Post by: bk on October 25, 2013, 12:16:52 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes were the fun part and had musical staging, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently learning their MOOsical staging.

It's definitely not been a good week. The cough and sore throat persist and because I've been sitting and lying around so much, I've now got backache. I need to be fit to fly to Germany on Monday but there's a big storm brewing for that day so my travel plans that day may get totally scuppered if aircraft get cancelled.

Had a lot of fun at "Rocky Horror Show" last night. Hadn't seen the show live before and this was a fun, over-the-top production. They used the set for Young Frankenstein, which is playing in rep. So, they really had a slab that descended from above. And when they sang, "There's a light/Over at the Frankenstein place ...," well, it really was.

Good morning, all! I slept late burrowed under a lot of blankets and quilts in a chilly room.  It was quite wonderful. I am up and moving, but I have no plans.  I had thought about taking buses down to Toyland, but I believe I'll do that tomorrow morning.

I have no other plans for today. I have a walk to the bank and that's about it.

Good morning, late, all.

Had to arise at dawn's crack to take the car in for its regular maintenance (150,000 miles - count'em) and am back with a loaner because there's some major work to be done -- namely, replacement of the engine and transmission mounts.  It's a regular old age thing for cars, but is the kind of condition you don't drive the car with, so no choice.  That plus a few other things is going to come to a $1200 tab.  Oy!

More coffee!

I had an interesting time at the Austin Film Festival yesterday.

I did one of their Roundtable sessions, and sitting next to me at one of those tables was actor Robert Walden (LOU GRANT), who has just moved to Austin.  We will probably have lunch together in the next week or two.

Also, a guy came up to me, asked if I was "Michael Druxman," then told me that, when he was a teenager back in the early 1970s, he would come to my house in Agoura Hills, CA, and watch the 16mm movies I would show almost every night in my living room.  He said that watching movies in my house is what inspired him to go to film school.

Later, he became a psychotherapist, but now he wants to try screenwriting, which is why he was at the Austin Film Festival.

Blu-ray

UNDERGROUND - 1928 silent film directed by Anthony Asquith on the BFI label. I got this mainly to see the rare 1928 location filming of the London Underground and other parts of London. It contains a traditional symphonic score by Neil Brand and one by Chris Watson, which is not music but a sound design - creating suitable sound effects, which I think I preferred over the symphonic score.

THE FURY (Arrow Films) - I always saw this as one of Brian De Palma's lesser efforts but seeing it again after many years, I found it far better than my original opinion. It's held up well over the years.

Today, I will be doing another Roundtable session at 3 pm, but before that, I'm going to be at UT where cinema students will be pitching their screenplay stories at me.

Should I be prepared to duck?

To paraphrase my Grandma:

Have yourself a very early Christmas
Go buy something nice
Spend a lot of money and do not think twice

Here we are in October days
Smart and sober days, we thought
Still we fell for the standard shtick
Not yet sick of Nick, we bought

Some day soon we’ll all be in the poorhouse
If we spend too free
Hang the IOU there on your Christmas tree
Still have yourself a very early Christmas spree

In the 70's & possinly the 80's I used to read Weekly Variety and I remember there was a little ad there every week to her memory.

Also there was an actor named Zach Norman who would have an ad to promote himself and this led to him getting a role in Romancing the stone.

My Fair Lady being restricted.

Do they mean Jews and Blacks aren't allowed to do it?  :-)

Which reminds me of a story. Groucho Marx was invited to a restricted club in (I think) Beverly Hills. He was informed that he wasn't allowed to go into the pool because he was jewish. He then asked since his daughter was half jewish could she go into the pool up to her knees?

I'm not sure if I posted this the other day on here or on FB, but:

I was living in a W. Hollywood apartment at Fountain and Sweetzer when Karyn was killed, 1/2 block away from her apartment.  I used to walk by that building all the time.

Interesting because in the ibdb and I believe the Best Plays of... (which I don't have here) an actress named Evelyn Page is credited. Maybe she left rather quickly after the opening and Rae Allen stepped in

Do you find swimming helps your shoulders?  I find it hard to swim with a sore shoulder.

