quick Miracle Worker story.

I was living in Montreal and channel hoping and came across The Miracle Worker. The scene was Annie trying to get Helen to use an eating utensil. No dialogue. It was mesmerizing. I was so involved that when the coda to the scene arrived I didn't realize I was watching a French dubbed version. That how much I was drawn into the story.

TOD

I believe that Maggie Smith in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie has to be one of the best performance ever committed to film.

Others:

Vivien Leigh and Marlon Brando in A Streetcar Named Desire
Gloria Swanson in Sunset Blvd
Jean Hagen in Singing in the Rain
George C Scott in Patton

Greetings from Toyland! I am soaking wet because the humidity must be close to 99; no rain yet, but it's quite horrible.

So, i have my breakfast, more of the Moross score, my lunch, and a wait for the paper delivery. I also haver my current mystery Death at the Beggar's Opera and an essay I downloaded on the disastrous production of DUDE, a fool's carnival.

Went to an early afternoon screening of MAN OF STEEL in 3D. I was the only one there and during the trailers the screen went blank and the house lights came on. A member of staff walked up to me and apologised, saying there was an electical problem and the film would begin for me as soon as possible. I felt as if I was getting a private screening in a preview theatre! There was a ten minute delay and then the film started. Afterwards I was given a free ticket for the inconvenience, to be used any other time.

I really enjoyed the film. Well cast with some amazing fight scenes. On the minus side, I thought the 3D was far too limited and there was too much distracting shaky camera work.

The shakey camera work...now I am remembering why it was so difficult for me to figure out what was happening to whom during WORLD WAR Z. When characters are being killed by zombies, it always helps  (me) to know, so that I am aware of what became of them. Even if they are minor characters. With all of the shaking going on, I couldn't keep track of things very well.

I was wondering why elmore would have moved onto a another book without mentioning he'd finished the Hofstetter book, but he quietly did so and published a review at amazon without telling anyone:

"Adrianna Hofstetter is back! This is cause for much rejoicing because she's reporting on the school production of THE MUSIC MAN, one of my favorite musicals. We get a lot of news about the rehearsal progress, the cast members' approach to their roles, and everyone's concern for the mysterious disappearance of a cast member.

Our plucky heroine, who has yet to encounter the mystery that she cannot solve, is on the case, aided by her best friend Billy, who has a major role in the production, her reticent mother Margaret - oh, yes, she is reticent - and Detectives Ramirez and Coyne, who are usually one step behind her. One of my favorite characters, retired film producer Patrick Bornstein, makes a very welcome return appearance to kick up some humor, teach Adrianna the joys of Jewish cuisine, and stir up things.

I'm still not fond of Adrianna's cat Furball, who irritates me with his perky cuteness, but that's a minor quibble. I would love to see her acquiring more friends: Billy Feldman is great, but this gay boy is soon going to start thinking about other boys, if he hasn't already, and Adrianna at some point has to find among the rude and trendy students who make her life hell someone besides Billy who finds her worth knowing and admires her independent spirit and good ethics. She's a good role model for a young reader.

Like the other books in the series, this one has some good moments of suspense and a great deal of humor and heart. At times the book seems intended less for a real teenage reader and more the teen lurking in the adult, especially those who once dreamed of being Nancy Drew or a Hardy Boy. I once did and I look forward to the next volume, Mr. Kimmel!"

The server was down but these people unlike our last hosts, respond amazingly fast and get it taken care of and call people - it affected a few sites of which we were one.  They're trying to figure out why it happened and they'll let me know when they do.  All I care about is that things are fixed quickly and that there's communication and in that regard I couldn't be happier.

Very loooong day, including a nice dinner tribute to my friend, Dolores, who died earlier this year. Just a group of about eight of us who worked with her to make Braille books. Don't know exactly what the judge is going to do, so I'm a bit worried about it.   I also have to proof and edit the brief I wrote then organize the exhibits and get that all filed.  Then, about 5:00 or so, I should be off work until Monday

So, i have my breakfast, more of the Moross score, my lunch, and a wait for the paper delivery. I also haver my current mystery Death at the Beggar's Opera and an essay I downloaded on the disastrous production of DUDE, a fool's carnival.

Speaking of lunches, I loved that idea yesterday for the salad in the jar.  Did that come from flap jack?

We had to replace the sick cast member - our very own Robert Yacko has been such a sport about stepping in at the last minute - he'll do two of the three songs and Shelly Markham will do the other, so we're covered and we don't have to cut anything.  It's performers like Robert who make me happy to be doing what I'm doing.
