Well, you've read the notes, the notes were posted in November, and now it is time for you to post until the November cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: PHANTASMAGORIC!
-
My property taxes have now been paid.
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
When I was young there was no such thing as Halloween celebrations in the UK. Over the years it's gradually become more of an event although I only get one or two knocks on the door from treat or treaters. I certainly don't open my door for the little monsters though.
-
I hope DC Joshie didn't try to make a great escape while DR Sandra was handing out the homework.
-
Good morning, all.
Busy day today, with the gas company installing two additional propane tanks and running pipes for the generator. Perhaps an appearance by the electrician -- not sure about that. And then rehearsal tonight.
-
Coffee!
-
good morning to all
-
i thought someone was going to ask if Matt Damon was wearing his costume from the hot tub scene in Behind the Candelabra and realize that he was in Studio City and not West Hollywood and the costume would not be appropriate for the City of Studio.
-
I hope DC Joshie didn't try to make a great escape while DR Sandra was handing out the homework.
I was thinking the same thing last night.
-
TOD:
I have 4 more episodes of HELL ON WHEELS, Season 2, to watch.
This is an excellent show.
-
I am recording a radio interview today with Gregg Hunter for future airing.
-
For those of you who are interested in audio books:
My one-woman play, CLARA BOW, is now available for download on both audible.com and iTunes, and should be listed on Amazon within a day or two. It has music and sound effect like an old time radio drama.
Nancy McLemore does a terrific job as Clara.
-
That concludes my news for the day.
;)
-
Good morning, all! I have no plans of the day except for some work at the computer on some essays written by the Man From Philadelphia. Depending on the weather later, I may step out and have dinner with my good friend Bruce Pomahac.
-
Good morning, all.
-
It's a day late, but the sentiment's the same:

Friday morning greetings! Today is as beautiful as yesterday was ugly. I'm going out soon to have my hair cut.
-
TOD: Barbecue. If there's time, Dragonslayer and Robbie Coltrane's Cracker. But I doubt there'll be time.
-
Cillaliz, I would love to hear more about Ghostland Bros. I enjoy some of the songs on the album, but the whole thing seems to have been put together by people who have never been near a musical in their lives. Too much exposition and narrative. But that's the album.
Have fun.
-
Halloween was canceled last night because of bad weather....it is rescheduled for tonight, but I do not expect Matt Damon.
-
Here the basic rule is that you have to have your porch lights on AND some sort of Halloween decoration/pumpkin outside. Too many people have automatic lights that turn on outside. Most people seem to follow this.
-
Had a nice haircut and shower this morning. A benefit of being retired.
-
TOD:
DVD - Making the Boys, a documentary about the play and movie THE BOYS IN THE BAND which is very interesting.
CD - Simply and GUYS & DOLLS revival cast
-
IT's a shame because my little niece is so much better this morning. yesterday she was quite out of it and didn't eat all day (maybe a cracker and some water). But today she seems bright and cheery and has already had a bunch of crackers and applesauce.
-
We were fortunate to have great Halloween weather last night in Salem, Oregon, 97302.
I went over to watch Cole and Harper do the trick or treat. Cole was the spitting image of Mario (the video game character) and Harper was Princess Peach (also a video game character, I believe).
-
TOD:
DVR:
Lots of monster movies recorded off of TCM...HORROR HOTEL, HORROR CASTLE, CASTLE OF THE LIVING DEAD, ect.
CD:
Soundtrack to JATT BOYS PUTTEN JAT DE

Rob and I were just talking about all the nearby communities that postponed last night and he said, "Trick or treating in the rain builds character!"

I love HORROR HOTEL! I try to make each of DR MBarnum's visits exactly like that hotel.

Off to see
the Wizard Tina - bye for now!

