an MP3
-
I'm at home and have been here all day! I took a day of vacation so that I can watch some TV and free up space on my DVR. As of Sunday night, it was 92% filled! :o Right now, it's only 64% filled. With "Reservoir Dogs" having so many performances, I didn't have much time to watch things.
Today, I've watched three episodes of "New Girl," two of "Antiques Roadshow" and two of "Doctor Who." I think that there was another show before I watched "DW," but now I can't remember.

Cast recordings are my favorite thing to collect, also...whether they're records or CDs. Nine is the only cassette that I bought (it had bonus materiel not on the LP). I thought about getting the cassette to The Secret Garden with Barbara Cook, but for some reason, I just never did. That would be cool if Kritzerland could release the cassette version on CD. :D
I also collect key chains/key rings. I have a whole bunch all over the place.

Great news, Danise! Congrats!!

Also, last night (actually, this morning at about 2:00 am) before I went to bed, I FINALLY finished my taxes (online) and submitted them. I received an e-mail saying that my federal return has been accepted! I can check after Friday to find out when I'll get my money. In the past, it's taken less than two weeks. THEN, I'll get my car serviced. :D

What happen in Boston is just beyond belief. I just do not understand why people do things like that.
Will listen to the news in the car on the way to work for updates.
And, off to work.
Jane, I am so sorry! My best wishes to Bryan; and to you and Keith.

Jane, I am so sorry! My best wishes to Bryan; and to you and Keith.
Mine as well. It's an ugly story. Hope he heals soon.

What happen in Boston is just beyond belief. I just do not understand why people do things like that.
Will listen to the news in the car on the way to work for updates.

Fun fotos from DR MBARNUM
Visit my apartment someday DR Jrand, and you can see it all in person. I am especially proud of my kitsch kabinet. :)
A kitsch on the hand may be quite continental!
i'm a little scattered, but given that it's got like as many views as a test pattern, did I ever even mention this "Diamons are a Girl's Best Friend" parody here?

Watching "The Pajama Game" with the delicious Barbara Nichols in an all-too-small supporting role.
She was once my publicity client. A very difficult one. We were not together long.

Watched DJANGO UNCHAINED this evening.
It's a bit long, but I did like it.

Quick healing Vibes for Bryan
Same from us. How terrible that that could happen.

Well folks I have myself a wonderful looking kitchen with GRANITE counter tops! Still need the plumber so I'll have a working sink but I am very happy!
It is about time, Danise!
-
And now, I must take a shower and go to Costco.
Be back later!
I read too quickly sometimes - I read that as " I must go to Costco to take a shower"
Fortunately, not. Actually, I was thinking about getting a new shower head but I forgot to look at what they had. I'll guess I'll just have to go back.

I am still taking my chair, but it will be nice on a 1000+ foot ship to have a motorized scooter for getting around - especially at the buffet line.

I took the last box u
p and had it opened to make sure nothing was broken. Another person saw and wanted one and they had to call around the store to see if there was another one available.
In your Sno Globe, is the entire ship in the globe or is the globe resting on the ship? I hope that question makes sense.
It does to me. You want to know if the ship is inside the globe....or if the ship is part of the globe's "base".
Exactly!

I can easily understand how that could be possible.

I collect cast albums, which I'm sure doesn't surprise anyone here. Most of my cast albums are on a large hard drive and always accessible. They take up too much space. I was selling some on eBay for a while, but they are in storage. So, most of my cast albums these days are digital downloads. But even now, what's worth buying? I like to look for vinyl when I have a chance since I still use my record player.

My production of Charlotte's Web is in really bad shape and we open on Friday. The kids don't know their lines as the director never pushed to get them off-book. The songs are ok, it's a hard score for these kids, and they are singing to a track. I'm a big fan of the tracked show with kids, but these tracks are really bad. I've had to augment them all with the melody lines so the kids at least know where they are. The direction is not good, but I'm not one to point fingers. It is what it is, I suppose.

Here's something I just remembered: How about funeral home ephemera? Especially fans! If I'm remembering correctly, I have a total of: one, and I was thrilled to find it.
Um. What?
I have a funeral home fan from the 1960s.
I have never been a funeral home fan.

Finished viewing and shall now finish doing what I've been doing for most of the day: Proofing.
We also added one more guest star to our Kritzerland show - the wonderful David Burnham.

Keith saw a Yellow-Rumped Warbler in the yard today.
I saw one of those downtown NY today - the cops made him put his raincoat back on and told him to quit singing
ROTFLMAO! That is so much better than the line I was going to use about Keith spending too much time checking out warblers rumps.

Untrue!
Um, Tommy - I think the last line is the punchline of the joke........ :-*
Sorry, I was trying to be helpful. I receive five or six of these urban legends a month from friends asking me if they are real. This story was the last two I have received. Sorry.
