Wednesday morning greetings!  Last night, DR TCB asked if I'd ever considered retirement.  Well, yes, in fact I'm taking the next several days off from organizational work and devoting time to my family.  Tonight, Richard and I are taking Rob and Mary Linda out for dinner for a belated celebration of their anniversary and Rob's birthday.  Tomorrow, I'm driving to northern Indiana to meet my sister for some genealogy research.  I'll be back Friday evening and spend the weekend with Richard, watching football on Saturday and going to Lima for church on Sunday.

Yesterday, the hubby and I went to Lowe's.  We picked up paint and radiator vents and a new door handle and lock.  Also a beautiful bronze scrolled night light for our bathroom.

Soon we will be painting our interior, exterior door.  It will be a muted color called Butternut tree, by Valspar.

Then we can finally put our beautiful bronze doorknocker on that we received from my best friend and her husband several years ago for our previous house.  It has our family name on it.

I have been working (via Skype) with a very talented voice actress from Birmingham, AL, Nancy McLemore, adapting my one-woman play, CLARA BOW, into an audio drama.

We're in the home stretch now.  She's doing some pick-ups and I'm deciding where the sound effects and music cues go.

I'd forgotten how much I enjoy this process...particularly when it is going well.

Good morning, all!  I've had a whirlwind morning here: my Time Warner Cable was out so I had no phone or computer access, and when I called Verizon to pay via debit card my cell phone bill, the credit card wouldn't go through.  My neighbor Mark lent me his cellphone so I verified that my bank account hadn't been tampered with, then I rebooted the modem for the phone and computer and everything was back up and running.  Then I called Verizon and the debit card worked! All now seems right with the world.

Last night, I slept using only the flexerill and no Tylenol, which seems a good thing. It was a very restless sleep, but I survived the night, and I am feeling very groggy this morning.

I still don't know who won the mayor primary yesterday. No, DR JohnG, I would not have voted for Spitzer or Weiner if I had voted.  I only care about a person's private demons when it moves into their job territories, and both men have too much dirty laundry for me to suspect they've resoived those problems to their constituents' advantage.

I had all the typical reactions to the events of 12 years ago, including nightmares and a serious physical illness (pneumonia) and I also had a delayed reaction several years later.  Richard and I took the Circle Line cruise that circumnavigates Manhattan and at one point the narrator said, "Now, on September 10, 2001, you wouldn't have been able to see that building."  That really got to me...

I was doing a production of THE ODD COUPLE on 9/11/01.....all state employees were given the option of leaving at 2 p.m. - which I did.  The first radio reports of a plane crash into the WTC were vague - it may have been an accident.  After the second crash, one of the managers brought a tv into an office and we watched CNN.  They replayed the second plane several times.  And seeing it was so much more horrifying than just hearing about it on the radio.

We had a pick up rehearsal that night - and some people didn't come.  We seriously considered postponing the show for a week - but decided to let the show go on.  The people in the audience could decide if they wanted to come....

Our audiences were most appreciative and they all talked to us after the show and told us how grateful they were that we went on with the show.  In his curtain speech, the director asked for a moment of silence....

It was very difficult - but you do what you have to do.

I had a nice hike with my group this morning at the trails I used to hike on a regular basis.  At the end of the hike there was a beautiful dog.  As I began to walk towards the dog and his person to ask if I may pet him he charged me.  I of course immediately backed up while telling him no.  Backing up slowed him down but he was still aggressive towards me.  I felt the woman with him could have moved with more speed to leash him.  Even though she apologized I was rather angry about it and said if he attacks people he needs to be on a leash.  Apparently I was wearing clothing he didn't like, a black shirt & black hat.  She knows this about him, saw me on the trail and checked that he was ok with me.  Then why the hell didn't she immediately leash him or keep her eyes on my location!!

