Well, you've read the notes, the notes drove a Hupmobile, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently driving a HupMOObile.
-
And the word of the day is: PHOSPHENE!

Morning all.
That is all.

NYC Life TV (http://www.nyc.gov/html/media/html/schedules/schedules.shtml)
is not a Broadway or theatre channel, it's part of New York City's government run television channels. There are 3 of them, NYCLife, NYCGov and NYCWorld. They each focus on different things. One of the many things NYCLife does is run arts and culture programs. but there are other programs on the schedule as well, not just theatre programs.
The show Vixmom was referring to referencing Broadway theatres is a Web-based program called
Spotlight on Broadway (http://www.spotlightonbroadway.com/)
Each theatre is profiled (narrated by David Hyde Pierce and other Broadway actors) with a brief history including video and pictures. The Foxwoods/Lyric causes confusion because they will be re-naming the theatre in the near future (it hasn't happened yet). Spiderman is currently playing at the Foxwoods but the show will close in January.
King Kong, the Australian musical which opened earlier to mixed reviews, will probably go into the theatre. It's that or the Broadway, since Cinderella is not doing well and will probably close in January also. The Gershwin could hold the show but right now Wicked is there and Wicked is not going anyplace any time soon (it just celebrated it's 10th Anniversary, having opened on Halloween of 2003)
Spotlight on Broadway refers to the Foxwoods as The Lyric. It's called the Lyric because the Foxwoods (originally called the Ford Center for the Performing Arts and then the Hilton and now Foxwoods) was created out of 2 old Broadway theatres, the Apollo and the Lyric. This work was done in 1996-1997 when 42nd Street was in the middle of a complete makeover. Because they merged 2 spaces the theatre is HUGE. It has 1,930 seats. It's really too big for most shows which is why it has sat empty for a long time. Ragtime opened in the space in 1998 when it was the Ford Center then it had other shows (most not successful) including
2000 Jesus Christ Superstar (a revival)
2001: 42nd Street (a revival)
2005: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (the London production moved across the pond)
2006: Hot Feet (a "dance" musical which quickly folded); Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (the first production in the franchise)
2007: The Pirate Queen (Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil's attempt to tell an Irish folk tale; another big flop); Young Frankenstein (Mel Brooks' not as bad as they said it was show (in my humble opinion) after The Producers)
2010: Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark (the debacle that will close in January)
At some point before King Kong opens I think they will officially re-name the theatre, since it is no longer owned and operated by the Foxwoods (a casino in CT) Corporation.

will close in January.

Mr. Sing Song must be driving across the Midwest by now, or else he's arrived in MN and is busy unpacking.

My oatmeal is getting cold. My coffee is getting cold also.

And on that note, au revoir.

My oatmeal is getting cold. My coffee is getting cold also.
I'm getting a little chilly myself! I should put on a sweater.

good morning to all
-
Good morning, all! I am going to chance my first weekday trek to Toyland. I don't believe I will be staying long but I need to take care of the defrosted refrigerator and a few other chores.
Last night i dreamed I was writing a one-act comic opera about a young couple owning a restaurant (soprano and tenor), their two rival chefs - one a drunk - (baritone and bass), and a food critic (contralto). I think it was funny.

Just watched Miss Esther Williams in "Texas Carnival." It's the dessert and she finds a place to swim. Go figure.
Daffy bit of nonsense with some fun Dorothy Fields lyrics.
Which dessert was it? Apple Pie? Chocolate Cake? Creme Brûlée?

Good morning, all.
Coffee, man. Coffee.

Good morning.
I know someone who owns a Hupmobile.

