Well, you've read the notes, the notes were endless, and now it is time for you to post until the endless cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: EXSCIND!
-
Good morning!
-
Thanks to DRS vixmom and George for their condolences. Our aunt died at the end of December. She lived in Illinois near her daughter but many of her relatives live in Buffalo so her children decided to have a memorial service there. i had already made plans to go to Buffalo for Memorial Day weekend when I found out about the service for her to be held yesterday.
I'm glad that I went to see her about a year and a half ago.
-
Good morning, all.
And that's just about what I have time for before hitting the road. Full day of visiting and driving ahead of me.
VIBES to all. Later!
-
Good morning, all! I slept late because I slept poorly, with lots of bizarre dreams: in one, BK and I drove to visit DR JRand62, in another, Ted Chapin and one of his daughters were giving me a ride in territory looking suspiciously like the Route 4 approach to Hamilton, Ohio, while his daughter, who was a little girl in the dream, was telling me about her latest toys. All I remember of JRand62 was that he had a scrawny apple tree bearing one apple in his front yard.
Last night I finished season 4 of CASTLE and got as far as 1949 in the Britten biography. Myday is pretty much open and I have no plans. It's raining and I have no need to go to Toyland today. I'll wait till tomorrow.

Sunday!
My book arrived yesterday, and my review is UP!!! On Amazon!!! For the world to see!!!!
Thanks to MR BK for the inscription and the little extras that were very clever and USEFUL!
-
Is it really Sunday again already? So soon?
-
DR VIXMOM I am glad you are still enjoying the PIPPIN CD - and I hope you are singing along! I have been listening to it a lot lately as well. I look forward to DR BEN's opinion!
Since I saw the Letterman clip, I am less apprehensive about the "circus" theme and see how it could absolutely work. I had not really paid much attention to the show, although I liked it, until I did the choreography for a production, and then I really did fall in love with the show!
Here's my Pippin, Charlemagne, and Fastrada as they appeared in the local paper.

-
Yes DR KERRY - it is AGAIN Sunday!
-
DR DRUXY that is a great story in the paper. I hope you enjoy your time here in Indiana....and I am most sorry I won't be able to get up to Fort Wayne to see you!
-
Good morning. I was so wiped out from my long day yesterday that I was asleep around 8 p.m.
The first thing my DH and I do each morning is remind ourselves of the day and date and "Barack Obama is president of the United States." You know, just in case we find someone trying to do a mental assessment of us.
-
The last sentence is in reference to yesterday's posts.

Guess I'd better catch up!
-
Morning all.
That is all.

I loved Pippin. I had/have no problem at all with the circus overlay. It works without a hitch and adds some amazing bits and pictures to the show. It will easily win Best Musical revival, especially considering that the competition is Annie and Cinderella.
Drood is up also but Drood has closed which means many people will have forgotten about it. I LOVED Drood and it should still be running but that being said, Pippin will win without question. I think part of the problem with Drood closing after the limited subscription run at Roundabout run is, I have to say, the theatregoing public. It's like politics, we elect these brain dead politicians to run the country and then complain when they screw everything up. Well, we complain about Broadway and the shows we are getting but then the public rushes to crap like Motown, The Musical (yes, it's a boomer's dream musical with great songs but it's NOT A F*****G Broadway musical, it's a revue with an embarrassing book and some good performances) a critic-proof show that will probably run for years.
I digress.
Pippin is overall excellent in every way. I left the theatre happy, excited and beaming. I did go in with slight reservations because I had heard the circus "theme" was controversial but it works beautifully. In my opinion, it's like it was part of the show from the beginning. If you love the original you may not like this but I only know the show from the CD and clips I've seen. I think this production works beautifully and I have no problem with "circus".
Pippin (Matthew James Thomas) is not the strongest cast member but he's still very, very good. He was in Spider Man for a spell.
Andrea Martin as Berthe is PHENOMENAL and will win the Tony for Best Featured Actress in a Musical in my humble opinion. She will beat out her cast mate Charlotte D'Amboise, who is also excellent.
CD has a Cassie kind of dance moment (she played Cassie in the Chorus Line revival) in the second act and it's wonderful.
Her husband, Terrance Mann is great as Charlemagne as is Patina Miller as the Leading Player.
The Leading Player doesn't need to be a man, PM is fine and just as funny, chilling, scary and mean as any male actor could be.
There are beautiful stage pictures and scenes of circus feats and wonderful choreography that completely integrates the songs and the dance.
Although it's different from what most people remember Pippin to be I would recommend the show highly.
-
Thanks DR BEN. It sounds so exciting!
-
And I couldn't agree more with your expressed opinions....
-
I had a dream in which I woke up and then held the window drapes to one side and saw that it was still dark, so I went back to sleep (it was definitely a dream: I didn't wake up). If anyone has had a more pointless or boring dream I'd like to know it ;D
-
DR DOUG R the Dream-O-Matic 6000 says that your dream is NOT boring or pointless....indeed it says that you need more information before you can move ahead on an important matter - and you are not sure where to look for that information.

