Title: THE CURIOUS CASE OF THE MISSING BELLS
Post by: bk on October 02, 2013, 12:31:06 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes had bells that were not missing, and now it is time for you to post until the missing cows come home.

Thanks, singdaw!

Volume 1 is categories from A to B, which includes AIG bailout, Barack, Broadway, Bette and Babs, American Idol, my plan assuming this catches on at all had been to proceed through the alphabet categorically (C through D so far includes Divas, Dancing with the Stars, Cher, Disney spoofs, Christmas spoofs, Cinema, the Charts).  Divas, as you can imagine, allows a wide range.

To celebrate finding those missing bells I would have sung

You gotta ring them bells, you gotta ring them bells
You gotta make 'em sing and really ring them bells
It's such a happy thing to hear 'em ting a ling
You gotta ring them bells

DR JOHN G mentioned THE SHUTTERED ROOM - which is supposed to take place somewhere in the northeastern US but was filmed in England...it is a strange film.

In this particular film, Oliver Reed wears the TIGHTEST jeans I have ever seen on film on any person....it is really kind of fascinating to see....if one is interested in such things.

Good morning, all! Last night was a restless night, filled with nightmares about my family that creeped me out. All I recall now is that both my late parents made appearances, but not in the same dream.  The dream in which my dad and brother Macbeth showed up involved serial killers, some nasty killing group, preparations for a church revival meeting, and a stretch  country road; it was very ugly.

I have - quelle surprise! - no plans today beyond this Jerome Moross conference call at 11:00.  After that, I do need to walk to a post box and send out my Medicare payment.

I disagree with BK. I think that removing bread, rice and pasta from your diet (huge carbs) will allow a person to lose weight much more easily.  Obviously if you eat junk food and tons of desserts instead it might not help.  But in my experience less carbs = a much easier time losing weight.  I also think that eating healthier foods (lots of fruits and vegetables) is a big factor as well.

You can choose BK's route and do a certain amount of calories for sure. But much easier the above way (not that it is easy to cut out those foods - it's hard).

First of all, I want to apologize to all of you for my melancholy (baby) post Monday night.  I also want to apologize for being E & T yesterday.  Monday night was just a combination of a lot of things; including lack of sleep, nerves, and disappointment.  Still, I shouldn't have written it, especially to all of you.  You have all been so caring, loving, and supportive to me; not only during the last couple of years with this current crisis, but for all the time I have been a member of BK's second family (this is not Birkeland His Way).  In fact, I never would have made it through this crisis without your love and support.  You have given me far more comfort than my other group of friends and relatives.  Monday night was a low point for me, but it wasn't as if I didn't know that the anniversary date was coming.  Sometimes I just vent my feelings, when I should stop, take a breath, and move on with my life.

Secondly, thank you again for all of the kind words, vibes, prayers, and support that you gave me yesterday on this board.  And In particular, a thank you to Ron Pulliam for the offer to share the burden.  Believe me Ron, I am certainly open to a Christmas miracle.  In the meantime, I promise to buckle down, winsocki, keep doing my exercises, and start lending more support to my other BK family members who have equally, if not more, serious problems that need to be faced.   ;) ;)

ASK BK #1

What were your most challenging remastering/remixing of soundtrack/cast recordings?

For reissues, I don't know that I'd use the word challenging, but we did major work on Promises, Follies and Sugar - those were all time-consuming and I was maniacal about each.  A Place in the Sun was very challenging for the fellow who fixed it - a year ago it was not something that could ever be released, but then the technology and Chris Malone's using of it finally made it work.

I did the carbs diet - it's called the Atkins Diet - and while I did lose the initial weight more quickly, I felt terrible and ultimately realized that one had to live their entire life using that diet because if one didn't, the weight came back so quickly it wasn't even funny.  So, not for me.

DR TCB, you have every right to feel down, have a few moments of self-pity, or whatever...health problems ARE a downer, especially chronic ones!!

Regardless of whether your health issue(s) feel like they will never get better, or even if you know that they will in time get better...there are times that a person just feels helpless, sad, bitter, angry, or just plain uncomfortable and/or in pain.

BK, my question of the day is:

Do you have any plans at the moment to release more vintage B movie soundtracks?

And, for BK and anyone else, if you could release any of your favorite B movie soundtracks, what would those be (just assume any score released would be available and profitable)?

For me, BK has already released my most wanted which was ATTACK OF THE PUPPET PEOPLE (even though it was not the entire thing, what was there was fantastic!)

Others that I would enjoy would be a lot of the music from 1940s/50s Universal B films...horror, drama, and sci fi.

I love this song!  When I was doing a vocal workshop about 10-15 years ago, I transcribed the women's parts so that I could do it like the recording.  The songbook only had the solo line.  It's much more interesting with the bongs in the background. :)

I just noticed or I would have mentioned it earlier to Michel Shayne; it's "I hear bells in the summer night."

