Well, you've read the notes, the notes had NO revisionism, and now it is time for you to post until the revisionist cows come home.

Kinky Boots was great fun. I really enjoyed it. Billy Porter and Stark Sands are marvelous.

The score while highly pop/rock flavored does what the songs are supposed to do, which is tell the story and move the show along. The other performers are all excellent. My only caveat is I lose some of the lyrics and I think it's a mix of the accents (which are OK but after listening to the BBC for 10 years, I don't think they are great) and the songs themselves. In an effort to get the power of the song out there and to belt at high levels I'm losing words, but overall, I would highly recommend this show.

I doubt that I will see Matilda before the Tonys but even if I did, after what I've read, pro and con, I think I would probably prefer Kinky Boots (for the Tony) over Matilda.

We shall see what happens on June 9th.

Good morning, all! I wanted to sleep longer this morning because I slept very poorly last night, but my mind kept telling me to get out of bed and get to work. So, I'll be heading down to Toyland very shortly and bind 25 vocal scores. When I get home, I've got the week's laundry to accomplish.  After my round with that insane Latin woman who emptied my dryer last weekend, I'd like to avoid her as much as possible and Saturday morning appears t be the day she occupies the laundromat.

I believe that Anthony Morelli may visit me at Tyland to pickup a CD he wants to hear and I look forward to visiting with him.

Very much enjoyed the Varese history. I used to buy so many Varese LP records when the label first started (I think it was the only label specialising in soundtracks) and with their names on so many albums, I always tended to associate Tom Null and Scott Holton as the main movers behind the label. They released so many classic soundtracks in those early days but the label never seemed quite as interesting to me after they had departed.

I’ve often thought obsessive Blu-ray collectors are a bit eccentric to say the least but eccentricity has reached new extremes on reading complaints on a Blu-ray forum about a forthcoming release. A film which has a cultish following has been eagerly awaited by some people on the forum but as soon as the distributor announced that the film was being paired with another film, as a double bill, there were huge cries of rage. Instead of seeing the accompanying film as a bonus (to watch or not watch) it was seen as some sort of ugly barnacle attached to their favorite film and such a thing shouldn’t be allowed to happen. Their beloved film should be released on its own - not besmirched by anything else. This resulted in the inevitable “No sale” comment. Understandably, the distributor commented “Sometimes I don't know why we even bother”.

One of my favorite Nick Redman projects is the STATE FAIR cd release that included the original 1945 film AND what was left of the recordings from the 1962 film....

I have the DOT LP release of the latter, but not all of those songs seem to be on the CD release....and that's too bad....still lots of fun.  It still seems to be available from some Amazon sellers at a high price....but not a premium price.

Who owns the old DOT  catalog now?  I know there was a Gale Storm release from VS....

Wish I were breakfasting on what Doug R did.

Happy Friday vibes.

Weird weather right now. Huge thunderstorms started when I went to bed last night, and they were there all the way to work this morning. Now, all of a sudden, there's this weird sunlight with half a gray sky and half blue.

DR DOUG R -- Nice observation.  The advent of Blu-ray collecting seems to have sent a lot of people with the collecting bent right over the edge.  I've never seen anything like the incredible MINUTIAE of collecting that these people so OCD-edly obsess over.  It's really beyond belief, and I actually enjoy occasionally reading through a thread or two of their fanatical ravings.  It helps me to appreciate my own relative sense of balance.

Regarding discussion earlier this week about shows with tiresome characters (that's the way I interpreted it), I love "Person of Interest" but I'm really "over" the character played by Amy Acker.  She's been recurring this season and escaped last night's seaso finale to suggest a return in season three.

Acker is always portraying a warped, psychotic or "unusual" person in her TV appearances.

One of my favorite shows -- "Person of Interest" -- had it's second season finale last night.  Quite an episode, too.

I think I know what we are watching tonight.  I believe we also have an episode to CASTLE to see.

yes lots of rain yesterday and today....but the sun is shining now.

We recently found the marriage information for our paternal grandparents....Willie Arthur Earles and Bertha Bell.....they were married February 2, 1909, by Judge Beatty Cecil in Huntsville, Scott County, Tennessee.