Speaking of shoulders, for some odd reason my left shoulder is bothering me today. It feels like i exercised it a lot. But the only thing i did was bike.

I find swimming extremely helpful for my right shoulder that almost always hurts since the breaks and replacement.  It is also the only exercise for my upper body that doesn't regularly cause me to be in more pain.  I do have sore muscles right now, but that is regular sore muscles that anyone would have after exercising when they haven't done it in awhile.

It was hard to swim at first but I have a good idea what is pain I can safely work through or need to back off from the activity if possible.

I hope your shoulder feels better.

Of course, having a smart dog in the house would certainly alleviate much of your concern...and the dog could be trained to go for help, too...especially if you fall into a well.

And having pets and toddlers in the house is an extra responsibility if you are sick and have no one to watch them.

It's after noon, and neither Publisher's Clearing House nor the state lotto commission have called to announce my winnings.

That is a shame DR ChasSmith. But don't despair...I got an email yesterday from a Mrs. Sara Khan letting me know that she will soon begin putting large amounts of money into my checking account, until it reaches 2.5 million. I will kindly share whatever I get.

Thank you for your kindness, DR MBarnum.

Maybe it's because your shoulder problem is from an actual injury.

I decided I won't go biking later today. It is quite windy and cold. And my left shoulder/arm still feels like it had a hard work out.  Plus I am supposed to take my niece to her swim team practice later.  She has her first swim meet tomorrow. Not sure how it works (and i won't be there because they have to leave at 6:45am and it is 30 minutes away).

Doug is the approaching storm really so strong that it might cancel or postpone your flight?

Yes. There's a severe weather warning with gusts of more than 80mph forecast and British Airways have already said flights may be affected. I tried to re-schedule my flight but there's nothing available. My flight is late in the day and hopefully the worst of the storm will be over by then. The timing and extent of the storm isn't clear though.

Catching Up #2

RE: programs in Cast Album LP

I had ones from Molly Brown, Tenderloin and On a Clear Day. Which is interesting because they have a picture and bio of Rae Allen who played Mrs. Hatch. Which is interesting because she was not part of the opening night cast. So either she was let go before the show opened or she was a replacement cast member that made it to the program

I just checked the published vocal score; Rae Allen played Mrs Hatch on opening night, Michael.

Interesting because in the ibdb and I believe the Best Plays of... (which I don't have here) an actress named Evelyn Page is credited. Maybe she left rather quickly after the opening and Rae Allen stepped in

It was Rae Allen.  IBDB is once again wrong.

Today for lunch, some lean sliced meat, 1/3 of a yam (sliced), and one whole portobello mushroom (broken into pieces).

Actually quite tasty (he says as he looks out the window at the Indian restaurant across the street).

What a small world!  That's a very nice story, Druxy!

I hope everyone posts pictures of their Halloween costumes!

It is Friday, October 25....two months until Christmas...in case you didn't know.

To paraphrase my Grandma:

Have yourself a very early Christmas
Go buy something nice
Spend a lot of money and do not think twice

Here we are in October days
Smart and sober days, we thought
Still we fell for the standard shtick
Not yet sick of Nick, we bought

Some day soon we’ll all be in the poorhouse
If we spend too free
Hang the IOU there on your Christmas tree
Still have yourself a very early Christmas spree

I love this!  You should write a second verse so it'll be a complete song. :D

DR Jane, did you say you have an actual shoulder replacement?  Like they do hip replacements?  And this is from having broken it?

Several years ago a playful Newfoundland knocked me down sideways (I didn't see it coming).  I went down hard on a hard surface and couldn't get back up.  My right shoulder was broken in 4 places.  I was lucky to have an excellent surgeon.  He repaired two of the breaks and for another hour attempted to repair the other two.  He had to replace the ball of my shoulder.  It was all rather horrific.  I was in physical therapy for two years and walked away even though it was still helping.  On the upside I have far more mobility than expected, mostly because I worked so damn hard to get it in spite of the pain.

My other shoulder I fell on all by myself.  At least I didn't break anything, only bruised the bone which shouldn't be hurting anymore but of course it does.

That's pretty cool!