DR BEN - I guess I was worried about the Circus in PIPPIN only because of the director's reputation for stunts and useless "updates" - but it seems this time she did something right.....this time.

Yes, JR. I was initially worried because of the brouhaha over Porgy and Bess, excuse me, the Gershwins' Porgy and Bess. She seemed/seems a bit arrogant and full of herself, and, in all honesty, I did not care that much for Hair, either. Though it wasn't direction of the show so much as I just don't think Hair is a great or even very good musical. I think the film by Miloš Forman is far superior to the stage show in every way.

Roast pork is cooking along with roast potatoes and cauliflower cheese.
-
DR TCB - the Cheese Whiz goes on top of the celery.....you are clearly unsophisticated in the ways of fine dining.
-
And I am off - to auditions. Pray for Rosemary's Baby.
-
I'm up, I'm up - late, but boy did I get the sleep I needed, about nine and a half hours of it.

Here's the link to Jrand's review, which is really fun to read: http://www.amazon.com/Murder-School-Musical-Bruce-Kimmel/dp/1481748939/ref=tmm_hrd_title_0?ie=UTF8&qid=1368986040&sr=1-1
And someone obviously just bought a hardcover because out of five million books, we are around 72,000 in the sales rank.
-
Page one? One page? This will NOT do, unless everyone is actually off reading a certain book, but even then we need reportage.
-
Okay, this is VERY annoying. We can't even get off page one?
-
Hello, everyone.
Nice reviews for The New Book.
-

Kevin, I'm glad you were able to see your aunt, too. It's so easy for time to slip away, and then it's too late.

Very funny. Useful, too. ;D
-
I appreciate the reviews that DR Ben and others do here, as we're getting their honest take, unfettered by commercial or political influences. So, thank you, Ben. And Larry. And Fred. And any others.
-
I've always felt that DR Elmore has the most colorful dreams of anyone I've ever known. It seems that DR Doug feels that his are at the other end of the spectrum. I seldom recall my dreams, which is duller still.

One of the nice things about paying bills electronically is that you don't need to remember what year it is.

Sunday afternoon greetings! We had a very foggy trip to Lima early this morning, but it was clear sailing for the trip home. I've had a nice nap in my recliner and now I'm ready for the evening.

Beautiful butterflies DR Laura.

I used to recall every darn dream, and they were usually as colorful as DR elmore's. I got very sick a number of years ago, partially I believe due to waking up exhausted from my dreams, and suddenly stopped remembering. I found that a blessing while at the same time it felt as if I was missing something, kind of how I feel when a terrible attack of hiccups finally stops.
Lately I have been remember them more often when I first wake up. With a little effort I quickly forget them.

I was wearing a sweatshirt yesterday.

