Title: CONCEPTUALIZING

Well, you've read the notes, the notes had a concept, and now it is time for you to post until the conceptual cows come home.

One of the worst theatrical productions that I ever saw was a local production of "Little Shop of Horrors."  The Seymour and the Orin (the dentist) were pretty good, and the three street urchins weren't too bad, but the Audrey couldn't stay in tune to save her life.  The voice of Audrey II was a local politician who had actually had some vocal problems years before, so he didn't just not have a voice...he was totally wrong.  During that run, they had a special Halloween performance where if you came in costume, you could get in for half price.  A friend of mine was at that performance and he said that no one came in costume and they had all of 30 people in the audience.  The theater was the main stage of the Washington Center for the Performing Arts which has 988 seats!  30 people!

That theater group didn't survive for very long.

But then years ago, I read a quote somewhere, "Bad community theater is better than no community theater."  I kind of like that idea.

Good Sunday vibes for DR ELMORE.

Today is rainy....yesterday was beautiful.  Today we close the barn for the winter and have our last Board Meeting before our Annual Meeting.

We thought about doing MY FAIR LADY next season - however there is a professional touring company of the show coming through the area next spring - so it is restricted.  We have to investigate other musicals.....

Good morning, all! It's been a quiet morning; I slept in until 9, took a long hot bath, and I'm on my first cup of coffee. I've enjoyed reading everyone's activities from last night.

DR slingshot, I hope your voice is working this morning.

DR Michael Shayne, Kismet is adorable!

DR cillaliz, I'm glad you had a good time at the concert.  When Indiana University Opera Theatre presented my reconstruction of Cole Porter's JUBILEE, I met Joshua Bell's teacher, Joseph Gingold, who in 1935 played violin in the pit of the original production of JUBILEE.

