Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of the virus of Cyrus, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - the cows are watching in horror as the young 'uns are doing their version of MOOley Cyrus's pathetic number.

And the word of the day is: NOCUOUS!

And a very happy birthday to former dear reader Jose S Piano, who does love to take his very long absences - what has it been, a year?

Good morning, all.
It's the first day of school here and traffic was horrible, as was to be expected. A slight rain only made matter worse as the roads became slick.

Happy birthday, JRand!

I haven't watched DIARY OF ANNE FRANK in a long time, but what I remember thinking the last time I did is that it was just a little too "Hollywood-y" to be as effective as it should have been.

bk - just so you know - I appear to be permanently off the Kritzerland e-blast list.
For whatever reason, singdaw, your e-mails are bouncing from Kritzerland. The best I can do is take you off the list and put you back on - I don't know why it does it. PM me your e-mail address again and I'll do it.

Here's the blurb for the new release:
Kritzerland is proud to present a 2-CD set for a one CD-price – the first complete release of:
POLTERGEIST II: THE OTHER SIDE
Music Composed and Conducted by Jerry Goldsmith
“THEY’RE BACK…”
In 1982, Steven Spielberg gave the movie world a one-two punch – Poltergeist, which he co-wrote and produced, and a little movie called E.T. Poltergeist delighted audiences and critics – it was the best kind of horror film: a carnival fun ride, a rollercoaster that could have you laughing out loud one minute and screaming in terror the next, all with a shiver-inducing Twilight Zone kind of creepiness.
Since sequels were becoming the norm and were big business, it was not much of a surprise when Poltergeist II: The Other Side went before the cameras – the only surprise was that it took four years to do so. Back were the lovable and endearing Freling family and the actors who played them (Craig T. Nelson, Jobeth Williams, Oliver Robins and Heather O’Rourke), and Zelda Rubinstein as the psychic. In the director’s chair this time was Brian Gibson, and the writers were Michael Grais and Mark Victor who, with Spielberg, had written the original Poltergeist.
While the film wasn’t the success of its predecessor, it did make money and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. The reviews were middling at the time because there was disappointment (as there usually is with sequels of any kind) that it didn’t live up to the first film. But viewed years later without that baggage, the film does have its pleasures, with wonderful performances by the leads, and a truly one-off and incredibly creepy performance by Julian Beck, the kind of performance that induces nightmares. But what takes the film to a whole other level is the same thing that took Poltergeist to a whole other level – the magnificent score by Jerry Goldsmith.
Goldsmith’s score for Poltergeist had been nominated for an Academy Award (losing to the other Spielberg film, E.T.). But rather than just rehash that score, he chose to just use the “Carol Anne” theme and a few other bits and pieces from the first film, and a lot of new material. Goldsmith uses his usual orchestral forces with some electronics and choir mixed in to good effect. The “Carol Anne” theme occurs every now and then and is, of course, one of the most memorable and beautiful themes he ever wrote. The music for Poltergeist II is ethereal, majestic, suspenseful, heart pounding, and tender. It is also its own distinct thing – it’s not Poltergeist because the film is not just a rehash of the first film.
For this first time ever complete release of Poltergeist II: The Other Side, we have gone back to the original three-track mixdowns as prepared by Jerry Goldsmith. All cues are present and accounted for. Furthermore, we have some bonus tracks – two cues that were on the previous CDs with choir, as they were recorded, were played in the film without the choir and we’ve included those film versions. Also, the cue “Late Call” had a toy phone sound effect on the first release, that wasn’t included on the second, but was on the third – we include it in our bonus section, just for completeness sake, and there are several other nice bonus tracks, including an alternate version of one of the new cues making its first appearance on this CD.
It is a pleasure to release this wonderful Goldsmith score from one of his most fertile periods, complete and in beautiful sound. There was no one like Jerry Goldsmith – he was a film music force like no other. He could do anything – romance, comedy, drama, horror, sci-fi, thriller, mystery – his music has made great films greater and mediocre films tolerable. He understood film music and its purpose as well as any film composer who ever lived.
POLTERGEIST II: THE OTHER SIDE is limited to 1500 copies only and the 2-CD set is priced at $19.98, plus shipping.
CD will ship the second week of October, but preorders placed at Kritzerland usually ship one to five weeks early (we’ve been averaging four weeks). To place an order, see the cover, or hear audio samples, just visit www.kritzerland.com.