From DR Jennifer:
True. But it wasn't because it was too heavy. It's just she had her own bag, plus the donations box for the children's hospital. Plus she was trying to keep her tree hat on.
;D That was a lot to deal with.
-
I'm up, I'm up. I got just about eight hours of sleep - would have gotten another thirty minutes if the gas company person hadn't rung the doorbell at eight to upgrade or update the meter. I did fall back asleep rather quickly.
-
Funny Halloween story DR Vixmom, the one about the church party not the Vixter being ill.
-
DR Jennifer I think it isn't nice of teachers to give out homework on Halloween, even older kids. Bryan had to miss one year because the only teacher to hand out homework gave them hours of work to do.
-
Great pics of the Vixfamily!!
I love the expressions of the two looking at our lovely DR Sandra.
-
From DR George:
She also made a couple of tins filled with drink mixes (which are in Ziploc bags inside the tins). One is of cinnamon cappuccino drink mix and the other is filled with chocolate cinnamon cappuccino drink mix. I have to copy the instructions from the recipe book my sister got these from, print them out and notate the changes from the original recipes so that the winners know how to prepare the drinks. Essentially, the individual ingredients are supposed to be layered in glass jars, but my sister didn't have any, but I had these tins. So, we just mixed all the ingredients together in bags and put those in the tins. They smelled good.
I think these will be popular.

TOD
Not much because it's a crazy few days. Back to some good stuff tomorrow.
However, HORROR HOTEL (actually, CITY OF THE DEAD) has been in the bedroom DVD player for the last three nights -- I've tried watching it, listening to the commentary, etc., and haven't yet managed to stay awake for it. But I really love this one, so it's still in the player. I need to move it to the other room and enjoy it wide awake.

From what I've read it's in the format of an old radio show. I'll be curious to see it and will tell you more then

DR Jennifer I think it isn't nice of teachers to give out homework on Halloween, even older kids. Bryan had to miss one year because the only teacher to hand out homework gave them hours of work to do.
oh they have no school today. So the homework is only for next week.
-
if the gas company person hadn't rung the doorbell at eight to upgrade or update the meter.
If you can get the landlord to spring for the installation of "radio" meters, the utility companies will never have to ring your doorbell ever again.
-
Oh wow is it windy out.
-
Propane installation took exactly two hours, so that much is ready for inspection on Monday, then they'll do their final hookup on Tuesday. The electrician still has to do his installation and wiring, and that will probably happen on those days as well. Then the final testing and inspections happen, and -- voila! -- several thousand dollars later I've got a generator! Oy!

At the poorhouse.

GHOSTLAND BROS was a sellout in Indiana a couple of weeks ago.....hope you enjoy it. I couldn't afford to go!

Our utilities installed them free of charge....of course I am in Iowa

I am very excited to see it. The Orpheum holds about 2500. I don't think it's a sell out, but then a lot of people here wait until the last minute. There were a number of ticket give aways on public radio, so I'm guessing there may still be tickets available.
-
They must have released some tickets today becasue there are some really good seats available via ticketmaster. The student price is only $27.50 and the next is $46 or something like that. It's not too bad. The most expensive are in the $77 range

Glad to hear Emily Skinner's still with the show. She got some of the best reviews when it played Atlanta, as I recall.

Greetings, All, and Happy November!
BK, I love the Matt Damon showing at your house. I know he's a regular Dad with 4 or 5 girls of his own. And I am not surprised at all that he was out just being a regular Dad. I'm sure it was a joy to see it in action.
I'm still disappointed not to be able to see Kritzerland this week, but the Ovations call times will prohibit even a matinee for me. :(
-
The elevator is still out and there have no signs or sounds that anyone is working on it. I've sent an angry email to the landlord, which i doubt will get a response.
At 5:00, I'll walk down and see what the postman has left and then endure the grisly climb back up. I have the feeling the will be a really shitty weekend.
-

I wish we had one.

DR elmore VIBES they will be able to repair the elevator by Monday. I'm guessing if it wasn't done today it won't happen over the weekend. I'll be very happy if I'm wrong about this.

I think you're right. The thing that really pisses me off is the landlord's nonchalant attitude of "why should my tenants know anything?" No news about a bedbug infestation, no news about the lift . . .

