Well, you've read the notes, the notes believed in miraclessss, and now it is time for you to post until the miracle cows come home. They believe-uh in MOOracles
-
And the word of the day is: QUACKSALVER!
-
Here is the direct link to Miss Kuhlman and Dino - remember, the video takes about thirty seconds to start, then Dino comes in at around 3:35.

-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
Good morning, all.
Last day of work before leaving for Louisville.
Too much to do today, too much to pack.
-
Good morning, all! I got some sleep last night, but it didn't stop the insane dreams.
The two I remember were my walking all over Queens trying to find the new apartment of a Drama Book Shop friend who died from AIDS around twenty years ago and waiting with a black friend in a restaurant/hotel surrounded by my possessions sitting on rolling carts and waiting for my dad to come and pick us up.
This morning, I have to stop at Kinko's and pick up a carton for these vocal scores, pack up the shipment and get it to Fed Ex. At 1:00pm, Rob Berman and I are hearing a possible leading man for the recording, and my friend Curtis asked me to give him a lead sheet of a Gershwin song for our friend Marnie to sing this weekend at the wedding of his friend Tom and his partner Travis.
Tomorrow, I'm working at home on the liner notes!
More coffee.
-
;D
-
Good morning.
;D
-
Got nothing. ;D
-
I think that means I'm tired.
Not enough sleep even for dreams.
Mega vibes everyone for Tuesday.
:)
-
Thank you vixmom.
;D
-
I believe.
-
Good morning, all.
Got a very busy day preparing to leave tomorrow. Coffee!
-
Boy, is that a trip down memory lane. It took a few seconds for the name Kathryn Kuhlman to register, but between that and the video... wow!
-
Yes, I believe-uh in miracles.
Now and then some of Kathryn Kuhlman's shows are re-braodcast on the Jan and Paul Crouch show on their vast television system TBN ....where Dino is still a regular. He now plays a rhinestone encrusted piano....
-
I believe I'll have another cup of coffee.
-
Oh, and I remember Ms Ruth Buzzi's spot on KK impersonation as well....
-
George - LOL, that milestone capture was great just as it is, you are wonderful!

I posted this elsewhere but wanted to share my warm memory of Joyce Brothers:
It was the programming person for my law school's speaker group, (before answering machine were the norm). During summer break, my parents had gotten used to people calling at home from offices like those of wonderful speakers like Jane Pauley and Andy Rooney and Ellen Burstyn, to talk over their plans and topics for social issues and entertainment matters, in what was called the "Harvard Law School Forum." (They didn't get paid at a very adamant rule of the law school, but everyone tried to treat them really nicely, of course!).
Joyce Brothers, it happened, decided one evening to just pick up the phone herself rather than have her terrific assistant do it, and my dad got the call while I was out. (For some reason, I remember what i saw that night, The Dance and the Railroad at the Public.) My friend Keith relayed the next day my father having been on the phone with him asking, "Do you know where Freddie is? Dr. Joyce Brothers is trying to reach him."
Keith called me the next day and burst out with [as if I were a patient of Dr. Brothers or something]: "Who the [cuss word deleted] are you that Dr. Joyce Brothers called you? And at home yet?"
It didn't work out with dates for her to speak that year, but I had such lovely conversations with her - and really, she never tried to analyze anything I said, LOL - just a warm, delightful lady, who while she was planning to do a speech, was genuinely interested in what the students would be interested in hearing about.
-
Greetings from Toyland!
-
I've picked up the last photocopies and a carton for shipping the vocal scores, and now I wait for my colleague Curtis to send the shipping info.
-
Tuesday morning greetings! In about 30 minutes, I'm expecting a phone call from Megan at AAUW national in which she will coach me through our new website. Then at 2pm, the out-going Middletown president and I are meeting to discuss transitioning from her administration to mine. We had a lovely installation banquet last night, but the new officers don't start officially until July 1.

Nice story DR FJL....thanks for sharing.
I always remember Dr. Joyce Brothers in the out take from her appearance on HAPPY DAYS when she flubbed her lines and pronounced the family dog a homosexual.....

