Well, you've read the notes, the notes told what I did on Sunday and then some, and now it is time for you to post until the Sunday cows come home, which might be on a MOOnday.

And the word of the day is: SHIBBOLETH!

Anyone up for breakfast sausages?

TOD
I've seen so many shows over the years it is hard to choose just one but have seen Ann Hampton Callaway, Liz Callaway, Lee Lessack and Jason Graae several times over the years.
I would have to have seen Nancy LaMott and Laurie Beechman perform their cabaret shows.
-
DR Arnold Brockman and I attend the same cabaret series in Delray Beach and for the most part they have chosen top notch artist. Only one performer in my opinion had an awful show and I left at intermission.
-
Gosh, it's Monday again. Already.
-
DR Kerry - are you sure? ;D
-
Monday. Today is shopping & banking....so I shall join the festivities anon.

Good morning, all! I was so sleepy that I turned off the lights at 9:00 and slept until 5:00 this morning. At that point my body refused to go back to sleep so I tossed and turned until about 8:00 and decided that enough was enough.
I'm moving about cautiously and slowly, and in another hour I'll get ready for physical therapy.
DR George, thanks for the blow by blow Emmy Awards. I may have been apathetic but now I am also au courant!

And here's the new release:
Kritzerland is proud to present a new limited edition CD release, the first release of the complete score to:
RISING SUN
Music Composed and Conducted by Toru Takemitsu
Rising Sun, Michael Crichton’s 1992 follow up to his blockbuster novel Jurassic Park, was a detective thriller with a difference – one examining Japanese/American relations or, as Newsweek called it, “A paranoid polemic masquerading as a murder mystery.” Twentieth Century-Fox snapped up the movie rights instantly. Crichton co-wrote the screenplay with Michael Backes and the film’s director, Philip Kaufman. Cast in the two leading roles were Sean Connery and Wesley Snipes. As with the novel, critics were divided on the film, and, as with the novel, rather vehemently so. The critics who didn’t like the film really didn’t like it, but there were plenty who did. Rolling Stone critic Peter Travers found flaws but noted, “The flaws don’t cripple what is a fiercely funny, exciting and provocative detective story about the crime of corporate culture – crimes that transcend race and geography.” The Washington Post said, “A thoroughly gratifying prestige thriller, thanks to riveting suspense and two brilliant stars.” The film performed reasonably well at the box office and spent ten weeks on the top ten box office chart.
With two great star performances, and a great supporting cast, the film is sleek and looks great thanks to the brilliant cinematography of Michael Chapman. One of the smartest decisions director Kaufman made was hiring the incredible Japanese composer, Toru Takemitsu. It was a bold choice and a choice that really paid off. Takemitsu composed unique scores for some classic Japanese films, including Woman in the Dunes, Kwaidan, The Face of Another, Double Suicide, and others. In 1970 he scored director Akira Kurosawa’s film, Dodes’ku-den, turning in a score of great warmth and melody that made Kurosawa’s beguiling film even more beguiling. His second score for Kurosawa, Ran, was a true masterpiece of film scoring, a symphonic work of tremendous power and beauty. Rising Sun would be his first and only American film scoring assignment.
Takemitsu wrote a very long score for the film, but in the end several incredible cues went unused and the music that was used was occasionally truncated and moved around. A CD release of the score did not present it in the best light, with a short running time and several pieces not by Takemitsu. The general impression was that Takemitsu’s score just wasn’t that interesting. We’re hoping that this first-ever complete CD release will change that view because hearing the score as Takemitsu wrote it is an entirely different experience – an addictive, mesmerizing neo-noir tone poem of exquisite orchestral color and sounds (including wonderful use of the Ondes Martinot), with a great main theme that weaves itself in and out of the score like wisps of smoke. It is a major rediscovery and one that would hopefully put the music’s reputation firmly where it belongs – as one of the best and most interesting scores of the 1990s. The previous CD release had only about twenty-six minutes of Takemitsu’s score. This release adds over forty minutes of score cues and the score is presented as it was meant to be heard in the film.
Rising Sun is limited to 1000 copies only and is priced at $19.98, plus shipping.
CDs are in stock and will ship the day after the announcement. To place an order, see the cover, or hear audio samples, just visit www.kritzerland.com.

