Title: GREETING THE DAY
Post by: bk on October 30, 2013, 12:11:50 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes greeted the day and the day was moot, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently greeting the cud.

Continued from yesterday's posts:

For the pre-show, intermission and post-show, I helped sell merchandise.  They were selling Rufus' CD, "Sing Me the Songs: Celebrating The Works Of Kate McGarrigle (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CSCIZ6Y/)" for $20.  Kate McGarrigle was his mother (she died almost three years ago).  He also had already autographed copies for $25.  He didn't come out to autograph anything.

Lucy had two of her CDs for sale ($15 each or 2 for $20).  One of them, "There's a Last Time for Everything (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FCAD320/)," was just released two weeks ago.  She came out at intermission and after the whole show and signed autographs!  AND she gave me autographed copies of BOTH her CDs because I helped sell!  My friend Margo was also selling and she ALSO got free autographed CDs!  She was very nice during the autographing sessions. :D

Several people asked and we found out that they are half-siblings.  They have the same father (Louden Wainwright III) but they have different mothers.  His was the aforementioned Kate McGarrigle and her mother is Suzzy Roche, who is one of the Roche Sisters.

And the word of the day is: CREPUSCULE!

That was  the play that was basis for William Finn's "25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" musical.

Wasn't that the play that was basis for William Finn's "25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" musical?

ndeed, per wikipedia:

"The musical was based upon C-R-E-P-U-S-C-U-L-E, an original improvisational play created by Rebecca Feldman and performed by The Farm, a New-York-based improvisational comedy troupe. Sarah Saltzberg, Wendy Wasserstein's weekend nanny, was in the original production, and Wasserstein recommended that Finn see the show. Finn brought Rachel Sheinkin on board, and they worked together with Feldman to transform "C-R-E-P-U-S-C-U-L-E" into a scripted full-length musical."

I think we should have a day where we ask a question and then answer it! :-)

Good morning, all! First good night's sleep in a long time, I'm happy to report. I got a good 8-9 hours in.

Today, a trip to City Center for a meeting at 11:00 with my adopted son Joshie and my friend Peter Foley.  I hope the meeting is not too long, but I will be happy to see both of them.

And that's my day.

DR Jane (and anyone else interested in books):

Yesterday I reviewed a book by one of my favorite new authors.  It was an advanced copy that I got on netgalley (a site where bloggers/librarians/reviewers are allowed to review books that have not come out yet).  Anyhow in my netgalley profile (as a way to try to make the publishers want to let me review their books) I said that I would put links to my reviews on twitter.

Anyhow I did tag the author. I don't normally do this but it's easier if anyone wants to check her out on twitter.  So when I got home last night the author had tweeted that she read and liked my review of her book.  That is so crazy to me.

Well, as I expected, and then forgot, the elevator was indeed still out of order when I got home.  The three flights were bad enough without being physically challenged because they slope inward toward the first floor. Number 59 is at the bottom of page 2.  Number 60 is at the top of page 3.

And so on, and so forth....30 posts to a page, but be aware that the first post on page 1 is not numbered (or can be considered as "0").  The second post is "Reply 1".

I'm on facebook with two authors, one whom is fun to be on with and carries on discussions with his FB friends.  I've had several with him about Bernese Mountain Dogs.

Very interesting and somewhat disturbing photos DR JOHN G.

Yes and I'm glad someone else said it-lol

I have been laughing over the Fall Girl photo all afternoon. Some people think it's a dog, which makes me laugh even harder. (And, yes, I know I'm warped. But it has helped with the work day I've had.)

You know, I have been on HHW for I don't know how many millions of years, and I still have not figured out how to tell when the page is gonna turn.

Each post is numbered.  Number 29 is at the bottom of page 1.  Number 30 is at the top of page 2.

Number 59 is at the bottom of page 2.  Number 60 is at the top of page 3.

And so on, and so forth....30 posts to a page, but be aware that the first post on page 1 is not numbered (or can be considered as "0").  The second post is "Reply 1".

Thank you for the explanation.

I expect I will put about the same amount of time in watching these numbers as I do looking how many posts I, or anyone else, have made ;D

That's very nice the author responded.  I'm also guessing it is a complimentary review or you wouldn't have tagged the author.

I'm on facebook with two authors, one whom is fun to be on with and carries on discussions with his FB friends.  I've had several with him about Bernese Mountain Dogs.

