Frederic March:
DR JEKYLL AND MR HYDE
A STAR IS BORN
THE DESPERATE HOURS
Veronica Lake:
I have not seen enough of her films, and those I have seen were so long ago, I remember little about them.
I am home from seeing my doctor: I've lost 16 lbs, which is good news, and I have the PT referral in hand, which is even better. Now I am craving a pumpkin muffin, bread or donut.
Did you read LADY, DR TCB? It was probably my favorite....after CROWNED HEADS and THE OTHER.
I am home from seeing my doctor: I've lost 16 lbs, which is good news, and I have the PT referral in hand, which is even better. Now I am craving a pumpkin muffin, bread or donut.
We had a special guest yesterday at the Old Actor's Lunch. One of the member's mother-in-law was in town visiting from California. He was going to skip the lunch, but I begged him to come and to bring here along, so that I could meet her. Back in the late 50s and early 60s this lady (writing under a pseudonym) wrote a series of six lesbian pulp fiction novels that were earth shattering to an entire generation of women. Over the years, these books have been reissued, and today she is considered one of the pioneering authors of the LGBT revolution.
It was really an honor to meet her.
BK,
I watched I MARRIED A WITCH the other night and, although I thought it was okay and a pleasant way to spend 77 minutes, I thought that the film could have been much funnier and better with different leads.
Yes, Fredric March was one of our finest actors and I love much of his work, but comedy was not his forte'. He did not have the comic touch or timing of a Cary Grant or a Fred MacMurray, which is what the role required. And, though she was always a charming screen presence, neither did Veronica Lake. Imagine Jean Arthur, Ginger Rogers or (were she still alive then) Carole Lombard in that part.
Don't misunderstand. I like both of these performers, but they were miscast here and, as far as I'm concerned, lacked "chemistry". Indeed, I understand that they did not get along during filming.
On the other hand, Robert Benchley and Cecil Kellaway were delightful. And, for the time, the special effects were excellent.
"I Married A Witch" has been one of my favorite 1940s enchantments since I first saw it 30-plus years ago. It was in yesterday's mail alongside "The Other", which I watched last night.
I loved "The Other" and even watched it through again with the isolated tracks. It's sole CD incarnation was a bit disappointing inasmuchas it was incomplete. I understood from somewhere -- notes on the jacket or a comment on the internet -- that what we got was all there was. Happily, this has been rectified on the BD, and regardless of the source material, it sounds splendiferous. It leads me to hope that someone, someday will issue it as a complete, stand-alone CD experience as it's one of my favorite Jerry Goldsmith scores and has been since I first saw the film in a theater.
You are most welcome DR ryacko and congratulations on your nomination!
So, what is your website, DR Ryacko?
Mike Barnum's favorite Fredric March films may indeed be a sign of "The Rapture". They are all Class A films!

Wow, that is most interesting...what was her pseudonym? She would certainly make an interesting subject for an interview...or maybe she has done one recently, if so I would very much like to read it.
Licensed In Perpetuity is the title of my new memoir.
As I mentioned yesterday, I am currently reading "Circle of Friends" by Maeve Binchy.
I am really enjoying it!
DR Elmore, I'm very glad to hear that you slept well last night and got good news and the referral you wanted from your doctor.
By the way, I think I've found 12 of the 16 pounds you lost...

DR JOHN G - that story would make a better musical than many on Broadway recently.....
Had a nice lunch with Terry Trotter.
And here's a nice review for last Sunday's show - I really don't love when these people, who love everything, find it necessary to nitpick one singer, but what can you do - the fact is the singer had no problems with anything she did and the audience ate her up.

Sometimes reviewers who love everything are accused of being shills.....
Hmm...just had a nice recliner nap.
God speed, Scott Carpenter!
Okay, I can finally tell you what the project is: It's a new musical revue I'll be creating, called Pure Imagination - The World of Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse. We begin performances on November 15 and officially open the first week of December.

BK, before you go bounding along to a new project, I want to report that I haven't received my new EastCoast Singer CD! Does anyone know the Complaint Website address for Paypal??

Mikey has heard of both Frederick March AND Veronica Lake? This could mean The Rapture!

"Perpetually Licentious" would be an interesting title, too. I've known a few people about whom a story could be written under that title.
I don't think the disguise works:

Very glad to hear this! And that there was a little sunshine after this ordeal.
I was thinking this morning that I've rejoined the Big Happy Pants Club, but it wasn't 16 lbs. That's impressive.

That's what depression can do for you! My goal is to continue working on the weight loss. We'll see how I do!
That was Nicky's post.

Well the news that iGoogle is closing down is most distressing. It has been my HomePage for several years, and I have yet to find anything as easy to use and as adaptable. I have looked at several, but I haven't made a choice yet.
Yahoo is okay....and Excite is okay.....but neither is as convenient or personal as iGoogle can be.
Got to get the get while the getting is good apparently isn't easy any more.
This is a story that would be funnier than it is if it weren't true. Sounds like a Mel Brooks joke gone bad.

Pain-be-gone vibes for Jennifer.
Fredric March: A Song Is Born
DR Jane - you would be surprised at how many companies make cell phone and tablet accessories. I am sure you can find a cover that is to your satisfaction.
DR ryacko - congratulations also to you, on your nomination!!
God speed, Scott Carpenter!
The right side of my neck near the top of my shoulder has been bothering me for a few days. It feels slightly inflamed. I've been icing it. And have sort of found a good position to sleep. It actually doesn't hurt when i bike. But it doesn't feel too great when i'm sitting at the computer.
Not really sure what to do. Maybe i'll try the heating pad. And i'll try not to lift anything much.
Such a sad episode of Glee tonight. :(
and my Dearest Enemy (if it EVER ships Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!)

BK, is there any chance that if you plan for it from the beginning; that you could produce a cast recording of this show?
TCB, a recording will certainly be in the cards, for sure.