SHOPPING AND BANKING should be an award-winning sitcom title.
-
I immediately ordered the Rising Sun seedee.
Toru Takemitsu has been one of my favorite composers for the last three decades. His music tickles my brain in a way few other composers do. I'm very much looking forward to having this seedee in my collection.
Thanks, Bruce.
(One of my favorite film scores is Takemitsu's score for Woman in the Dunes. I'd love to hear a seedee of that music someday.)
-
Good morning, all.
CD ordered -- with only two sips of coffee in me!
-
The notes and the promise of the CD are making me want to revisit the film. I first read the book, then saw it when it came out, and have given it nary a thought since. Yes indeed, I think this calls for a revisit.
-
Good morning.
Well, I wonder if Stephen Findle might be able to get Liza to do Sunset Boulevard. I think it would be ... interesting.
I still like my idea of a color-blind casting version of Show Boat (with Mandy Patinkin performing Old Man River).
-
TOD:
I don't go to many cabaret shows, but I do recall being impressed watching Cindy Robinson in Sarasota, FL severl years ago.

This is Banned Books Week. You know what to do...
-
Stress test vibes for DR DRUXY and PT vibes for DR ELMORE.
DR DRUXY my niece and her husband were in Austin this week for some kind of convention for films and stars, etc....is that where you were?
-
I have not attended many cabaret shows....but local singer Su Ours used to to several that were enjoyable...and David Meek a local pianist also did a very nice show.
-
Shopping and something was already a play DR FJL.....I am sure you are familiar with it.....Banking can't compete with the second part of that title....
-
CD ordered.
-
Don't know exactly what you'd call a cabaret show, but I've seen Bobby Short a couple of times in a supper club situation and once saw Anthony Newley in the same and they were both swell.
-
TOD - back in the 1970s, DR Elmore produced a couple of memorable cabaret shows right here in Middletown, OH. I remember, at one of them, hearing "Coffee in a Cardboard Cup" for the first time. And being asked how many snakes I'd had to kill to make the pants I was wearing...
-
Jrand - Do I recall correctly that Zachary Spicer is an actor you know who hails from your area?
Either way, he got a nice mention in the Times, which I may have missed mention of:

Alas, I have no photos of the "snake" pants, which were really just sparkly. I guess Mike thought they looked like snakeskin...

From DR Jennifer:
Is it really that much different than her current style? Maybe she just got to be a better writer. I know she wrote these before she started writing under her real name.
To me it seemed like a mix of a romance novel with what we like about the novels under her own name (not really her own name because she changed her last name-lol).

Good luck!

I am home from physical therapy The good news is that I can once again lie on my stomach with no grisly strain on the nerves fr a lower back massage, but the bad news is that I decided to try to get home using public transportation, which involved two buses and a transfer.
That was a strain: too much walking was bad enough but making the first step from the sidewalk to the door of my building put to much pressure on my bad foot and I nearly fell twice - even with the cane - in front of my super who rode the elevator up with me to be sure I got home safely. I am home, but I'm a bit shaky at the moment.

No, I was teaching a class, "The Art of Storytelling," at The Writing Barn.
Had a great time.

I survived the stress test.
:)

Do they give you the results right away, or do they make you wait?
-
Good morning. Well, I survived the weekend in the heights. We're having fun, the reviews are good, I have a feeling the last weekend will be a ton of fun for all.
-
Today is Monday, which I guess is a ketchup day around here. Went to the bike shop and picked up my newly tuned bike. About ready to de-clutter the automobile and take it across the way to get a tire repaired. Maybe I'll have time to work on this musical that I've been writing for almost a year. (the music, anyway. The lyrics are already written)
Or maybe I'll just go back to bed...

And the word of the day is: SHIBBOLETH!

Oh, dear - I went back to bed at six-thirty, fell right asleep, then the phone rang a couple of times at nine, but I fell back asleep and just got up, which would be great if I didn't have to be at a noon lunch meeting at noon, which is thirty minutes from now.
-
Apps were Google Earth and WAZE - fun.
And yes, I do like the new operating system.
-
Popping in to wish everyone a great Monday and a great week.
I survived the 5 show weekend only to stay in La Jolla to do a staged reading tonight with an afternoon rehearsa (soon). But it is written by the retired Judge who released Reuben Hurricane Carter from his incarceration. Interesting stuff.
This is the last week of the badly directed musical, so once I'm through it perhaps I can be a better DR here again.
And TOD:
The best cabaret show I saw was Bernadette Peters in the Blue Room in San Fran. Simply amazing.
Have a wonderful day, all!
-
I may have just overexerted myself moving furniture.
I need to get this place relatively accessible for the mattress delivery on Wednesday, but I may have blown it.
-
The best cabaret show I've ever seen was by no one anyone is likely to have heard of.
His name was Robert Mattson, and he was utterly brilliant. His cabaret career only consisted of a few performances, before he succumbed to the HIV/AIDS virus.
In some wonderful, alternate universe, he's still beside the piano, crooning that high-larious Sinatra-meets-Springsteen medley for packed houses and tumultuous acclaim...