And what a great song!  I arranged it around 1990 for the New York City Gay Men's Chorus on this album:

BK, my question of the day is:

Do you have any plans at the moment to release more vintage B movie soundtracks?

And, for BK and anyone else, if you could release any of your favorite B movie soundtracks, what would those be (just assume any score released would be available and profitable)?

For me, BK has already released my most wanted which was ATTACK OF THE PUPPET PEOPLE (even though it was not the entire thing, what was there was fantastic!)

Others that I would enjoy would be a lot of the music from 1940s/50s Universal B films...horror, drama, and sci fi.

I have a ton of Albert Glasser sitting here - we'll do something at some point.

Thomas Gibson is on THE TALK this afternoon. Weird bird; I never liked him personally.

He lives here in San Antonio, at least part of the time. He's married to the cousin of a friend of mine. She's quite nice. I've never met him. Wonder what she thinks of the video.

And last night, I went through my garage again looking for a couple of videos and DVDs and I found my DVD of A Tale of Cinderella (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00016XOC4/)!

When that was transferred from VHS to DVD, someone - maybe George or Will, the composers - remixed the sound, and I dn'tthnk it's as good as the video sound.

I used to see him at Drama Book Shop while he was going to Juilliard; he always seemed to be one of those people who operated on the policy: I'm cute and if I bat my eyes and flirt, I can get anything I want. He was Orsino in a Central Park TWELFTH NIGHT with my friend Peter MacNicol - where is he these days? - and I walked out of Central Parkbehif him and a group of his friends and he was loudly badmouthing a fellow cast member. I thought that was really poor behavior.

How do you know Peter MacNicol??? I don't know where he is now (he was on Numbers, the television show) but I went to the University of Minnesota with him. I know he would never remember me but he was there during my freshman year and then he graduated. He was Peter Johnson then and he lived in Middlebrook Hall and did "Elevator Theatre" where he would stage a diorama that would last from the time the elevator door opened until it closed.

DR TCB, as you mentioned we have been here while you have dealt with these issues and, IMHO, of course you should have shared your feelings with us.  I think you have been as brave as possible throughout and sometimes we all need to express our disappointments, and this one is big.

As always, sending good vibes and hugs.

I did the carbs diet - it's called the Atkins Diet - and while I did lose the initial weight more quickly, I felt terrible and ultimately realized that one had to live their entire life using that diet because if one didn't, the weight came back so quickly it wasn't even funny.  So, not for me.

I think the Atkins Diet is horrible.  Reducing breads and eating more fruits and vegetables not only an excellent diet but a good way to change one's eating habits even after the weight is lost.

You know we are all here with you and for you! Many hugs and vibes to you!

TCB, I'm so sorry this has been so difficult. Of course you should share those feelings here! How could you not feel frustrated? My own observation is that people heal at their own pace and that must be respected. Be realistic, yes, but also stay positive because people often make recoveries that no one expected--least of all the doctors! It's so much better to live in hope than resignation.

Mega hugs!

Oh, and I'm up.  I was up at eight thanks to cement mixing trucks doing their dirty work on about five monstrosities being built in our quaint neighborhood, fell back asleep at nine and was awakened by the doorbell at ten - the gas company here to read the meter.

Someone's car alarm went off this morning at about 7:15...much too early for me. :P

Diabetics are not supposed to eat starches of any sort, such as anything wih flour, corn, rice and potatoes, all of which are worse than sugar. No overly sugary fruit, such as bananas. (I cheat too often and I really shouldn't.)

I'm sorry, but I just can't stick around if politics is going to be discussed.  You may like the fool who thinks he's our dictator and not an elected official who does not constitutionally have the purse strings and who doesn't understand that he doesn't have the right to tell congressmen who were also elected by citizens that he doesn't have to talk to them, he doesn't have to negotiate anything and that it's all their fault.  He's worthless and I'm leaving....bye

Back from Smokey Joe's Cafe.  Whatever charms this show may have had on Broadway, they sure weren't very much in evidence, at least for me.  I don't know how the show originally worked, though.  The cast was fine and worked their butts off but the show just seemed weird to me, but not as weird as the moronic audience of pathetic baby boomers who want to make it all about them - standing after some performer riffs his guts out, standing when the cast sings Stand By Me (I guess they thought that was literal), and dancing wildly (embarrassing) trying to have all attention focused on themselves.  I'm about through going to see musical theater in big venues because audiences are now so trained by American Idol, and sound is so over amplified that nothing is real anymore.  And that I don't need.  It's all big theme park with those reprehensible moving concert lights, although the idiot woman next to me who, during the show's final fifteen minutes, was checking her phone and texting until I finally turned to her and let her have it - the light was so bright and so in my face it was ridiculous - then she just glared at me and shut it off.  What a society we've become.
