Well, you've read the notes, the notes moseyed along, and now it is time for you to post until the moseying cows come home.

I have not ever played in the stock market, although I know several people who have, and several relatives who do.  Their one big complaint in broker fees that cost them a big chuck of their "profits" no matter how they try to manage it.

Good morning, all.

Oy.  Last night I started slipping backward instead of moving forward with this damned cold.  I am SO glad I've moved my Ohio trip to the week after next.  For now, I just need to rest, play the last two shows, and keep on resting till this thing passes.

Coffee!

I was going to go out to the Lafayette Theatre this morning to see a 35mm print of the Danny Kaye HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSEN, but last night I came home to the nicest thing -- an email from Peter Apruzzese the projectionist who knows I drive over an hour to get there, advising me that he received the print yesterday and it looks faded to red.  He was going to check further this morning, but guessed it was a no go and that he'll have to run the Blu-ray.  That's too bad -- it happened to them a couple of years ago with the Hammer HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES -- but as it turns out, I desperately need the rest anyway.

I had a 401(k) that was mostly in stocks so I've certainly been aware of the effect of the ups and downs over the past several years.  But I've never played the stock market in the usual sense.  Definitely fascinated, but ignorant.  I would feel totally intimidated by it, and by those fee-eating brokers.

I ran lights for a production of Bullshot Crummond years ago and had the pleasure of flicking mayonnaise on the actors as they sent a bird (forgot what kind it was) on its way. As the show ran and got looser and funnier more mayo was flung.

Good morning, all! I slept very poorly, some of it provoked, I'm sure, by physical problems and much of it from the events of yesterday afternoon with a brouhaha provoked by my intense dislike for one of the posters on another site, who seems to know little but who works as a published critic. His usual modus operandi on that site is to post an inquiry based on one of his often misinformed misguided opinions and to defend it endlessly, no matter how many others refute it or take an opposite opinion. During the 1010 revival of FINIAN'S RAINBOW, he obsessed over the "blackface" problem of the role of the bigoted senator, although he apparently has no problems of singers donning blackface in AIDA. Photos and other opinions did nothing: his obsession and responses were endless.

I decided then and after several other things he's pulled that he was a fool I suffered with no patience at all. I ignore him alot of the time but I've been in a rather belligerent mood lately and I prefaced my response that "whenever he posts, I see red." I then said nothing else remotely critical about him but gave my opinion on the recording in question (Bernstein's conducting WEST SIDE STORY with Dreary Te Kanawa) and this was followed by a shrill post  from him threatening to unsubscribe and ending with a WTF?, so I responded, saying this was the third time he'd unsubscribed when he got his panties in a bunch and he shouldn't tire himself out with empty threats.

I got several thank you responses from members who clearly find him insufferable as well along with a lot of "this was uncalled for" responses from others. I apologized to the subscribers and then felt rotten about the situation the rest of the day.

So, today I'm spending in solitude and contemplation, working on liner notes and cleaning house.

T.O.D.

I have more than enough trouble balancing my checkbook; so I would be a mess on the stock market.  I had a Deferred Compensation account that dropped half of its value back in 06 or 07.  Now I have a financial advisor who handles my retirement funds for me.

Good morning, all.

Rise above, Elmore, and ignore. He's not worth it.

Slept, by and large, eight hours, which was much needed after the thunderstorm the other night robbed me of about four hours of sleep. I might have slept longer but JB wanted to play and he can get very loud when he demands that.

TOD: Other than having stocks in my various 401(K) plans and stock I bought as an employee of a New York Times paper, nope. That's too much for me to take care of. I do monitor the plans quarterly to see how they are doing. When I hit 50 last fall, that was supposedly a marker to become more conservative with how much you have in stocks vs. mutual funds, etc., but stocks have been performing as if on steroids, so I've left everything alone, for now.

Oh, the irritation continues. I had seventy-five minutes on the dryers and when I went back to the laundromat, I should have had about 10 minutes left. I found a fat older Latina drying her things in the dryer I had been using.  She knew where my laundry was - someone had put it into a laundry cart and set it aside - and of course she denied any involvement and claimed that the dryer was empty when she began hers.  I called her several four letter words, several in Spanish, and complained about her to the manager.

Then, I folded my clothes, and, as I left, I surreptitiously opened the dryer door so her time will run out and nothing will dry until she notices it. I hope she loses  a lot of change before she discovers it.

Rise above, Elmore, and ignore. He's not worth it.

Clearly, others find him insufferable, too, but he works as a "critic" and knows nothing, he is obtuse, he misses irony, has little sense of humor, and thinks he's God's gift to intellect a fool I suffer with no
patience at all. If there were a picture dictionary of the world, he would be the photo for "clueless."

But, all the same, I let him get to me and I'm clearly in a hostile mood I do not like, like letting that old bag pissme off for stealing my time and monet at the laundromat: $0.50 worth. It wasn't the theft, it was her rudeness.

I get the daily email summary for CASTREC.  I would never dream of putting my own ignorance out there, but I love skimming over it every day.  The day in question just got here.  Holy sh moley.  I have no idea who that guy is, but I would answer the question "who better to conduct Bernstein's music than Bernstein?" with:  ANYBODY (not to be confused with Anybodys).

The man was a genius, certainly one of my favorite iconic people of the twentieth century, and there probably are some decent recordings of his out there -- but not of his own musicals.  Going as far back as the early 1960s Symphonic Dances, the recordings are enthusiastic as all hell, but sloppy and just kind of all over the place.  Other American composers like Gershwiin, for whom you'd think he would have been an ideal interpreter, fared little or no better under his stick.

