Well, you've read the notes, the notes were low speed, and now it is time for you to post until the low speed cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: PLOCE!
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
Happy Day to the Iowa contingent, Dear Cillaliz!
-
I'm a bit late with yesterday's notes. I was trying to think where I'd heard of Linkedin and this morning remembered that I'm a member! Never really understood the point of it though.
-
DR Cillaliz - wishing you a spectacular day! :)

-
Once again today, spectacular multimedia features in today's notes!
-
E&T DR Jason posted this on Facebook: an amazing YouTube video with rare clips of Angela Lansbury in Mame and Gypsy on Broadway:

Excuse me now - I've got to go.
I've. Got Me. A Dress. To Make. :)

Happy happy day to dear Cilla!!
-
Good morning, all! Today is another Toyland day. I have to finish up the Moross chart so I can invoice it. The reason? Taxes on that goddam property in Ohio are due in two weeks and, since the Man from Philadelphia is down to his last drachmas, I have to find the money somewhere. I blame all of this Ohio mess on the greedy Macbeths and continue in my conviction that it will be my estate that sells the property and I will never see a cent of it.
While today is Friday, it seems like any day but Friday. Yesterday seemed to be Friday to me.
-
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Happy Birthday Felicitations to Our DR Cillaliz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
DR JohnG, I am so proud of Joshie. He's good, he works very hard, and he deserves some recognition. I'm happy he's getting mentioned in the reviews.
-
Good morning, all.
Great clips this morning.
Don't feel like going back to work today. But I must. And I will.
-
Happy birthday, Cillaliz!

Good morning to all

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DR CILLA LIZ.
I am sure the kitties will have a surprise planned for you today!
-
I started going to an open mic / poetry meeting on Thursday nights.
I've loved every one. (only been to 3) and plan to go to all from now on.
Within walking distance for me.
:)
-
Opening night went very well, thank you all very much.
Very good audience that was with us from the moment we started. First act came in at 55 minutes, second act came in at 43 minutes.....I was on my home by 10:30!!
-
MEGA VIBES.
:)
-
Good morning, all.
Oy. (But it's a good oy.) Needed another hour of sleep, and I've got a busy day ahead of me. I wonder if I can sneak in a little doze.
Of course, I've already started on the coffee. But that doesn't necessarily prevent the doze from happening. We'll see.
-
No Peter Filichia yet.
-
A very Happy Birthday to DR Cillaliz!
-
How fortuitous that our own dear DR Cillaliz shares her natal day with Oscar Hammerstein II!

~ ~ ~ STRONGEST POSSIBLE PROMPT DELIVERY, SPEEDY ROUTER, AND HASSLE-FREE TECH VIBES ~ ~ ~ for bk!
-
Glad that ANGEL STREET had a positive opening night, DR Jrand62! Sounds like there was no opening night cast party.
-
Hammerstein! -- and only a few weeks after Rodgers! I must email every member of that revue and let them know! No, better yet, I should call them, each and every one. Because nothing has greater impact than a personal phone call when you -- you know, reach out and touch someone.
-
Thanks to BK for the POLTERGEIST reminiscences.
Here's where I was thrilled and spooked out of my mind upon first seeing it.

Greetings from Toyland!
-
Happy birthday, Cillaliz!
-
TOD:
Absolutely no idea.
-
Love the clips of MAME and GYPSY. Good lord, that is a precious look at the real Broadway.
-
Well, I must get busy on a few things because I need to be ready to drive over to Phoenixville, PA - home of THE BLOB - this afternoon to take in some BLOBFEST. The annual "run-out" is tonight, which always sells out but I grabbed tickets this time, and tomorrow will be spent enjoying the small-town street fair and other events at the WONDERFUL Colonial Theatre.
http://thecolonialtheatre.com/category/events/blobfest/
So, I shall be E&T through the day but will check in late this evening and first thing in the morning.
-
Wow! Reading all about the BLOBFEST, I am quite surprised that DR MBarnum is not the first one in line!
-
Safe travels and have fun, DR ChasSmith!
-
I was never scared by Poltergeist.
But then, I have never seen Poltergeist.
-
Have fun a blob of fun today, ChasSmith. Sounds like something I'd enjoy, too.
-
Friday morning greetings! Not sure where this week has gone, but I have a lot of AAUW work to do and some post-ALA follow-up.
-
Happiest of birthdays to DR Cillaliz!
One year from today we'll celebrate your birthday by eating wedding cake with DN/G Lauren and her ever lovin' Jimmy!
-
Happy Birthday to DR Cillaliz. Hope you have a great day!
-
Is anybody else here watching Big Brother After Dark at all? I mostly just fast forward through it when I get up. But last night's was extremely interesting for a change.
-
BLOB vibes for DR CHAS SMITH. We will need photographic evidence of same.
-
Technology vibes for MR BK.
-
No....cast gathering tomorrow night, but not last night or tonight.
-
Happy Birthday to DR Cillaliz!!

