Well, you've read the notes, the notes were comped and were vocal, and now it is time for you to post until the comped cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: COAPTATION!
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
Thundery rain showers here in Bucharest. I've had to take shelter in a cafe, after previously taking shelter in the art gallery!
-
Lovely photos yesterday, DR Laura - thanks for posting the link.
-
DR John G. - I think Leslie Ann Warren's performance in Victor/Victoria is one of my all-time movie favorites. :)
-
:)
-
Morning.
I'll take shelter in the cafe and art gallery ;)
Good morning.
-
Great pictures. Yes.
I forward a lot of them to my somewhat more boring friends.
Of which I am more boring than they are, sometimes.
But I am always more fun. Because I choose to act like i'm 5 at 60.
;D
-
And on that note, I've got nothing.
Off to work.
Great Wednesday everyone.
:)
-
:) ;)
-
I'd say it's Wednesday if I were a betting man. I'm not, really, but I d still say it's Wednesday.
-
good morning to all

I wonder if they talk about playing Cinderella
-
Good morning, all.
Yet another crazy surreal dream that I can't quite recreate in my mind. Other than that, I guess, nothing to report.
Coffee!
-
Good morning, all! I slept late. until 8:00pm, and then got tied up with emails about DEAREST ENEMY and ROBERTA, same as yesterday. I'm on my second cup of coffee and thinking about eggs.
Today I am taking a personal day and doing as little as possible. I wanted to go to the library at Lincoln Center and look at Otto Harbach drafts of ROBERTA, but I forgot to take my copyright libretto from Toyland yesterday in all of the madness, so I'll do that tomorrow. This will be a housecleaning day, and the apartment needs it.
-
Good morning, all.
Leslie Ann Warren, Alex Karras and the rest of the supporting cast are great. Just enjoyed it so much more than the filmed version of the stage play, which I'm glad to have but is a pale, pale shadow of the original.
-
BK, you made the right choice about replacing the singer. The longer you pondered it, the less time her replacement would have to prepare, and rehearsals to settle things need the cast to be there.
DRcillaliz, welcome back! I had meant to ask DRvixmom if we'll ever see the return of William Orr. I would like to see that.
And now, let's fix some eggs.
-
Great photos, DR Laura. Loved the dragonflies. What type of bird was in the final shot?
Also, great photos, MBarnum.
-
BK, re: replacing the girl. I can see blaming her for not knowing her stuff. But I personally don't think that you blame her for what the other theatre did. You said she was young. I can totally understand why she would not want to burn any bridges with those people.
But that said if she can't be at the rehearsal then i think you are right to replace her.
I wonder if the other theatre would have replaced her if she had spoken up.

So, yesterday around 2 pm, our U-Verse modem went out, and we were told that the repairman cannot come until between 4-8 pm today. We had no internet access or television last night.
>:( >:( >:(
I was not a happy camper...primarily because I movie I've wanted to see for years was on TCM last night, and I missed it.
:( :( :(
This morning, I get up ad the modem is working. Miracle of miracles!
:o :o :o
However, I'm still going to have the repairman come out and replace it.

Sorry to hear that. I hate it when stuff like that happens. What was the movie?
-
My Blu-Ray player is giving me problems, and it will probably be better to replace it that to repair it.
I want to get a player capable of surround sound (the room is pre-wired for it) and also with a tray that slides out. I hate the players that "grab" the disc and pull it in.
Any suggestions for a good brand and model?
I have a Samsung, but I've never been totally happy with it.
Thanks.

Wednesday morning greetings! Rainy morning here in SW Ohio and I slept quite late. Easing into the day before I have to get ready for my dental appointment this afternoon. I'll get my new crown today.
-
On the way home from the Y yesterday I stopped to pick up a tuna sandwich at Subway. While I was eating it, DN/G Lauren texted to ask if she could visit. She was here for a couple of hours and we had a nice catch-up. She's working 2 jobs this summer, one of them her first real professional job as an athletic trainer. It was great to see her!

Last night, Kristen Chenoweth performed on Leno's "Tonight" show a parody of "Popular" from "Wicked". The song was for Anthony Weiner.

DR DRUXY I have a Samsung Blu Ray player that I have always been pleased with, but it does have a tray. I also hate computers or other devices that GRAB your disk......
I would just say that I have had a LOT of trouble with Philips electronics, and also surprisingly RCA devices....so other than that, I would say go for it.....
-
I would add that you should consider an all-region BD player since you're in the market for a new machine.

Rehearsals are moving along. I finished the story for the print outlets today and will send them off to the weeklies to meet their early deadlines.
I started the slide show for the lobby - but of course the girl who PROMISED to be there last night to take the rest of the photos, didn't show up.....never did like her....ever since she came in and told me all of my makeup was wrong and no good and should be thrown away. Oh, and she just happened to be selling makeup that would be perfect and I should buy some from her.... And in fact, she did throw a lot of my stuff away when she was working on a show that I wasn't involved in.... So I don't like her.
That just means that I will have to take the rest of the photos tonight....which is hard, because I am NEVER off the stage.....