TOD:
I really haven't seen many 2013 movies yet. However, of the few I have seen, I enjoyed:
MUD
BEFORE MIDNIGHT
SIDE EFFECTS
-
I'm going to be doing the Wizard World Comic Con in Austin this weekend (Fri-Sun). Unfortunately there may be a heavy rainfall throughout.
:-\
-
Tuesday morning greetings! There's nothing on my calendar today, but I have desk work to do along with exercising and grocery shopping.
-
Weekday trek vibes to DR Elmore! I think you should write that comic opera you dreamed about...
-
And the word of the day is: PHOSPHENE!
And The Song Of The Day Is: I'M BEGINNING TO SEE THE LIGHT
-
I just put some mail out for pick-up and it feels like winter here in SW Ohio - brrrr!
-
TOD: The only movies I've seen this year are those I've received from my screeners: MUD & DALLA BUYERS CLUB, both starring Matthew McConaughey. Both I liked. I've got BEFORE MIDNIGHT. Haven't watched it yet, but I've found the others in the series a bit indulgent.
-
TOD
Easy, because I've only been to see OBLIVION, ELYSIUM, MAN OF STEEL and GRAVITY this year - a far cry from the days when I used to regularly go twice a week.
My favorite - GRAVITY
-
Greetings from Toyland! It was an hour trip this morning because of midtown traffic.
Things are good here: defrosted fridge did not leak water all over the carpet, thanks to all the paper towels I left all over the interior, I've printed out my Moross work, and I have a few DEAREST ENEMY things to accomplish and I can head back home.
The only film I can recall seeing this year is the new Joss Wheedon film of MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING, which I really liked.
-
TOD:
A lot of movies I wanted to see this year, but very few that I ever got around to watching. But of those I did see, GO GOA GONE is my favorite. Hilarious spoof of zombie films ala SHAUN OF THE DEAD.

about time. How much money did it loose? $50 million?
Did you mean "how much money did it lose?"
Okay, no "desert" for you tonight.
-
Heat is not working again plus the phone and internet are still spotty. Don't be surprised if I'm not around.
-
Good lord. What is going on up there, DR Jane??
-
DR Ben, thank you so much for the link to Spotlight on Broadway (and thank you to DR Vixmom, too!)! I've watched the video on my favorite theatre, the Al Hirschfeld (formerly Martin Beck), as well as the ones we were in last week (Music Box, Belasco, Lunt-Fontanne). Looking forward to watching the rest, but I don't want to watch them all at once.
-
Let's get this page turned before 12noon, EST!
Page 2!
-
I've got the Spotlight on Broadway page opened up so I don't forget to watch it later when I have a better chunk of time!
-
Spotlight on Broadway is a great sight. Ginny, there is probably a mention of it in one of the Playbills for shows that you saw on your trip.
-
Almost time to head for home!
I've made some fixes for Rodgers & Hammerstein, printed some work to take home and generally done well. I'll try to finish up the orchestra parts this weekend.
-
Tuesday.....
Well A/A will be set in current day San Antonio with the Alamo standing in for Troy and instead of being Greeks and Trojans we will all be members of warring drug cartels....so I guess it's cowboy hats & boots for us instead of togas....photos will be forthcoming.
Sometimes I forget what university theatre is all about.....
-
I received a card today from Comcast telling me that because I am a valued customer, I can have two premium channels and StreamPix free for TWO YEARS. I called and ordered HBO and STARZ.....and was assured they are FREE.......if I cancel within two years there is a $75 fee, otherwise nothing.....and I have to call at the end of two years to renew....
I said that I would be VERY UNHAPPY if anything shows up on my bill, but was assured that it is FREE. We shall see.
-
DR JOHN G's office was all going Brazilian yesterday.....
-
TOD:
Gravity
and......
well....nothing......I may have seen LES MISERABLES and LINCOLN after the beginning of the year, but those are 2012 movies.....

My time stamp is right on the money!

My time stamp is correct also.

We must be Siamese cats.

I just put some mail out for pick-up and it feels like winter here in SW Ohio - brrrr!
Do you mean that you put your mail in your mailbox and your mail carrier takes it?

And now....for something completely....different:

My time stamp is one hour off....it's 10:27 a.m.

These theater shorts are great. I'm taking a clue from DR Ginny and not watching them all at once!

Yes, DR Jennifer, our mailbox is attached to the house right next to the front door. There's a little gap into which we can insert outgoing mail to be picked up.

