Well, you've read the notes, the notes had brevity, soul and wit, and now it is time for you to post until the witty and soulful cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: ADDITAMENT!
-
And now - Dino at the piano.
-
BK, I really like the song you posted tonight...both the uptempo part and the ballad. Definitely keep 'em coming! ;D
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
Good morning all.
Up and at 'em a little today. Got to leave in a few minutes for one of the big library book sales.
-
Excellent song. Will listen to it again later.
-
Nice song in the notes. I think Miss Joanie Sommers is back in Buffalo with her family now, if anyone wonders.
-
Terrible bus ride DR ELMORE.....you did the right thing by not engaging her further in conversation.
-
Last night I watched two French movies from France on TCM.....most entertaining.
-
I have to work today. Oh well.....
-
There have been three people in my neighborhood who switched to AT & T Uverse and within two weeks switched back to whatever they had before.
The only person I know who likes it is a very annoying customer at the bookstore who is always telling me how great is computer and television service is....but when I ask him about this or that he says...oh well I don't have that, but it doesn't matter.
-
There have been a couple of times in the past few years when I've suffered an outage wirh Comcast and gotten impatient and SWORN I was going to call AT&T. I even asked a couple of neighbors how they liked it and of course they said they'd never looked back. Well, everyone has different uses and different expectations, and somehow I don't take those as gospel, and I have yet to budge.
-
Okay, time to get off my arse and be on my way. Maybe I'll come back with a few good things.
-
And now I am off to work. Everyone have a great Saturday!
-
DR BK,
So sorry about your recent experience.
The other day, the doorbell rang. I always have the storm door locked. A young girl advised me I needed a new gas supplier and my previous one had expired.
I told her I could not make a decision without my hubby (Who was golfing) She got annoyed and walked away. (Which I found very rude).
I'm not as trusting as I used to be. I guess Wisdom comes with age. Always keep your door locked and don't invite them in. Check with the company by phone before making any decisions.
You should be alright, because you didn't give him your SSN.

TOD:
I'm not a Big Fan of Exploitation Movies but one comes to mind:
Psycho, I was petrified. Even to this day while in the shower, I sometimes think about it.
-
bk, "It Doesn't Get Easier" is gorgeous! Thanks for sharing it.
-
I had to Google "exploitation films" because I wasn't familiar with the term.
The things you learn on HHW!

We've had U-verse ever since we moved to Austin over 4 years ago, and...for the most part...we're pretty happy with it.

Hmmm.... there seems to be one missing. I wonder how that could possibly have happened?

Good morning, all! I slept late, because I can, and I've caught up on the notes, listened to BK's lovely song, and made my bed.
Because I have no work at Toyland, my funds are very very low t the moment. After I take care of my sister-in-law Jo's birthday gift tomorrow, I will be living on luck until Thursday, when my musician's pension lands in my account. So, I'm doing as little s I can till then. Thank God I have plenty of books and DVDs!
DR Ginny, I saw your message from last night. You can call me whenever!

TOD:
Unless you want to count films I enjoyed as a kid, like THE BEAST FROM 20,000 FATHOMS, CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON or THEM!, I don't watch "exploitation films".
I guess I do write them for Roger Corman (e.g. RAPTOR), but that doesn't mean I watch them.

Good morning, all.
Hope the AT&T mess gets straightened out today, BK.
Woke up with a headache and an eye still swollen half shut (all the symptoms of a full-blown sinus infection), but the color is better and I feel rested. So those are for the better.

Saturday morning greetings! It's pouring rain here in SW Ohio and I'm staying in for the day - laundry, puttering, etc.
-
Oh, and I have a phone call to make ;)
-
Couldn't get to sleep right away last night, so I finished "Before the Parade Passes By," the Gower Champion biography, which I quite enjoyed. It was fairly detailed about the shows and what Gower brought to them. Made me want to see "Prettybelle," for better or for worse, more than ever. And "Sugar," "The Happy Time" (even though it's been rewritten) and "Rockabye Hamlet."
The ending assessment from the critics was rather depressing. Most refused to place him in the same league with Fosse, Bennett and Prince because of what they determined an old-fashioned style. But why couldn't he have his own style and have that be acknowledged for what it is? More of his shows have had a longer lasting impact on the theater than either Fosse or Bennett. He was merely different from them.

OK, I think I've got it...

I'm up and awaiting the arrival of she of the Evil Eye, after which I shall do a jog.
-
Saturday. Really.
-
And this
-
Just talked to At&T and was assured that their people are in the neighborhood hawking UVerse and that the soft credit check is standard operating procedure and that these sales reps do ask for it. So, that made me feel a little better. She also said that if I end up having the guy place the order that I can call and do the credit check from my existing account rather than give the info to him. We'll see if he actually comes back or calls.
-
Well that's a relief, bk!
-
I watched the Blu-ray of THE MASTER today and all I can say is that I'm glad I rented it rather than bought it. Maybe someone can explain what the point of it all was?
-
Well waddya know? There is now a streaming service called Warner Archive Instant. For PC or Roku. $9.99 per month.
-
Good morning.
-
Bruce, glad that all worked out.