The magnificent failure of the DGG recording of WSS is endlessly fascinating.  DR Elmore fights the good fight.

LOL!  Actually, I love visiting Randy and Jo. It's the Macbeths I fear.  Maybe I'll look into flight. the killer is the car rental.

Outside of my tiff at the laundromat, I've had a constructive morning: laundry finished, floors swept, vacuumed and mopped, and I need a larger trunk for my bed linens: I have no idea where I'll put this comforter now that the winter is over! I would kill for another room!

Callie's leg seems better but the antibiotics don't seem to be agreeing with her intestinal system....if you get the drift.  It does mean that she doesn't have to take her usual meds this morning, as there is no point in stool softeners.   I'm still quite concerned, though. She seems pretty weak.  I'm hoping once we're done with the antibiotics she'll keep improving

A very good friend of mine from church is not likely to make it through the day. Dolores fell much more than a month ago (I think I posted about it back then), and it has been one series of downhill events ever since. The latest is pneumonia. A DNR was posted this week for her, and her son and daughter-in-law are there with her now. Dolores hasn't been conscious much in the few weeks, and when she has been, she hasn't acted if she knows her surroundings or what the present day is. It is a blessing and yet it's difficult letting go.

Dolores hasn't been conscious much in the few weeks, and when she has been, she hasn't acted if she knows her surroundings or what the present day is. It is a blessing and yet it's difficult letting go.

DR JohnG, I send her family my condolences. The deathwatch is the worst part of the cycle.

Today, I need to go to work for a few hours, then later this evening, I'm ushering for a local dance company's production of Coppelia (http://wcpa.squarespace.com/upcoming-events/2013/5/3/coppelia.html).

I'm not a fan of ballet, so I'm bringing my Kindle.

;)

The score for COPPELIA is quite wonderful!

I'd been told that Things Would Be Happening in the Heavens that would make April and May quite explosive. That seems to be the case for DR Elmore, and it is also the case for me. The plumber phoned this morning to ask if I'd be home in twenty minutes. We'd scheduled him to come at noon, but now he said he could only come in twenty minutes. He's a real Neanderthal IMHO and scheduling is ALWAYS a problem with him. So I jumped into the shower and threw on some clothes. Now he says he can't fix the toilet. It's working, fortunately, but I don't know what they'll do next. I tried to suggest another plumber, but the manager loves said Neanderthal--he's cheap--and wouldn't consider it.

Then, someone I was trying to conduct some business with rejected my payment, saying that I knew his terms and had chosen to ignore them. What?! I was just trying to pay him. He also misquoted me, giving the opposite meaning to what I had said. Oy and double oy!! Chaos in the Heavens!!

Maybe JRand wishes to weigh in on this.

Oh, silly me!

Well that's an option.  I wouldn't recommend it as killing tends to get you a much smaller room, although there is no rent there and they do the laundry for you

Only if you're convicted.  ;)

Ditto! I tried these once and they really did work. I wonder if any sturdy plastic bag would do, as it's just a matter of getting all the excess air out.

A very good friend of mine from church is not likely to make it through the day. Dolores fell much more than a month ago (I think I posted about it back then), and it has been one series of downhill events ever since. The latest is pneumonia. There are 5 people on CastRecL that I routinely ignore so I don't even read their posts. When I see them in my inbox they get deleted immediately so I didn't see the entire thread about Bernstein's WSS. That being said, Mr. C is an ass, along with 4 others I have determined to be asses.

TOD:
I have been known to invest in the stock market, but playing in it, no. I make the distinction because many people seem to think the market is a casino, with winning dependent upon the right tip, rather than doing your homework. If you don't have the time or temperament for it, it's best to leave it for others. Since 2007, the investment environment has been a very difficult one.

Had a very good stumble-though - a bunch of flubbed lyrics in the first third, then everyone settled down and just did their stuff.  Hopefully they got all that out of their collective systems.  But the songs are great, the structure works, and I think it will be a fun evening.  As usual, people are last-minute canceling, which I truly loathe - but we picked up more reservations so we're still hovering around ninety.

Got Callie to play a little tonight.  She used both her front legs and I could barely detect a limp.  She seems to be doing a lot better.  I think we're going to get past this....whew!
Yipee!

Thanks

DR elmore has it is spring can you take the train for a day trip to someplace relaxing?

Larry, it's a thought.  After the tarot card death threat, someone suggested that I might want to find someplace more relaxing than the Broadwayworld "Off-Topic message boards."   Like maybe a snakepit.   :)

;D

The way DR's talk about those boards I would want to stay away from them.

It really is 2 to 3 % bad eggs in a sea of wonderful people.  it's just that on Broadwayworld the bad people seem to post much more than the nice ones.

I'm not a particular fan of ballet, but it was not bad.  The set and costumes were very good and all the dancing was better than I've seen from local productions in a long time.  And I did enjoy the (canned) music.

There are 5 people on CastRecL that I routinely ignore so I don't even read their posts. When I see them in my inbox they get deleted immediately so I didn't see the entire thread about Bernstein's WSS. That being said, Mr. C is an ass, along with 4 others I have determined to be asses.

I get the digest, so I only scroll down to the specific topics that I want to read.

Just got a call that Dolores died about an hour ago. She's resting now, but she will be missed.

John, my condolences to you and her family.

They're going to get a couple of Costco pizzas and my mom is going to make Chocolate Lush for dessert...I specifically asked for that.  It's my favorite!