DR TCB, and I worry about you! I'm very happy that you spoke and that it went well.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Healthy vibes to one and all! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
From DR John:
Quote
Here's the recipe for the original margarita and it's still the best:
1 part tequila
1 part triple sec or orange liqueur
1 part freshly squeezed lime juice
Shake with ice. Pour into a margarita glass rimmed with extra salt (the extra salt is my choice). Squeeze a slice of orange or tangelo over the top. Garnish with lime and orange slice.
This sounds good except, aside from ice, I don't have a single one of these ingredients in the house.
Is this how the ice is done when we order it on the rocks?  We usually add an extra shot of tequila and then share the margarita.   Oh, and no salt for me.
Actually, when I was in Fort Wayne a few months ago for LOMBARD, I did try to turn the theater group onto BRAIN.
Unfortunately, they had just staged DROWSY CHAPERONE and it hadn't done well, so they were only interested in doing big name musicals in the future.  They just opened their season with LE MIZ
Sorry, but I did try.
It really is excellent, seen large.  I might go back.  The local bijou is holding it over a week, albeit for just one showing per day, because they got a lot of people complaining that they didn't have a chance or fair warning in which to see it last week.  And you know what?  I don't even blame the idiot public in a case like this.  These showings of vintage movies don't get properly publicized.
BK, since Free For All Sundays are so successful, have you considered changing it to something elso on Sundays?  Like, for example; HHW's Greatest Hits.  You just pick a Topic of the Day from any day during the last year, and we can try it again.  it might help our Sundays.  Either that or  ask Obama to close down all churches in the country.
Glad to hear that DR TCB's speechifying was well received.  I am sure he received generous applesauce.
I did actually ending up getting some nice applesauce; although the program was not really keyed that way.  When I got to the end of my speech / reminiscence, I announced, "That since I have finsihed talking about this old institution, now lets talk about the other old institution in town -- Sharry O"Hare.  After the roar of laughter ended, we did a little of our usual banter, and then I asked her husband, Micheal, to wheel me up the aisle.  At that point, the applesauce started.  It was very nice.
Sunday evening greetings!  Richard and I had an uneventful trip to Lima and back today, but our day started with a bit of drama.
We'd had a nice visit from Rob and Mary Linda last night and, as they were leaving, I noticed Rob's glasses case and keys on the kitchen counter and reminded him to take them.  Well, this morning Richard couldn't find his keys.  We looked and looked and pieced together yesterday's events and finally surmised that I'd sent HIS keys home with Rob.  A quick text message to Rob prompted a phone call from him and it was confirmed.  Richard used my keys to his car to drive today and we're about to meet the kids at Chipotle halfway between their house and ours to retrieve Richard's keys.  Good thing a couple of other church members have keys to the church in Lima!
The Seymour sang a half tone sharp the entire show and was, I suspect, close to forty and not nerdy in any way, shape or form.
Actually, when I was in Fort Wayne a few months ago for LOMBARD, I did try to turn the theater group onto BRAIN.
Unfortunately, they had just staged DROWSY CHAPERONE and it hadn't done well, so they were only interested in doing big name musicals in the future.  They just opened their season with LE MIZ
Sorry, but I did try.
Isn't everybody?
A few snaps from the restoration-in-eternal-process Loew's Jersey, with apologies for my failure to capture the richer golds and other deeper colors, especially noticeable in the shots of the lobby.  Unfortunately, because I love balconies, their balcony is closed to the public for now.  Scroll down the page to see 'em all:
Thanks for the great photos. I miss the grand movie palaces. Some of my fondest memories are seeing movies from the balcony.
Yes DR DRUXY....the name of the game is parts for LOTS of people and sell lots of tickets, so I don't think JOLSON is for us.  And BTW, I saw the Ft Wayne DROWSY CHAPARONE and it would have sold a lot more tickets if it had been a better production....Whew!
BRAIN is good....but it has some "subject matter" that would not fly with our charter......unfortunately....
I'd think so, too.
In Redondo Beach, there would be about one week in August that it would actually get humid and be a little uncomfortable and I'd wish I had A/C.  Even during the Santa Anas -- at ANY time of year -- I was always fine.  Then again, I was right at the beach.  I don't know how far inland DR Sam lives.
Back from a ham and Swiss and no onion rings or french fries.  I finished the liner notes and got them off, then finally finalized the sequencing and what we're using for the first score on the disc - the short one.  The score as used in the film is only fifteen minutes long, but we've got close to fifteen minutes of great unused and alternate cues.  So, this CD will be over seventy minutes with the second score.
The guy who does wiring for me came by to swap out a cord on the new blu and ray player - he also fixed the remote so that it wasn't turning on the OTHER Oppo player, which was really irritating.  So, that's all fixed and he also got the Internet working on the new player so that I can do the firmware upgrades automatically (it already did one) and also I can now do Netflix, Vudu and tons of other stuff, not that I will.  But one fun thing is I can now do You Tube on my TV.
Glad to hear that DR TCB's speechifying was well received.  I am sure he received generous applesauce.
I did actually ending up getting some nice applesauce; although the program was not really keyed that way.  When I got to the end of my speech / reminiscence, I announced, "That since I have finsihed talking about this old institution, now lets talk about the other old institution in town -- Sharry O"Hare.  After the roar of laughter ended, we did a little of our usual banter, and then I asked her husband, Micheal, to wheel me up the aisle.  At that point, the applesauce started.  It was very nice.
That doesn't really explain it very well.  I was introducing Sharry, who closed the entertainment portion of the evening with "I'M STILL HERE."
Bob planned to start moving things into his office this weekend.  I considered going down to take a new print I got on Saturday, but decided against it. He has the keys and I want him to have that time alone in the space.  I've always liked to sit all alone in a space before I'm actually moved in just to get the feel of it and imagine myself there.  Don't know if he does that, I kind of doubt it, but decided to give him the space just in case
Tonight, I went to my first rehearsal of "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe."  I basically just sat there and watched.  David, the guy who has written the original score and made some sound effects was there running the board, which was fine with me.  He doesn't have everything ready, but it'll be pretty easy for me once he does.  It's going to be a good show. :)
A couple of days ago, my dad asked me if I could record "Citizen Kane" that's going to be on TCM tomorrow night and make a DVD for him.  I know I bought the DVD, and when I came home from rehearsal tonight, I looked in my garage.  I couldn't find it, so it's probably in one of the stolen boxes, but I did find a purchased VHS copy.  I'll tell him about that, but I still will also record the TCM broadcast so that he can have a DVD.