Good Morning Everyone:
I also watch the MTV Music Show. I totally agree BK, Miley Cyrus was so embarassing to watch.
No wonder our Society is going to hell!
What a pathetic Role Model!
However as far as role models go, I always told my son that you don't idolize someone just because they are celebrities. You should look up to your family for someone to emulate!
-
I would hope that Billy Ray (Her Dad) would give her a good talking to. He should have been totally embarassed for her and his family.
-
Robin Thicke seemed to race to get a photo taken with his wife, after getting offstage after that number.
-
Also Robin Thicke should know better and be embarassed! I wonder what his Dad (Alan Thicke) of Growing Pains feels about this!
-
The Times (in their review of last might's show) is suggesting that Robin Thicke was an unwitting participant in that strange twerking dance.

DR Charles Pogue,
I so agree regarding Miley Cirus. All that music porn takes away all her questionable talent and focuses on the smut!
I think there are too many mediocre singers today. Especially the woman. I think the best in Pop music today are Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Pink, and Christina Aguilara. They truly have great voices!
-
Why can't singers today, just sing!. Why all the background junk?

DR elmore3003 - the photos you have posted over on That Other Site from your Dublin sessions are infectiously joyful. I especially love the great number of them where you are sincerely smiling. What a great pick-me-up! Thanks. :)

The first movie I ever saw in a Drive in was GUNS OF NAVARONE.
My other faves: THE LONGEST DAY, THE DIRTY DOZEN, THE GREAT ESCAPE
And on the show front, suffice to say, the entire cast is ready to strangle the director. Oy. He's been directing college kids so long, he's forgotten how to work with professionals. Nuff said. We'll muddle on, and try to avoid director-cide.

I'm up again. Got everything announced, went back to bed and slept for three more hours so I think I got just about eight hours total. Re Miley Cyrus: You are all talking about her. It is on the radio news. It is all over the innerwebs. Just what she wanted.

Ah, the value of a good education. Perhaps this is what Ms. Cyrus had in mind when she crafted her performance last night:

Had a ham and swiss on rye - have never had that kind of sandwich in a restaurant and it was great. Had a small onion rings, too, just because I felt like it. And it's so hot out that running in the early evening will be much nicer.
-
If Miley Cyrus wanted all that bad publicity she got it - it won't mean anything to her because she has no spine and not a care in the world how kids might imitate what she was doing. She's reprehensible and so is the team she works with.
-
And I have to say if she'd done this kind of thing even thirty years ago her career would have been over.
-
She's reprehensible and so is the team she works with.
And so is the hores she rode in on! :)

Monday afternoon greetings! Richard and I were at his cardiologist's office at 8am for his follow-up appointment. We went from there to Subway for breakfast before Clare's memorial service at 10:30. From her days at the local Miami campus there was only one faculty member in attendance and one administrator (me). Clare's son was pleased to see his 5th grade teacher (Richard) and her older daughter looks just like Clare did when I met her 40 years ago.
Came home, changed out of my dress-up clothes, and went to pick up Mom for an appointment with another doctor who told her there's nothing, short of surgery, to do for her arthritic hip. We did a little shopping and I helped her with some paperwork.
I am exhausted.

Lethargic. Walking is an effort. I feel like I'm walking with charley horses in both calves and it's painful and awkward. I also occasionally have a bad time with balance if I move about without my cane.

It's the dreaded page four.

