Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of the strawberry frappe, and now it is time for you to post until the strawberry cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: ESSE!
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
Good morning, all! Around 5:30am, I had a round of ROBERTA anxiety attacks and at 6:10, i figured, to hell with it and dragged my butt out of bed.
So, I will head down to Toyland this morning. I've printed out a complete full score, piano-conductor score and set of orchestra parts for DEAREST ENEMY to be used as a set of masters, and I will spend the next couple of weeks making corrections. Around noon, Anthony Morelli is coming by, so we'll see how much I can accomplish before he arrives.
-
17th Century books? Either a Shakespeare folio or the King James Bible.
-
Good morning, all.
Thankfully, it's work from home day. I can sneeze and pop pills whenever I want today. Don't care for the ear drops. Left ear seems more blocked than before.
Hope everyone else is feeling better than I am.
-
TOD: Any of the works of George Eliot, Dickens or Trollope. I'd love a first of Anna Karenina, but it would be in Russian. That's when the art of collecting and the practical collide. (I couldn't even read the name on the spine, so what would I feel about having it?)
Any of the novels of Dawn Powell or Zora Neale Hurston.
-
Good morning, all.
Allergy sneezing this morning, but I shan't complain in light of what DR John G. is dealing with.
-
Some bills to pay, and other semi-oy-ische obligations to tend to today. Oy.
-
Very nice songs in the notes this morning.
-
Coffee!
-
:)
-
good morning to all
-
No coffee till I get to work.
Can't drive with caffeine in my veins.
Coffee at 7:30, 9:00, l2:00 and 2:30. Yum.
;)

I've somehow become the third wheel in my own personal soap opera. It's cancelled after tonight

TOD
Guttenberg bible or whatever book he printed first

If I had any doubts hat yesterday was Monday, the whole day did its best to convince me. So today must be Tuesday. I'd bet on it.
-
That sounds very frustrating about the three new singers not being prepared. :(
-
Tuesday MEGA VIBES.
:)

Well, I read that wrong! I thought it was only from the 17th Century! In that case I want a first edition Pride & Prejudice or Persuasion.

TOD
Guttenberg bible or whatever book he printed first
The Guttenberg Bible was printed in the 15th Century.
This is going to be a horrible day! All hell is breaking loose with the Dublin team; it's all about scheduling, the fact that when artists were booked and flight arrangement were made, we had no conductor, and now schedules are a mess. The people in Dublin are crabby, I'm crabby, and it's going to be an interesting day.

Dublin Hell Day VIBES for DR Elmore!
-
Before moving any further along, I think we should decide whether the word is pronounced "Frap" or "Fra-PAY".
-
TOD:
Since I'm not a book collector, I would choose the book that would get me the highest price on the open market...whatever that book might be.
::)

And the word of the day is: ESSE!
And The Song Of The Day Is: LISTEN TO MY HEART
-
Tuesday morning greetings! Today I have to buckle down and get some AAUW work done. It's another gorgeous day in SW Ohio.
-
Allergy vibes for DRs John G and ChasSmith!
-
DR Elmore, I hope the Dublin drama settles down soon...
-
First rehearsal for the rap/hip-hop show was fine. The cast is great but young. I think it will be fun.
-
Hello Everyone:
TOD:
I would love a First Edition of "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn".
Francie is the Main Character. Her Dad is loving and likeable. Her Mom, strict, Pragmatic and wise.
It shows the need for balance in life.
The tree is a symbol, which grows without water or light, stands for perservance.
-
TOD:
A Shakespeare folio would be nice. Other than that...I've got the first edition I want of SHE by H. Rider Haggard. I have two firsts of it.
-
Man -- bad cases of crabs on both sides of the Atlantic today!
Or, a surplus of crabs on both sides of the Atlantic today!
-
TOD: I'd very much love to own a first edition of "A Room With A View". This story combines my passions for things Italian (revelling in revealing attitudes of tourists who apply their own values to how others live) and things British (just the state of British-osity is invigorating...in the Honeychurch family and the Vises). And then there is Charlotte!! Its characters are fun, the story is well-written and I never tire of it.
-
The chaos seems to have calmed down for now. I am getting tired of reminding everyone on the email lists - producer, engineer, and production office to please include the conductor in the correspondence!
-
Whew. Just paid some ugly bills and dealt with a couple of other ugly things. Rest of the day should be nicer.
-
No more ugly vibes for DR CHAS SMITH.
Continued settling down vibes for DR ELMORE.
Looking at the lists from yesterday just reminded me how Out of everything but the show I am right now. That's the only thing on my poor pitiful brain......
First Edition.....didn't Kenny Rogers sing with them?
-
Chas - Are there any other kinds of bills (if they have to be paid anyway)?
-
The chaos seems to have calmed down for now. I am getting tired of reminding everyone on the email lists - producer, engineer, and production office to please include the conductor in the correspondence!
That's so strange that that happened.
Can you ask someone you trust to just forward you everything?