-
The package is ready for shipment. I'm waiting on a revised customs form, and then I'll take the package to Fed Ex.

I wonder if that's because she though Joanie was a lesbian?

TOD:
My favourite outre show was Schoenling All-Nite Theatre with host Bob Shreve: Schoenling was a beer company in Cincinnati and Shreve a local TV host who had been there for years doing cartoon shows and Three Stooges, etc. But All-Nite theatre was a blast where Shreve could get a little irreverent and wild. It was on Friday nights, as I recall (maybe Saturdays too)...and it started around 1:00 (maybe it was earlier...11:30?) and went till about dawn, with three movies (sometimes good, mostly crappy) and Bob rambling in between them, pitching beer, reading fan letters, and doing bizarre comedy with a strange host of supporting players like Chickie (a rubber chicken), Spidel (A spider that flew by on a piece of string), and occasionally guests (like Morganna, the big-chested stripper known as the Kissing Bandit because she'd run out on the field of ballgames and kiss players). Go to Youtube and type in Bob Shreve and it will probably bring up clips of the old show. There is also a fb page for it.
-
Just checked Shreve on youtube. The Show (or a variation of it was also called PAST PRIME PLAYHOUSE and did air on Saturday night. Bob does have a website: www.bobshreve.com

It's a gorgeous day today in Oakland CA.
-
Have been at work for 90 minutes. It seems like five hours.
-
Don't get me wrong. I'm busy. It's just that the work I'm being given to do this morning was wanted yesterday, so there is pressure afoot.

I had an interesting ride home last night.
Actually, it wasn't exactly the ride home; it was one of the stops near home that elevated my adrenaline.
I was behind a car at a traffic light where I needed to turn left to complete my trip home. I was about one-half mile from my garage. The light had just changed to red, and I heard sirens. They were definitely coming toward us, but I couldn't tell from which direction.
The sirens got louder....and louder. Suddenly, a white van appeared in the intersection and the driver made a very sharp and dangerous left...into the lane opposite where I was sitting. I figured he was desperately trying to get out of the way of whatever was coming. As it turned out, he was trying to get away "from" whatever was coming. He hit the curb, swerved out a little and then hit the curb again. He was about two car lengths behind me when he came to a stop. The driver's door opened and a white guy fell out of the van onto the road. My first thought was that he was ill or having a seizure or heart attack or something. Then I saw the gun that fell out with him. Then came the onslaught of police vehicles: Three of them made the same very sharp turn. One stopped in the lane beside me and took out his pistol. Another stopped between my car and the van blocking my sight. At that point, I was relieved that I was less a target if that dude had decided to start firing. More cars came. Then motorcycles. The guy in front of me made a slow right turn and I was suddenly at the light. When it turned green, and since the sirens had stopped, I made my left turn and completed my trip home.
It was all surreal!
-
Yikes, DR Ron, that's some story!
-
The packager has gone to Fed Ex and I just rode the elevator with Edward Hibbert, who has an office in the Toyland building.
-
Did you offer him a glass of ICE WATER?
-
Did you offer him a glass of ICE WATER?
LOL! No. we just talked about a friend's book I'm pushing.
-
I'm up - eight hours, barely. Must be jogging in twenty minutes.
-
Scary story, Ron.
-
Great photo of Vera Ellen.
-
It looks as though I'm registered to take my second to the last class for my master's. I'm not looking forward to it. The time off and problems with the school over registration, etc., have left me with little desire to finish these last two classes.
-
I think I first heard of Susan Watson on the TV version of THE FANTASTICKS.
-
George - LOL, that milestone capture was great just as it is, you are wonderful!
Thanks, Fred! And so are you!! :-*

Hello everyone,
Yesterday I watched The Bridges of Madison County. What a treat. I saw it years ago.
Meryl Streep and Clint Eastwood were amazing.