DVD: Nothing
CD: Nothing
Blu-ray: DRACULA (1958) - rental
I saw DRACULA decades ago on TV but frankly Ive never thought much of the Hammer horror films. I thought Id rent this to see if my opinion has changed but Im afraid it hasnt. I find it unimaginatively filmed, with static camera set ups; lacking style, atmosphere or suspense. Good examples of well made gothic horror films are the Edgar Allan Poe adaptations directed by Roger Corman, made about the same time as the Hammer horror films, which are vastly superior in every way. Ive also thought Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee vastly overrated in their acting ability would they have become stars if theyd never been taken up by Hammer? As for James Bernards, lets have a crescendo every three seconds score, the less said the better
.
-
Funny stuff at Filichia on Friday!
-
Did anybody watch this soon-to-be classic on SyFy last night? Almost makes me want to get TV again.

Guess LinkedIn isn't such a dinosaur after all.
Just got word that one of the contractors in the department I work in just landed a permanent position with JC Penney in Dallas because someone had found her resume on LinkedIn. (This was one of the twentysomethings who had told me LinkedIn was passe.)
It's great news for her, because her contract was due to expire at the end of the year.
-
Happy Birthday, Cillaliz!
-
Thank you, Ben. I forgot today was Friday and would have missed Filichia's column.
I'll add my own Swifty:
"I love Larry Hagman musicals," Tom whispered nervously.
-
Happy Birthday Greetings to DR Beloved Cillaliz!
Happy Boitday, Cilla!
-
DR George I left the book on my wish list. Too bad he didn't talk about his books which would have been more interesting.
-
I don't know why "Defying Gravity" lifts me up, Tom said loftily.
-
DR Vixmom I'm glad your mother was simply excited about her birthday and pushed it up a day ;)
-
From DR Cilla:
Hey, a little fawn was across the street from my house this morning. I'm sure it was a different fawn from yours, though
;D
They are just soooo cute.
-
DR Cilla do your parent's have a calendar they look at every day? I helped my father write down birthdays and important dates so he would remember. That worked until he began to forget to look at the calendar.

Funny stuff at Filichia on Friday!
'Tis indeed. ;D

DR Cilla,

-
DR JOHN G - now and then I watch some of the SyFy Channel's original movies. They are really jaw-dropping in every department.
I feel the same way about MANY of the Hammer Films, DR DOUG R....but there are a couple that I really like....
Curse of the Werewolf
Brides of Dracula
The Mummy

But then, I have never seen Poltergeist.

-
The Mother Abbess is my favorite character in The Sound of Music, said Tom reverently.
-
It is difficult to tell the difference from the big happy face I sent DR elmore and the laugh I sent DR Singdaw, at least it is for me.
-
I just adore Michel Legrand's score for Amour, said Tom lovingly.
-
You are right, DR Jane - they are very close. The happy face is slightly larger than the laugh and animated; that's about it! :)
-
I guess in Oklahoma, the wind really does come whippin' down the plain, said Tom drily.
-
I suppose A Chorus Line is the most well-known dance musical, said Tom, with a beat.
-
Someone should really turn the film "It Could Happen to You" into a musical, said Tom winsomely.
-
I'll be here all week, folks... 8)
-
Don't know if anyone has noticed, but Filichia on Friday had a nice makeover.
-
I'm up - phone ringing, doorbell ringing, head ringing.
-
The new modem cannot get here fast enough.
-
I'm not sure about the "circus concept" for the new Broadway revival of Pippin, said Tom flippantly.
-
Filichia on Friday had a nice makeover.
It's very colorful! (Said Tom, palely.)
-
DR TCB - today is also Cheyene's birthday. I expect you'll be busting out of his cake.

I love the score, so I'm glad to read that it's being showcased well and that some of the reviewers are giving Josh the credit for that. Would love to see this cast or hear it.

The new modem cannot get here fast enough.

Page four cannot get here fast enough.

Well, we've been home a week, so it's time to start planning another trip - NYC, November 10-16!
-
I feel the same way about MANY of the Hammer Films, DR DOUG R....but there are a couple that I really like....
Curse of the Werewolf
Brides of Dracula
The Mummy
I recall "Curse of the Werewolf" being rather better than the average Hammer product, JRand62.... I don't remember the other two though. I do have "Brides of Dracula on the Universal Hammer Franchise Collection DVD set - which I only bought for "Nightmare" and "Paranoiac" because I do very much like the Hammer psychological thrillers.
-
A Very Happy Birthday to DR Cillaliz!! :D
-
Well, we've been home a week, so it's time to start planning another trip - NYC, November 10-16!

