Post by: bk on April 20, 2013, 12:06:36 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of the kaftan, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently parading around in their cowftans.

Very nice, warm sunny day today.

I went to Staples this morning and saw a corner workstation which would suit me perfectly. Trouble is it was too big to get in my car and as it was on special offer they wouldn't deliver.

Good morning, all!  Yesterday afternoon, I baited a moustrap and set it out and the rodent didn't fall for the trap. Hopefully, that little sucker will be dead by Monday.

I was awakened around 12:45am when the printer started running and scaring the hell out of me.  After that, I slept well.

I have the errands to run today that I postponed yesterday while I waited to hear - and did not - from an actor's manager. I did talk to Rob Berman and we have a good plan of attack if this falls through. Rob believes it will work itself out satisfactorily.  We'll see.

It would be nice if I had a good role to offer Guy Haines, who's one of my favorite singers, and perhaps one day, if this series continues (I hope!), I will.

Despite being one of my favorite actors, looking at his credits I realise that Tony Curtis hasn't been in all that many really great films. I remember enjoying "The Purple Mask" in 1955 which was the very first film in which I saw him. I knew his name very well at that time because everyone used to talk about wanting to have a Tony Curtis haircut (remember that?). "The Purple Mask" seems to have become something of a lost film though - I haven't seen it again since it was first released.

The last time I saw Tony Curtis on stage he was playing Osgood in the musical SUGAR at the NJ Performing Arts center. (They retitled it SOME LIKE IT HOT for the tour.)

Lenora Nemetz was also in the show as Sweet Sue.  By all reviews, Tony was awful on opening night, all his reviews were bad, but he had really warmed up by the time I saw it later in the week and the ushers were commenting on that, how it was too bad the critics saw him with no previews, his first night in the space when he was really getting used to the NJPAC theater, which had been very different than the space they had beenin the week before..

Last night was my first night into the throes of Fiesta fun here. Worked at the Fiesta Oyster Bake in which thousands of people get together to eat oysters (or any manner of fried foods, from chicken to cheesecake) and drink. The wine table where I worked was near the jazz stage (there's a country stage and a rock stage, too). I think I had the best of it, though the only food I managed to get was a bucket of grilled oysters and a few oyster shooters that someone managed to drop by the booth.

Here are a few oysters grilling over the coals. This was right behind the wine booth, and the aromas of smoke, shellfish and brine filled the air. Just wonderful.

Yes, Ben, one of the stupidities of living in my state. Another would be that our senators voted against disaster relief for victims of the natural disaster, Hurricane Sandy, but are begging for relief for the people affected by the West fertilizer plant disaster, which was manmade and could have been avoided if the state weren't so lax on businesses operating with who knows how many code violations.

It's been a crazy week for pets and wild animals in our family.  First Adam's cat, Benjamin Franklin was throwing up so he set him outside.  He heard a commotion and opened the door and a fox was on their door step trying to attack Ben.   He said Benny got the best of the deal and he wasn't bitten or injured, but pretty scary.  The fox then went to the back yard, waiting for the cat to come out.  Adam shot at him and scared him away.

Then yesterday my brother let Teddy the minpin (big fat round min pin) out and he heard Ted yelp.  There was a coyote chasing him up to the house!   David said poor Ted pooped half way through the doggy door.  Heck that would scare it out of me too!  David said that he's seen the coyote in the neighborhood a lot so he's going to get someone to hunt it down.  He's not really in town, but since he's the city attorney he can get someone a permit to shoot in city limits.

There 3 in Manhattan, one in Harlem on Adam Clayton Powell Jr Blvd, one on E. 14th St. in the East Village and one on Varick St. in the West Village. They were supposed to put one in the old Limelight on 20th Street and 6th Avenue but that hasn't happened yet and I don't know that it will. We will just have to come out to Deer Park (that's good water) and visit VixDeb and go to IHOP.

Today is the day of my brother in law's memorial....  I will be doing The Rose in sign language.  There will be a candle ceremony, and a Native American fire. My friend Adam will play the flute while people write messages to Mike and put them in the fire....it will be very nice.....

That sounds like a very nice ceremony. I've never heard of a memorial done this way.  Vibes to you all.

Ah, the high-tech approach. I've used paper clips to fix the toilet many times. They're a simpler version of the Swiss Army knife.

I'd been asked a while back by an indie filmmaker who's a regular All that Chat reader and has been following the exploits about City Center and 92nd Street Y on my blog, and he's been asking about doing a very small film based on my whole DataLounge and All that Chat cases.  I officially gave him the Ok to do it, and he says he'll use as many of my music tracks as he can but I won't hold him to that.  Clearly, i won't see money from an independent film by an unknown unless it's a hit, but this will be great to have the story out there, and I like what he's shown me of his work.