Topic of the Day (sort of):
This is by far NOT my "favorite outré TV show of the late 1960s and early 1970s," but the weirdest local show that I can think of was on in the early 1990s on TCTV (Thurston County Television), the local public access channel. There was a guy by the name of Jake Drake who was...get this: a nekkid preacher! :o He would read the bible in the buff late at night. I don't think his show lasted very long. I came across THIS (http://www.deseretnews.com/article/292560/NEWS-CAPSULES.html?pg=all) little mention that was originally published in 1993:
Across the nation
NUDIST: A television program in Olympia, Wash., featuring nude Bible readings was yanked off the air by Thurston County's public access television channel this week, but not because of the program's controversial content. Olympia police asked for a temporary suspension after the program's producer received a death threat. Self-styled preacher Jake Drake disagreed with the cancellation of his Bible readings in the buff and says he's "prepared to die at any second" for his beliefs. Drake's half-hour programs include full frontal nudity as he sits in a chair and reads passages of scripture. The program does not violate city laws against pornography, according to the director of the public access channel.

We had some local talent shows that showcased students from schools in the area that was sometimes remarkably entertaining, but more often was not.
In the very early days of my cable viewing on a cable service whose initials I cannot remember, there used to be a program called Potporri - or however it is spelled - that featured a Greek woman who introduced Greek bands, singers, and dancers....it was very interesting - and always entertaining.
Locally we had our late movie hosts including Sammy Terry - and Mary Ellen Reid who invented a character named Wilhelmina. She introduced 50's teen movies dressed as a cleaning lady....I have a photograph of her that she sent me....I shall look for it...
-
We just signed Patrick Cummings, who's playing two roles in the National Opera production of SHOWBOAT:

Looks like the actress has two roles of her own she is playing.
-
Great casting news Larry.
-
Looks like they had nicer costumes than when I was in SHOWBOAT playing Frank....here are Frank & Ellie in THAT particular production....I think we are singing our big Act Two number: Goodbye, My Lady Love.....and I accompanied myself on the tambourine.

That Kathryn woman is scary.

That little boy in the clip was probably scarred for life.

Did a three-mile jog, had a grilled cheese and bacon sandwich, picked up some packages, have been sending sheet music and mp3s as I get them - and that's been that so far.

I didn't catch it -- what was Simon healed of?
ETA: spasms

I walked 20 minutes to hitch a ride to my book group this morning & then had a nice 20 minute walk home. I dawdled talking after the meeting with the hostess & then with the woman who picked me up.
I have had a nice day today.

I am still looking for my leading man.

Or, maybe my leading man is still looking for me?

I missed a few birthdays this weekend...so here is a combined happy birthday wish to DR Sam and DR Charles Pogue's DW.

We finally finished casting only to find out that one of our men (the one who's been cast for weeks) may have to drop out - he's on availability for a film that shoots in Vancouver the week we rehearse and do the show. I'm so tired of this - it NEVER EVER happens with the women - only the men. I'm ready to stop using the men in these shows - because they are ALWAYS a problem in terms of finding, committing, and then doing, save for Damon Kirsche and Robert Yacko. But Damon's away until September and Yacko is back with us for June but who knows after that. But other than that, it's just too hard every single month. You'd think it wouldn't be like that with all the talent in LA, and it's never like that with the gals. It is so irritating. And then I see these putzes who repeatedly can't do our show (we've asked a couple of guys about twelve times each - never available) do these freebie other shows. Needless to say, those people will never be working for me in any capacity ever.
-
It seems odd there is a difference between the men and women.

It's hot here. It wasn't this hot just a couple of days ago.

Maybe Louisville will be cooler.

Four!

Well, I must be off. Theater Artists Olympia is supposed to have our monthly board meeting tonight, but not enough people can be there, so we're just going to have a "Reservoir Dogs" post-mortem. I still haven't gotten the last check(s) from the website that sold our on-line tickets...our board president gets those. Hopefully, he'll have them tonight. That'll increase our bottom line. :)
Until later!

