Well, you've read the notes, the notes learned from The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, and now it is time for you to post until the Cherbourg cats come home.
-
And the word of the day is: IRREDENTIST!
-
BK, thanks for the "Umbrellas" report. Did you get it from Amazon.fr (in France)? I found a listing for the Arte Video release and will order it soon.
-
I have CD soundtracks for the two movies ("Umbrellas" and "Young Girls of Rochefort"), but not the actual movies. Now that I have a multi-region Blu-ray player, it's about time that I do. :)
-
And now, I must go to bed.
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
Yes, you can get both Young Girls and Umbrellas from amazon France, as I did.
-
Good morning, all! Last night's dream was sheer madness, a combination of THE WIZARD OF OZ, ONCE, and BABES IN TOYLAND, and it was a mess. I was glad to be awake at 6:15 and escape the complete insanity of it. This morning is fraught with activity: bus to Radio City and haircut, bus to City Center and meeting with Joshie, bus all the work home with me.
Once I'm back home, things will calm down, thank God.
TOD:
DVD: The Fades, My Sister Eileen, some other Netflix item
CD: Dearest Enemy, Tchaikovsky ballets, Guy Haines, John Wilson Orchestra
VCR: Nothing
-
Good morning, all.
Coffee! And plenty of it.
I slept fine, but spent the last hour in bed tossing and turning because of an aching back. No particular excuse for it, it's just what happens sometimes at the end of a night's sleep. I HOPE a new mattress will greatly alleviate this, and I really must do something in that regard soon.
-
As I just posted on the HTF upon reading BK's "Umbrellas" post over there:
Oh. Thank. God.
I am so there it's not even funny. And I only WISH I had the personal history with this film that Mr. haineshisway enjoys.
It's also a good thing I have that wonderful Blu-ray of The Young Girls of Rochefort. Because that must be watched -- today. Nothing less will do.
Seriously. This evening. In the Movie Room. With the door shut and The Big Speakers cranked up. This is just the greatest news.
My next stop this morning: Amazon France.
-
Amazon France, next station stop! Amazon France!
-
Getting a little carried away here.
More coffee!
-
So, what else?
Oh!
The invited audience performance tonight! Many VIBES and XYLOPHONES for a wonderful show in front of a wonderful crowd! I so wish I could be there.
-
To think how overjoyed I was to finally score a copy of the "Umbrellas" DVD last year at a regular price level. It had gone out of print by then, and I see the primary listing on Amazon right now has it at --- (I hope you're sitting down for this) --- $159.99.
And to think how wonderful it looked to me after having only owned the VHS release. Oy!
-
Le Blu-ray she is ordered! :) :) :)
-
TOD:
CD - I'd be very tempted to take Une chambre en ville for a spin to get my brain in tune for the Demy tonight. But I probably won't have enough time around the house during the day to do this.
BLU - The Dick Van Dyke Show - I was one of the lucky few to score a copy at an erroneous $48 from DVD Planet. Watched a few of these yesterday. Tonight, The Young Girls of Rochefort. All other plans cancelled.
-
I will now get some more coffee and perhaps a banana and yield the floor to someone else for a while.
-
TOD:
I doubt if I will be watching anything this weekend. I'll be spending the 3 days at the Wizard World Austin Comic Con, and I'm sure that I will be so exhausted every night after I get home that I'll just fall into bed.
-

"We did a first table-reading of our musical version of Jim Lehrer's novel VIVA MAX today. We invited about 20 close theatre-writer friends and Mr. Lehrer, his wife and one of his daughters attended. Mr. Lehrer gave us a standing O at the end. Man, that felt good. Mrs. Lehrer gave me huge praise for the music and lyrics. I have to thank a wonderful cast for nailing it today. Joe Kolinski, Christianne Tisdale, Milla Ilieva, Ric Ryder, Maureen Silliman, Bill Parry, Jane Smulyan, Michael Cone, Kurt Bardele and Jacob Leonard Smith.
Evan Pappas did wonderful work with our cast on Tuesday helping them with music-stand-eography and boosting the oomph of their characterizations."

Continuing with Barney Miller
I am still in season two. So far not as funny as I remember it. Maybe it gets better as the seasons progress.
Also I never realized that despite being in the opening credits Barbara Barrie appeared in only a handful of episodes.

