Well, you've read the notes, the notes were final and finessed, and now it is time for you to post until the finessed cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: OD!
-
Is that the shortest word of the day ever?
-
Good morning, all!
BK, I think it's great news that Kritzerland is ahead. Congratulations!
We're being picked up at 10:00 to ride to the studio. We're at this huge concert hall, The Helix, where we recorded last year, on the campus of the College of the City of Dublin, I believe. It's about 20 minutes from Stephens Green.
Today, I hope we can pick up the chart we lost last night, but it's a full day with lots of people in and out.
First, coffee and some breakfast!
-
Topic of the Day: not really a fan of Elvis. No "favorites" at all.
The closest "like" would be the character of Conrad Birdie. ;)
-
After my dad's birthday yesterday, I went to a friend's house, Brian, to read through a play called, "American Roulette." It's a play that's told mostly through monologues (it's "Bogosian"...in the style of Eric Bogosian) about a shooting in a high school and the aftermath. Brian is going to direct it.
-
A friend of his wrote it and they did a production in college just 10 days before the shootings at Columbine High School. AND Brian actually went to Columbine High School, so it's very personal to him. The play was originally not based on any specific high school shooting incident but has been updated since that first production and has been informed by similar incidents.
-
This week is going to be very, very busy. Not only will I have rehearsals every night, but Wednesday is the cut-off for invoicing at work and I won't have the evenings to stay late if I need to. Also, my sister, niece and sister's boyfriend are all going to Canada tomorrow and I have to feed their cats until they get back on Thursday. AND my sister's cats NEED to be fed twice a day! Fortunately for their first feeding, I can feed them at my lunch time and feed them again after rehearsal. I will just have less time for net-surfing when I get home.
-
Good morning, all!
BK, I think it's great news that Kritzerland is ahead. Congratulations!
Very good news, BK!
-
And on that note (E-flat), I must go to bed. I'm supposed to meet a friend for lunch today and since it'll be earlier than my usual lunch time, I need to get to work earlier than my usual time, so I must get to be earlier than my usual time. ;)
Good night, all!
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
My, DR George, what a big BRAIN you have! :)
-
I certainly do hope that bk will post a sneak preview track from SB's album!
-
bk, it sounds like you need a full-time calendar wrangler! :)

DR Ginny, my condolences on the loss of your uncle.
I am very pleased Richard continues to improve.
-
Until tonight I have been sleeping better with less time on the computer and more activity. I have also been eating better and blew that today. Now I'm paying for it.

-
DR Vixmom you look beautiful.
-
good morning to all
-
i never really got Elvis' popularity.
BUT
I do like his In The Ghetto
-
Good morning, all.
Continued recording vibes for Elmore.
Continued health vibes for Elmore and Richard.
Monday vibes for all.