I couldn't get on the Internet from home this morning. I will have to listen to bk's songs tonight.
-
TOD:
I would love to own a first edition of E. M. Forster's novel Maurice.
Also a complete set of firsts of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series, but especially the first one, as bk indicates that it is the rarest.
I don't think that's ever gonna happen, though. :)
-
bad cases of crabs on both sides of the Atlantic today!
I've heard that the treatment for CRABS is CARBS. :)
-
~ ~ ~ FEEL BETTER PRONTO VIBES ~ ~ ~ for DR John G. and DR ChasSmith!
~ ~ ~ LESS AGITATO VIBES ~ ~ ~ for DR elmore3003!
-
We have unexpected friend's from out of town.
I'll be back tomorrow. Have a nice day.
-
Good morning, all!
BK, thanks for the kind words on rehearsal. It's great material, and I'm loving working on these songs.
Also, lovely songs of yours today. I especially liked Three Acts. Beautiful.
Off to replace a bum tire. Yes, on my car, thank you. :D
-
Man -- bad cases of crabs on both sides of the Atlantic today!
Or, a surplus of crabs on both sides of the Atlantic today!
I presume you mean the crustaceans.
-
Since I was corrected about the Guttenberg bible. I would like a first edition of L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
-
I'm up, I'm up - finally got around nine or maybe even ten hours of blessed sleep. The phone did wake me up at nine-thirty but I fell right back asleep until the phone woke me up at 10:40. I think I fell asleep just before one.
-
Interestingly, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is a VERY pricey first edition - it actually really surprised me when I saw what excellent copies were going for - in the 6000 to 8000 range.
A Room With a View - currently no really nice copies available - the ones that are range from about 3500 down.
She - there is one copy available for 23,000 but that copy is in excellent condition and is signed by H. Rider Haggard to his mother - one of a kind. Otherwise nice copies can be had for under 2,000.
Maurice, although written at the beginning of the 20th Century wasn't published until 1970 - it's fairly easy to find in first edition and pretty inexpensive.
The oldest Shakespeare available on the ABE is a fourth folio edition from 1695. It's very reasonable - only $245,000.
If you want to have some fun go to abe.com, click on "advanced search" up on the top left, fill in author name and title, and then tick the box that says first edition (and, if applicable, "dust jacket"), then where it says "lowest price" change to "highest price" and click search.

That's what I was thinking...an autographed true first edition of "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone." Yeah, that's the ticket!

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone - there are currently no copies, signed or unsigned, available. There is some dealer trying to charge 39,000 for a signed set of firsts of all the books - that's the way it's advertised - until you read the fine print that states the first book is a first edition, third printing. Dear idiot bookseller: Find a different line of work, you rube. Once a book goes into another printing it is no longer a first edition, no matter how much you may wish it to be. A first edition second printing or third printing is worthless to any real book collector.

I had a lovely visit with Anthony, and DSR Ben showed up as a nice surprise. As is par for today, I've been swamped by too many emails from Dublin and New World Records. Dublin's all about orchestra setup and the switchover from full orchestra to the 7-piece stage band for the last recording session. New World's about DEAREST ENEMY artwork. To make matters more complicated, the Man From Philadelphia has entered the situation, and he and New World have contacted Rodgers & Hammerstein for 1925 artwork on the show, and - guess what? - I sent them the original artwork ages ago!
This is one of those "get stinkin' drunk" days!