SPOILERS:  SHAMELESS PLUG AHEAD: Next Friday, Theater Artists Olympia (TAO) is having a fund raiser so that we can put on The Rocky Horror Show.  It's been done here in Olympia a few times and it always sells out, so we think it'll do well.  We just have to raise money to actually put it on.  We will also be setting up an Indiegogo (http://www.indiegogo.com/) project to raise additional funds, because our "TAO OF THE DEAD CARN-EVIL" won't make enough to rent a space, but it will (hopefully) give us a nice chunk o' change to get things started.  It's also to help get the word out that we want to put on this show, so hopefully by the time we actually do the performances, it'll be completely paid for...hopefully. ;D

Last ngiht was the first rehearsal for IAWL.  It is strange to be doing a show at my home theatere, and yet I have only worked with one or two of these people; and never at this theater.

Looking forward to hearing about the rehearsals and performances!

What nice feedback from the psychotherapist.  Did you know Robert Walden in LA?

No, I had never met him before, but we had many friends and associates in common.

Daryl Anderson, who was also on LOU GRANT, was once a publicity client.

I'm looking forward to lunching with him soon.

I'm back from the Austin Film Festival today...and totally exhausted.

I received the 3 DVDs I was expecting, but I am too tired to watch tonight.

I had a fun time, though.

Hello, everyone.

Ah, Druxy, was the psychotherapist an invited guest when he watched your movies? He didn't sneak into your house and watch while you were asleep, did he? Or watch through the windows while standing outside?

I hope everyone posts pictures of their Halloween costumes!

It is Friday, October 25....two months until Christmas...in case you didn't know.

To paraphrase my Grandma:

Have yourself a very early Christmas
Go buy something nice
Spend a lot of money and do not think twice

Here we are in October days
Smart and sober days, we thought
Still we fell for the standard shtick
Not yet sick of Nick, we bought

Some day soon we’ll all be in the poorhouse
If we spend too free
Hang the IOU there on your Christmas tree
Still have yourself a very early Christmas spree

I love the song and I love your Grandma!

I've never been inside, but it's an experience just to drive by. Let's say it has atmosphere--in spades.

It's so quiet.

I'd love to be able to say that! Actually, it's relatively quiet at the moment. My neighbors must be absent.

Both shoulders are and I'm rather annoyed they have both been worse lately.  It is probably a good idea you skipped the ride today, hopefully tomorrow you can go.

The weather has gotten really cold here. And windy. And dreary. So probably not too many bike rides left this season unless we get a mild spell. :(

The show has started and it's almost filled!  The audience isn't very responsive, though.  Hopefully, they'll pick up a bit as the show goes on.

We are back from Oxford and a lovely Friday night date.  Had a quick dinner at Chipotle uptown, picked up our tickets, and visited in the lobby with some Glee Club alumni friends.  The concert featured both the Collegiate Chorale (mixed) and the Men's Glee Club.  Both groups were superb, as usual.  Richard, and lots of other alums, joined the Club for their traditional final numbers.  Hall Auditorium was packed.

Just what I needed...

That's mean...funny, but mean.

;)

This is the photo that I also posted on Facebook that DR RLP is talking about....so far I have more people liking and sharing this photo than any other on my feed in the last four months.

I got this photo from my niece who, also, posted it on Facebook.  She said she asked God for forgiveness before she posted it.  LOL!

I have no idea why I am still awake, since I got up this morning at 5:00.  I had to watch the premiere of GRIMM.  I am not sure I am going to like the direction this show is going this season, but I guess I will keep watching for now.  A friend and fellow actor (who George also knows) has gotten two different call backs  for this season, so hopefully he will get cast this year.

Back from a rehearsal.  These days just whiz by, don't they?  I don't even remember the last time I posted before leaving.  Did I do a meal report - grilled cheese and bacon sandwich and a small onion rings.  Did I do a package report - nada.  I did prepare some mp3s for rehearsals.  Made the route adjustment and it worked pretty well.

Trying to synch the iPod so I have the tracks I need for rehearsal and its synching over 8,000 songs - I only need five but don't know how to manage that on the iPod without doing it all.