TOD:
Elvis movies:
Viva Las Vegas
Jailhouse Rock
Songs:
Just about anything, but especially Suspicious Minds, Rubbernecking, Burning Love and Can't Help Falling in Love.
-
Good morning, all.
Oy! (Nothing terrible, just yer typical waking up Oy!)
-
In an hour I must shower and dress and corral Mikey the cat into his carrier for his trip to the vet for annual vaccinations.
-
That in itself is deserving of an Oy!
-
:)
-
Maybe another short word of the day can by Oy!
Maybe it can be a noun. I sometimes feel that Oy! should be the name of an award statuette, like an Oscar, only for different things.
-
Good morning.
Happy & Healthy week ahead.
;)
-
Maybe Oy! can be adopted to be used like a Wilhelm Scream, and BK could drop one somewhere into the mix of each album.
-
Oy! That took us to Page Two!
-
TOD: I always liked "Follow That Dream" -- cute movie (Arthur O'Connell is wonderful, and it was before Elvis became "ELVIS")
-
:)
-
TOD
Not so much an Elvis fanatic, but I fondly recall seeing some of the '60s movies at drive-ins as a kid. I remember being especially enchanted by BLUE HAWAII, but that was as much for the setting as anything. I did acquire several on DVD that I haven't watched yet: LOVE ME TENDER, FLAMING STAR, KING CREOLE, WORLD'S FAIR and VIVA LAS VEGAS, each of which I thought I'd enjoy for specific reasons of genre or setting, so when I get to these I'll start with LOVE ME TENDER.
While I never collected his records like the true collector would, I did bring home a nice stack of LPs found at a couple of yard sales or estate sales. Several are original jacket and label soundtracks and others would be early reprints (such as when the original RCA Living Stereo banner went to small lettering), all in great condition.
-
Monday - it is a day for banking and shopping. And I finally got all of the set decoration that I had taken to the theater for THE DROWSY CHAPERONE and brought back on Saturday night put away......
-
Except for the portable record player....which goes out on the storage room shelf today.
-
We saw LOVE ME TENDER at the drive in - when I was about 5 years old.....and I remember that there was a LINE of cars trying to get in....and that we had to drive around a LOT looking for a parking space....and what I remember most is the end with Elvis singing the title song in the sky....
-
Favorite Elvis movies:
I like most of them, but I will say....
Blue Hawaii
Paradise Hawaiian Style
Clambake
Speedway
Viva Las Vegas
It Happened At the World's Fair
Follow That Dream
Wild In The Country
-
I always thought it would have been interesting if Elvis had been in the first movie he tested for.....playing Jimmy in Hal Wallis' production of THE RAINMAKER with Burt Lancaster and Katharine Hepburn.....
-
More cow bell.
-
Hello Everyone:
I just Loved Elvis. I thought he was the most attractive man ever.
Anything I read about him said he was such a nice guy. He hated being in all those girlie movies. He wanted to be take seriously as an actor. In Change Of Habit he played a somewhat dramatic role with Mary Tyler Moore. I don't think acting was his great talent.
His talent was his his gospel songs. Of all of his songs he won 3 grammys for gospel songs only:
That was his talent.
-
TOD Cont:
His three grammy songs were:
How Great Thou Art
He Touched Me
How Great Thou Art (Live Memphis Album)
Here is a direct quote from Elvis:
"I believe in the Bible" I believe that all good things come from God. I don't believe I'd sing the way do if God hadn't wanted me to".
-
TOD cont:
As far as his movies I did enjoy Change of Heart and Kissin Cousins!
-
TOD:
IT HAPPENED AT THE WORLD'S FAIR...only because I'm in it.

Middle of page 2 FOLLOW THAT DREAM lying on the beach dance (well, Elvis does move a little in his lying down position)

Great timing that that radio was playing the title song
-
I must admit that I kind of enjoyed CLAMBAKE, which I saw on a double bill with WITH SIX YOU GET EGGROLL
-
DR Druxy,
How interesting that you were in "It Happened at the World's Fair". What part did you play?
-
TOD: Huge Elvis fan...of his music, not his films (except for the music in them), though I saw most of them and have a lot of the albums from them.
Fav films of Elvis:
Jailhouse Rock
Blue Hawaii
Follow That Dream
Songs (really too many to mention, but I especially like the earlier stuff):
Don't Be Cruel
Wear My Ring (around your neck)
Stuck On You
I Got Stung
Lonesome Cowboy
Teddy Bear
Fame & Fortune
Little Sister
Paralyzed
All Shook Up
Trouble
Treat Me Nice
Baby, I Don't Care
Follow That Dream

In an hour I must shower and dress and corral Mikey the cat into his carrier for his trip to the vet for annual vaccinations.
Good luck with that.

Thank you, DR Laura.
Mission accomplished. His one weakness has been his teeth, and he needs two more extractions which will be done next week.

Oy! (Yes, another Oy! And why not, I ask you? Why the hell not?)
So now I suppose we're going to have to examine every frame for the photographic evidence? :)
-
Elvis songs.....well...all but the religious stuff which was over produced and over the top vocally...MOST OF THE TIME.....
I also forgot LOVING YOU which contained a LOT of his early music and some great color and a sweet performance by Lizbeth Scott....
-
I have found DR DRUXY in IT HAPPENED AT THE WORLD'S FAIR....it is not difficult to see him.... He learned the extra's secret....always stand near the STAR.