Interesting Cuckoo's Calling doings on eBay - two signed copies sold in the last two days at fairly reasonable prices - one at 2900 one at 2700 - those sellers are probably kicking themselves - both listings ended in the middle of the night here in the US - no one is looking then and that's when you can get the best deals. Oops. There are only two signed copies on the ABE, both listed for over 5K - those won't sell at that price, it's too soon. And the two reasonable copies that just sold on eBay are going to cause other people not to bid what they've been bidding in hopes that it will happen again. It has come to light that she only signed 250 copies. So, those will be very rare if she doesn't sign AS Robert Galbraith anymore. I also think on eBay we're seeing the same signed copies listed over and over again - they sell mostly to dealers who just turn around and list again at a higher price hoping for the best. The frenzy for signed copies can be traced specifically to this high-end dealer here in LA who was the first to list and GET 4,000 for one. Other than the two reasonable copies that just sold, it's been holding at around 3300 to 4000. And a copy of the unsigned first ended middle of the night and that went cheaper than most of the ones that have been selling in the last few days - for around 1100.
My prediction: It's going to stay where it is now, maybe for a while - and then, when she writes her second book, which she says she will, then this will skyrocket much higher. None of these dealers are going to have that patience, though.
-
TOD - surprisingly, for a librarian, I'm not all that interested in books as collector's items. Guess that's why I never had a career in the Rare Book Room...
-
An original Edgar Allan Poe would be nice, but I think a lot of his stories were published first in magazines....
-
Ah there are a few First Edition Poes on ABE.....for up to $19,750....

I think I would go for a Dickin's first edition, either OLIVER TWIST or A CHRISTMAS CAROL. Since I have played both Fagin and Scrooge, twice each, it would be a nice memento. I have never really understood why the musical, OLIVER, is so popular at Christmas; so I guess I would opt for A CHRISTMAS CAROL
Other choice for a first edition would be A NIGHT TO REMEMBER, by Walter Lord.

Just read that Eillen Brennan (Little Mary Sunshine and Irene Malloy in Hello, Dolly!) has passed away at the age of 80. She might have been better remembered for her oscar nominated role in the film Pvt Benjamin which she also did for the TV series

The book "stacks" are housed in a glass cubicle in the center of the interior; very dramatic.
The fire protection system, when tripped, sounds an alarm. You have a finite amount of time to exit the stacks, after which all the oxygen is sucked out of the stacks. It puts out the fire without using water, which would obviously damage the books. It also means that if you hear that alarm, you'd better get out!!!

Now at the Hilton in Bucharest after a very frustrating journey. There was a problem with the aircraft fuel gauge which took four hours to fix while we were all stuck on the plane. it's a good job I used my air miles to go business class because I would have hated being squashed in economy all that time, I'm not sure whether they totally fixed the problem because they decided to top the plane up with more fuel- presumably just in case there wasn't enough!
-
DR Doug R - how disconcerting!! Glad that you arrived safely.

DR BK,
I wish I could afford that first edition!

This is a puppy named Bull. He is suspected of being a chimera; a pet that is genetically two different animals. Essentially, he is his own twin! In this case, the mix appears to be black and yellow labrador.

Yes, I'm back. I stopped in briefly while having something to eat.
There are multiple fires in the next county, for those who are familiar with Oregon they are near Grants Pass, and they all seem to have blown this way. Our smoke is much heavier today, worse than I ever remember it.
The Grants Pass area is beautiful. I wish they would get those fires put out!!!!!

I recall the old Ballroom is worth looking at. I was invited in by an employee to see it. While not the most impressive of ballrooms it was lovely and had a bit of interesting history I no longer remember.

Back from a nice lunch at a hip new place next to Trader Joe's in the little strip mall behind Du-Par's, called Crave. This used to be an Eyetalian jernt that was merely okay. Crave is a little too "now" for my tastes, but I had a crepe with cheese, onions, egg and mushroom - it was okay.

bk, I hope you had a frappé with that crepe!!