JRAND - today at church the Churhc president asked if the Vixter would be interested in singing Magic to Do at the annual women's dinner - she wondered if we were familar with the song
She was most pleased to hear that not only was she familiar with it but we were in possession of a karaoke version for singing along with
thank you again , Sir!!
-
Now I know BK does not want to hear this but I must get back to changing over the closets as my bedroom is now strewn with clother from one end to the other

MR BK it is a most fun book.
Amazon sent me an email that said my review prompted someone to buy the book....I don't think I have ever received an email like that!
-
Five parts in the play - five people at auditions....interesting. I will have to see some good people tomorrow to be better than what I saw today!
-
DR VIXMOM beat me with her Amazon review....she was there first. I am a Johnny Come Lately.
-
while closet cleaning I have been watching the previously unopened 4 dvd set I picked up at the Goodwill for $2 a while ago - Broadway's Lost Treasures - scenes from various Tony Shows over the years

We are enjoying a beautiful day. I'm going back outside to visit with Keith while he plants petunias.
-
Back from a patty melt and no fries or onion rings. I must now write. I did do a three-mile jog earlier. I haven't missed a day of jogging in at least ten weeks - the next time I'll miss is the mid-June trip to DC - but the hotel will definitely have the treadmills so I won't actually miss anything.
-
Shouldn't people be reading a book right about now?
-
Shouldn't we be off this damn page right about now?
-
;D
-
What a super lazy day, just do not want to do anything.
Took a walk at 10am, now it is just plane hot outside, and lazy inside.
:)
-
Lonesome Traveler was really good yesterday.
;D
-
Must make some attempt to at least put some clothes away from last weeks laundry.
Did i mention a super lazy day. :)
-
Time for coffee. Maybe a triple expresso.
-
And on that note, i've got nothing.
;D
-
Mega Sunday vibes.
;D
-
DR VIXMOM at $2 that was quite a bargain! I love Goodwill....

JRand1962, did you tell us the title of the play you are directing and my short term memory has forgotten it? Given my preoccupation these days, it's entirely possible.
-
I watched a couple of really, really bad Netflix DVDs, thanks to my obsession with various performers, and I am feeling very slothful today. I need to have some dinner, and finish the Britten bio.
-
I appreciate the reviews that DR Ben and others do here, as we're getting their honest take, unfettered by commercial or political influences. So, thank you, Ben. And Larry. And Fred. And any others.
I have to say though my enjoyment of a play can be affected by how I feel about a subject politically. There, I admit it. :)

Interesting, the bar mitzvah I'm going to in a few weeks in the Bronx is at exactly the same place as my cousin's bar mitzvah in April.

DR ELMORE - I am directing Patrick Hamilton's ANGEL STREET aka GASLIGHT..... It runs for two weekends in mid July. And by the time it opens, I hope to be cast in THE DROWSY CHAPERONE opening in August. We shall see.

I am watching THE BOLD ONES on Cozi Tv.....

Just reading the Sunday Washington Post.

Yes! I do remember nw, DR JRand62! Around 1971 or so, I saw a gorgeous production of ANGEL STREET, directed by Tony Perkins, at Cincinnati's Playhouse In The Park. The curtain where the Inspector leaves his hat and only just returns for it at the last minute had the entire audience on the verge of a collective breakdown. It's such a good melodrama.
-
I loaned my Season 2 DVD of Downton Abbey to my friend at work. She claims she knows nothing of what happened in Season 3. She's in for a surprise!
-
You'd have a great time in DROWSY CHAPERONE, DR JRand62, and I think the audiences would love you.
-
Speaking of Downton Abbey, The Simpsons is doing a spoof of it right now!
-
Okay. Before I go to bed . . .
-
how many posts wiil it take . . .

to get us to . . .

PAge 4?

Well it wasn't that last one!

Damn!

Double damn!

I am hoping . . .
-
elmore goes to bed at NINE? He truly is AGED.
-
!!!! Page 4 !!!!
I'm off to bed!
-
Get me off this damn page. Hopefully I'll see some book reports - since that's the only reason that people should not be getting me off this damn page.

Jane - the temple services and Torah reading

As much as I love discussing books I hate to review them, so I never ever do. I feel bad about this.
I don't like giving them stars at Goodreads either, mostly because I can't do half stars. Most books I give 3 out of 5 stars because I don't want to give the book 4 stars so I drop down to the lower number even if I think it deserves 3 1/2-3 3/4 stars. To me that is a big difference from a straight 3 star book. I'm not bothered as much by the differences between 2 & 1 stars or 3 & 4 if I can't do half stars.
Does anyone else have trouble rating books or movies or am I unique?