Okay, that's three. Enough for now. :)

We, with our rural mailboxes at the street, can do the same. We put up the little flag notifying the carrier that we've left something.

Everyone, be sure to scroll all the way down on those individual pages for each theater. Lots of good
sh stuff there!

OK, I've done a lot of paperwork, emptied the dishwasher, helped Richard swap screens for storm windows, and eaten lunch. Time to try a walk around the basement - bye for now!

Very nice, DR Cillaliz - you look & sound great!

For my walk I really wanted to listen to the PIPPIN cast album, but I haven't bought it yet. Next best thing? BK's Stephen Schwartz album which I do own and have installed on my iPod. Perfect!
-
Very nice DR CILLA LIZ - that should make the phone ring!
-
These theater shorts are great. I'm taking a clue from DR Ginny and not watching them all at once!
I have now watched 2 more: my first Broadway theatre, the Imperial (Cabaret) and my second, the Broadway (Funny Girl), summer 1967.

In honor of stingjaw who is unable to post for the time being!
In "Lost Horizon", we learn that "The World is a Circle". In "The Lion King", we learn about "The Circle of Life."
To everything there is a season.
A time to toil, a time to reap, a time to rest...and, as it happens, a time to die.
And death can come along unexpectedly.
But, today.....
................is not that day!

Good afternoon
-
Nothing to report here. Seeing the National Tour of Evita this evening in San Jose. Looking forward to this very much.
-
Sad to hear about Spiderman closing as I really wanted to try and see it someday. Since they say it will open in Las Vegas, I'll see it there.
-
Former DR JASON is the merchandise manager for EVITA in San Jose!
-
I saw Jason when he was doing merch for Evita here in New York. I saw the show in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. I walked uptown and there was Jason. He had walked into work from Queens because the subway was out. We had a nice talk. Now he's on the road as a Merch King.
I think he has a blog where he tells stories from hell about selling merch.

How soon do the ads start running?
-
What HAVE I been doing???
-
I got up at ten but didn't get out of bed until eleven.
-
Then I had to answer e-mails and I began the third set of liner notes and did that for a while.
-
Then I picked up some mail and a couple of tiny packages.
-
Then I finished about two-thirds of the liner notes. Now I'm waiting for Sami and her mother to arrive - we'll have a work session and then eat, then it's rehearsal.
-
From DR Jennifer:
That is super exciting!
I think so, if it doesn't end up being a big hassle to use. I will be watching for those special deals you sometimes mention. :)
-
From DR Cilla:
I saw my commercials today in English and Spanish. When I see myself speaking in Spanish it makes me giggle
Reading this made me laugh.
-
Weekday trek vibes to DR Elmore! I think you should write that comic opera you dreamed about...
Ditto!
-
Good lord. What is going on up there, DR Jane??
I know but hopefully all is fixed. A part needed replacing for the heater. I think it was under some kind of warranty.
The phone & internet was repaired at a different location than the recent fix so hopefully our problems are solved. When Keith mentioned the connection has been slow this repairman said it needs to be readjusted, which he did, and we have full speed again.
-
While Keith was home dealing with the repairmen and working outside I was having work done on my car. I knew more time was required than my usual oil change as last time they said the transmission service needed doing. Both should have taken 2 1/2 - 3 hours in total. I also ended up needing a new battery which I was happy to do before the battery died, however, they were late getting initial work done and by the time they were ready to send it to the transmission dept it was lunch time. I threw a bit of a fit over waiting an extra two or more hours. As it was my car was there for 3 1/2 hours.
I've been promised a free detail next time but of course that will add at least a couple of hours to my total time. We shall see.
Thank goodness there is the mall nearby though I can only stay in there for so long. I did get two cute cap style hats at Coldwater Creek.
-
At least my half hour drive home was without traffic.
-
I just put some mail out for pick-up and it feels like winter here in SW Ohio - brrrr!
Do you mean that you put your mail in your mailbox and your mail carrier takes it?
We have little red flags we can put up on our boxes to let the mailman know we have outgoing mail.
In Los Angeles the mailman came right up to our house and dropped the mail in a slot that emptied into the house. If we had outgoing mail we used the slot to hold the mail while half of it stuck outside of the slot.
I guess we are spoiled in the USA.

