Title: A TRIPLE LUTZ WITHOUT SKATES
Post by: bk on June 04, 2013, 12:06:50 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes were skating on thin ice, lutz-wise, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently doing a triple lutz in the middle of the pasture.

Wouldn't it be fun to have some posts on the other boards we have - like in the Outside the Box board - where you can post your favorite episodes or casts.  Or the book boards - I should think that would be fun.

TOD: I guess the most annoying for me personally are those little gnats (Bernstein wrote about them in his monumental Mass) - the ones that swarm about your eyes, ears, and nose as your're simply trying to walk your dog in the morning. And they're persistent - it seems like they follow you for blocks.  Ugh!

Hello from London!   I saw Ms. Streisand again last night.  I don't think the show was as good as Saturday's because sister Roz kind of messed up their duet of "Smile."    I thought it was amusing when Barbra introduced her she said "she's been bugging me for years" to sing on stage with her.

TOD:

Roaches are probably my least favorite, with mosquitoes a close second, largely because they love my diabetic blood. On Saturday night, though, at my friend's party, flies took over the top spot. They descended on the food like a biblical plague. I had never seen so many flies in Texas before, and though all the food was covered up, they lingered. And irritated.

I surreptitiously did just that on our first day here -- made a li'l surreptitious post that I'll bet NO ONE has discovered, not even BK himself.  :o

Yes, good catch there, DR TCB.  What is DTM up to?

And who else are we missing of late?  I've been here just over a year now, and already I can name a few who only show up once in a blue or perhaps multicolored moon.

Dakota Celt?

JoseSPiano, of course.

Oh, I pulled a great one last night.  I accidentally deleted the pictures on my cell phone.  Fortunately (I HOPE it's fortunate), they were on the Micro SD card, so I can at least attempt a file recovery.

If DRs Ben or George or anyone else savvy about these things has any advice on this, it will be much appreciated.

I blame the current Android "gallery" app for not stopping and making me take notice of exactly what I was about to do.  I wanted to delete the latest picture, which was the only thing displayed.  But it wasn't REALLY displayed, it just happens to be the one "on top" of the pack, and it was the whole album I was moving to the trash can.  Well, shame on me for not being more careful, anyway.

I don't use the cell camera very often and most of the shots can be lived without.  Fortunately, some, such as the pictures of BK and Sandy and KevinH in DC, were already copied.  But there are undoubtedly a few more that I'd also want to keep.

Slept pretty decently, and had a monster of a dream about a huge house that was based on a place that I used to live in, where I was returning to stay just a few nights on my way to who knows where.  The interesting thing about it was my incredible creation of what the jernt looked like -- a huge rambling eclectic kind of place, a veritable mansion of the imagination.

This is actually another of my common dream themes:  rediscovering the wonderful maze of rooms, etc., that I either somehow didn't know about before, or had forgotten about, that I could now appreciate like never before.  And damn, this was a fine one.  Now that I think upon it, it was based on a combination of places, all greatly embellished.

WHOA -- STOP THE PRESSES.  I JUST GOT THE TIME-OUT THING AGAIN.
I have a Print-Screen image but have no idea how to save it and post it here, so here's a simulation of it.  It appears right above the editing area when you first click on POST after typing a new reply.  Clicking again posts the message fine.

The following error or errors occurred while posting this message:
Your session timed out while posting. Please try to re-submit your message.

(Those two lines appear against a light red shaded background.)

EDIT:  It happened again when I was posting this one, because it took me a couple of minutes to edit.  That's two messages in a row.  But HELL, I know I've taken an extremely long time to write some really long posts in the past.  These were only a couple of minutes in the making.  Definitely a new thing going on, in my experience.

Good morning, all! I am off to Toyland this morning. There's something strange in the aether: last night my computer posted a "shut down Network" announcement, something I'd never seen before, I was locked out of the ROBERTA repository, and things seem at sixes and sevens this morning. Perhaps DR Ginny's Kroger karma is moving east?