Hello Everyone:
TOD:
The only cabaret show I have seen is Moulin Rouge, and actually it was really a movie.
-
AND THE QUOTE OF THE DAY IS:
"Nothing very much happens in her books, and yet, when you come to the bottom of a page, you eagerly turn it to learn what will happen next. Nothing very much does and again you eagerly turn the page. The novelist who has the power to achieve this has the most precious gift a novelist can possess."
W.SOMERSET MAUGHAM,
I have a question DR'S, who is he referring to?
-
Did anyone watch the Emmys last night?
Of course I thought Neil Patrick Harris was excellent as always.
However, I thought it dragged on too long. Three hours is just too much.

Okay, I need some help. Back in May, I purchased what was supposed to be the 14-disc "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" radio drama from a seller on Amazon.co.uk. I was sent the 13-disc version. The 14th disc is a bonus disc that I specifically wanted. This seller listed her copy on the wrong version on Amazon.co.uk...that was her mistake. The 13-disc was available from Amazon.co.uk and sells for much less than what I paid for the 14-disc version.
At the time, I contacted the seller who agreed to a refund. I sent it back (at my additional expense) to England and the seller instantly refunded my money (including the original shipping, but not the return shipping). Anyway, last week I received the unopened package from England! I fessed up and e-mailed the seller asking what happened. The seller doesn't seem to know what happened. I e-mailed, "...please let me know what you'd like me to do." The seller responded with, "I'm not sure as I've not had this instance before - what would best suited with you? [sic]"
My question...what would you do and/or what do you think I should say?
Thanks. :)

Oh, once I got my refund, I reordered it from another seller (at a slightly lower price) and have since received that. It's the correct item:

Yes, You are correct DR Elmore.
Do you enjoy Jane Austen books?
I do, I also love the movies

SHIBBOLETH:

I Love Gregory Peck!

Thanks for the link DR FJL.....I hadn't been kept in the Zach loop for awhile, nice to know he's working.

Goodbye for now!

TOD:
I have yet to see a cabaret.

Had a fun luncheon with singer/songwriter Harriet Schock, picked up a couple of packages, and in about an hour I'll do a jog.

My appointment with the cardiologist is not for a couple of weeks, but the technician told me that if there was anything that I really had to worry about, they would have called him immediately.

Aww Larry, is it possible for you to get a different kind of cane? I know they aren't overly attractive but something like the ones below would give you more support and there is the style that converts to a chair to sit on when you need to rest.

IMHO there was too much focus on the angst of the romance than on the mystery. I liked it but not as much as the other books and only plan to read the next two in the series through the library or discounted as this one was.

Well she wrote these before her best sellers. So i don't expect them to be as good. I am curious if I will like the romance aspect. Will probably depend on how it is written and if i like the characters.

Well, I don't think I did any serious damage to myself. I'll see how I feel tomorrow.
I will be going to bed very soon after a really hot bath.

It was way overdue, IMO.

Good sleep to DR Elmore, and VIBES to all.
I will be E&T till late tomorrow night because I'm driving over to Morgantown WV to visit a few family members I only get to see once or twice per year, and this time I get to meet a couple of new ones. My uncle (always one of my favorite relatives) is 80, and about ten years ago it was revealed to him for the first time that he was adopted. Quite the shock, but another relative who's the expert in genealogy and research helped him track down his siblings, and (long story short) they all had the greatest time getting to know each other. So we're having a li'l get-together in the hometown on my mother's side (Morgantown) which is a lovely and fascinating place for me. Driving over in the morning, and returning Thursday afternoon.
-
I had a very nice day today. My DH and I drove up north, where it was much cooler. Lots of fall wildflowers, a few butterflies, and some birds.

Due to my E and T-ness this weekend, I totally missed wishing DR Laura a happy birthday!
Hope it was a wonderful day for you, DR Laura!!

Thank you, MBarnum. It was a nice day.

Hello!
-
TOD: The only ones I've seen are Brent Barrett solo, Brent with Karen Mason, and Sandy Bainum. And they were all great!
-
I'm glad I didn't stay up for the rest of the Emmys. I think it was one of the worst award shows ever (what I saw of it, at least!). NPH did his best, though.
-
TOD: Jason Graae. Of course.
-
Tell her you will return it to her and HER expense this time DR GEORGE.
DITTO!
Thanks for the opinions/advice. It makes sense to me. :)

I have been running all day. Will catch up layer.
-
TOD: I have plenty of cabaret albums, but I've seen little of it. No one beats Bobby Short in my book, and I was fortunate enough to see him. When I lived in Sarasota, Fla., Ann Morrison was living there and she did two separate cabaret acts that were wonderful.
-
Kooky sort of afternoon. Must go jog right now.

