Well, you've read the notes, the notes assembled the notes, and now it is time for you to post until the assembled cows come home.

Good morning!  I got up to get ready for my 9 am flight and saw that I had a text message from Alaska Airlines.  My flight has been delayed till 11:15 and I should arrive at LAX shortly after 2 pm.   There go my plans to meet my friend Paul at the Ahmanson for The Sunshine Boys at 2.  It was going to be a challenge to get there in time anyway.

I did not attend many school dances.....but several friends and I had parties throughout the year - we rented a local hall and invited only people we knew....but from different schools....

I have always enjoyed dancing and really like all of the social dances except the Country Line dances which seem to really have nothing to do with counts or actual dancing....

Good morning, all! After several good nights of sleep, last night was a mess. I recall no dreams and no running to the bathroom, just a lot of awake time and tossing and turning: blankets off, then on, off again. Oy!

So, I'm up, bathed, dressed, and ready for my second cup of coffee.  Matthew, my best friend from college, is braving the wilds of Brooklyn and coming by today to visit. I haven't seen him in a long time, so it will be fun to catch up.

Set your clocks back an hour tonight!

Thanks to BK and DR Elmore for clock reminders!

I still find this hard to remember, since they changed the schedule for it several years ago.  Still wish it was middle of October.  For no particular reason.  I just liked it then.  Oh well, it's the "good" change, since we gain an hour.  Still a good thing.

TOD

I'm afraid "Dance" and I have just managed to co-exist on this planet without serious damage to either one of us or to the environment.

First actual dance attended:  Don't remember the occasion, but it was held in the courtyard of Rodgers Junior High School, Fort Lauderdale, during my seventh grade year (1961/62).  What I most recall about it, with some horror, is the other kids trying to teach me how to do that newfangled Twist.  Oy!

I must have managed myself okay at the Senior Prom, though I remember most everything about it except the actual dancing.  Probably got by with the minimum possible dance floor participation.

Every time I'd be at a party - or whatever - with a lot of dancing, I swore to myself I'd heretofore make the effort to actually learn certain dance moves, and actually practice them.  As with so much else in life, such a thing never happened, and it is probably all for the good.

I'm up - that would be interesting if I'd actually had any sleep, but as has been the case for the last three months, the night before the stumble-through has been a little sleep night.  I REALLY needed to sleep, was in bed right after midnight and I don't know that I slept ten minutes the entire time and I am TRASHED and who knows if I'll get through the stumble-through today let alone two shows tomorrow.  I'm so overtired these days that I don't really see how it's possible not to fall asleep.
Title: Re: ASSEMBLING THE SHOW
Post by: ChasSmith on November 02, 2013, 09:17:15 AM
I'm finding a similar thing with sleep -- there are certain "nights before" that have become a regular problem with regard to being relaxed enough either to fall asleep at all, or to do so in time to get a decent rest.  Such as:  (1) traveling the next day, or (2) anything that necessitates getting up abnormally early.  Both mind and body just fight it.  I've never tried sleeping aids, but have seriously considered it of late.

I probably triggered that email by clicking on the positive reviews today, which I try to do whenever I'm browsing something like these albums or BK's books or anything else for a friend or where I'd want to help the cause.

I've gotten that email a few times, too -- but I only seem to get it once per item.  In other words, someone clicks on my review as "being helpful", and I get the email, but if a few additional people click on it, I don't get notified further.

At any rate, I think that's how this stuff works...

Greetings from Alaska Airlines Flight 7!

The reason for the delay of the flight is that the crew arrived on the flight from LAX at about 1 am instead of 9 pm and there's a rule than they must have so many hours of rest between flights.

My niece is feeling so much better. I went over there earlier. She dressed up in her Halloween costume and knocked on every door in her house. I was standing on the other side handing out candy. I just took their leftover candy that they didn't hand out (a box of chocolate bars) and put a few in her bag at each stop. Then when her bag was full she emptied it back into my box and we started again. :)

With a valued helper's invaluable help, I just schlepped half a cord of firewood from the driveway, through the yard and around the house to the back deck, and stacked it on racks.  Now I must needs run some errands.  There are no naps for the wicked.

My goodness, page 3?  I need to dig into my vault of YouTube / Got Talent clips.  This group was fantastic in all of their routines, and they won this year's Britain's Got Talent.  But my favorite was their runner up routine which even made Simon cry.  They are called Attraction, and they are from Hungary, not Britain. I would love to meet the members of this group, they are amazing.

Those ZZZ Quil tablets really seem to help for occasional insomnia.  The liguid version, like its cold medicne brother, is something like 12% alcohol; but the tablets don't contain any alcohol.

Okay, not tablets, but capsules.  Sorry.

Here's a blurry close-up of the make-up that was put on me for last night's TAO of the Dead:

Christy, who is a professional make-up artist did some amazing work last night.  She created some pretty fancy Halloween-type face paintings and took donations for TAO.