I nay be stepping out tonight to see goddaughter Charlotte in some class presentation on 72nd Street.

Bugs? Spiders, roaches, bed bugs, ticks, mosquitos . . .

Chas, I don't think I can be much help here. I'm not very cell phone savvy. I have a very low-end pay as you go cell phone which is only used when we are traveling or if I'm out of the house without my husband.

I do know that there are programs available that can recover deleted files if nothing has been "written over" the space on the card.

Here are some recommendations for programs.

File Recovery Software (http://pcsupport.about.com/od/filerecovery/tp/free-file-recovery-programs.htm)

I can't vouch for any of them because I've never used them. I think, Chas, in your case, if you end up doing this, you would download the program to your PC, install it, then put the micro SD card into the card reader slot on your PC and have the software read the contents of the card and attempt to recover any data. As you may know, deleting a file from an SD card or from a PC doesn't fully delete the file. It remains there until the space is overwritten by new information. That can happen almost immediately if you continue using your PC after the file deletion or it may take a while. If you take the micro SD card out of your camera you won't overwrite any remaining deleted information and the chances for file recovery are better.

I had a fantastic time in Fort Wayne.

I saw two performances of my play (LOMBARD), presented a "workshop" on writing for film, and did some Q&A sessions.

The people there treated me very well.

(I'm not sure how to post photos on this page, but I have some up on FB on both my personal and The Hollywood Legends pages.)

DR Ben, that's pretty much what I was envisioning -- moving the card to the PC and using typical file recovery methods.  In the meantime, I've removed the card from the phone so it can't be overwritten.  Thank you!

I get the timed out issue as well but I didn't post about it because even though it says you are timed out if you click try again, or post, or whatever it says, the post will go through. Timed out seems to happen when you take your time with a post, as Larry said, going away from the computer to look something up (there is no activity and the software thinks things have stopped) and then returning and finishing the post. SMF gets confused when you start again because you were "inactive" and now you're "active" Since the post isn't lost and the option to post again is always there and it's always gone through for me when I click I don't say anything when I get timed out.

I have never received one of these time-out things - but I'm an admin so maybe I wouldn't.  But we're really gone through everything and can't find anything that would be causing it.

The picture files are recovered -- all 105 of them saved to my hard drive, and I've started anew on the Micro SD disc with a test shot on the phone camera.  All is well.  We should all sleep well tonight.  Thank you, thank you.

Wonderful!!!!

When a new post is made to any of the boards, the little icon to the left will have a dark color rather than its usual light look when there are no new posts.  ChasSmith made a new post in the Kritzer book thread a few days ago - I knew it was there because the icon to the left was dark.  That's how you know if there are new posts anywhere.  Also, it's really best to put any tech problems in the thread we've created on the board Technical Support - that's where the tech goes to read stuff.

I think we've pretty well established that the time-out thing is harmless, so no need to panic when it happens, or spend any more time on it.

It doesn't delete the post, is the main thing!   :)   All is well on haineshisway.com.

On a bit of good news, the Piano-vocal fixes to the ROBERTA score look great, and my colleague Peter is halfway through the Act One orchestra fixes. I'm still waiting on a return call from Rob Berman and an email from Peter.

It may be the play that people may not be sure about.  If you were having trouble finding a taker to the musical about Imelda, then you'd have to worry.

For those wondering why the picture icons are so small, why is DR Ben's picture much bigger?

Ben's avatar was from before the last upgrade.  Back then, the avatars could be 110x150 pixels and now (as well as on the previous version), they're limited to 65x65 pixels.  Avatars that were uploaded before, still exists and those can be used.  It would be nice if that could be changed on this new board.

I walked to the bank, then I did something wise.  I went in the book room and laid down on the couch.  I think I was out for about ninety minutes.  While I don't feel perfect yet, I do feel less nauseous, maybe less enough to actually try eating something, although what that something is I know not.  I think this way my body's way of saying I have not been sleeping enough and to take a true day off and that meant from the jog, too.  This is the first day in three months I won't have jogged and that's probably a good thing.

