Well, you've read the notes, the notes had peanut butter innards, and now it is time for you to post until the beloved cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: BLUESTOCKING!
-
I think one should always don their blue stockings while eating their beloved chocolate donut with peanut butter innards.
-
DR Cillaliz - how very frightening. So glad that you, your cats, and your house survived unscathed.
-
What lovely photos, DR Jane - can't wait to see more.
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
Glad to hear the tornado passed you by Priscilla.
-
Wow, that's some fall foliage Jane!
-
Thunderstorms for us today.....and of course it is a work day. Oh well.
-
Wishes from us too, Cilla! Love to all of you.

Ditto. That sounds so scary!
-
Those pancakes look so yummy.
-
Nice pics DR Jane. Very pretty.

The weather here this week and last (other than yesterday) has been crazy nice. 70s. I was riding my bike this week with a t-shirt on and no jacket. That is crazy weather for October. But I think it's starting to get a bit cooler. It is supposed to rain a lot next week although the temps i saw for Monday were 80s. But I think other than that it will be cooler. I sure was loving the 70s temps.

TOD:
More original cast musicals.
-
Good mornng, all.
Glad you're OK, Cillaliz.
No bbq today. Must write and write.
-
I started watching HELL ON WHEELS last night.
I picked up the 1st season on DVD for $10.00 at Half-Price Books in Austin.
Good show; in the realistic style of DEADWOOD.
-
Saw a community theater production of "Young Frankenstein" last night. It lasted 3 hours. The set, lighting and orchestra amazing. Some very good cast members and good dancers. Direction not strong. And they were all working on a script that's really third rate.
-
Good very late morning, all. My goodness, I slept in late. A rare privilege. And boy did I need it.
Coffee. Much coffee.
-
TOD:
How about songs or albums you didn't get to do, like "Welcome to the Club"? Or shows that need full recordings, such as "Smile"?
Or a concept like Judy Kaye's "Diva by Diva." It doesn't have to be stuff from her album, but assign certain songs to certain players because of their association with a performer, male or female. Sort of a night of stars.
Or "Ethel Merman's Broadway." Songs sung by her but not necessarily presented in ways that you associate with her brassy style.
-
We're getting rain also. It rained early this morning. It's not raining now but it is cloudy and grey and will probably rain again at some point today and maybe tomorrow.
-
Good morning, all! After a lousy sleep tw nights ago, I went back to a sleeping pill and had a lousy night of sleep! I guess it isn't the meds.
So, the alarm rang at 7:30 but I ignored it and slept until 9:45. I am bathed, dressed, and on my first cuppa coffee.
I have no more news; every day is the same.
DR cillaliz, I'm happy to hear that you and the cats were not blown to Oz last night. Stay safe.
-
VERY relieved to read BK's reaction to how that HOUSE OF WAX documentary was handled. I watched it two nights ago and was fairly appalled at the music and at how distracting it was.
-
Good Morning to all

DR BK;
You could do a show based on the Benjamin Kritzer character, and his adventures.
You could write songs based on all the unique sayings and journeys Benjamin has.
I think it would be hysterical, heartwarming, and a SMASH!!!

Oliver & Company (Disney Animated)
The Mystery of Edwin Drood
Copperfield
The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby
Pickwick
A Tale of Two Cities
Great Expectations
Mr. Quilp (aka "The Old Curiosity Shop")
or do a Christmas show of songs from the various musicals based on A Christmas Carol
Scrooge
A Christmas Carol
Comin' Uptown
The Stingiest Man in Town
Mister Magoo's Christmas Carol
The Muppet Christmas Carol
-
AND THE QUOTE OF THE DAY IS:
"Friends are as companions on a journey, who ought to aid each other to persevere in the road to a happier life"
PUTHAGORAS
-
Great idea, DR Mike. I love Charles Dickens!
-
Last night, My friends and I got together and went to The Galleria Mall which is near where I Live.
We shopped, had a few drinks, ate, shopped again, and had lots of laughs.
-
I will begin reading CIRCLE OF FRIENDS, by Maeve Binchy today.
I saw the movie years ago and really liked it.
I started to read the novel then, but stopped (for some reason), but I hope to finish it this time.
Has any DR"S read or saw CIRCLE OF FRIENDS?
-
I started PAGE 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) ;) ;D 8) :
-
DR Elmore,
Hope you are feeling better today!!!
-
Love the Christmas songs ideas, Mike. And it could be expanded to include some Hanukkah songs like the one from "Yours, Anne."
Also, belated congratulations on your recent milestone.

