Well, you've read the notes, the notes were unplugged, and now it is time for you to post until the unplugged cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: CALORIFACIENT!
-
Glad you had a good show and birthday, BK!
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
It's 5:30 and I guess I am awake.
-
All the birthday festivities yesterday sound quite fun and yes, yummilicious.
-
I am disappointed that we don't have a photo from yesterday of a certain Mr. Potter with a certain DR George.
-

What you expect your Elf on a Shelf to be doing while you're at work...

-
Good morning, all.
Happy Monday vibes.
-
I worked at a Barnes and Noble one Christmas and they played the Elf on the Shelf theme every 15 minutes or so. You could be in the back of the store on a different floor and yet you could feel that wretched jingle to the marrow of your bones. After eight hours, I felt as if I needed the wine and medication, not the elf.

TOD: I think the music has become too loud and as a result the singers have had to in order to get the lyrics across. I would like a little less volume on just about everything. And I don't like the sight of those head mics. I don't like seeing the pastor wear one in church.
-
Gosh, it's Monday.
-
Good morning, all! I have physical therapy first thing this morning. It's no longer at 11:00, and it's now at 10:15, so I'll leave here around 9:30. Following that, I will come back here, change and get ready to head into midtown to see my friend Craig, whom i've not seen since 1972. At that point, he was a senior. longer a theatre major and applying to med schools. We'd been friends since he was a freshman and I a graduate assistant. The big joke between us was, if there were really vilified, pathetically inept horror film anywhere, we had to see it.
Since then, he married, had a son, separated, remarried, had several more children, became the head of the pediatrics dept. in a hospital in Fargo, and now he lives in Dallas. For 30 years, since I moved to NYC, we've talked and joked about his coming to visit. I'm so happy he's here, I can hardly walk!
At least it's not a death bed reunion.
-
Good morning!
-
I'm happy you had such a great birthday, BK!
-
Thanks for sharing that holiday horror story, DR John G. I feel your pain.
-
Jeez, Citibank has managed to take a simple request to transfer money from my IRA account to my checking account and screwed it up royally over a 2-week period. Do I believe it will finally land in my checking account tomorrow, as they assured me this morning, last Friday, and last Thursday? In a pig's eye.
-
Glad you're having a reunion with your friend, Elmore. Any grizzly horror movies on the agenda?
-
TOD:
It doesn't bother me that actors are miked. I'd rather be able to hear them than not.
-
Good morning, all.
Fine news all around in the notes. Sounds like a near perfect day was had. Perhaps even a perfect day! But I really wonder what was up re the show being purportedly sold out, and then not sold out.
Great TOD, too. More later on that.
-
Glad you're having a reunion with your friend, Elmore. Any grizzly horror movies on the agenda?
No. Just meet him and his wife, catch up, maybe go to Joe Allen for dinner, depending on how I'm walking. We do still laugh over a late night tv film, THE AWFUL DR ORLOFF: Orloff was really AWFUL!
Craig was in a couple of musicals I wrote at school: DEVILS OF CHICAGO and HANSEL AND GRETEL, which was not for children.
-
I'm blaming the wine: too much last night and I cannot get motivated or moving, so I've moved therapy tomorrow to 3:30.
-
Monday morning greetings! It's a gray day here in SW Ohio, but warm enough to be melting a lot of the ice & snow that accumulated over the past 3 days.

In her PARADE magazine column yesterday, Connie Schultz (wife of Sen. Sherrod Brown) said, "We're only as happy as our unhappiest child..." Right now, for me, that's not very.

What the HELL!?
Very sorry to hear this, DR Ginny. Please keep us updated.
-
Thanks, DR ChasSmith.
-
I'm completed iced in, by the way. It looks like a "dusting" outside, but it's a never-ending sheet of glazed ice, from the door all the way down the 200-300-foot driveway to the road. (I really do intend to measure that someday.)
-
DR ChasSmith, it sounds like our Friday weather made it to your house. Please be careful!
-
It is very white outside!

Yeah, DR John G. Not good news to get anytime, but right at Christmastime really sucks.
-
Bad news from DR GINNY.....
-
BUT glad to hear that MR BK and CO had a great performance yesterday.
Very nice story DR JEANNE....LOL....
-
Sorry DR Ginny. Hopefully he will find a new job very soon! :(

DR Ginny, I hope this helps to cheer you up!

I also purchased the television cast recording of THE SOUND OF MUSIC that includes a second disk of nine orchestral tracks.

