These days I shop at the one on Pico and 33rd (Santa Monica) and (today) the one on Sepulveda and Palms Blvd. (WLA) There are two more near me, but are less convenient due to traffic patterns.

TJ's has done an exceptional job, I think, of staying abreast of trends and customer preferences. Virtually everyone I know shops at Trader Joe's at least some of the time.

That says it all. They had oddball items, they made it clear in the Fearless Flyer (something I'd sit down and read religiously back in those days, marking it up for things to try) that not every store would have every item, and they'd tell you how many pallets or truckloads or whatever that they'd been able to make a deal on for certain items. Whole different scene, man. It's a miracle that the store's core "something" survived as it became a successful national chain.

That one near Sony and the Culver Theatre -- I remember that, if it was one of those original ones that still went by its former name.

Pronto! Pronto Markets.

Not sure about the Sepulveda and Palms, but there was one in Palms on National Blvd. that I went to a number of times. One of the originals, in Pasadena, was fun to go to, which I probably only did once. Mine in Redondo/Torrance (in the Riviera Village, to be exact) was one of the few that started a small department with -- I forget now -- deli meats, sausages, etc. -- that I think could be cut to order. That happened shortly before I moved away.

One of my favorite things was a package of three small beef burritos for, like, a dollar (maybe two -- oh hell, I don't know, but it was cheap). To this day, I haven't found a burrito that simple and that good.

Around 3:00 I was still awake, so I posted here, read a couple of chapters of my current mystery, and went back to bed. I am awake, bathed, dressed and ready for my second cup of coffee before I head to physical therapy. I am sure that tonight i will sleep quite well.

I have no more news at the moment.

I have little memory of it - vague - I may have been doing another pilot at the time, or I may have auditioned for it. Wes and I were always up against each other - sometimes he got it, sometimes I did. I saw him at some point in the 90s - he came and visited me at Varese Sarabande.

After that, the bank, the bus, and home. On the bus ride back, I flashed on my memory of my mother's last words to me before her death; it caught me totally by surprise today and really saddened me.

BK, I have watched four episodes of the new season of Downton, and stalled after that, mostly because of being busy. I don't have a screener, but I have a European site where I can find them online. I love that.

I went to see the new Brian Dennehy play at the Taper last night with tix to the first preview, and was greeted by the fateful sign: "The role of.... normally played by Brian Dennehy...." GAAAAH! His understudy was on for the first preview. And I went specifically to see him. My date and I decided to pass, and sat and had coffee to catch up with each other instead. Ah, well, best laid plans. Hopefully I can snag another ticket for later in the run.

Have a wonderful holiday!! And in the words of a friend, who reminded me it's also the first day of Hannukah/Chanukah, "Gobble-Tov!" :D

Fortunately, I was right around the corner from our service place. They did a diagnostic and found several things that need attention, so my car is staying there until they can get the necessary parts on Friday. Bye-bye, new kitchen countertops...

They gave me a ride home, where I proceeded in Richard's car.

Mom doesn't like I with cinnamon and nutmeg and I think that's the best. So I made just apples and sugar in one and one with the nutmeg and cinnamon.

I do not like to do this and have been very frank with him about it. So I agreed this time to do it. The aquarium wasn't ready when I got to the house. The guy picked it up and dumped it outside then put it in my car. My car smells like fish. I wasted over 3 hours on this stupid errand and I will not do it again.

They'll have 3 hours to eat dinner and get there and they can't wait another half hour so I can get there and catch my breath before sitting down to eat. Every year the plans we've all made and had for a month change at the last minute and it's always in a way that is more difficult for me. I am SO tired of it. AND I get to drive the whole way with a stinky aquarium in my car. I am not happy

Couldn't wait for it to chill to have a taste, so took a little, and -- wow! What intense flavor, both the tartness and sweetness.

There's no excuse for these turnouts. I know it was the night before, etc., etc., but these vintage film events are not publicized worth a damn. There's a trailer that hawks all four of these for the season (A Christmas Story, White Christmas, Christmas Vacation, and It's a Wonderful Life), so if anyone actually pays attention during it, they'll know. But most of the people seeing those trailers are frickin' KIDS. I knew about these because a friend is one of the managers. (I also get into everything for free ... FREE! :) )

Over the past couple of years, the showings of Lawrence of Arabia, Cleopatra, The Birds -- those were "well" attended with 50 to 75 people per showing. On the other hand, what perfect audiences they were. Every one of them knew what they were there for. A rare pleasure.

Don't mind me. Just rambling. But not in a Rambler.

Anyway, now I need to go to Fred Meyer to get some eggs, butter and a pie crust for the pecan pie that I'm going to bake. I have a jar of bourbon-flavored (the alcohol burns off when baked) pecan pie filling and all you add is the butter and eggs and the crust. I hope that it turns out okay. I love pecan pie. :D

The kind of pie crust that I bought is the kind that you just unroll and put in the pie plate. If I used the pot pie pans, I would have to cut a whole bunch of circles and try to patch some together to fit. That would be too much work, so I put the pie stuffs in a cake pan that I had where the sides are slightly slanted, so it's sort of like a pie plate...and good enough for me.