For balance, here's a theater spoof for Christine Quinn, Anthony Weiner's main opponent at this point
:)
This was for Christine Quinn - on the strange occasion of seeing Speaker Quinn (and thus her staff) boldly getting behind Shakespeare in the Parking Lot's issue against the city for charging it for using parking spaces up - which clearly got through her office gatekeepers as a crucial issue

My question for ASK BK day is:
Would you ever consider playing Man in the Chair in THE DROWSY CHAPERONE?
-
Here is one thing I know about today:
There needs to be a bacon cheeseburger in it somewhere.
I like your way of thinking.
Oh, and Friday is National Ice Cream Sandwich Day.
-
I finished the story for the print outlets today
I sure hope you spelled your name right this time! ;)
-
Well...it should be....but time will tell.....if I am in a photo, all bets are off.
-
The carpet cleaner man has come and gone. Along with Joe Turner.
In any case, he was there for 2.5 hours, and charged me less than $80, which I thought was more than reasonable. And he got out every one of the tough stains that I wasn't sure wouldn't come out. :) He talks to them, you see. Coaxes them. "Come out, you darned spot!"
-
The Spot Whisperer, as it were.
-
if I am in a photo
Sounds like the only way that might happen is if you do a "selfie." :)
-
The production photos are all from the Perspective of The Chair. ;D

A friend put this photo on Facebook yesterday. I think the smoke is even worst today.

DR Laura how did you capture those dragonflies. Ours never hold still, and you got the white with black like we have. :)
-
Wow, DR Jane - that is awful! I assume the smoky smell comes with it. It can't be good for people suffering from asthma, either!

Get off the crack, Kristin, and stop supporting this loser.
If you'd listened to it, you'd have realized the "parody" was not supportive.

This is not my week!
-
My question for ASK BK day is:
Would you ever consider playing Man in the Chair in THE DROWSY CHAPERONE?
Probably not - the original guy was so good that I don't know what I'd bring to it AND I certainly don't know if I'd want to learn all those lines!
-
I'm up after just eight hours of sleep - was hoping for more but alas. Very overcast out.
-
Jennifer, I'm blaming the theater but there are ethics involved here, I'm afraid. Her commitment was to us first - period. The little donor one-song thing that she's doing is not a paying gig, it's a favor. THEY changed everything not us and they put her in a horrible position and if it were me at that age I would have said to whomever, you've put me in a horrible position and I have to honor my first commitment - she IS paid for our show, BTW.
We just went to finalize a guy for the anniversary show - this is a guy who committed to the show a couple of months ago, then dropped out for a bigger gig, but said he could definitely do September. He e-mailed us yesterday saying it looked good but he couldn't let us know for two weeks. How is that "I can definitely do September." He's lucky he's dealing with Adryan who is nice about these things. With me it's very simple - tell me definitely and I assume that word actually has meaning and assume you can definitely do it. Do this crap twice and I will never work with you - period. And that's the case here - I'm done with this guy.
-
Jane, that photo is depressing. Looks like it was taken from the inside of a barbecue pit.
-

I'm so happy Chelsea is back with us. She'll come through like gangbusters.
And I, too, am frustrated with how Musical Theater West handles things. Knowing she was young, I don't doubt they pushed her to do their bidding, when they indeed were the ones to change schedules at the last minute. It's frustrating when professional people like they claim to be treat you as if you have no life or work outside of their interests. When you're more seasoned, you learn to say no, especially when you're already committed to something else.
And yes, if nothing else, she should have simply said, I have to honor my paid commitment first, and worked out an alternate rehearsal for their freebie.
Hopefully, this will be a good lesson for her.
-
Scary photo DR JANE.
LOL - well MR BK - the lines are fun to say....and yes I agree....the original Man in the Chair was great....as were Beth and Danny and everyone else.... But the show is so much fun, and The Man says so many things that SOUND like you....well....time will tell.
I am doing my opening monolog in my best Bruce Kimmel way.

Oh...there are LOTS of scary clips on You Tube of productions of THE DROWSY CHAPERONE.....I had to stop watching them.
Last night on the way home.....the police were turning everyone LEFT onto a country road. The road narrowed and then turned into a gravel road....with NO cross roads....and it had hard left turns and right turns.... Eventually I came to a T-Stop....didn't even know which direction I was facing...it was raining....
So I turned right and eventually got to a highway I recognized. But I didn't know which way to turn....so I went RIGHT....and a few miles down I got to the intersection of THAT highway and my original road. Police were there to keep people from going into Greencastle. Nothing on the news today, so I don't know the reason.....

I think I at last have all of my lines....ALL of them as written.....we shall see tonight.
Last night, since we hadn't finished the night before....we started with a scene near the end of the show, and that was very difficult, for some reason..... I hadn't really built up to anything....so it was jarring....and then we stopped at the same place....
Tonight we shall begin at the beginning and go to the end. I hope.

Yes DR MBARNUM....she arrived today....and hopefully I can watch some of them tonight.