And here is a close-up of my after-party face when I got home.  Christy used an airbrush for the purple base, and then stippled on the pink mottled blotches.  I wish I could've gotten a really good picture.  She had airbrushed my whole face and lips and beard.  The Brain that I wore came down over my forehead and the foam pads in the bike helmet wiped off the make-up.  Anyway, here it is:

Overall, the evening was a success!  It was a VERY long day.  We met at noon yesterday and the space had been decorated quite well by that time.  A few of us went shopping and got some last minute things.  Much of the day is a blur, but the event didn't start until 8:00.  There weren't many people at first (and I really thought that it might be a bust), but as the evening went on, people started showing up and bought raffle tickets and sang karaoke and had a grand ol' time!

There were about 25 raffle items (my sister and I contributed four items).  I won two items...a $25 gift certificate for a local shop called Archibald Sister's, and a decorative case-thing with a DVD, a scented candle and some knick-knacks.  My friend Sarah (who was the stage manager for "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe") was a bit upset that she hadn't won anything.  Our friend Jenny bought one, count 'em, ONE raffle ticket and won!  She actually won one of the gifts that my sister contributed...it was a big glass cookie jar filled with various cookie cutters, along with a Martha Stewart cookie cook book.  That's all that Jenny wanted and she won it!  Sarah asked me how many tickets did I buy (I bought $16, all the cash I had) and said that she had bought $20 worth...why wasn't she winning anything??  The very next ticket drawn was actually ANOTHER (a third) ticket that I had!  I just handed the winning ticket to Sarah and let her have the basket!  It turned out to be a basked of home-made soaps.  She LOVED it! ;D

I've learned not to make major plans on the day I arrive from anywhere if I'm flying.

For a change I slept, even got 8 hours last night before the alarm woke me.  Of course it will take more than one night of sleep to make up for all the nights lost.

SLEEP WELL VIBES!!!

Greetings from Alaska Airlines Flight 7!

The reason for the delay of the flight is that the crew arrived on the flight from LAX at about 1 am instead of 9 pm and there's a rule than they must have so many hours of rest between flights.

I have had flights that were delayed long enough the crew had to leave delaying us more while we waited for a new crew.

Well, I need to take a shower and meet my friend Kris downtown.  She is the former treasurer of TAO and wasn't able to be at the fund raiser last night, so she wants to make a donation!  I'm going to pick up her check.  I'll then stop at my sister's house and show her the gifts that I won.  I was planning on going to work today, but after about 15 hours at the fund raiser space, I just couldn't do it.  Oh, well. ;)

Thank you, Jane. Yes, I'm on that list. I ate more chocolate last night than I should have and that's all it takes for me to have trouble falling asleep. RESCUE SLEEP is my favorite (OTC) sleep remedy. They're tiny pills which don't require water--they just melt in your mouth almost instantly. I'm usually asleep about five minutes after I take one, but last night I needed a second one. They come in a blister pack and I keep it under my pillow, so if I don't fall asleep I just grab it and take one. At health food stores or online.

I read this and set my travel alarm clock next to my bed.  I also set my alarm for an hour later having changed it last night.  I usually leave it set for whatever time I need to get up for my hiking group.  With the colder days we are leaving later and I don't have to normally get up when it is still dark out.

The prices are good but they can take a long time.  I only did this once and we circled the airport a few times picking people up.  On the second circle I politely asked how many time will we do this and the driver yelled at me big time, including yelling he had already told us.  The other two passengers hadn't heard him either so I suspect he didn't.  When I, once again polite, apologized that I am hard of hearing and didn't hear him say that, he yelled at me again.  The next time I took a cab with a very nice cab driver.

Juniors are the young dog handlers in the ring.  We have been watching one such gal grow into a very poised, confident young lady.  We also love her dog.  We did see the "junior" and her dog win best in breed today.  Neither made a single error that I could see.

Sally Struthers has 73 stops on her HELLO, DOLLY! tour, with a lot of smaller venues.  In Washington and Oregon I only saw Spokane in WA, and Eugene in Oregon. The lastpage of the tour lists these stops.  Can that be correct?  Two stops in the same city?

4/1/2014           Abilene Civic Center   Amarillo   TX
4/2/14-4/3/14   Amarillo Civic Center   Amarillo   TX
4/4/14-4/5/14   Municipal Auditorium   Lubbock

She's coming to Sioux City in January, I think

The stumble-through was way too much fun - a few flubs here and there but what a smiler this show is - and Mr. Sherman was with us and teared up several times.

Very nice!

We just watched "How Green WAs My Valley" and it was just as wonderful as ever.  Has anyone read the novel?  I am thinking I should.

I have a beautiful true UK first edition of it, and must read it at some point, along with about 2000 others.

I just watched Disney's "Tangled" and I really enjoyed it.  I love Zachary Levi and Donna Murphy, and thought that Mandy Moore was pretty good, too.

I paused the credits to see who's all in there and the names that I recognize in the "Additional Voices" section are Anne Lockhart, Laraine Newman and Susanne Blakeslee.