I just had a lovely phone call with our DR Ginny and I hope the charges don't bankrupt her and Richard!
I thinki I'll go out for a walk around the neighborhood, run a few errands and enjoy the current weather.

DR elmore I'm guessing DR Ginny pays a flat fee for long distance calls ;)

I'm back from the lovely Pequot Library annual book sale in Southport, CT, with just a dozen original cast CDs and a couple of movies. There wasn't a single book there that I needed to acquire, and this is one of the better of the regional library sales.
When I first discovered these sales some 15 years ago, I'd go crazy at them, carting back half a carload of sh stuff I really didn't need, or which really didn't belong in my "collection". It took maybe the next 10 years to play that out and finally have the damn epiphany which let me see I had really been hoarding -- not in the TV show sense, but in the massive quantities of unneeded things of surprisingly little value that I'd been accumulating. Much of that excess is mercifully gone, but there's always more work to be done in whittling things down. I've pretty well learned how to judge what really needs to come home with me, and am truly the happier for it.

Pretty library, thanks for the pic.

Good morning, all!
And happy weekend to those who get one. I rarely do, especially when working, because those are the double show days and longer rehearsals. But I've actually had a reasonably quiet morning so far, which is indeed rare.
And that is why, BK, I actually had time to fully enjoy your songs today (which I admit, I haven't always had time to really listen to in the mornings, and I hate only half listening). Love both songs, but as you say the stand alone "It Doesn't Get Easier" is extra special, and so very touching and beautiful.
I'll have to think more about the TOD...
-
This (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/180524-Despite-Recent-Trip-to-Manhattan-Tony-Winner-Karen-Olivo-Taking-Break-from-Theatre) baffles me. It would be like me taking a break from music. If you're good and making a living at what you're doing then why stop? Keep the drama on that stage...
(end of rant - it's just that kind of day!)

Greetings from Sacramento!

DR Ginny-- I waved when we flew over Ohio and got some strange looks from other passengers!

Last night I saw "Sugar" at Music Circus in Sacramento. It was really enjoyable! Brent and Jason are great together. The whole case is wonderful.
-
Nice songs, BK (in the notes)!
-
Love fellow Buffalonian Joanie Sommers! I wonder if DR Kate knew that she had moved back?
-
Sounds like fun, KevinH.
-
Off to get a shipment of grassfed beef. Hope I have room the freezer for all of it.

I love Joanie's singing on this commercial:

Back from a three-mile jog, some scrambled eggs and an English muffin (no bacon), and picking up the new Shirley Jones book, which actually arrived late yesterday. Today's packages haven't even gotten to the mail place yet so I'm ever hopeful that at least a few of the overdue ones will arrive.

I've pretty well learned how to judge what really needs to come home with me, and am truly the happier for it.
I'm hoping that I've (finally?) realized that, too. Last week, I rented a storage unit with the idea of getting things out of my house so that I could sort, organize, purge and clean. I'm nowhere near eligible to be on "Hoarders" (regardless of what my mom says), but I know that I've been heading in that direction...a bit. So, I'll start to move boxes out of my house and garage. The last time my mom came over and made me clean, we just put things away but didn't organize at all. That's what I want to do. Actually go through everything and keep what I really want to keep (ALL my A/V material, for instance) and get rid of all the "stuff" that's just sitting around and not being used, worn or touched.
-
That's the plan, at least. :)
-
Today, the family is going to my parents' house for a barbecue and to meet my parent's foreign exchange teacher. She's from Japan and supposedly can speak English fairly well. If I remember correctly, she's over here for a two or three week immersion course so that she can be more proficient in teaching English when she goes back to Japan.
-
In the meantime, I'm burning a DVD for my dad (Alfred Hitchcock's "Foreign Correspondent" from TCM). That should be done before 1:00. I want to finish it so that I can bring it over today.

Speaking of laughing and crying, this time it's my turn: I have to go to a locally written and produced semi-musical play tonight that I can't imagine is going to delight me. No choice in the matter, have to support good friends. Time to dig out a flask? :)

Page three? Pass me the damn flask.

Back to the mail place.

I'm watching the German tv versions of two Menotti operas The Old Maid And The Thief and The Medium from the mid-1960s. The comedy is a little too heavy and not sly enough for The Old Maid but the thriller is quite well done.
-
I think tonight, after the 8:00 Britcoms, I will watch Judi Dench in something called Ladies in Lavender. I have no idea what it is.
-
DR Ginny-- I waved when we flew over Ohio and got some strange looks from other passengers!

Good afternoon. I spent the day at a funeral. After the luncheon, I corralled two young people and guided them though the washing of the dishes. We were mostly successful at keeping the sweet tiny elderly ladies from working too hard. Kerry will know what I mean. Marilyn will be 95 this fall, and it is very difficult to keep her from working too hard.

I've never heard of a foreign exchange teacher. I like that. How did they find each other?

I liked it very much, Keith thought it was ok.