(i was going to do a book, maybe combined with a parody lyric collection of stuff written while it was going on, but this doesn't keep me from doing that anyway.)

Vibes this turns out well and you're very pleased!

It'll just be fun to have the story out in some form, even if it is fictionalized.  maybe it'll be even more fun because no one can claim libel or slander when the names are changed and it's "based on a true story" rather than meant to be the true story.  The director will be at the party that they're not allowing Skip or me to be at, it should all be very good.

I'm tryin to decide if I'm going to go to see Casey Musiggman tongiht.  He was on the Voice season 3, don't think he lasted long. I have a ticket and was going to go with Paul, but apparently he's changed his mind since he found out there will be other people there I know.  Hmmm.   I'ts about 30 miles from here and a gray night.  But I did tell the guitar player, who is a friend, that I'd go.   I had made up my mind not to go, but I'm thinking that I may just go jump in the shower and go.  I will know people there and I actually do like country music

Saturday evening greetings from the west side of Lima, OH!  Richard and I arrived here about an hour ago by way of Indianapolis where we went to a funeral (not the same one DR JRand attended).  Ours was for my "Uncle" Howard, who wasn't really my uncle but the husband of my mother's cousin Mary Louise.  When I was little we called them Aunt and Uncle and it took me years to sort out our real relationship.  Anyway, Howard died this past week after 11 years of widowerhood and I felt there should be someone from my mother's family there.  She wasn't up to the trip and my sister is too far away.  I'm glad we were there, but I realized that the only family I have left in Indianapolis are some distant cousins.

And, in case you're wondering, traveling from Middletown, OH, to Lima, OH, by way of Indianapolis, IN, is kind of the long way around...

Back from West Side Story and dinner.  This is the first dinner I've had for two months that I would consider large, but I still think I'm okay with the jog I did.  I had pasta with blackened chicken in a light pink sauce - they assured me that most of the pink was marinara with only a touch of cream.  A touch of cream isn't going to hurt anyone, calorie-wise and I think the pasta itself was around five ounces and that's not too bad,

I, too, wish I had an IHOP nearby -- though, to be sure, it's probably a very good thing for me that there isn't one.

Closest one I know of is in Darien, CT, I think.  That's a good 45 minutes away, minimum.  White Plains, too, and that's even farther.  However, both of these (at least last time I saw either of them) are the original A-frame buildings.  I really love those.  When I go to something like an IHOP, I want to be able to step into the past, damn it.  Of course I go into the contemporary ones (that look like every other damned restaurant) when in Ohio, etc., but I like me my original International Houses of Pancakes.

Got a tip that yet another FYE store is closing (they've been closing for years!), and sadly, it's the one that has been absolutely the best for me when it comes to finding great secondhand (sometimes firsthand) copies of things like out-of-print Criterions, at prices usually better than online.  So I schlepped down there (to Port Chester, NY, near Rye) for my last visit, and at least came home with a dozen nice finds.  The last finds.  The store is already half emptied out.
Title: Re: THE KING OF THE KAFTAN
Post by: ChasSmith on April 20, 2013, 07:40:05 PM
By the way, for anyone who doesn't know, let me clarify that FYE is actually a store to avoid -- except for the used goods segment.  I do not know how they are still staying in business, in spite of their (annual?) store closings.  Highest prices in the universe.  But they must somehow sell a lot of stuff, and the kids seem to love them.

I stayed home.  There's a part of me that is still mad at Paul for making plans when we had plans....but he did offer to change them and he did give me an excellent excuse not to go.  Reading the facebook posts, I think he's there with the other group, but I could be wrong.   I sent him a text and asked if he went and he didn't answer.  It's funny it's one of those things I don't feel bad I didn't go to the concert, but we had the plans for over 3 weeks and after he said he had other plans,  I askd him honestly if he wanted to go and he said "no" So, I let him off the hook by saying I didn't want to go either.  I will feel hurt if he actually went to the concert with the other people.

And I have to leave first thing in the morning to go visit my parents. Dad has a bad cold so I'm just going to their house.  Mom and Dad are skipping church because the are in the choir and the choir doesn't sing, so they figure they don't have to go lol

I can understand that logic.

I got grocery shopping done today...watched a few Indian films, one Punjabi and on Hindi...did some other stuff around the apartment. Did no laundry, though...and that was my day.