'night

Watching "Babes in Arms," the last of the Mickey and Judy movies I have. And I'm glad. The scripts are truly bad and a little Mickey goes a long, long way.

http://ghostbrothersofdarklandcounty.com/ (http://ghostbrothersofdarklandcounty.com/)
Tomorrow I can buy my ticket for the concert tour of Ghost Brothers of Darkland Country. I think it's really cool that it's coming to Sioux City. It won't be here until November but I'll get the ticket now, anyway. I'm not thrilled with our Broadway season at the Orpheum, but this is cool. I decided to get a Symphony season ticket and a Broadway series ticket. I'm not planning to travel much, if at all, so these are shows I should be able to get to!
-
Um, page four? Um, four pages? This will NOT do and I wonder why I'm updating anything with this board if we can't get four pages in by 8:00 my time.

Just read that it was going on tour today. I'd like to see it. Sounds like fun.

Tomorrow I'm getting up at dawn's crack to drive a straight shot to Cincinnati, around ten hours driving time, and for the next few days I'll be checking in mostly in the evenings. Whee. What fun. At least the return trip will be split into two days (Sat./Sun.). Boy, do I know how to live, or what? But this will be good, as I'll get to see a few of the more interesting members of the family.

Taking THE BRAIN and UNE CHAMBRE EN VILLE to listen to in the car. A few other shows, too.

Unfortunately, I can't do that on this trip, it's way too tight. I'll make it over there again later in the summer and will hope to plan meet-ups with both DR Ginny and DR JRand62.

One thing on the agenda is a satisfying repast at Skyline Chili.

I need to pack.
-
One thing on the agenda is a satisfying repast at Skyline Chili.
That and White Castle are on my agenda.
-
Someone best show up and have a frenzy.
-
White Castle, yes, if I can work it in. But I can get that here in the NY/NJ region.
-
They are especially good in the Midwest, though, no question about it.
-
I'm having myself a li'l frenzy just thinking about Skyline and White Castle.
And Waffle House.
And Perkins. And IHOP.
NO. Must. Control. Self.
-
I have often wondered how the frozen White Castle burgers taste. I liked the real thing in Jersey.
-
I don't think I know Perkins.
-
Originally Perkins Pancake House, now just Perkins, and sadly, they've been closing a few of their locations.
-
The frozen White Castles can satisfy a late night craving, but you have to develop the perfect technique for both heating them and 'dressing' them. I haven't had them in a long time.
-

And (with a nod to DR Ginny) Graeter's.

Well, I must say good night, and try not to dream of pancakes, chili and hamburgers.
But before I do...

PAGE FIVE.

They lack the pickle. So, they lack the soul of the steamed beauties.

Listening to the Maria Friedman recording of "Lady in the Dark." Wish I liked it a little more since it's the most complete recording, but lacks the requisite sex appeal to sell "The Saga of Jenny."

I have often wondered how the frozen White Castle burgers taste. I liked the real thing in Jersey.

That's one thing I do to get them right. Or as right as possible. I add the pickle. And a small bit of both ketchup and mustard (practice varies on this across the land).

Now I need to go pack.

Good night, all.

Well, I have pickles.

Oh, found out the new book is on its way - it would probably have gotten here next Monday, but, naturally, it's a holiday, so I suspect Tuesday will be the day - then we'll get them shipped right out. I did get the little giveaway thing today - cute.

Congratulations, BK.

Just read that it was going on tour today. I'd like to see it. Sounds like fun.
I just read about this, also. It's not coming to the west coast. :(

Safe travel vibes for ChasSmith

Cool! Can't wait to read it. Right now, I'm reading "Fool Moon," book two of "The Dresden Files" by Jim Butcher. My sister loves them and another friend of mine kept recommending them when we worked on a show together last year.

I finally was able to get The Dresden Files Collection 1-6 (http://www.amazon.com/Dresden-Collection-Penguin-Classics-ebook/dp/B004GB1I3C/ref=sr_1_8?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1368600090&sr=1-8&keywords=dresden+files) from the library for my Kindle (the six-books-in-one are $54.99 to buy :o) and I really like them. I'll make sure that I finish the book I'm reading before "Murder at the School Musical" arrives. :D