Oh, my...
-
DR Ginny, so sorry about Rob's bad news. I hope all those losing jobs, especially your son, will find new and better employment right away!!
-
BK, what a wonderful Sunday you had...great show and great birthday dinner!
-
TOD:
As long as I can clearly hear those on stage, I don't mind one way or the other.
-
I was wondering why I was having an especially tough time getting warm this morning...it is only 18 degrees outside!
Our winters here in Salem, Oregon, 97301 are not normally this chilly...in fact, it is rare that we get below freezing.
-
DR Ginny, so sorry about Rob's bad news. I hope all those losing jobs, especially your son, will find new and better employment right away!!
Thanks, DR MBarnum. This week he has to concentrate on the final exam for his anatomy & physiology class (pre-req for physician assistant school).
-
I've been up since just after eight, but still in bed waiting for the home environment to heat up

Very funny DR SINGDAW.....
-
How did your Handbells go yesterday?
-
Just found out that one of the nicest people I've met in San Antonio's restaurant scene died this morning from cancer. It's come as a big shock. We'd been praying for her husband, who has been in need of a kidney transplant for several years. Never knew that she had health issues, too.
-
So sorry to hear that, DR John G. What a horrible journey all around for that family!
-
Thanks, DR Jrand63! It went reasonably well - almost all of us (about 13) played most of the right notes! :P
-
That is awful news, DR Ginny. So sorry. ~ ~ ~ VIBES ~ ~ ~ that all works out, and SOON, for your DS.
-
DR John G, I'm so sorry to hear about your friend.
-
Thank you, DR Singdaw.
-
Bad family news: my dad's company is doing poorly, so Jo and Randy have told me not to expect anything from them for Christmas. That's fine with me, but i responded that he and Macbeth need to drop their greedy dreams on that property, list it with a realtor at a salable price and then invest the money in a bank account rather than wait for some idiot to purchase the land at the ridiculously high price they're asking.
Goneril and Regan need their butts kicked.
-

Sounds like our bell choir.
-
Thank you, all. Barbara was a wonderful person. I remember when my friend Bonnie got laid off, she ended up in their restaurant. Bonnie was visably depressed, and Barbara took note. She made Bonnie feel special that day and talked to her for a long time without knowing who she was, other than being a customer. Turns out she treated most everyone with the same care and attention, even when things were hectic.

TOD: I hate mics on actors. It is may be the single thing I hate most about today's theatre. If you can't hit the back wall of the theatre through natural vocal projection, then you either shouldn't be in the business or the venue is too damned big for theatre. I'm in theatres all the time where I've either performed or seen others perform and they never required mics, but do these days. The worst part is the mics make actors very lazy. Yes, you can hear them but you can't understand them, because with their crutch...the mic...their diction and enunciation gets sloppy. And the visible head mic is the worst thing for the willing suspension of disbelief since bad acting.
-
And the Citibank crisis is over. The funds, which should have been deposited last thursday have finally landed in my checking account.
-
Nature took care of parts of it, but I just finished helping her melt the rest of the layer of ice with salt in the difficult areas. UPS helped, too, by driving one of their large trucks over it and back, breaking up an annoying section. Lordy.
-
DR Elmore, sorry to hear that your family's company is struggling. Good for you for telling them exactly what you think should be done about the property!
-
Ginny, I am so sorry to read about DS Rob's job. Lay offs are never good news, but in December they seem equally harsh. Fortunately Rob and Mary Linda have the love and support of both sets of parents. They are in my prayers.
-
DR John, my condolences on the loss of your friend.
-
From DR George:
I did see Tom for a short while after the show, but he was surrounded by several friends, so I only got to give him hug and tell him how great he was (and he was!) and then leave.
:)
-
Ginny, I am sosorry to ead about DS Rob's job. Lay offs aenever good news, but in December they seem equally harsh. Fortunately Rob and Mary Linda have the love and support of both sets of parents. They are in my prayers.
Thank you, DR TCB. We, and her parents, were the first phone calls they made Friday night.

I bought myself a wireless keyboard and it is driving me crazy. I have to be very heavy handed (pun intended) when typing or it doesn't register the keystroke. The worst seems to be the spacebar. Maybe it takes time to loosen up, or maybe I just bought a cheap model, but it is making my already bad typing skills, even worse.

Are you still snow and iced in today?
Kind of. Keith walked the driveway this morning to test it was ok and then we both walked down it. I was a bit nervous and kept walking on the snow instead of the driveway.
We then walked down the road which was ok though for parts I stayed in the snow vs walking on areas that were a bit slippery.
We then got to the main road, which regularly isn't a busy one, and it was very icy. Keith crossed it today and there was mail in the box. Walking back up the road was easy.
-
Keith then drove the car down to test the main roads and came back up. He decided to go to the gym, driving about 25 miles an hour, but preferred to drive it by himself the first time.
I'm home and about to clean & be productive here.
He called and said it is very icy and his new tires are handling his slow speed just fine. When he called he, and others, were behind a nervous person going 15 miles an hour.
-
DR TCB a good keyboard is important. Can you exchange it?

Well...I will be if I survive....ACHILLES/ACHILLES SON in January.
-

Yay!!!!! Hey, maybe -- just maybe -- I could plan my summer visit over that way to coincide. Just maybe.
-
Sounds like a fun job, JRand.
-

Not really. It came with a USB plug-in and it just worked from there. That and the cordless mouse, which I really like.

He's taking some of the prerequisite courses that weren't required of a philosophy major.

So much news today.
-
Larry, as Ginny said, good for you for telling the brothers to do what they should have done years ago.
-
Ginny, so sorry to hear about Rob being made redundant (as the British say). I hope that something comes through soon but he does have a great support group to help.