Back from a staff farewell luncheon at a fondue place called The Melting Pot. It was four courses: 3 kinds of cheese fondue (I just ate a few chunks of bread and the raw veggies), then a delicious salad, then chicken/beef/shrimp (I again opted for the veggies in a vegetable broth) with 6 kinds of dipping sauces, followed by fruit and sweets in 3 kinds of chocolate (one of which contained Bailey's). It was spread out over 3 hours, so I'm not "Thanksgiving" full. But still quite full. If you know what I mean. And I'm sure you do.    :P

DR Ron Pulliam - the morsels of food are cooked in the broth. Then transferred to your plate. Whereupon the dipping sauces are applied. With great discrimination, if one is trying to avoid dairy.   :P

Picked up a package and realized I am not better and certainly not ready for food and probably not ready to go to the Avalon at six-thirty.

Maybe something I had from Gelson's last night was bad - although I can't imagine why it would take twelve hours to be a problem.

I think if it was food poisoning you would know already. but sometimes something you eat can just not agree with your body. Or it could be unrelated.

I'm taking a li'l break at the halfway point of THE WORLD OF JACQUES DEMY.  It's very enjoyable and quite educational for the likes of moi, but you have to be at the top of your subtitle-reading game to keep up with it.  And oh man, now I'm really wanting to see these other films.

DR Jennifer there was a preview for The Enders Game.  Did you read it?

No.

Thanks

There are a bunch of movies being made from books that I am very excited about. Divergent. Mortal Instruments. Vampire Academy. Catching Fire.

I think I do have my appendix, but it's not that.  I get these queasy things a couple of times a year and in the end I always think it's something I ate.  I'm still queasy - not as bad, but still there.  I probably should try to eat something - maybe poached eggs and some white rice (the latter was recommended to me last time this happened over a year ago and boy did it work).

This is a really interesting link:

http://www.furia.com/misc/genremaps/engenremap.html (http://www.furia.com/misc/genremaps/engenremap.html)

It's called "Every Noise At Once," and it is basically a sound map of all genres of music.

Hovering over a genre name and clicking on it gives you a pre-selected sound sample of music of that genre.
Clicking on the little arrow for that genre takes you to a new sound map, delving into further sub-categories or composers/artists in that genre.

This is pretty cool...but where are the "Broadway" or "theater" samples??

Found it..."show tunes," near the bottom.  The sample is "I Get a Kick Out of You" by Sutton Foster.

And if you click on the little arrow next to that, you get a whole page of Broadway composers and performers.

John, have you ever tried these things?

They're wonderful. They had them in Africa everywhere and they work great. Trouble is, my friend Bonnie didn't have a single one. No one had ever seen flies like that before in town. Maybe she should invest in some.  That way she'll never see a fly again.

I have a Print-Screen image but have no idea how to save it and post it here, so here's a simulation of it.  It appears right above the editing area when you first click on POST after typing a new reply.  Clicking again posts the message fine.

The following error or errors occurred while posting this message:

(Those two lines appear against a light red shaded background.)

EDIT:  It happened again when I was posting this one, because it took me a couple of minutes to edit.  That's two messages in a row.  But HELL, I know I've taken an extremely long time to write some really long posts in the past.  These were only a couple of minutes in the making.  Definitely a new thing going on, in my experience.

Just hit the post button again and it should go through the second time.

Jogging  in the high temperatures you have been having there may be a problem, Bruce-

Maybe Heatstroke?

Heat stroke often occurs as a progression from milder heat-related illnesses such as heat cramps, heat syncope (fainting), and heat exhaustion. But it can strike even if you have no previous signs of heat injury.