-
I clapped profusely for that production of Applause, said Tom handily.
-
First and foremost...
Happy Birthday to DR Cillaliz!!
Wishing everyone a fab Friday!
And wishing BK a super speedy delivery of his super speedy new modem. I'll say it again, Time Warner is a bad disaster film in the making.
As for me, I just want this sinking ship play reading to be done. Countng the hours until Sunday night, when it sinks for good. :D
-
The new modem cannot get here fast enough. And it's here and it's working and the Time Capsule found it and I'm on the Internet speeding along. Yesterday, my Internet speed was 0.26, which is worse than dial-up. Today, it's 26.6, as fast as it gets. I went to Facebook and voila - that little Three Friends video of :53 duration that wouldn't even load loads instantly. I'm BACK!
-
The guy who installed said this modem is top of the line.
-
What a difference a modem makes.
-
I can't jog until Apple's call - everything's working fine, but I'll do the firmware update with them on the phone. I'm just so happy I can play You Tube videos again.

DR Cilla do your parent's have a calendar they look at every day? I helped my father write down birthdays and important dates so he would remember. That worked until he began to forget to look at the calendar.
Yes, and they write things down, but they still forget. I called mom this noon and she said she was planning to call me. I wasn't sure she remembered, so I just called them and they wished me happy birthday. They would feel bad if they forgot and it's not intentional, so it was easier that way. She said she mailed a card today so actually may have remembered or written it down.

Is the modem there yet?
-
Off to a collectors "Lifetime Liquidation Sale". He's clearing out his attic. It started at 9:00 AM but he's got so much good stuff that I'm sure there are many good things remaining.

Jury has Zimmerman trial. I am curious to see what happens in this case.

So much for Apple calling at twelve-thirty. So glad I waited for the non-call. I guess I'll call them now.

And I am home. And hungry.
-
Time Capsule is updated to latest version and firmware. And things are working even faster. Then I get an e-mail from Apple saying they tried to call - um, no. There was no call from Apple.
-
I'll probably jog in a couple of hours - a little too hot right now.

Still having an allergy attack that has lasted all day. Feel lower than low. And then I sneeze and sink some more. Blech.

Left work early, came home and collapsed. Woke up after 90 minutes and I'm starting to sneeze again. Blech. It's probably going to be an early Benadryl night.
Thanks for the vibes.
-
Vibes the Benadryl works and you feel better tomorrow.
-
Haven't eaten anything today, so I guess I can hold out for another couple of hours. I forgot to mention that I wore pants last night that I bought three years ago and have never been able to even approach wearing. I was thrilled a couple of weeks ago when I began to fit in size 34 clothes - THRILLED - this pair of pants is size 33 and I didn't even have to suck in my tummy to button - they buttoned very comfortably with room to spare and fit beautifully. I now have about ten new pairs of pants that I can wear. Another ten pounds over the next eight weeks, which shouldn't be that difficult, should get me down to size 32 again - although I'm at the point that anywhere from 32 to 34 is fine by me. I've really begun to notice the difference in the way I look and so have others who are now finally noticing the extent of the thirty pounds gone.
-
Well, I'm leaving work. Today is my sister's boyfriend's birthday and we're all meeting at my parents' house. I got the restaurant gift certificate for him and I'm sure he'll be happy with it.
Have a good rest of the evening, all! Until later. :)

Hunger. Of course the food is wretched where I'm going - what a waste of a meal. Nothing to be done about it. I'm sure I'll have the mediocre salmon, which is the lesser of all their evils.

The Mummy
Dont forget that Plague of the Zombies, DR JRand...or was that not a Hammer film?
My favorite Hammer horror is their version of PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. I also like CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN and BRIDES OF DRACULA. It has been such a long time since I have seen any of the others.
-
Happy Birthday to DR Cillaliz!
Thanks Kevin!
-
I ate a huge lunch at Star of India today...and I am still full. Dinner, if I have it, will be very late tonight, I think.