And there you can see why the original Dolly cast album sounds like it was recorded in a distant country - one mic for all. Buh-bye band, buh-bye singers.
-
And I am home from a mostly hellish day at Toyland. I got a bit f work accomplished, I had a nice visit, and I had a horrendous round of communications over ROBERTA and DEAREST ENEMY. I'm ready to get drunk. Is there any booze in the apartment? I doubt it.
Maybe I'll settle for ice cream!

Having an issue with one of our cast members - she was booked to do a concert at Musical Theatre West - start time on Saturday was eight. All along she's been told they'll rehearse this week. Today that all changed. No rehearsals this week, new start times and not just one but two - at six-fifteen and seven-fifteen and rehearsal before. They're now putting her in a terrible position and she's asking us if she can run her stuff outside of the run-through - which I have never done and never will do - my stumble-through is the only chance I have to see how the structure and show order work and I occasionally get things wrong and adjust once I've heard and seen the show and I will not be denied that opportunity and I especially will not be denied it be some theater that doesn't give a crap about what position they put a performer in or anything else besides their self-serving promotional concert.
I'm on the cusp of replacing her because I resent this inconvenience so very much. My co-producer said who are we going to find to learn the three songs so quickly and I reminded her that this cast member doesn't know them yet or certainly didn't yesterday. We'll see how it plays out but I'm a little nauseated right now. She's known our schedule for three and a half weeks - if this sickening theater (she just did a show there and obviously wants to keep that door open and that I understand) changes everything at the last minute, that is NOT my problem and I loathe them for just assuming that WE have to work things out.

No overdue packages. Very irritating.
Speaking of overdue packages...I had ordered the new Broadway cast recording of Pippin (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CQUNSJM/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and the new Off Broadway cast recording of Closer Than Ever (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CM9JMC4/ref=ox_ya_os_product) and I just happened to check the order and it said that it was shipped and delivered and that it was delivered on July 25! What?? I have all of my Amazon shipments sent to me here at work but I hadn't gotten this. I did receive Scandalous (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CXX7E9C/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) yesterday, so where was my other package? I checked the Acquisitions unpacking area and my two CDs were in an opened Amazon box addressed to Timberland. However, the date received stamp was before it was shipped, so they must've been put in a different box. These titles are not on order for Timberland. The real problem is that disc 1 of "C.T.E." is cracked! The outside packaging was completely complete...not a scratch on it...but the center has a very obvious and non-fixable crack. And because it's broken, I can get a replacement for free. I don't have to pay for shipping it back.
-
But MOST fortunately, it's not cracked so badly that I am actually able to rip the CDs to MP3s before I send it back so I'll be able to listen to it while waiting for said replacement. I'm getting the exact same item, so there shouldn't be any legal issue. ;)
-
I gotta tell you.
-
But I won't.
-
George, report back on Scandalous, please. And the new Closer Than Ever. Hard to think I'd need a new recording to replace the original.
-
George, report back on Scandalous, please. And the new Closer Than Ever. Hard to think I'd need a new recording to replace the original.
I've gotten through the first half of the first disc. I like it because I like the songs (and there are several new songs), but I'm soooo used to the original cast that it'll take time to get used to another recording.
-
Woops. It probably looked like I've been here all along, when what I was doing was watching LORD OF THE FLIES. Been ketchuping on a lot of recent releases which has been very satisfying. Now, what next?
-
Performer replaced - stepping in is Chelsea Emma Franko, who we adore and who's stepped in at the last minute one other time and been great, so I have no worries at all - in fact, I was ready to can this other gal yesterday when she didn't know her stuff. Chelsea will be better anyway. I used this other gal because Adryan loves her - obviously she won't be asked back and Adryan is kind of soured on her, too.

It's too bad that that has to happen. :-\
Congrats on the quick replacement, though!

Good news that you've got someone that quick and that good, BK.

Watching Victor/Victoria, the original film. Haven't seen it in a while. One of my favorite later Blake Edwards pictures. Great style.

Well, I'm off. I need to get something to eat before rehearsal tonight, so I'm leaving.