Willie had met my grandmother's cousin Minnie Bell when they were both at Middlesburg Teacher's College in 1905, and Minnie had done a little matchmaking.....and Willie's dad didn't want them to be married since Willie had started teaching back home in Casey County Kentucky, and teachers - even males - had to be unmarried.  But I guess Willie took the train down the Huntsville, and he and Bertha talked it over with her parents and then got married.....

I agree and I haven't seen the latest episode.

I would prefer to see more of Sarah Shahi.

Thanks for the vibes.  We have just survived about 24 hours without food....well the cats went about 24 hours without food.  I gave some to Ricky and Boo, but only a little.  Then I ended up contacting my old vet and transferring back to her (her partner was pretty rude with my follow-up questions).  The other vet knows them and all their problems. She gave me some prescription food and some stuff to sprinkle on Callie's food.   It's ID and we've had that food in the past but none of them would eat it.   After 24 hours with very little food all three of them gobbled it down.  I figure it's not going to hurt any of them. They are all sleeping now.  Boo kept it down, at least I think she did and Callie seems ok for now.   Whew! again

Anyone else finding themselves behind the BD-watching eight-ball?

I have several and one that just arrived here at work a few minutes ago:  "Strictly Ballroom"!  I love this movie. :D

I'll have to watch it later tonight, though...I have a union meetin'.

That reminded me of the incredibly gorgeous, Paul Mercurio.  So, I looked him up.  Apparently, he has been spending more time judging brewery competitions and less time dancing.

P.F. Chang's was its usual boring self today - Adryan and I split some almond/cashew chicken and some grilled salmon - the latter had no flavor whatsoever and the former was merely okay.  The good news is, I ate only half of each dish and since the calories are available to view on a separate menu, I had less than 700 - that plus the jog, means I can eat another 700 of anything I choose.  I'm going to Gelson's momentarily - I think some chicken noodle soup will be nice (under 200 calories) and then whatever else I find that looks like fun.

It wasn't the airline, but the airport that wouldn't help.  Once Icelandair arrived on the scene (5 hours after my arrival), they couldn't have been nicer, but the airport employees and the security staff could care less about me.

http://thegrio.com/2010/05/10/legendary-singer-and-actress-lena-horne-dies-at-92/

OMG!

I saw her do her one woman show, "LENA HORNE: A LADY AND HER MUSIC.  I am usually not a fan of those one person shows, but she was incredible.
Got to interview her when she toured with that show. A real highlight for me.

Yeah, but did she teach you how to be a stripper?

Nope. That was Dolores' job. Sorry.

No, Lena would have taught him to be a ecdysiastic dancer.

This was not only the carpet inside the casino, but outside the casino and down the passageway.

And there were several of these type of murals down the hall outside the casino.

Ha ha ha! This is great! I am SO PROUD!

Well Time Warner is down and they haven't a clue as to when it might be bak. Brilliant. Of course before that reality I had a guy trying to tell me everything was fine on their end and it was my modem. Yeah sure. So notes may be very brief this evening if they don't fix the problem before midnight as I will have to write on my iPad

Well, we will just add them to this morning's notes and divide by two!

ParaNorman is cute. Not great, but I loved the line when the zombies are about to attack and the school history teacher yells to the crowd, "Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war." But the crowd doesn't understand what she's saying, so she yells, "Let's rip 'em to shreds!"

And speaking of JULIUS CAESAR, I will have to post my photo of Hamlet's castle.

Getting up tomorrow morning to see THE VIKINGS (1958) at the wonderful Lafayette Theatre.

But...  "We welcome members of "The Fellowship of Vikings, Berserkers & Barbarians" to the Lafayette for this week's show!"

Now, as far as I can recall, I've never seen THE VIKINGS.  Nor have I seen members of "The Fellowship of Vikings, Berserkers & Barbarians".

Should I be afraid?

Probably.

There was a period in the Sixties when THE VIKINGS and TRAPEZE were always being shown as a Double Feature.

The big surprise of "ParaNorman" for me was that one of the characters turned out to be gay.

I took a long walk just because I was so irritated with Time Warner.  Just got back and we're back online, hopefully for good now, but just in case I'm going to write the notes now and post them.