Interesting story. I look forward to hearing more about your uncle and your gathering.

I had a very nice day today. My DH and I drove up north, where it was much cooler. Lots of fall wildflowers, a few butterflies, and some birds.
Lovely.

I love Neil Patrick Harris. He's the bee's knees, and he's a great emcee for, well, pretty much anything.
That said, I passed on watching the Emmy Awards, because I have no emotional investment in them. Sure, I like The Big Bang Theory, but really, that's about all the series TV I watch anymore. I'm a movie girl. I'd prefer watching a deeveedee, or whatever TCM is playing at any given time, than virtually anything the networks are offering these days.
That said, I like Behind the Candelabra just fine, and if it won anything, I'm happy.

Now that my ankle is feeling better I'll mention how clumsy I was this morning. I went to the gym and when I got off the first workout machine I bashed the side of my ankle into a metal bar. I was seeing stars. I did a slow workout on both the stairmaster & the treadmill and then we went to Costco of all places. It didn't help that I lost Keith for an extra amount of time than usual and kept walking around the store.
As we were leaving I had a pile of papers, including receipts for both our shopping & contacts I ordered, when a gust of wind blew them away from me in two different directions in the parking lot. I'm sure I looked funny chasing them and had not Keith kept his eyes on one receipt it would have been lost. Both kept blowing away each time I almost caught them so it took awhile-funny except my ankle didn't appreciate the humor of the situation. :)

Back from a three-mile jog, got the new Blu and Ray player hooked up, although can't seem to get the wireless Internet thing working - that was easy as pie on the other machine - just plugged in the wireless doohickey and it found it - I scanned but it didn't find the router - odd. And I don't have a clew as to how to do that manually. But I'd like it because then I could watch youtube stuff on the TV.

The only cabaret act I can recall seeing is when Long lost DR WFO took me to see Karen Akers in NYC ..

Topic of the Day:
I suppose that seeing Bernadette Peters or Patti LuPone "In Concert" actually counts as cabaret. I've seen one-person concerts, but not an actual "cabaret" performance. However, I have seen The Manhattan Transfer and (separately) Dave Brubeck at Dimitriou's Jazz Alley (http://www.jazzalley.com) in Seattle. Those might count.

Good morning.
Well, I wonder if Stephen Findle might be able to get Liza to do Sunset Boulevard. I think it would be ... interesting.
I still like my idea of a color-blind casting version of Show Boat (with Mandy Patinkin performing Old Man River).
Sorry, I don't agree with you and Patinkin with his high voice singing Old Man River doesn't work for me-lol
It is the ridiculousness that makes it funny.
How about Liza and Mandy singing a duet of "Ol' Man River"?

Page five? Really?

Stoop Dog, I hope that isn't your favorite cabaret show.

Monday. Today is shopping & banking....so I shall join the festivities anon.
SHOPPING AND BANKING should be an award-winning sitcom title.
It is currently part of the Game Show Network.

I like your thinking, Laura, but he could also do the show in blackface.

This is Banned Books Week. You know what to do...
Yes, I took my copy of PATTI LU PONE, "A MEMOIR, signed by the author, and used a blowtorch on it.

That shot of Hitch was taken on the set of one of the great Hitchcock half-hour shows, Specialty of the House, starring Robert Morley and Madame Spivy. A brilliant show, and how they got away with it back then is anyone's guess.

Well, it's time for me to leave. I was thinking about going to Costco before they closed, but it's too late. I'll just go to Fred Meyer, instead.
Be back later.

T.O.D.
Ironically, the most memorable I have seen was Liza's little sister, Lorna Luft.

Thank goodness you-know-who got kicked off "Project Runway" Thursday night.
It was way overdue, IMO.
I couldn't agree more

After a frustrating evening of slower-than-slow Internet connection, everything seems to be back to normal speed. That is, now that I'm off to bed.
Good night, all.

G'night!

Say what? What is this page five malarky?

I've seen Lorna, here in Olympia! I even got her autograph. :)

Tonight, I watched the first two episodes of the new season of "How I Met Your Mother." I love this show and will miss it when it ends.
-
Right now, I'm watching the season premiere of "Castle."