Loved the book, Kate. It had the leisure time to go into things that needed to be condensed or deleted for the purpose of dramatic tension for a movie. Don't remember exactly what as it's been about 20 years now, but I do recall enjoying that book more than most of the Binchey I read until her last two or three books.

Saw the film, read the book; the movie's story has been changed. I liked them both.

Sunny and cool with a nice breeze. How grand!

I'm up, I'm up (barely), and she of the Evil Eye is here and I shall go jog in about twenty minutes.

We saw Buyer and Cellar last night. It's a one-man show starring Michael Urie. It was inspired by Ms. Streisand's book, "My Passion for Design," in which she reveals that she has a "shopping mall" in her basement, with a doll shop, a candy shop, etc. Michael plays a character who gets a job in the "mall." Hilarity ensues when the lady of the house comes down to shop! There's more to it than that, though. Michael was really great. He did all the voices, including Barbra and her husband (he didn't really try to imitate them, though. We waited and chatted with him after the show. He was really nice and appreciated that we waited awhile for him.
-
Our first stop along our scenic drive home was gorgeous. Deschutes National Forest.

Great phots, Jane.
-
DR TCB when we saw snow I think the elevation was around 5,000 ft.
-
DR Sam I'm glad you made it home ok with all that wind.
-
Thanks DR George. Good news about your show.
-
Thank you DR's Singdaw, Ben, Jennifer, & John.

Thanks for the good wishes. IT was really strange and is the talk today, there were tornadoes to our south, north, east and west - all close to us, yet none of them hit us. Unbelievable an we are counting our blessings. I went out to Wynstone this morning. It's an upscale development just to the west of town. There were TONS of trees uprooted, ripped apart. I saw some metal out buildings in shreds and wrapped around fences etc A lot were right near a field of buffalo, (domestic not wild) I wonder what they were thinking as the wind whipped by. Anyway, last night the entrance to the gated community was completely blocked by downed trees. Luckily no one needed an ambulance, it couldn't have gotten in. I did see lots of shingles off roofs, serious roof damage etc, but not too many destroyed homes. That's a good thing!
-
About 5:30 last night I was left a retirement party a little early - a part of our band played as the retiree is a member of the band - when I looked up at the sky (we all knew tornadoes were possible) I could see rotation to the east moving one way and rotation to the west moving the other way. I thought "Oh Crap, it's going to collide right over us" I hurried home and wasn't here more than about 15 minutes when the sirens went off. I got the cats and put them in their carriers and sat on the floor next to them until the all clear was given. They weren't pleased at all, but if the storm did hit the house or windows blew out, I would be able to keep them safe if they were in their carriers.
-
Smart move going home early. I never thought to put the cats in their carriers or leash a dog during storm warnings, glad I never needed to rush off with them.
-
Good morning. Life is great, the only thing that would make it better is a donut like the picture in the notes.
-
I saw 1776 at ACT in SF the other night. First time ever seeing this show. It was pretty darned amazing. Directed by Frank Galati, just a wonderful production
-
DR Cillaliz, I'm so glad you and your cats are ok!
That had to be very upsetting and scary!
-
Many Thanks to DR Druxy and DR Kevin H in regards to the Benjamin Kritzer idea for agreeing with me.
-
DR Kevin,
So glad you enjoyed the Buyer and Cellar show with Michael Urie.
It sounds like it was very entertaining!

I'd love to see that again. Saw it at a dinner theater in Sarasota, Fla., about 18 years ago. Same theater, the Golden Apple, did Greenwillow, She Loves Me, the Maury Yeston Phantom and more, all fine productions.

Page three!

Back from a three-mile jog, some chicken tenders, and a visit to the Apple Store. The power button on the new iPhone was so hard to use and no matter how hard I pressed it took forever to give me the sign off screen - something was definitely amiss and it turned out to be the bumper guard - ill-designed and problematic. I bought instead the actual iPhone case that goes with the phone (they were out of the black version or I would have gotten it when I got the phone) and voila - button now works easy as pie as it should and the case adds absolutely no size to the phone, which is great.
-
I then picked up not one package.
-
Saturday afternoon greetings! Richard and I were at the Middfest venue shortly after 9am and had plenty of time to set up the sponsor lounge before the official opening at noon. Richard came home not long after we opened and I stayed until our 3pm-5pm volunteers arrived. Home now watching Michigan football until I have to go back to put stuff away at closing time (7pm).
And when I left there STILL were no coffee mugs to put in the donor bags.
-