I remember the movie with Peter Ustinov. Very funny idea; just so-so execution.
But, I think that the basic story could make a terrific musical.
Good luck with it.
Or, should I say, "Break a leg"?
-
And I am sure this cannot match the color of the Blu Ray release of Les parapluies de Cherbourg
BUT
Here is the sequence that features the Academy Award nominated song Je Vais Attendre Pour Vous and the train departure.
The singers are Danielle Licari & Guy Foucher and not Catherine Denueve and Nino Castelnuovo. She was only 20 years and gorgeous.

Friday morning greetings! Rainy and foggy here in SW Ohio today - glad Mom and I aren't out and about like we were yesterday morning. I do have to pick up a new prescription and deliver it to her today, but there's no rush.
-
Page 2!

We have rain!
I'm sure DR Laura is very happy.
Indeed!

The last 2 evenings have given me great hope for our community. On Wednesday, Richard and I (along with other members of the local senior center) had a Scrub Tour of our 6-year-old hospital. We visited the surgery area, the rehab floor, the infusion center, and the Level-3 trauma room in the ER and heard from many dedicated professionals about their jobs. We came away with a lot of confidence in the medical care available nearby. Last night, AAUW Middletown met at the local campus of Cincinnati State Technical and Community College in downtown Middletown. Cincinnati State president Dr. O'Dell Owens spoke and then we toured the building. This is a great asset that is contributing to the revival of our downtown.
-
Last night's event was AAUW's regular monthly meeting and I conducted a short business meeting before the Cincinnati State folks took over. As we introduced guests and new members, the following "firsts" were observed:
1) For the first time, we had 3 husbands in attendance at a branch meeting - my husband Richard, plus Chris' husband Tom and Becky's husband Dan. All were there to see the new Cincinnati State facility.
2) For the first time, we had 3 generations from one family in attendance - longtime member Katie and her daughter Laura, who's a newer member, introduced their mother/grandmother who's visiting from out of state.
3) For the first time, our membership includes elected members of both our local school board (Katie) and city commission (Dora).
-
We have rain!
I'm sure DR Laura is very happy.
Indeed!
Ours is ushering in some wintery weather...
-

Glad for MR BK that they finally got the Blu Ray right for UMBRELLAS! I always enjoy it...unless it's on a station with commercials.....but I never got to see it in a theatre. I did have the YOUNG GIRLS OF ROCHEFORT LP - and it's still around somewhere....
-
Invited audience vibes for MR BK & Co.
And does DR MATTHEW have a show that is opening tonight as well? I can't keep up with all the shows and entertainment that HHW produces!

That's wonderful, Fred! Congrats to you and Skip and Julie!! :D

And I am home from haircut and seeing Joshie. I have a nice bit of work lined up, so I had better get organized.
It's a wet day in Manhattan, and I foolishly left the umbrella here.
Good news about the reading, DR FJL!
-
And now, off to work!
-
Had to make a change of plans. Forecasts of ice and snow in the Panhandle have kept me closer to home this weekend. Ugh.

TOD
Nothing new this week but I did watch LIFE OF PI in 3D on subscription TV

Thanks to DR GINNY for the lovely package that arrived today!
Playbills from three CURRENT Broadway productions PLUS The Radio City Insider. I am most thankful and pleased!!!
So nice of you!
Just so our friends here know, these items were not picked up off the theatre floors as DR JRand requested. They are the ones Richard handed me when we got "home" from each performance!
-
Congratulations to DR FJL and company!
-
Thank you, George!
-
Congratulations to DR FJL and company!
Thanks so much, Ginny!
-
Congrats to Fred and Skip!
-
Ginny, my nephew and niece receive the "off the floor" Playbills unless there is a fresh pile sitting unattended by an usher. Then I will take 2 off the top. I always make sure the off the floor Playbills are not beat up or torn but I'm always surprised at the number of people who just leave their Playbills on the floor as they leave the show.
-
I'm up, I'm up - I didn't get to sleep until two-thirty - had to write something for our program (they asked me - I usually don't write a "director's note." So, eight hours of sleep.
-
Yes these were fine specimens of the genus Playbill!
-
At least your umbrella wasn't in Cherbourg DR ELMORE!
-
Page Three Dance!
-
More congratulations to DR FJL, Skip and Julie!