BK, what have been the fastest CDs to sell out? Have any sold out on the same day released?
-
I went to a visitation for a friends mother and step dad this afternoon. Their house was so air tight that when a fire started in the kitchen it sucked all the oxygen out of the house and they died. From the outside of the house you couldn't even tell there was a fire because the fire burned itself out. I didn't realize for a couple days that it was Nathan's mom. He found them and is just lost. I feel so bad for him. The firefighters were able to revive the dog. Not sure who has her. His mom was an elementary music teacher and the table full of letters from the kids she taught really teared me up. So sad
-
The Westboro Baptists were here today. I swear when I drove by I saw a sign that said "You Eat Your Children" I'm not sure who had it - the Westboros or the anti protest, but it made me laugh
-
DR Vixmom, I watch The Newsroom and really like it
-
We are going to have 100+ degree heat indices for at least the next week. I did part of the lawn yesterday and will likely do part of it tonight. The dew point is in the upper 70s so it's really humid.
-
We've had several sell outs in less than twenty-four hours - can't remember which they were, but it was a few years ago when things were different. Very little sells out the same day any more - in fact, I can't think of a single title that has in the last year or two. Something like The Missouri Breaks two years ago would have, but it took two days, same with Breakheart Pass.

Well, this is funny...Kelly Clarkson Slams VMA Performers as "Pitchy Strippers" (http://xfinity.comcast.net/articles/entertainment-eonline/20130826/b452366/).
Looks like Kelly Clarkson wasn't impressed by the performers at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards.
The 31-year-old singer took to Twitter Monday morning to share her thoughts on a few of the eyebrow-raising performances that went down last night at Brooklyn's Barclays Center—and it's safe to say the American Idol beauty didn't hold back.
"Just saw a couple performances from the VMA's last night. 2 words....#pitchystrippers," she posted (https://twitter.com/kelly_clarkson/status/372021185287966720)on her social media page.
Tell us how you really feel, Kelly.
And then it goes on from there.

The Westboro Baptists were here today. I swear when I drove by I saw a sign that said "You Eat Your Children" I'm not sure who had it - the Westboros or the anti protest, but it made me laugh
Why did this couple "rate" a protest from those strange people?
Totally unrelated story, sorry about that. The crazies came to town because of a gay teacher who was appointed to our human rights commission. There were counter protests and a "peace" rally, actually it was a pretty cool response.
-
DR Cillaliz, condolences to Nathan. It's one thing to go to the kind of service we attended today - someone who celebrated her 90th birthday. The visitation you attended entirely different.
-
They also protested near one of the high schools, so the high school had a drum line and activities inside the school and outside on the other side of the school. The media focused their coverage on the counter protests and barely even showed the crazies. And there was a motorcycle group with flags on the back of their cycles who kept going past the crazies so you couldn't see their signs very well. They were definitely notified they aren't welcome here
-
Happy Birthday to DR JRand63!

Happy Birthday to DR Jose!

Yes it is. I didn't know anyone but the son. He's a Fed. Probation officer and I've worked with him for years. He's a wonderful person. We've had a couple run ins, but nothing very big. I really like him and feel so bad. I can't imagine what he and his brother are going through
-
Elmore, how are you feeling today?
Lethargic. Walking is an effort. I feel like I'm walking with charley horses in both calves and it's painful and awkward. I also occasionally have a bad time with balance if I move about without my cane.
:(
BE BETTER VIBES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is the first day that I have taken no meds for the problem. I may take the Tylenol before I go to bed.
-
The fire department was able to use their pet oxygen mask and cpr to revive the dog. There must have been some oxygen somewhere for her to survive.

Woo and Hoo!!! Fabulous to not need pain meds

One more!

Six!

I actually liked "Poltergeist II" better than the first movie, but then again, my tastes are all over the board.
Looking forward to the new and improved version of the CD, and I'm not surprised that the disc is selling so briskly. "Jerry Goldsmith" is a name that makes a lot of film score buffs drool. I'm one of them.