Forgot to sign out when I left for rehearsal.....so I am back.....but I never really left.....
-
But now I really am going, because I am very tired......
Good to hear that The Girl Who Couldn't Be There was replaced.
I remember when Eileen Brennan was hit by a car.....crossing the street I think.....and she nearly didn't survive....it was scary for a few weeks....if I remember correctly.....
-
Later this evening we can see 10,000 BEDROOMS - Dean Martin's first film sans Jerry Lewis....I have never seen it, and I think I will take a look.
-
Puttering around, drinking lime Cokes. (A few generous slices generously squeezed over a generous amount of ice in a large tumbler, drop the aforementioned generously squeezed slices into the glass, pour Coca-Cola Zero generously over the top. I am nothing if not generous. Delicious, and a great warm weather drink.)
Can't decide if I'm really up for watching something else now or should I begin winding down.
-
Good night, all.

Last week TCM aired the 1930s version of VICTOR/VICTORIA starring Jessie Matthews. I watched it over the weekend...well, most of it. I never did finish it. Sure had some great songs in it.

Last night's MAJOR CRIMES was a pretty intense episode (I just finished watching it) which had me in tears a few times.

Night JohnG!

I am pleased to say that I have had good luck this week in getting three wonderful Punjabi film actors to submit to a
cross- examinations interviews, which will be published in the very near future.
I know that names won't mean a thing to you all, but here are their glossy head shots for your viewing pleasure!

LIKELY STORIES VOL. 2: "The Lays of Our Lives
Here is the one and only Timothy Carey in his brief but memorable bit as the Gynecologist in "The Lays of Our Lives," the soap opera spoof from the HBO sketch comedy series LIKELY STORIES that aired in the 1980's. It was written and directed by Bruce Kimmel. We also catch a glimpse of Gerrit Graham and Debralee Scott from the previous scene. It is my understanding that those are Jewel Shepard's legs.

Back from a grueling comp session - got four songs done and just had to stop. This will probably take another two nights at least - it's just painstaking work, which I'll explain in the notes, and it's very tiring.
-
The girl we're replacing is upset because she feels that she will know the material and is willing to come any other time to make up for the Saturday rehearsal - she's not understanding what that rehearsal is about - my only chance to see the show run straight through so that I'll know if something isn't playing right and I need to make changes. It's not fair to me, not fair to the rest of the cast and a deal breaker and we tell everyone that up front. She probably thinks I'm the villain but afraid not - she's clearly afraid to stand up to the people who are really screwing things up for her, and that's fine. But that's her deal, not mine. If I were her and her age I would have told the other people, "Look, I have this other commitment I made before yours - you gave me a schedule for the rehearsals and performance and that schedule worked so I could do both. Now you've completely changed everything - I can't disappoint the people to whom I committed to first." Then they could have done whatever. But when they know that someone isn't going to make waves then they're just all cocky about it and figure "Oh, who needs to do Kritzerland when we're a big theater." Well, I know which I'd choose for the long term good.

Page six?

Whatever happened to pages like ten, eleven and twelve?

Those were fun video clips, Michael.

Well, I'm off. I need to get something to eat before rehearsal tonight, so I'm leaving.
Be back later!
Tonight, we had a pretty good rehearsal. We went through the scenes that we blocked last night, but we were in the space where we'll perform. That's always nice. It's a lot larger than the small space we had last night. I also realized that I have a few more lines that I though. I didn't go through my script as thoroughly as I should have, so I have a few more lines to highlight. :)
-
After rehearsal, I stopped at Fred Meyer (it's right across the street from the rehearsal/performance space) and was just going to see if they had anything on sale. Well, they did! Most of the clothes were on sale (certainly, everything that I was interested in), AND everything that I bought was at least an additional 50% off the lowest marked price! I even got four t-shirts with a two-for-one-with-no-limit coupon that was right there in the store. The full price for everything that I bought was $284.79, but with all the discounts, I only paid a grand total of $121.65! I love it when that happens! :D
-
Now, I have to balance my checkbook. My automatically deposited paycheck was just automatically deposited, so I have to make sure that it's all correct. It's been a while since I did.
-
Notes are posted and now I'll change topics.