Yes, DR Jennifer, our mailbox is attached to the house right next to the front door. There's a little gap into which we can insert outgoing mail to be picked up.
We don't have that in Canada. But there is a big mailbox a street over to put outgoing mail in.
-
Looking good on the commercial, DR Cillaliz!
She does indeed! I'm so used to these portentous serious-statements-over-a-logo Jacoby & Meyers or a couple of other firms' commercials that run in Manhattan, that I was surprised to see a charming lady actually talking to a viewer.
-
Good evening. As I read these here interesting posts, I am eating a "dinner" consisting of snack stuff that caught my eye in the store: Snyder's Sea Salt & Cracked Pepper Pretzel Bits; a nice selection of olives from the olive bar; and a "Tasti-Lee" tomato, whatever that is (but it's a good tomato). Washing it down with Snapple "Half & Half" Lemonade/Iced Tea (diet).
-
Sometimes it's just good for the soul (or something) to eat a snack meal instead of a real one. :)
-
TOD: Blue Jasmine
I'm trying to think if I've seen any other movies this year.

HHW fave Jason Graae will be appearing at the Kennedy Center tomorrow on the Millennium Stage. They have free performances every day at 6 pm. They're also shown online. I'm going to try and go after work.

The JFK vignettes are already running. I'll have to put one of those on FB and I can link to it. The rest start on Thursday during the special that the vignettes promote.

Our rules didn't allow attorneys to speak directly into the camera until this year. I doubt the rules in NY were that strict, but it's made a big difference

Enjoyed the Spanish version, too, Cillaliz.

Wow. The Spanish one is great, too! I so envy anyone who's fluent in more than one language.

Wow. The Spanish one is great, too! I so envy anyone who's fluent in more than one language.
I do, too. I pick at languages, but have never had the time, outside of high school, to devote to learning another language completely. And my memory is no longer what it was, so I doubt I'll ever be able to do it. I get by on food vocabulary. Go figure.
-
Several of you must know the movie LET'S SCARE JESSICA TO DEATH (1971). Is it good? I was so sure it was one I'd seen back in the day, but just spot-checking the DVD, I don't recognize anything about it -- except its basic look and mood, which is certainly "of its time".

Don't remember much about it. But I've always loved the title. Good and creepy.

I seem to be running out of steam. And I have more to write. Maybe not tonight.

More BK music to write to tonight: World of Susie Wong and Divorce Italian Style. They were a big help.

One more.

Good night, all.

I'm not as fluent as it sounds. I wrote it all but I had to practice it about 14000 times to do it that quickly

But thanks!

They say you always remember the first time, and it will always be special. That is why my favorite is the St. James Theater. I saw HELLO, DOLLY! there in 1969, and a few other shows since.

For my walk I really wanted to listen to the PIPPIN cast album, but I haven't bought it yet. Next best thing? BK's Stephen Schwartz album which I do own and have installed on my iPod. Perfect!
Did you give a review of PIPPIN and I missed it?

Great commercial, Cilla. I am looking forward to the Spanish version.

He also tells those stories on Facebook.

Wow. The Spanish one is great, too! I so envy anyone who's fluent in more than one language.
I envy anyone fluent in one!

I am worried about Nicky.
-
Oh dear, what's wrong with Nicky?
-
Cilla just checked out both your commercials; you look and sound great I was particularly impressed by how smoothly you did the one in Spanish - I can't speak English that well!

I worked a little late today and then had a meeting at church

I started to catch up here when I was alerted that I should go to see my FB page - where I learned that earlier today my Canadian nephew's marriage proposal was accepted!

Back from rehearsal, about which more in the notes.

No page six? Really?

No page six? Really?
Well...if you insist...

It's not really much further...

...or is it "farther"?

So, tonight, I watched "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."

I never saw any of the Marvel movies, so there's a lot of backstory that I'm missing, but I enjoy the show. :)

I do have some of the Marvel movies in my Netflix queue.