DR Jane, I love this photo! My dad used to fish for trout in the Deschutes River. I have his wicker creel and Rob uses his canvas bait bag as a satchel.
-
I just watched a MIDSOMER MURDER episode with my friend Simon in a small part. It was one truly convoluted plot with three murders and I have no idea how detective Barnaby figured it out!
-
And it's time for some dinner.
-
Has it been an hour since I last posted? Where is everybody?
I just watched the pilot and second episode of HOT IN CLEVELAND; very demented, andI loved them. I haven't laughed so much in a while. Thank you, Netflix!
-
I really like those new pictures DR Jane!
-
So, with Michigan leading Minnesota 35-13, and less than 4 minutes to play, we left to pack up the Middfest sponsor lounge for the night. Quick work with help from Paula and Sharon and we got home just before the rain.
Final score: Michigan 42, Minnesota 13 - Go, Blue!
-
Smart move going home early. I never thought to put the cats in their carriers or leash a dog during storm warnings, glad I never needed to rush off with them.
I do that so they don't run off. If a window blew out or the house was damaged they would be there with me and not running off in a panic
-
Thanks Kate and everyone. I've seen the estimates of the number of tornadoes from 8-16. Don't know what is correct. Anyway, no one died and the injuries were minor. The new warning system is enough to give you a heart attack. Instead of just telling you there's a tornado take cover it tells you it's an extremely dangerous storm and talks about the damage and ends with if you don't take cover you could die.

Where in tarnation IS everyone. Page three? Really? No posts in, what, two hours?

And a happy haineshisway.com birthday to Jenny, who hasn't been around these here parts for a decade probably. She was but a teen when she posted here, and we met her I think when we did my first book signing in NY.
-
Speaking of DRAT THE CAT as a theme, is there enough singing potential in the work of Ira Levin to make for a celebratory evening of song?
-
I was at a good old-fashioned hymn sing, but now I am home.
-
Trumpets and organ were played. Hymns were sung. Refreshments were consumed.
-
The dog is now consuming his doggie "ice cream" with great gusto.
-
What is doggie "ice cream?"

At the half: Northwestern 20, Ohio State 13
Sweet!
-
Those look really good, singdaw. Are they only for dogs?
-
Oh, I guess humans could try it, but it probbly wouldn't be to our taste.
-
Today, we had a very good matinee of "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe." I'm home now, just watching TV.

BK, do you happen to remember/know who Burt and June were?
-
TOD - Orchestrations by Larry Moore...
Definitely!!
-
I have to believe that Burt must have worked in distribution for Varese or something - that's the only thing that makes sense in terms of the comment - but who knows?
-
Page four? Really?
-
It was ninety degrees at nine-thirty when I did the jog - and it must have been close to 100 today - not normal and really kind of sickening.
-
The only other food I've had today besides the chicken tenders is four tiny vegetable egg roll things from Gelson's, some grapes and some melon balls. And that's that. I did buy a lot of different kinds of liquid refreshment, just for a change of pace - some diet Dr. Brown's cream soda, some diet lemonade concoction and some 0 calorie drinks - black raspberry and root beer. I've never heard of any of the labels so we'll just have to see if they're fun or not.
-
Finished one motion picture and may watch the first of the Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes things - I want to watch in the order aired, so first up is A Scandal in Bohemia.
-
Allergies are bothering me just a bit, so popped a Claritin to nip that in the bud.
-
I am my own frenzy.
-
Twenty more posts and it least it won't be a pathetic posting day.
-
Well I have just come home from the Oktoberfest at church
-
I received a call early this morning from a new Altar Guild member who had been given my name for assistance in setting up the main sanctuary and the chapel for communion ( I live closest to the church of all the altar guild members so I agree to be stand by if help was needed
-
So I popped up there and assisted her with setting up and then as I was about to head out I heard what sounded like loud hammering coming from the kitchen so I popped over to have look
-
There was the Pastors wife and four other ladies beating pork cutlets thin for our Oktoberfest meal
-
I was greeted with great enthusiasm - so great I was sure there was a catch
-
"Do you still belong to Costco?!"
"As a matter of fact I just renewed my member ship yesterday"
"Do you have time to make a Costco run?"
-
I was at a good old-fashioned hymn sing, but now I am home.
Love those! And I miss using the Methodist hymnal...
And I miss the old red Lutheran hymnal.
-
So off I went entrusted to pick up a few forgotten supplies needed for dinner making and to choose desserts
-
Costco on a Saturday morning is CRAZY
-
Watching a very taut drama called "14 Hours." It was packaged as Fox Film Noir, but it's not noir. Not by a long shot. But great performances, especially from Agnes Moorehead as a drama queen of a mother. Richard Basehart, Barbara Bel Geddes, a young Grace Kelly and plenty of folks who ended up doing TV commercials.
-
Wrote about 4,000 words today. Decent start to the book, but it doesn't feel quite like it's real yet. Maybe in a day or two.
-
But I found two lovely half sheet cakes - vanilla with vanilla mousse and vanilla icing with 48 rosebuds on top and a chocolate one with chocolate mouse and chocolate icing and 48 rosebuds on top
also two lovely cookie trays chocolate chip, macadamia nut, oatmeal raisin and white chocolate chip
-
Got the new Glen Campbell CD from the library today. "See You There." It's largely his greatest hits done in different tempos and interpretations. Good stuff. On some songs, he sounds like his old self. At other times, he just sounds old. But it's all effective, which makes his alzheimer's all the sadder.