Heat stroke results from prolonged exposure to high temperatures -- usually in combination with dehydration -- which leads to failure of the body's temperature control system. The medical definition of heat stroke is a core body temperature greater than 105 degrees Fahrenheit, with complications involving the central nervous system that occur after exposure to high temperatures. Other common symptoms include nausea, seizures, confusion, disorientation, and sometimes loss of consciousness or coma.
Symptoms of Heat Stroke

The hallmark symptom of heat stroke is a core body temperature above 105 degrees Fahrenheit. But fainting may be the first sign.

Other symptoms may include:

    Throbbing headache
    Dizziness and light-headedness
Lack of sweating despite the heat
    Red, hot, and dry skin
    Muscle weakness or cramps
    Nausea and vomiting
Rapid heartbeat, which may be either strong or weak
    Rapid, shallow breathing
Behavioral changes such as confusion, disorientation, or staggering
    Seizures
    Unconsciousness

First Aid for Heat Stroke

If you suspect that someone has a heat stroke, immediately call 911 or transport the person to a hospital. Any delay seeking medical help can be fatal.

While waiting for the paramedics to arrive, initiate first aid. Move the person to an air-conditioned environment -- or at least a cool, shady area -- and remove any unnecessary clothing.

If possible, take the person's core body temperature and initiate first aid to cool it to 101 to 102 degrees Fahrenheit. If no thermometers are available, don't hesitate to initiate first aid.

You may also try these cooling strategies:

Fan air over the patient while wetting his or her skin with water from a sponge or garden hose.
Apply ice packs to the patient's armpits, groin, neck, and back. Because these areas are rich with blood vessels close to the skin, cooling them may reduce body temperature.
Immerse the patient in a shower or tub of cool water, or an ice bath.

If emergency response is delayed, call the hospital emergency room for additional instructions.

After you've recovered from heat stroke, you'll probably be more sensitive to high temperatures during the following week. So it's best to avoid hot weather and heavy exercise until your doctor tells you that it's safe to resume your normal activities.

Needless to say, she bought lunch.

After four years of off-and-on work on Mom's cookbook, I actually think I'm seeing an end to this. One recipe to add and a few minor details to go. Maybe within a couple of weeks.

Very cool!

Fun.  I did my mom's recipe box into a book for the family a number of years ago.  FJL came up with the name..To Stir with Love

I'm slowly starting to exercise again.   I can't believe how out of shape I am.   My neighborhood is very hilly, steep hills,  Three days ago I went around the block and up the huge hill. I was wheezing and had to stop for a second.   Two days ago, I walked slower, but went around without wheezing.  Yesterday I was really out of breath, but not terribly so, and today I was out of breath but caught it very quickly.   I always hate the beginning of trying to get back into shape

I also rejoined Weight watchers online tonight. I need to start tracking what I'm eating again.  I really want to lose some weight and get back in shape.  I'm tired of being tired

I love walking around my neighborhood.  I haven't really ever done it every night.  I find myself having some great conversations with different neighbors, the people you say "hi" to but don't really talk to very often.  I realized a couple days ago that this neighborhood really reminds me of the neighborhood I grew up in - hills and all.  It's a nice quiet neighborhood - well other than the attack down the street (one of my neighbors said I shouldn't call it a neighborhood murder because no one died until they got to the hospital).

But even that happened in my neighborhood at home.  Here it was an angry ex-boyfriend attacking parents there it was a husband who killed a wife.

Thank you, I feel lucky.  I've moved a lot of times since I left home.  I feel like I finally found my own home and don't intend to move again.

Took a long hot shower.  I think standing is bad right now.  I just need to get in bed soon.  I have two saltines sitting next to me but I cannot bear the thought of even taking a bite out of one of them.

I'm watching "America's Got Talent."  There have been some people with very good talent, and, of course, they have to show people that aren't very talented.  ::)

Notes are written and we'll see if I did the scheduling thing correctly.  I hope so, as it will make things very easy when I'm out of town. They're scheduled to post at one minute after midnight.  Apparently, the switch happens as soon as the first person comes to haineshisway.com - that's interesting but I'll stay up tonight to make sure it works.