My dinner companion will be here around five-fifteen. Given a dinner companion, perhaps we'll have dinner. One of the packages was one of the overdue ones. Hoping the others arrive early next week.
-
We both liked "Snitch" last night though I needed Keith to translate much of what was said. Between my hearing & all the slang it was extra difficult ;D
I didn't realize the movie was "inspired by true events". The cast, which included Susan Sarandon to my surprise, was very good & the plot engrossing.

I agree. I think Gower Champion ranks right up there with Fosse, Benntt, and Prince. I thought the choreography in HELLO,DOLLY! was fabulous, and I have never seen anything to equal The Waiter's Gallop.
-
I looked up what "inspired by true events" referred to. If Wikipedia is to be trusted it wasn't at all what I thought and made my eyes do this ::)
-
Back from the 50th birthday party of a friend. Nice get-together that was supposed to have been followed by dancing. They went, I decided against it. The pills have left me slightly groggy. Think the pillow in a few will be a better bet.
-
A Place in the Sun arrived today. It's playing now. Lot of dreamy music in it. Love those ominous tones.
-
Just made a jar of Cherry Cherry Ice Cream. It should be ripe and ready for the eating tomorrow.

Where is everybody today? On vacation with Vixmom?

At this rate, we'll never make it to page five.

But I can get us to post 100.

No movie tonight. Don't think I could concentrate on it.

I enjoyed this morning's song, BK.

Brunch in the morning. Should be good.

Found a few movies I've wanted to see at Costco today.

The Four Seasons with Alan Alda, Len Cariou and Carol Burnett and more. I had loved a lot of it when it came out. Will be interesting to see several decades later.

-
Connie and Carla, the not-so-hot musical from the maker of My Big Fat Greek Wedding. I like Toni Collette in it.
-
And Baby, the Rain Must Fall with Steve McQueen and Lee Remick. It's got a Horton Foote screenplay, so it should be interesting. Don't know why I haven't seen it before.
-
Anyway, that's my run of posts.
-
TCB, I leave it to you to push this to page five.

Good night, all.

Um, we really don't want to top out at one post on page five, do we? That will not make me very happy.

Had a nice dinner with a friend then said friend wanted to watch the Swedish The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, so we did. This is my third time seeing it, although only the second time seeing the extended version. Bottom line: For me, one of the best if not THE best movie of the last decade. For me, like Chinatown and Rosemary's Baby and a few other films, I don't get tired of this and it's always like seeing it for the first time because the plot is so dense and the characters so wonderful. Said friend will come back to watch the two subsequent films.
-
Get me off this damn patti page.
-
What am I, doing a monologue?
-
Bitch slapping ahead, oh, yes, bitch slapping ahead.

I had a chopped salad for dinner, with some wings, at The Studio Cafe.

I'm so glad to hear you say that. I loved the Swedish film of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, which I viewed after reading the three books. Absolutely riveting. It reminds me to watch it again. Thank you.

It's interesting - Cuckoo's Calling still has very few first editions at the ABE and what's there isn't selling at 3500 or 2500. One signed copy just sold at just under four grand. One other signed copy is available for 6,200. It's been revealed that 250 copies were signed and they all went to one dealer and that's where all these have come from. That dealer is now selling on eBay so heaven knows how many copies they held back. They're currently Buy It Now for 4600. But the unsigned firsts seem to be holding steady at 1500 to 1700, which is interesting after the price went up so quickly. However, I think when the ten or so copies currently listed all sell at those prices, then the next batch will probably go up.
I have to say that the dealers' behavior with this book has been fairly reprehensible and you can see the result on the ABE in star ratings for those dealers plunging to either zero or one. Before I snagged my copy, I had purchased - PURCHASED - two other copies on the ABE that very first day, as soon as they became listed (I was hanging out on that page most of that first day). One dealer canceled the purchase, saying he'd gotten too many orders to fill, when I know I was the first person to order from him. And then, magically, a day later he had a copy up for ten times what I was supposed to pay. Funny that. The other dealer actually confirmed my order, but then didn't complete the purchase. This they apparently did to so many people that the ABE suspended their account.
I'd also that very first day purchased via amazon third party seller, one copy of the US edition, just to have it. And that first day that dealer could ONLY have had first printings - the book didn't go into its second printing until a week later. So, I got a confirmation and a shipping notice saying it had been shipped via DHL but no tracking info, which made me suspicious. It should have been here days ago. I wrote the seller a VERY strong e-mail and he apologized and acknowledged it should have been here and made a refund plus ten bucks for my disappointment. I think we all know when he saw what was happening he just held back his copies and didn't ship anyone's book That is what I mean by reprehensible.
-
RYacko, if you haven't gotten the extended editions of the trilogy, that's what you should get - the first film is longer by twenty minutes and that extra material is great. And the extended versions of films two and three, which are much longer than the standard versions, are also helped immeasurably the the added scenes.

BK, I have yet not seen the extended versions of any of the trilogy. That is exactly what I will get. Thank you for the recommendation!