For dinner, I pan-fried a ribeye in butter. Yum.

I have to go tomorrow morning. Probably won't be much saner.

Can we move this on, Vixmom?

Just a couple more.

You were able to nip it in the bud (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HqEIt-rQqbM)?

My stupid camera battery was flat ( or perhaps I was too stupid to check) so I have no photographic evidence of the eveing's proceedings

I think one should always don their blue stockings while eating their beloved chocolate donut with peanut butter innards.
"I soiled his bluestockings with my peanut butter innards" Wasn't that the Eleven O'clock number from DRAT THE CAT?
-
The menu was Schweine-Schnitzel,mushroom gravy, Spätzle, bratwurst, hot German potato salad, red cabbage, big soft pretzels, non alcoholic beer and various soft drinks
Besides the afore mentioned desserts someone brought two huge trays of Apfelstrudel
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

What a great photo!
-
Does DRAT THE CAT have a strong enough score to be the entire focus of a show? I only ask because the only song from the show I know is "She Touched Me," but I have never heard the rest of the score.
-
Well, I recorded it and love the score dearly - all of it. Filled with great numbers.

How about TITANIC at a dinner theater? You could have submarine sandwiches, shrimp salad, and for dessert, upside down cake.
Actually I served that menu at a Titanic party I threw on April 15, 2007 in honor of the unveiling of my framed Grand Staircase print; signed and numbered by the artist and also signed by one of the last Titanic survivors.

Whew, I am glad we don't get those around here. Actually. I guess we do, since we just had one about 15 miles from my house last week. Still, we don't have them very often.
-
That's what I'm talkin' about.
Calm down, I'm here.
-
I was at a good old-fashioned hymn sing, but now I am home.
Is there such a thing as a good new-fashioned hymn sing?
-
I'm watching the season premiere of "Scandal" and I just realized that the characters of Cyrus and the vice president, who are having a big argument together in one of the early scenes, played Meredith Grey's parents on "Grey's Anatomy." That's funny!
-

Hey, we can make it to Page Six with no problem.

I am watching the Washington Huskies against the much better Stanford Cardinals. However, two of Washington's touchdowns have been made by Bishop Sankey. In the grandstand is Sankey's grandfather who is watching is grandson play for the first time in over 5 years. The elder Mr Sankey was blind for the past five years, until he just recently had a highly successful cornea transplant. It is a very touching story.

Home from the niece's bday party. Great time with the family. I'm now burning some CD's for "Smiley" (whom he will be called) -- my life musically per decade. It's fun. He presented me with 7 CD's of music he thought I'd like, and he pretty much was spot on. Not a bit of musical theatre - and I'm more than jiggy with that. Music certainly does create a bond, and this one is pretty amazing.

Now PBS has Oscar Hammerstein, OUT OF MY DREAMS narrated by Jose's friend Matthew Morrison. I have only seen it about twenty five times, but I do love the music.

George, you had a matinee today. but no evening show?
-
well I have to be back at church in less than 7 hours so....nighty night
-
Gordon MacRae was one of the most handsome men of all-time. Perhaps not the best actor, but God, that voice.
-
Well, if no one wants to come out and play, I am going to bed.
-
G'night!
-
George, you had a matinee today. but no evening show?
No...the first two weekends only have a 1:00 matinee on Saturdays and Sundays. The last two Saturdays will have two shows, at 1:00 and 4:30. Since it's "theater for families," their shows don't go late. The Thursday and Friday shows start at 7:00.