Oh my I'm full. Fuji Bay for lunch and La Fiesta Charra for dinner. I thought we'd have a quiet relaxed dinner at La Fiesta Charra, little did I know I would be wearing a sombrero while the wait staff sang to me in Spanish. It was a hoot

TOD:
CD: downloaded from Amazon.com three different Diljit Dosanjh cds. I love him and I love his music!
DVD: Just watched a completely delightful Indian film titled Gangoobai. It is a new release and is about a poor, elderly widow who, for four years, saves enough money and then travels to Mumbai to buy herself a very beautiful, handmade sari, the kind that she had always dreamed of owning. A feel good movie all the way. I highly recommend it, but you will want to have kleenex handy.
Here is the trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xffmIUSXoB4 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xffmIUSXoB4)

Speaking of POLTERGEIST (sort of), I am amazed to find out over the years how many friends are terrified of clowns. Not just dislike clowns, or freaked out by them; but rather pure terror! I have a friend who is a prison guard. He could take on any criminal in prison or out, but show him a clown and he is scared to death.
-
My brother hates clowns, don't know if he's terrified or not, but he hates them.

Are we talking the original THE BLOB, or the remake? I must confess that I have never seen either one.
-
The original BLOB scared the heck out of me when I was little

Benadryl time. Good night, all.

DR TCB - today is also Cheyene's birthday. I expect you'll be busting out of his cake.

Nope, not since he got the restraining order.

Original BLOB, right where it was filmed.
Lo-o-ong trip here, horrible traffic on the NJT, slower than BK's old modem. But the evening was great.

DR Jane, I'm not ignoring your question about Zimmerman, but not sure I want to stir things up. I guess I'll just say that from what I've seen, it isn't clear what was actually happening right before the gun was fired. I think there is a reasonable doubt because the prosecution didn't tell us what happened. I think the right verdict based on the evidence is not guilty, I think the jury could compromise and come back with manslaughter

Well, we've been home a week, so it's time to start planning another trip - NYC, November 10-16!
Excellent, DR Ginny! HHW-NYC get-together?
Hmmmm, I'm planning to go see A TIME TO KILL sometime this fall. May have to check into going that weekend. It opens October 20
Cilla, is this the same plot as the book? And has Mr. Holmes written other non-musicals?

Cilla, is this the same plot as the book? And has Mr. Holmes written other non-musicals?
It is totally from the book, he has never seen the movie. It has to do with having the rights to the book but not the movie or something like that. I'm sure it's been tweaked since it was in DC, but maybe DR FJL can tell you more, he saw it there.
Yes, he wrote ACCOMPLICE, SOLITARY CONFINEMENT, THUMBS and SAY GOODNIGHT GRACIE...that may be all of the non-musicals that were produced, not sure. He's currently working on the book for SECONDHAND LIONS that will be at Seattle's 5th Ave Theater from September 10- Oct 6. It's a musical. I guess I should say he's been working on the book for years and is getting ready for the production.

Today he sent me a photo of a pina colada birthday cake. It cracked me up
-
And I just noticed that one of the songs he wrote with Marvin Hamlisch, "I Belong With You" was in Behind the Candelabra

Congratulations, BK!
-
DR TCB I love your card.
Thanks, I thought it was cute.

Tell him, sure. Nicky says that there are plenty more where that one came from.

Yes, I saw that SECONDHAND LIONS was opening the season at the 5th Avenue. I was almost tempted to buy a season ticket, but as long as I am stuck in this chair I am avoiding going to the theater.

No Vixmom tonight? I hope she is okay. I would hate to think she is still at work,
-
I just heard on the news that some Fox station broadcast the name of the pilots on last weekend's plane that crashed. Unfortunately the names were a bad joke, but until the names were read out loud, no one realized the joke. I don't remember all of the names but the main pilot was listed as Capt. Sum Ting Wong. Bad joke.

My work here is done.
G'night!

Back from The Gardenia - strange and strangely middling show, but shockingly the dinner was great - salmon, perfectly done and perfectly fresh - there were only three servings of it and I got one of them, otherwise the fish was talapia or whatever the hell that is.
-
Well, the sister's boyfriend really liked the gift certificate that I got him for his birthday. :D He enjoyed all the gifts that he got. There weren't many, and I don't remember them all (one was a picture of him and his brother from about 20 years ago framed with one taken just a couple of months ago) but they were enjoyed.

Great news about the salmon, BK. And what a coinkydink...my mom made Larry (my sister's boyfriend) some salmon for his birthday dinner tonight and he loved it.

PAGE NINE DANCE!!

After tonight's birthday dinner, I came home, fed my cat, watched some TV and answered a couple of e-mails from Facebook. And now I'm here.

My brother hates clowns, don't know if he's terrified or not, but he hates them.
I work with a woman who doesn't like clowns, either. She's not afraid of them, but she just doesn't like them at all. She said that she never has, not even as a kid.
-
And now, to bed.
Good night, all.