Fill-in-the-blank of the day for everyone: It's not Thanksgiving dinner without __________.
In other words, what single dish makes Thanksgiving dinner for you?
-
Sweet potatoes
-
And that's recent. We didn't have them when I was growing up.
-
BK, thanks for the "Umbrellas" report. Did you get it from Amazon.fr (in France)? I found a listing for the Arte Video release and will order it soon.
Both Blu-rays (Les Parapluies de Cherbourg (http://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B00DM1CGAG/) and Les Demoiselles de Rochefort (http://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B003TP3UPA/)) have been ordered! They're supposedly going to arrive by the first week of December...we'll see about that. I've ordered a couple of things for my work that were never received, somehow got returned to Amazon.fr and cancelled/credited. I don't know why. :P

Topic of the Day:
In my CD player at work: the original 1-CD recording, "Songs from Ragtime" and then the 2-CD original Broadway cast recording of "Ragtime." :)
A co-worker of mine asked if I had a recording and/or the sheet music to "Back to Before"...of course, I did! I loaned her the OBC CD and the songbook. She said that she doesn't have the belting voice to be able to sing "BtB," but she really wanted to hear the whole 2-CD recording. That got me thinking that I hadn't heard it in a very long time, so now that I got them out of my garage, I want to listen to them. So I am.

I suppose stuffing is my favorite TG dish but I haven't had any in a long, long time.
-
DR CILLA LIZ I enjoyed the tv story about Paul.....very nice.
Thanks for sharing the VIVA MAX! info DR FJL....it sounds like so much fun.
Thanks! He's done many outdoor murals around town, but this one is amazing. It's huge and SO detailed. I'm really glad it's inside because it will be preserved. One of the murals he did was on a building that was later torn down. Another keeps crumbling off the building and he has to fix it. So it's nice this one will be safe. It's in a newly restored historic building

Watching "Fractured Fairy Tales" with the great Edward Everett Horton as narrator. The first ones were not as funny as I had remembered, but they're getting much funnier.

Congrats and Break a leg to FLJ and company. Sounds like a fun show

Fill-in-the-blank of the day for everyone: It's not Thanksgiving dinner without __________.

Turkey and dressing and mom's potatoes and sweet potatoes and scalloped oysters and pecan pie and......

Can't pick a single dish. I love the combination. When I was here alone I made the whole shebang. Well not the pecan pie, but I'm going to learn to do that. My brother makes Paula Dean's pecan pie recipe. It's fabulous

Cilla, the interview with Paul was very interesting & enjoyable. It was nice to see both Paul and his work.

I swam today. My body seems to be getting back to a comfortable swim. Walking through the garage I my prescription goggles fell out of my bag and I didn't notice. They have a small box at the pool and I found one pair that kind of fit me. I kept having to adjust them and couldn't see all that well but it was better than nothing. I was very happy to find my goggles when I returned home.
-
Not able to focus tonight.
-
Started watching "Miracle on 34th Street" and don't have the willpower to finish it.
-
Good night, all.
-
I had a fun, albeit tiring, day at the Wizard World Austin Comic Con. Assuming my back holds out, I'll be back tomorrow.
-
A lull. ::)
-
;)
-
I have just started watching "An Adventure in Space and Time" on BBC.
-
It's a movie about how "Doctor Who" got started.
-
I'm also recording it to my DVD burner so that I can have my own DVD of it.
-
There is no listing on Amazon.com for a DVD release, but there is on Amazon.co.uk (http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00GJOXW1A/).
-
I'm not sure if I'll buy it, but I might.
-
Tomorrow, BBC America is going to show "Doctor Who 50th Live Pre-Show" before "The Day of the Doctor."
-
www.google.com has a Doctor Who tribute. :D
-
"The Day of the Doctor" is going to be shown in theaters around the world tomorrow, but not near Olympia.
-
It will be shown here on Monday.
-
I plan to see the 3-D showing...just because. :)
-
It's actually going to play at two theaters in the area on Monday.
-
I was thinking about going to two showings, but that might be overkill...even for me.
-
5
-
I just watched a commercial for tomorrow's Doctor Who marathon and they said that the rebroadcast after the series premiere of the new show "Atlantis" will include "never before seen" interviews with the actors.
-
I guess I'll be watching/recording both broadcasts. ;)
-
MBarnum might be interested in this movie...the actor who played Manmeet in "Outsourced" is one of the leads.
-
Sacha Dhawan (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0223527/reference) plays the original director of "Doctor Who."
-
They just had a scene where William Hartnell is watching TV and they show the assassination of President Kennedy.
-
It's really touching the way they handled William Hartnell's medical condition that forced him to leave the show.
-
He has just told his wife that he's not doing the show anymore. He breaks down and says, "I don't want to go." That's what David Tennant's Doctor said when he transformed.
-
And it's over. I liked it very much.
-
And since we're so close...
-
Gratuitous Post #130!
-
:D
-
Now, to cut out all the commercials, then I can burn it to a DVD.
