Well, you've read the notes, the notes were exhausted, and now it is time for you to post until the exhausted cows come home.

Regarding On the Twentieth Century...  somewhere I had read that Prince kept nagging Kahn that she wasn't giving a full performance. Finally, at one performance, she went full out - singing, acting, getting all the laughs. Hal came back to her after the performance and said something to the effect of - You got it, that was it, don't change a thing! To which she replied, Surely you don't expect me to to that 8 times a week?

I agree with DR George - hoping that bk will post some video from yesterday's shows. Congratulations to the entire company on two very successful shows!

I had this really weird dream.... Somehow I was working for Dick van Dyke. He was calling Mary Tyler Moore, who was on vacation in Hawaii, but he didn't want to be alone with her on the phone. So he asked me to get on the phone, too. (In the dream it made sense because we were all going to be working together on something). She wasn't initially too warm to my joining them, but I made small talk about Hawaii and kept things moving along. Bizarre!

TOD:

I will be traveling for most of the day. Driving an hour to the airport and then spending two hours or so checking in and going through security. Miami International is one of the busiest airports in the USA and has the only direct/non stop flight this time of year that I need.

I am flying up to Montreal to spend the Jewish New Year with my family. This is strange since we are Roman Catholic.

I am taking my beloved Kismet to spend the week at Pet Hotel where he will sleep and play with many other dogs and on his final day be treated to spa treatment (Shampoo, manicure, teeth brushing, ear cleaning and anal gland cleaning) I've experienced everything except the last item on the list so I know what my dog will enjoy everything.

Now of course I'm not really Roman Catholic, but I wanted people to say Whaaaat??!!

If you can remember can you ask Bob Gitt if he is working on a Blu Ray release of the original Lost Horizon. I would love to see if the last technologies can improve even more on all the wonderful work he has done on the film.

I am intrigued by a quote ad in yesterday's New York Times Book Review. The ad is for a new novel entitled "Alex," by Pierre LeMaitre. One of the quotes reads: ...Makes Lizbeth Salander look like Mary Poppins.     >:(

Mike: Interesting Rashamon take on "20th Century." Kahn's version of what happened and Prince's. Sounds like an echo of Dean Jones' leaving "Company." Wonder what the truth actually is.

I know he tried to get the album redone with Judy Kaye, but Columbia refused. And he made sure Kaye was featured in all of the photos for the vocal score.

I did make it to the post box and back. It was an ordeal but it had to be done.  When I got down to my ground floor and out the door, I had to sit down on a step to ease the pain.  Then I got across the street and mailed the payments. Standing at the postbox and waiting for the light was intense, so once I got back to my side of the street, I sat down again to let things ease up on my legs.

The worst part was dealing with the sympathetic neighbors; I don't want to stand on two painful legs and explain the situation, then hear their offers of help or suggestions.  I know they mean well, and I do appreciate their concern. Just let me get through the mess and then I can be friendly.

Our heat wave broke Saturday night.   Saturday day was unbearable, but I went to our annual Artsplash (109 artists, musicians, great food vendors etc).   I had a nice time until I practically had a heat stroke.  Well it wasn't that bad, but it was starting to make me feel ill....that's when I know I have to cool off.

I fell back asleep around five-thirty, I guess, and slept until Barry Pearl called at ten-thirty - so I guess I got around seven hours of sleep somehow.  Exhausted, but I'm sure I'll doze off at some point.  It is already 77 in the house so I'd imagine it must be in the 90s outside.

At Artsplash I found these cats.  The Calico was basically like this, the middle cat was brown and darker brown striped and the one on the right was gray and white.   The artist offered to custom paint the gray one to look like Boo, so I bought them.   She painted it but it was so humid out that it didn't dry. She put them in a sack and the paint ran all over.   So she told me what paint to buy so I could touch them up and finish them.   Here is the end result.....Callie Ricky and Boo

Happy Labor Day, all!

I made it to the day off after tech hell, and other dramas.

BK, Congrats on the success of your Anniversary show!! It killed me not to be able to be there, and I am thrilled to hear that everyone rocked both shows.

TOD:  I'd like to lay around like a stalk of brocoli (or so many fish?), but I have some food to buy, laundry to do, and a week of previews to prep for. We open Saturday night.

I hope everyone will have a wondrous day!  :)

Boy, this has steadily turned into the crappiest day ever.  Good thing all I needed The Great Outdoors for was to throw a few things on the grill.  It's also a good thing I can just pull the grill underneath the overhang and let it rain.  I wonder if it's going to break any of this humidity.  Nah, probably not.

I've been on the phone for the last hour.  The first call was somewhat horrifying to me - the producer of Totally Hidden Video, a show I labored on for three long years, called me - he's done a sizzle pilot for a new hidden camera show - I'm told these things run from three to five minutes.  And he wants me to come in and do it, to put it together with an editor, with the promise of doing the show if it should sell.  I have been so out of that world now for a decade that the thought of going back into it makes me nauseous and makes me quiver.  He's willing to let me cut it here (the show would shoot in Vegas and elsewhere) but I'm just not sure how I would negotiate all of this, time-wise.  I could certainly do this sizzle reel, which would probably take a week sometime in the next two weeks, but there would be little money in it and I just don't think I want to go to that land again.  Looking at the bigger picture, while doing a series would be some money (I don't know how much this stuff pays these days, but I don't think it's even as much as I was making twenty-three years ago when I was doing Hidden Video), but we're talking long days and evenings and something that wasn't an issue back then but is now - network interference and involvement.  I just would not know how to do that full time and put out CDs and do the other stuff I need to do.  I also think I'm twenty-three years older and to commit to that kind of schedule of fourteen to eighteen-hour days - well.  I talked to my friend David Wechter, who's still in that world, and he felt like it maybe was not the right thing.  I told the producer I'd let him know tomorrow and certainly I'm very flattered to be asked - my instinct is that I will say no, that I can't move things around in time to do it.  But I'll leave the door open should it go to series.  I think he knew that me doing this sizzle reel was last-minute so I don't think he can be upset if I can't clear things.