It's been a long day; I get tired of spending most of my day in bed.  I had a visit from my friend Ransom Bruce, who's moving to London on Sunday for a year so his partner Michael can study at LAMDA. It was a short visit, but it was nice to see him. I will send him the names and addresses of friends n London.  Then, later in the afternoon, i talked to Rob Berman, who's heading to LA tomorrow night for the Emmy Awards this weekend. He's nominated - again! - for the Kennedy Center Honors music direction. He won last year. I hope he wins again.

Kate, I do like crossword puzzles, and I play Bookworm on my computer.

I have bathed, and I will go lie down with the heating pad on my lower back, watch a bit of tv, and hopefully fall asleep soon. I'm going to try sleeping tonight with no flexerill as well as no Tylenol. We'll see.

DR Jane, Thanks for the nice comments.

Also keep reading The Paris Wife.  I just finished it last week and I really enjoyed it!

As far as the dog story.  I love dogs but do not trust any animal until I get to know it and it gets to know me.

I finished the book.  I had mixed feelings about it.  I wasn't expecting to like it at all and was pleasantly surprised to like it as much as I did.

As for the dog, unless a dog is all over me I don't pet it without asking for permission first.  I was nowhere near this dog, just walking towards it, when it charged.  I've never had that happen before in a common area where dogs are off leash.

So What did you think of

I think we're in the same temperature pattern, and on the same days, as back home, which is actually a little unusual.

At any rate, I'm going to enjoy the break into the low 80s tomorrow, and the REAL break on Friday.  That one's going to feel like autumn.

Hopefully she'll do this in the future.

Are his awards early? The Emmys I think are next weekend Sept 22nd.

My complaint was really that she didn't pay attention to her dog when it has issues about people in black.  One must stay attentive even if the dog doesn't have issues.

BEST PANCAKE HOUSE EVER.

They're pretty new around these here parts (Cincinnati), but the chain originated in Portland, OR in 1953.  It took me all day to figure out where I'd had a pancake, bacon and coffee experience as fine (and as similar) as this one.  The year was 1986, and it was the Walker Bros. Pancake House in Wilmette, IL, a place that always has a line out the door.  Well, I'm browsing the above website, and guess what.  Same damned company.

So of course I'm frantically checking for any locations in the Northeast.  There's one now in Fort Lee, NJ (just across the Geo. Washington Bridge) and one "coming in 2013" to White Plains, NY.

We had some lunch (patty melt for me), and then we ran the Ira Gershwin show - I gave lots of little notes and did some staging things that I couldn't do via Face Time, so that was fun.  It's now in good shape and surprisingly it's a really good show.  I think it will be in excellent shape for New York in October, then we'll book it here in LA early next year as well as San Francisco and maybe even London, which would be my very first trip overseas.

We used to eat at the one in Michigan, mostly on Sunday mornings when the line was a mile long to get in.  Sometimes when Keith was traveling the boys and I would go for dinner, and yes I had pancake, one the the big ones.  They had good hot chocolate too.

"The Popular Song" dance - Addams family style video - it breaks into "Popular" from WICKED around 0:50

Does this count as a Broadway song "charting" - it's on Ariana Grande's album which is #1 this week.

Yes, it's Sunday morning/afternoon lines that are the killer.  And yes, the apple pancake was it for me then.  Today I had the buckwheat pancakes.  Incredible.  And the bacon.  When this place says "thick sliced", they mean it.  Incredible bacon.

I figured since I managed 5 days without the internet, except for a brief stop in a coffee shop that was too hot to stay in, I can manage until 2:00pm tomorrow.  I'm curious if not connecting to the internet really prevents the library from removing a book.

We never had the bacon but everything we had was the best.  Craig who doesn't like pancakes likes their 49'er Flap Jacks as they are extra thin.

We were in a similar situation.  I was finally getting my shot at playing Sheridan Whiteside in THE MAN WHO CAME TO DINNER.  We were set to preview on the 13 and open on the 14.  We, also went ahead on schedule, and the artistic director gave a nice curtain speech every night about laughter being a way to combat the pain of tragedy.  The houses were small for the entire run, and even though there was laughter, it never was what we hoped.  It was tough going out and being silly when our hearts were so torn by what happened.