Well, it looks like my DVR is shot. It goes on and off by itself. I tried to watch programs that were recorded and got a message saying they were not available. But then I noticed that Kelly and Michael was recorded today ( I meant to stop recording after Broadway week) and I'm able to watch that, but apparently nothing else! That's really disappointing since I have several Awards shows (Tony, Oscar) and also my nephew's appearance on American Ninja Warriors (maybe that will be on again--I hope).

You are braver than I am, Jane.
-
To be fair to the gal, I'm sure the theater is intimating that she might get to do the role in the show she's singing the song from. I'm sure that's the come on - whether that happens or not is not known right now, but if the director is the same then maybe. They tend to use the same directors over and over again, you know, the ones who just usually recreate other stagings. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if the person doing all this rescheduling and planning of this event isn't this guy who used to work for me at the label that's not worth mentioning. He has been slowly "working" his way up at that theater and I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't make him the artistic director at some point. And that's all I'll say about THAT.
All that said, she still made the wrong decision. Whether that will ever bother her is unknown to me. I'm sure she thinks we should have just changed everything we usually do for her, but I just can't. We don't pay a lot, but one of the reasons we do is because no other cabaret show has EVER paid anyone to sing - and I think it makes all the difference in the world.
-
Good afternoon. Thank you for your kind words about my photos.
The bird in the last photo is a female phainopepla. Their call sounds like they are saying "What???" So I loved the way she tilted her head when she said it.

That's really disappointing since I have several Awards shows (Tony, Oscar) and also my nephew's appearance on American Ninja Warriors (maybe that will be on again--I hope).
Kevin, I have the 2013 Tony Awards on regular DVD, if you want that...it's not hi-def, of course, but I can easily make you a copy. :)

Not really DR Laura, those shots have done painful damage to me in the past. The drilling didn't really begin hurting too much until I was almost done. At anytime I could have said stop and give me a shot.
-
I checked checked our local paper for an update on the fires and read the following"
Fire crews are struggling to make progress against wildfires that have burned more than 35,000 acres and shrouded Southern Oregon in smoke so thick firefighters can't see to work.
-
I am not drooling.
Let us be the judge of that. ;D

George, that's so nice of you, but if you'll remember--you already made me a copy since I was in Europe when it was on! Thank you again!

LOL DR Singdaw.
-
Of course my Wednesday hiking group canceled. I went to the Y and instead of my usual beautiful view of the mountains all I saw was a white haze.
-
White haze? Welcome to my world. That's been my week on these meds.
-
Watching the 1999 version of "Midsummer Night's Dream" with Kevin Kline, Michele Pfeiffer, et al. I enjoyed it when I saw it at the movie theater. Now, it's a little magical on TV, but I love the Italian opera in the background. And Stanley Tucci makes for a creepy Puck.
I am enjoying it much more than the Peter Brook version with Diana Rigg, which was just awful, as I recall.

LOL. A different kind of haze though it is getting me down. I'm kind of dragging my feet here.

I just got back from a swim meet. AT 7 my niece is turning into such an amazing swimmer. They put her in the first heat of all three of her races. She got 2nd place in her relay, and 2nd place in her back stroke. That is really the best she could have possibly done in each race because she was racing against the winter swimmers. She got 4th place in butterfly ( in the first heat against the fastest swimmers and she only learned butterfly a month ago).

Spoo!! Evidently, I didn't. How soon I forget. ::)

Well, I must be going to rehearsal. We're going to start blocking the scenes where I'm police officer Kershaw.
Be back later!
-
DR Jennifer congratulations to your niece.

Speaking of Tonys, 2012 Tony winner James Corden is the writer of the video for this week's Billboard #2 song.

Corden has always been a bit wild in his humor.

Thanks for that comment on the Christine Quinn parody video, George!

My photoshop program is working so slowly that it is taking forever to upload some images I need. And I'm falling asleep waiting for them.

Thankfully, I have "A Place in the Sun" to listen to.

::)
Has that photo been flipped, or is the tattoo inked backwards?
-
Jane, that photo is depressing. Looks like it was taken from the inside of a barbecue pit.
I read a barbecue at a winery was canceled. I can't imagine going anywhere near a barbecue right now.
Why, is it still very hot down there?

Sorry, I can't like One Direction.
-
I guess I should fix this.
-
We I am closer than I think.
-
Jennifer, congratulations to your niece on her swimming.
-
Okay, one more for the record.
-
Page Six!
-
G'night!
-
I just read that "George Zimmerman was stopped for speeding."
There were no witnesses, in fact the only way anyone knew was that the policeman was found shot dead on the highway.
-
I can't get a flight to Washington - no seats on the flights I like - I could do Jet Blue but that's a bunch of connecting flights that will drive me bonkers. And I could get seats on certain first class flights, but not at the usual rate I get them for - it's like almost double.
-
Comped five more tracks, about which more in the notes.
-
Well hopefully the dog days of the end of July will be at an end at midnight.

Sorry, I can't like One Direction.
The only One Direction song that I like is "What Makes You Beautiful," but I only like the music video that features the cast of "Anything Goes (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_PX_LCotTc)."
-
It's really a lot better than One Direction's own original music video. That's actually quite boring, visually...to me, at least.