TOD
While in Germany I got the following Blu-rays although haven’t had a chance to watch them yet:
SAMSON AND DELILAH
THE CARDINAL
THE PREMATURE BURIAL/HAUNTED PALACE
Plus a DVD of THE DOLL a 1975 BBC serial written by Francis Durbridge. I used to love his TV serials. This DVD is only available in Germany, where the Durbridge serials were very popular - they used to remake them with German actors.
Also just got and watched a rental Blu–ray of SIDE EFFECTS which bk’s notes intrigued me about last week. I enjoyed the film, especially the first half or two thirds when it wasn’t clear where it was heading but when the film changed gear it became increasingly absurd.
-
The landlord just emailed me! He says it will be repaired hopefully on Tuesday.

Absolutely you should be notified of these things.

At least you received something. Did it include an explanation for the delay?
-
So, I returned some library books, picked up some new ones, and went to the grocery. I'm now ready to make caramel corm for the AAUW Holiday Bazaar and tacos for dinner tomorrow.

Remember when we rented that 5th floor apartment in a 1-elevator building? The elevator had been repaired but could not be used because it hadn't yet been inspected. Glad that was before Richard and I both had known cardiac issues. Also glad that this month's apartment is on the first floor - just 6 steps into the building.
Repair vibes for DR Elmore's elevator!

Yep. The service man could not repair the motor on site and had to take it to the shop

We just got a 3 out of 5 stars mediocre to lousy review on Amazon by one pissy k. clarke in Berlin who runs the Operetta Research Center. If any of you DRs who've heard it and liked it could post something positive, that would be nice.
-
Hell's Bells!
I have totally neglected to get to that. Sorry, DR Elmore. Will do so either late tonight or tomorrow.

Next Tuesday, Nov. 5. Big bond issue to build a new middle school and renovate the high school.
-
Ran Sandy's show and it's quite in good shape and we'll hone it next week. Then Brent came over and we ran his three songs - two from Busker Alley, in which he co-starred - She Has a Way and the title song - and then I Wanna Be Like You from the Jungle Book. Great to see him, as always, and he's in stellar voice.
-
Then I had a cup of chicken soup and a quesadilla. Normally I'd leave in about thirty minutes but I just can't get down there so early so that I have to sit in a cold restaurant eating stuff I don't want to eat. So, I'll leave at five or even a bit later and even if it were completely insane and took ninety minutes I'd STILL be there early.
-
Hello!
-
Terrible news about the shooting at LAX.
-
Hello, DR KevinH!

I cannot wait for elections to be over. Is it next week or the following? the sooner the better.
Me too! The ads for the Governor of Virginia candidates are driving me crazy! I voted today since I won't be back in time to vote Tuesday.

Our big 80 black Belgian Shepherd, maybe black Shepherd mix, raised Bosco our tortie and white. When Bosco was little she rode all around the house hanging onto Belle.

Is Kevin here in LA yet?
-
I'll leave in about thirty minutes and hope for the best.
-
Keith is very funny. He won't get his own facebook page and uses mine instead. This week I have 3 new friends that are from his childhood. I have family members he meets doing genealogy and one person who turned out not to be related.
-
Page four? Really? Trick or treat?
-
Is Kevin here in LA yet?
No, BK! I'm supposed to arrive at 11:40 tomorrow morning.

DR Kevin I'm glad you didn't fly in today.
SAFE AND EASY TRAVELS!!!

I'm hoping LAX will be operating normally tomorrow.

DR Kevin I'm glad you didn't fly in today.

Thanks, DR Jane! Me too!

Hello, everyone.
Travel vibes to DR Kevin.
-
Elevator repair vibes to Larry. I'm sure Tuesday can't come soon enough.
-
The manager and owner of this building care about the building, but not so much about the tenants. At some of the other buildings they don't even care about the building.
-
The weather here was mild (mid 60s) but so windy. Ridiculously windy. There are branches on the roads and leaves blowing everywhere. It seems to have calmed down. But part of the city is without power (not me).
I rarely go out to eat. And of course the whole way there had power. But not the one building I was going to. :(
When I got there people were eating by candlelight (the kitchen was still open). But then by the time my party arrived they decided they were closing the kitchen even though they had told me they were open. :(
-
And I'm having some pizza for dinner!