I did that in a horse flick called "Sylvester," starring Richard Farnsworth. Too bad the movie bombed.
-
Thank you, DR Jrand62. I'll be checking out WORLD'S FAIR.
-
Hi everyone. Summer is coming to an end, and what a crazy summer it has been.

Welcome back. You've been missed.
-
Monday afternoon greetings! Richard and I both slept late this morning, making up for all the sleep we lost last week. He has made his 2 follow-up doctor's appointments and I'm getting my AAUW act back together.
-
I'm up after a terrible nigh's sleep. Finally fell asleep at one-thirty but woke up an hour later, fell back asleep around four-thirty and slept on and off until nine.
-
I remember buying the 45 of Heartbreak Hotel at Daylight Market back when it came out. I had most of those early 45s and EPs and liked them quite a bit.

Page 3!

DR Druxy,
How interesting that you were in "It Happened at the World's Fair". What part did you play?
I was an extra...my first "professional" job. I got paid $10 + a box lunch.
I am very visible (twice) in the scene where little Kurt Russell kicks Elvis in the shins.

Oy! (Yes, another Oy! And why not, I ask you? Why the hell not?)
So now I suppose we're going to have to examine every frame for the photographic evidence? :)
No need. If you get a copy of my 2nd memoir (LIFE, LIBERTY & THE PURSUIT OF HOLLYWOOD), which will be out in October or November, there is a photo of the scene with Elvis, Kurt and me.
-
My, DR George, what a big BRAIN you have! :)
Why, thank you, David! ;)
-
I think I'll go have a bite to eat in a little while, then jog after the work session - I'm too zonked right now to do anything strenuous.

Yes it does DR SINGDAW.

Received a lovely card from Dublin today.
As DR Elmore would say, "Moi aussi!"
-
Apparently DR JRand62 left out the second rule of extras.
Stand close to the star, but also WEAR A BRIGHT RED SHIRT. ;D
-
LOL DR GINNY
-
DR DRUXY has some great hair going on there, too!

FWIW, I did not receive a card from Dublin today.

Nothing to report. School starts in a week, In the Heights is going great. DD is happy. Been play ketchup with life the last week or so, trying to exercise again as much as possible. Also trying to really begin "anew" with new habits, etc. So far, that's the most difficult

We got back to the Club around 7:00, and seven of us staying here and our Lord Henry, John Molloy, went out for dinner and drinks. Jason and Kim had Rob Berman in tears from laughing so much. They seem to be on a mission to upstage each other on the mikes, and it's all quite funny. Today we finished up our tenor Eamonn and trio of couturier ladies - Mary, Aine, and Chrissy - and tomorrow morning is John Molloy's last session. My heart breaks saying goodbye to each of them.
So, this morning, we got all of the various "Touch of Your Hand" numbers in the score: the performance duet, the ladies' trio, and Sidonie's reprise. Jason and Kim did their duet "Something Had To Happen" and we finally read down the Exit Music to check it for errors.
In the afternoon session we got the Act One and Act Two Finales, some underscoring, and the big Wardrobe Scene where the exiled Russian princess Stephanie is decked out in her mother's royal finery to land the leading man at the Cafe Russe. Russell Bennett quotes Russian music right and left, ending with the national anthem, ending in the Russian national anthem. It's a great Cinderella moment. We also recorded the two songs in the score that are so poor they were cut to shreds before the Broadway Opening. We're giving them complete to the public.
Now, to the postcards. I only sent a few to friends whose address is on this laptop, and I make apologies to any of you who did not get one. I simply didn't have your address with me.
-
Just letting everyone know, we're updating the board software today (this will happen from time to time) - if something doesn't go right we may be down for a few minutes, but if all goes according to Hoyle we shouldn't be down at all. Also, my nervousness about it is that our settings and preferences may change, but if that happens our web host has made a complete backup of the board as it is right now, so they'd be able to immediately go in and get everything back the way it was.