Not that I like them protesting the teacher but I'm glad they weren't at the funeral.

I like this!!! I hate that the media usually gives them too much attention.

There would have been less smoke down where the dog was, still it is amazing the dog survived.

I was about to ask the same!

She might be related to, or a friend of Sing Song's husband, since she's from Minneapolis.
I grew up in a suburb of Minneapolis.

Makes sense...hopefully, the mystery will be solved soonly. :)

DR elmore I have just now caught up on the rest of your Dublin posts. I've been sick on pain meds even with food. It always lasts the 4 hours the meds are supposed to keep me feeling better. I have great sympathy for you as I was sick in the privacy of my bathroom, not in a public place. I have a great fear of that happening. I hope you felt better after you threw up and were ok on the plane. I have been sick on many a plane. In fact the first thing I do when I sit down is check that I have a bag in the pocket of the seat, if not the flight attendant is informed of the importance of finding one for me.

DR elmore,

Well, I must be off. Tonight is our last rehearsal before our two preview audience rehearsals. I'd better get it all right tonight. Wish me luck!
Be back later!

Welcome, New DR Robin! So glad you jumped in and joined us.

DR Cilla we went to a bar in Jackson with Bryan and Kate that served old fashioned style mixed drinks. I told the bartender to make me something with rum and he gave me an Algonquin that was invented by the hotel. It was delicious and I thought of you. One day we shall return to their bar and I will buy you a drink and have an Algonquin. :)

It's a date. I think we had a Dorothy Parker or something she inspired when we were there

I'm playing around with air fares and hotel rates for New York. It's still up in the air, but the prices are much cheaper if I go Mon-Wednesday Nov 11-13 that if I go any time later in the week - and I have a hearing later in the week. Still have to check with the calendar at the office. It would only give me one chance to see A TIME TO KILL, but I would be able to see it. The hotel room prices are literally 100 dollars cheaper and even the air fare was cheaper. If I do that, I can take Callie to the vet Monday and pick her up with I get back. It would only be two nights boarded during the week when people are there all day long. It's looking more likely
-
The Weather Channel is showing Phoenix and the dust storm.....Stay inside DR Laura and take care!!!

And DR Kerry too!

The weather here for the upcoming week has highs of 97, 94, 92 etc....nothing under 90 Yuck

I've been waiting for it to cool off to mow the rest of the lawn (I did part of it yesterday) but it isn't going to cool off for a week, so I bit the bullet and finished it tonight. Actually wasn't that bad, but I didn't have a lot to do. Glad that's done. Whew!. I did forget to water the tomatoes....maybe in the morning
-
My apple trees are loaded with apples. It will be the first year for me to actually pick apples from the trees. I tried one tonight. It's not quite ripe yet, but actually wasn't too bad. I can't wait

Nice to see you Vixmom

Yum. Nothing quite like fresh picked fruit. Mom and Dad had to have their apple tree taken down this past week. They were shocked that the people who removed it, took every last apple from the branches (none of the fruit was any good) and put them in the compost bin. They also removed every last leaf and branch.
It seems they're going to replace it with a sour cherry tree.

Signed the contract for the barbecue book today and got it in the mail. Guess it's going to be a reality.

Watching a noir called "The Lineup." Eli Wallach is a sociopath and a mighty fine one.

Back from a long rehearsal this evening. We are ready for Rosh Hashanah!

How horrific, DR Cillaliz. Those poor men, losing their parents like that.
-
DR Cillaliz - is there a homemade apple pie in your future? :)
-
Strange to see all the photos from friends of their kids on the first day of school. It was never a big deal when I was growing up. We just went back to school and that was that.

That was a horrific story.

A most warm HHW welcome to new DR Robin Raianiemi!!!
I do not believe that she knows my DH. Perhaps she found us through one of the film music forums, judging by her first post.

Sorry to have just missed DR Jeanne.

And after all, fiddle-dee-dee,... Tomorrow is another day!

But Page 8 isn't too shabby.