DR John G.....do you ever get tired of eating BBQ?

I think my doing West Texas first that I have gone through the worst that I'll have to taste, which is the mesquite-smoked meat. Mesquite lingers with you a while after you eat it. Went to Austin today, where oak is used. It's cleaner and I like it a little better. So, I was getting tired of the sameness of mesquite, but the oak sort of woke me up again. And I'm raring to go.

Bruce there is a Hami FB page.  During a discussion on teachers I asked about Bill Gordon and received the following message:

....after the 1970 teachers strike Bill went to work in Chicago for the National Education Association. After a few years there he came back to LA (Woodland Hills) and worked for the California Teachers Association as a field rep and organizer until he retired. He died about ten years ago. Myself and four other teachers from Hamilton attended his memorial service. Miss him!

He was divorced from Lois and was happily remarried to a beautiful woman he met in Chicago. His last years were good ones! The two sons are successful and great kids!

I never knew exploring for poop in the yard would be so very entertaining for a four year old.  You should have heard Eleanor's excitement when she found the bear scat.

This morning she went to Keith with her "Who Pooped in the Park" book and asked him to take her out again.  This time they went on the road to find coyote poop.   Also needed, along with the book, was the tape measure to check the size of the various findings.

That reminds me, now that Eli is gone I need to sweep up the bat guano from the deck.

It's been taking forever for the HHW site to load on my computer.  I know it's not my browser/connection, etc, but it's been taking a long time for pages to load.  Anyone else having this issue?  I hate to say this, but it started when the "new" board kicked in.

By the way,  DR's before we went to dinner I read a few pages of Benjamin Kritzer.  After a few pages I was already laughing out loud.  It isn't often that I laugh out loud at a book.

So far it is hilarious!  Can't wait to read it all!!

Trying a new cocktail for the evening. It's called a Dog's Nose and it was created after a drink mentioned in Dickens' Pickwick Papers.

Mix gin, a porter-style beer, a pinch of porcini powder and freshly grated nutmeg.

Glad I'm not driving. It's really strong.

Bizarre!

A neighbor came over today and helped me move a bookcase. I spent the rest of the day unpacking books and rearranging. I've been wanting to do this for some time, but could NOT with an injured ankle. I've also been in the mood to cull. It's much easier, I find, when I'm in the mood to toss. Otherwise, things may get moved around, but don't go OUT. So I'm pooped.

DR John G. "Cull" is a much easier word to accept than "Toss".  Our library does a huge book sale every year and accepts donations throughout the year.  I haven't given them many yet, but if I was going to "cull" at least I know that the library could make some money from the books.

My next door neighbor just came over -  he has been on vacation for the past two weeks  in going through the mail his house sitter left  for him he came across a misdelivered  letter!

Thank you so very much!!  it will be put to good use  we are planning now for our next trip!!

Thank goodness.  I knew there had to be a good reason.  I hope this is the second check, not the first.  They have stopped payment on the first.  If your neighbor has been gone for two weeks, I assume this is the second check.

Was the address wrong on the envelope??

I didn't eat that much - most of the food came from Gelson's - I had a tiny bit of salmon, some really good slaw, which I'll now have to buy from Gelson's, a good corn salad and that was about it - not much at all.

Corn salad.  Yum!

DR Kate - I am sure that DR George would be more than happy to crop the photo of you to create an HHW avatar that you could use here.

I would!  Those are very nice pictures, Kate (and Singdaw)!

That would be greatly appreciated George!

Here you go...take your pick:

or

or

The easiest thing (I think) would be to save them to your computer (remembering where you saved them) and then upload them to your profile. :)

Even though they're larger than the avatar size, they'll automatically resize.  I think that they'll stay at the correct ratio and look normal...at least, I hope that they will.

I just finished watching "The Doctors Revisited: The Eighth Doctor:  Paul McGann."  I had never seen this on-off episode, nor really heard much about Paul McGann, but it was actually quite enjoyable...in a 1990s kind of way.

The problem with this whole series (and I'm sure that I've said it each time) is that the episodes were originally shot in 4:3 full-frame but for these retrospectives they've stretched out the image to fill a widescreen TV...even the non-hi def broadcast.  That's so stupid!  According to reviews on Amazon, the purchased DVDs give you the option to view the original full-frame version.  I've recorded all eight episodes, so I don't think that I'll buy the DVDs, even for the correct aspect ratio.

The weird thing is that I remember watching and recording episode seven with Sylvester McCoy, but I haven't been able to find that disc, so I just re-recorded it from OnDemand and am now going through both episodes and cutting out the commercials.  Then, I'll reburn episode seven and burn episode eight.  That's probably when I'll find my original disc...after I've reburned it. ;)

Fortunately, the discs are very cheap...only about 30¢ each.