Jane - the temple services and Torah reading
Thanks. I was just curious.

Good evening, all.
--Which I am posting from HOME, THANK GAWD. What a day. Drove through FOG in every mountainous part of Maryland and Pennsylvania I had to pass through. Unbelievable.

Something just hit me
-
George - did you say that your aunt, the nun, spent more than 11 hours in a casino?
-
reminds me of the scene in Sister Act

When Whoopie is followed into the bar by two of the sisters

and one of the bikers complains that the place is turning into a Nun Bar

I am glad that you arrived home safely Chas!

Happy moving vibes to Matthew
-
Has anybody heard anything else about the twisters in Iowa? I hope Cilla is OK
-
I am also very happy to report that a book was waiting for me! It looks great, and I will probably get to read it tomorrow. In fact, I can't think of a better way to have a restful day after my crazy little trip. Thanks to BK for the book, the goodies, and the perfect inscription!
BTW, I shan't read anyone's review till I've read the book because I don't want anything to color my own reactions. I also like to mention things that mean something special to me in my own review, so those thoughts must remain pure (pure boys!) till that's completed, too.

You can still rate a book 3 1/2 stars on goodreads. Just include it in the text. Many many people do this (including myself). I need half stars, so I use them a lot.
-
Chas have you read the previous books in the series yet?

I think we rate books differently. To me 3 stars is okay. 4 stars is I like it. 4.5 I like it a lot. And 5 stars is rare it means I absolutely love it/perfection. I think I have given 5 stars to maybe 5 books this year so far (out of 46 or so). I don't give 5 stars easily.

Where the heck is everyone?
-
It seems very humid here tonight.
-
Yeah, where the heck is everyone. I am being driven insane by stupid June bugs - don't these twits know it's MAY!
-
They talked about thunderstorms earlier, but I thought that was supposed to be tomorrow.
-
Have we heard from Cilla this evening?
-
The news is on in five minutes. Maybe they will have information on Iowa tornados.
-
Sometimes I wonder why I watch FAMILY GUY.
-
It used to be a little funny, but now it is just rude.
-
I think Bruce should write the musical version of POCKETFUL OF MIRACLES.
-
I wish I had a copy of BK's new book.
-
I suppose I could read a magazine or a catalog.
-
Chicago (the city not the musical) may see tornados tomorrow and Tuesday.

Chicago (the city not the musical) may see tornados tomorrow and Tuesday.
That is in addition to the states that were affected today.
-
I wonder where George is tonight?
-
Singer / songwriter Alan O'Day has died. He wrote Angie Baby for Helen Reddy and Rock 'N Roll Heaven for The Righteous Brothers.
-
There are certainly a lot of fictional death notices on the Internet. Tonight I found Madonna died in a car crash and Richard Chamberlain died. Neither of these stories is true.
-
We are
-
getting closer
-
to turning the page.

-
Well, my work here is done.
G'night!
-
I haven't stopped all day, but I finished one set of liner notes and got them on their merry way, and wrote two-thirds of the second set, so the hard part is done.
-
This is the dangerous time of evening when I just want to eat everything that's edible.

Today, I went to my parents' house for a while to visit with my two visiting aunts. We played Phase 10 but I had to leave before the end of the game because I had to go to rehearsal for "Cinder Edna." The husband of one of the founding members of Olympia Family Theater wrote it, with input form several other people. He even had a Kickstarter program to get the project going.
-
Tonight's rehearsal was a tech rehearsal...they mainly worked on scene changes and costume changes, and lighting cues were being programmed, too. I was there to work with the mics, but a couple were having troubles and the guy who set them up couldn't figure it out while it was happening, so I just watched. He will be back tomorrow, and hopefully will be able to get them all working properly.
-
which reminds me - when are the Tonys?
Ah! June 9th
thank yoiu Google
Sadly, that's the day of the final performance and strike for "Cinder Edna." We were told that strike shouldn't take longer than a couple of hours, and since the Tonys are tape-delayed for the west coast, I should be home in time for that, at least.
-
I just watched tonight's episode of "Mad Men."
I don't get it anymore. :-\