Congratulations DR John G on your book contract. How exciting for you!
-
Thanks for the condolences, Kate, Vixmom, Singdaw and anyone I forgot.

Thank you DR JEANNE and DR VIXMOM.....

Yes, I'm thinking that I will make a homemade apple pie in the near future. Haven't made one from scratch before, so that will be fun

Welcome, to new DR Robin!!

ChasSmith, I have a few photos with you in mind.

For my evening, I watched the US version of THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO. Very interesting. I feel like we got a little less good detail than we do in the original (extended) version. This seemed a little rushed sometimes. I just checked and it's 20 minutes shorter. So there we are.
Not that it's bad. Like BK said, it just really didn't have to be made. Except I suppose for an American audience to watch and get something out of this material, it really did have to be made. The population at large isn't going to dig into a foreign film with (very demanding, in this case) subtitles or dubbed English. And then there are the zillions of dollars to be made. We mustn't forget that part.
I'm glad to have both here to watch, but the originals are where it's at and I will love returning to them.
-
I need to head off to bed.
-
Another long day tomorrow.
-
And that concludes the bacon portion of this evening's performance.
O. M. G.
I shall be seeing ... you know what ... in my dreams tonight.
-
ChasSmith, what did you think of the title sequence of the movie? All that Laytex or garbage bags or whatever it is?
-
Nine!
-
Oh, good question. I'll actually have to watch the titles again, for lack of paying close attention right there.
-
With that, good night.
-
Welcome to new dear reader Robin!
-
Had a fun rehearsal and then finally did a three-mile jog at eight o'clock. I guess I'll have some popcorn for my evening repast.
-
I guess this director was trying to make a "statement":
Wow, that looks like Miley Cyrus' number from last night's awards show.

And to DR JoseSPiano, wherever in the HELL he is!
He may still be on the New York pub crawl. Why are you not there?
-
Happy Birthday, DR Jrand!
Welcome to the 63 club.

Hey, TCB, did you know that Olympia Little Theater has posted pictures of Love, Loss and What I Wore (https://picasaweb.google.com/OlympiaLittleTheatre/LoveLossAndWhatIWore), with your friend Sherry O'Hare?
-
Tonight's rehearsal of "Hollywood Who Done It" went quite well. I only goobered a couple of lines. We got through the whole show with costumes! It was very muggy because it had been raining a bit and with our costumes and running around the building for some quick changes, we got pretty darned sweaty. :P But we got through it!
-
After the run-through, we went through act 2 again. W didn't have to wear costumes that time (fortunately) but I did do my sunglasses bit, which worked quite well. :)
-
For the last few nights, we'd been averaging about 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours for each runs. That includes all the stops and starts, but still it didn't seem like it would get much quicker. When we first started rehearsing and just read through the script, we got through it in about an hour.
-
Tonight, the first act was exactly 30 minutes and the second act was about 37 minutes. I was very surprised. I'm sure that we'll be able to get it down to the hour for the entire show once things tighten up when we are completely secure with it all.
-
And I just noticed...PAGE NINE!
-
Now, it's back to Page 6 to ketchup on all the posts. :)
-

Speaking of headshots, here's mine for "Hollywood Who Done It":
And yes, that's one of my costumes. :D
-
HOWEVER, the glasses that I'm wearing are my old glasses. They're a little fancier than my current glasses, with no frames and all. But last night, I dropped the darned glasses and broke. I'm sure that they're completely unfixable...it's not just a screw loose. :( So, I'll be wearing my regular glasses. It was nice to have a back-up pair. When I had those (before I got my current pair), I had actually given my previous pair to a friend who needed glasses and he actually had almost the same prescription, but he moved to Chicago and took them with him. Oh, well.
-
Signed the contract for the barbecue book today and got it in the mail. Guess it's going to be a reality.
John, congrats on the officiality of it! :D

Like the ubiquitous standing ovation in theater nowadays, everything has to be an "event." ::)