Is this your new favorite place?
I'm not a pizza lover, but this made even me want some. Two Boots has an LA location or two, but nothing near me. It's probably just as well. From an allergy standpoint it's best that I avoid wheat, cheese, and tomato sauce--and I don't eat meat.
-
I'm going to watch Masterchef Junior. My nieces love it (it is one of the only shows they are allowed to watch).
I really didn't think I would like it. But these kids are amazing. I cannot believe what they can make.

I had one installed in Virginia at no charge.

After much resistance I finally purchased a white-noise machine. This one has nature sounds as well. A couple years ago, JRand very kindly sent me some DVDs of nature sounds and I do enjoy them. But my CD player does not have a REPEAT function, so I needed to either buy a new CD player or a while-noise machine to keep it on all night. I still do not like much noise--even pleasant sounds--although I did tune it to THUNDER the other night when my neighbors in a nearby building had their usual late-night balcony party. It didn't drown them out, but it did make me feel better. SUMMER NIGHT is rather nice, although it may be a bit confusing going into winter.
-
Love the photos, Singdaw.
-
I just looked up HORROR HOTEL on Netflix. Did I ever mention that I used to date an anatomy professor? Uh, we'll leave that to the memoirs, I think. Great stories, though.
-
TTFN.
-
Ugh.
A Facebook "friend" from high school, who is a self admitted "Jesus Freak," and whose posts are only about God, Jesus, the bible, his love of guns, and hunting, just posted his latest which is a photo of himself (In a tshirt showing the bible on the front) posing next to a dead, gutted deer carcas which he had killed.
Part of his comment was "God made Bambi commit suicide for me."
Guess who I just deleted as a Facebook friend.

Yep they were good. But I find the place over-priced. And I really wanted Chinese food. But it was still really good.

I went to Ghost Brothers of Darkland County tonight. This view pretty much echos my feelings

I will say I liked it a lot more than I thought I would and I'm very very glad I went. It just still needs work. The actors were all great. The band was good it's John Mellencamp's band - or at least part of it, minus John Mellencamp . The songs were good, even most of the story was good but the staging is a bit goofy. I sort of like the radio show concept and it sort of detracted. They weren't playing actors doing a radio show, they were the characters in the story on the radio show but they all sang their parts near the prop mic like they were actors telling the story. It was a little awkward.
The house was far from full. There was a decent crowd, but nowhere near what it should have been. Of course there was a standing ovation, but I do think it was deserved. I hope they keep working on the staging

My WIFI is basically D.O.A. tonight, so I will catch up tomorrow.

Page five? Really?

Back from a very interesting rehearsal, in which I assembled the disparate parts into a whole - the one act version - I have been against this from the very first conversation when it was suggested to me, yet the suggestion kept reoccurring so I did orders for both a one and two act version. After this evening, I knew it had to be two acts and so did the cast. You just can't ask an audience to sit there for eighty-five or so minutes of one song after another. They need the break. And frankly, I have a great act one closer and a great act two opener so two acts it is, and we'll do that version on Monday night.
Poor Jane Noseworthy is so sick - she could barely talk. I felt so bad for her. But she thinks she'll get through the Kritzerland show. Someone is bringing her a little prednisone, which is great for throat problems. Young Sami lost her voice about six weeks ago and she took two and voila - she had it back enough to sing within four hours.

Really? Page five?

This is a way to begin a month?
-
Just who is MIA? And I don't mean Farrow.
-
I, for one, cannot wait to jog in the morning - it's been a week.
-
Even George has abandoned us.
-
Hardly sporting to have such errant and truant behavior this day and night.
-
However, since we're so damn close and since George will obviously not be here to pull his weight -
-
Let me just take us to page six.
-
Wow, even that didn't take us to page six.