It was complimentary (4.5/5 stars). But I truly was not expecting her to read it. Even though I really liked it I was fairly critical about a few things. So that sort of made me wince knowing that she read it.

I am going to watch Survivor. I sort of originally liked the idea of the loved ones being there with the past contestants. But I don't think it's really working out since most people are left without their loved ones. :(

I follow a bunch of my favorite authors on facebook. A few only post updates. But there are a few who post daily. And some of the stuff is great. I absolutely love this aspect of facebook.

re: netgalley (site for reviewing books).  I was on such a high before. This site really does take you on a roller coaster.

Probably my favorite author has a new book coming out in April. The book is on netgalley for Canadian reviewers only. I thought that helped my chances of being accepted (they accept or deny your request). Plus she's written like 25 books and I have read every single one of them.  Well today I got rejected. And boy did that make me sad.  It's silly. But you sort of get your hopes up that you will get to read a new series by your favorite author six months before it comes out.

:(

Good morning. I watched a local police chase on the computer this morning. At one point they were about two miles from my house; at another point they were about a half mile from DR Kerry's house. They caught the bad guys, but not until a car accident, unfortunately.
Scary.

Yup.

When I drove back to work from lunch, I could see the Capitol Blvd. Bridge (which goes over I-5) and there were emergency vehicles right underneath it!  I don't know if a cop just pulled someone over and they just happened to stop there, or if someone jumped and landed on the freeway below. :-\

My niece can use some good vibes.  If her unborn baby does not get into position by tomorrow, so they can induce labor, the doctor might do a c-section.

Correction, concerns forcing c-section are gone for now :)

DR George I hope no one jumped.  When we lived in Tiburon and Keith crossed the Golden Gate every day to and from work he would often call to say he was stuck in bridge traffic due to a jumper.

My cousin's wife lived in Tiburon before I ever knew her and worked for a news station.  The first time I mentioned about Keith getting stuck in traffic she laughed, apologized and then said the office had lotteries on the next date there would be a jumper.  Sad how often it happened that people actually bet on it.

I really love Goodreads.  They just sent me an email regarding an upcoming  Live Video Chat with Markus Zusak author of "The Book Thief".  He will also be discussing the the movie adaptation.  I've never done a live chat but this one I will try to do.  I requested an email reminder the day before.

I watched part of a trailer for the movie and it looks good.  I think they had to leave out the narrator though.

Good evening!

To catch up, I saw Sarah Brightman in concert on Monday night.  She was phenomenal.  She sang her weird stuff, as well as some opera - she knock "Nessun Dorma" out of the park - the best I ever heard.  And she did "The Phantom of the Opera" as well as "Time to Say Goodbye".  It was a audio as well as a visual feast as the projections going on behind her were fantastic.

Last night, I saw the National Tour of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.  It's such a good time, a real piece of fluff and it would not be worth going over its flaws here, because it was such a well done production.  The costumes were out of this world.  If was a fun night of theatre - and that's about all.

My mom and I saw her perform in Seattle quite a few years ago and my mom didn't like her non-operatic stuff at all.  She (my mom) loves Sarah when she sings operatically, but the "pop" music just doesn't interest her.  I like most of the music that she's recorded (that I've heard).

No sign of the effin elevator repairmen, which most likely means I will have another climb tomorrow after physical therapy.  I've sent an email to my landlord, which I'm sure will do a great deal to see the repair is done. So, I cannot pick up my mail or take garbage to the basement. I am not amused.

If I was in NYC I'd get the mail for you and may even take the garbage to the basement for you.  Alas! I am not there :)

Tomorrow, we have our quasi-monthly staff meeting and since it's Halloween, some people will dress up in costumes.  And I actually have a costume!  Well, it's the "brain" that was created for Theater Artists Olympia's production of BK's very own The Brain From Planet X that I was in (I didn't play The Brain, though)!  I'll wear all black clothes (I don't have a cape, like in BK's original production, but I did get some black gloves) and the brain helmet, and that's my costume! :D I don't have any make-up for my face, but that's okay.

I'll bring a camera and have someone take a picture tomorrow.

On Friday, TAO is having a "TAO OF THE DEAD CARN-EVIL" fund raiser and I'll wear the Brain costume for that.  One of our board members is a professional make-up artist (she created the ear for our stage production of "Reservoir Dogs") and she said that she'll put some make-up on me for our fund raiser.  I'll definitely take another picture of that!