I wish I looked that good today.
BTW: In the bottom picture; the guy with the glasses on the extreme left (facing me)....I didn't know him then, but about a year later, I cast him as "Brick" when I directed a local production of CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF.

DR Druxy,
I saw the pics of you in the movie with Elvis. AWESOME! It must have been exciting to stand so close to Elvis!
Did you get to talk to him?
By the way DR Druxy you looked quite handsome!
Yes, I did chat with him for a couple of minutes. Then, Colonel Parker told the A.D. to tell me that I wasn't supposed to talk to Elvis.
:'(
-
Well, Col. Parker can't take that away from you.
-
Had a short, fun, and effortless work session with John Boswell - the best.
-
Really? No posts in an hour? Really? Page four? Really?
-
Finished two-thirds of the new set of liner notes. I still have about four paragraphs to go but at least they're pretty far along and I can get them finished tonight and then do the next set tomorrow.
-
Good evening!
-
TOD: I'm afraid I'm not much of an Elvis fan. As a matter of fact, I don't think I've seen one of his movies.
-
DR elmore--I'm glad you're having such a good time!
-
The truth can now be told: DR Druxy has crossed from right to left, and back again, on my plasma.
-
And the movie looks pretty good. I'm afraid I don't know Seattle, never got that far up the coast, but it must be invaluable for people who know it and especially those who were there in the early '60s.
-
I need to watch something good. I don't quite feel like an Elvis movie tonight, so what shall it be?
Oh! THE DISAPPEARANCE. Which I never saw, so I think that's the ticket for tonight. Yes indeed.
-
I need to watch something good.
I'm sure DR MBarnum can come up with a suggestion.

Back from a three-mile jog. Packaging approved on our next release (presuming the master is fine). Also did an interview with an author writing a book on Cy Coleman.

Well, I'm off. I first have to get something to eat, then I'll have rehearsal, then I have to feed my sister's cats and then I have to feed her boyfriend's cat...THEN I get to go home. And that is what the rest of my week will look like. :P

Until later!

Well, I am here to tell you (even though BK has already done it) that THE DISAPPEARANCE is one incredible film. Even for the amazing 1970s, I can hardly believe it got made, it's so unusual and -- yes, very moodily moody. But it then proceeded to get well mutilated, so we are extremely fortunate to have it (and Mr. Cooper) with us now.
I'm ashamed to say I've lived in these here parts for 24 years and haven't yet crossed the border to visit Montreal (hi, DR Jennifer - and DR Mike, I believe?) and the surrounding area in Quebec. This must be rectified. The vistas in this movie are very special, almost mid-winter Scandinavian in look and feel, and because nothing takes place in the city, it's a presence "over there" that belies the stark coldness of where most of the action takes place. I just spent a few minutes on Bing Maps looking at the "Birds Eye" views of that apartment complex and the surrounding area. Amazing stuff.
But what a movie. This is one of those you have to experience the first time knowing nothing, and then you find out that subsequent viewings are going to be extremely rewarding.
I feel like I should know more of Stuart Cooper's stuff, but I apparently don't. Love the all-too-brief interview. And nice setting, BK!
-
Vibes for Singdaw. I hope plenty of visits are planned.
-
I really need to check in more often. DR Ginny, I just finally caught up enough to read about Richard and his stents. Vibes that his recovery continues smoothly
-
DR Singdaw, be thankful that there is Skype and facetime and all those apps so you can actually see each other and communicate. Hopefully the time apart will pass quickly
-
Happy belated birthday to Jon and bro

I think the author is at least a year away on the Coleman book.

Sandy mixes are on Dropbox - can't share any of those as the levels are very low for the mastering guy so he can do his thing. But I did get one song to post in the notes at a normal volume level so stay tuned. Sandy has heard them and tells me she's absolutely thrilled with them and they way she sounds.

Finished the second set of liner notes, the notes themselves have been approved and are now to the designer, and so later I'll probably start the third of the four sets I'm trying to get done.

looking forward to hearing Sandy