Keith is home. The sun is out and the ice would be melting if the roads had been salted-very annoying. Oddly it is even worse on the busy road than the smaller road off of our street.

Tom, if you otherwise like this particular model, do what I do (and have even done for my work)...buy another of the same model, make sure that the new one works, then return the bad one in the box (and from the order) of the new one. You should be able to return it for credit. :)
-
DR John G, I'm so sorry to hear about your friend.
Me too :(
-
I have a problem. Some type of turpentine (or something like it) spilled in the room where my computer is. I am extremely sensitive to smells. And my eyes burn so bad when i am near the smell. It has been removed. But i don't know if there is some type of clean up i need to do. I can't really tell if there is any on the carpet. And i can't go near it to check it out. I hope the smell is much less by tomorrow. :(

Sorry about this news. But hopefully this will get them to do what you want.

From DR TCB:
Feel better vibes to DR Vixmom and DR Jane!
Thanks. I will once I can get these glasses fixed.
You should get those things that you put on the bottom of your boots that stop you from slipping on ice.

VIBES the Macbeths come around and do "something good"!

I'm guessing you aren't the one who spilled the turpentine. Can you leave a window open to air out the room? I know how toxic that stuff can be.
VIBES THE SMELL IS GONE, OR AT LEAST TOLERABLE BY TOMORROW!!!
-
DR Ginny- I'm sorry to hear about Rob's job.

They hurt my shoulder to put on and off, and they are not easy to walk in off of the ice.

Lots of icy roads in the area. Tomorrow we are supposed to get up to 5 inches of snow, which is a major event for the DC area.

You are truly taxing our Vibe abilities with this one ;)
MEGA DITTO ON THE VIBES!!!

Do you mean in December or all winter?
I was there once February when it was extremely cold and there had been a big snow storm.
The last time Craig lived in Maryland there were several major snow storms.

Here's another cloud over our heads today:
Ohio's Largest EMS Providers Close... (http://www.ems1.com/ems-products/ambulances/articles/1630161-Ohio-s-largest-EMS-providers-close-overnight-hundreds-lose-jobs/)
Our son Rob worked for one of these companies in Cincinnati. He received the news via phone at 10pm Friday evening.
Ginny, this is terrible.
~~~Vibes of All Kinds for DS Rob!!~~~
DR TCB a good keyboard is important. Can you exchange it?
I didn't keep the recipt or the box. I will try it for a while, andi f it doesn't get better, I will buy a new one and donate this one to the Salvation Army.
Tom, if you otherwise like this particular model, do what I do (and have even done for my work)...buy another of the same model, make sure that the new one works, then return the bad one in the box (and from the order) of the new one. You should be able to return it for credit. :)
Good idea, George! Thanks.
-
DR Ginny, I hope this helps to cheer you up!
TAPS arrived at my house today.
I also purchased the television cast recording of THE SOUND OF MUSIC that includes a second disk of nine orchestral tracks.
I received TAPS, too! I also bought THE SOUND OF MUSIC, but from Amazon, so it's only the one disc with no bonus tracks. If only I'd known. :)
Just found out that one of the nicest people I've met in San Antonio's restaurant scene died this morning from cancer. It's come as a big shock. We'd been praying for her husband, who has been in need of a kidney transplant for several years. Never knew that she had health issues, too.
John, I'm so sorry. :(
TOD: I hate mics on actors. It is may be the single thing I hate most about today's theatre. If you can't hit the back wall of the theatre through natural vocal projection, then you either shouldn't be in the business or the venue is too damned big for theatre. I'm in theatres all the time where I've either performed or seen others perform and they never required mics, but do these days. The worst part is the mics make actors very lazy. Yes, you can hear them but you can't understand them, because with their crutch...the mic...their diction and enunciation gets sloppy. And the visible head mic is the worst thing for the willing suspension of disbelief since bad acting.
I've been in and seen shows without microphones and couldn't understand certain people because they couldn't enunciate...or they just spoke too quickly. You'd think that they would want to be understood.
Bad family news: my dad's company is doing poorly, so Jo and Randy have told me not to expect anything from them for Christmas. That's fine with me, but i responded that he and Macbeth need to drop their greedy dreams on that property, list it with a realtor at a salable price and then invest the money in a bank account rather than wait for some idiot to purchase the land at the ridiculously high price they're asking.
Goneril and Regan need their butts kicked.
That's too back about your dad's company, but good for you for letting them know how you feel!! Hopefully, it'll do some good.
And the Citibank crisis is over. The funds, which should have been deposited last thursday have finally landed in my checking account.
Halle-freakin'-looyah!! ;D
It is official, I will be directing GUYS & DOLLS in June.
Congrats, Jack!
-
Had a grilled cheese and bacon sandwich, picked up one little package, and have been relaxing otherwise, but also catching up on benefit details.
-
A family I know left a gift for me by the front door - a plateful of homemade latkes, which I'll heat up later and have for my evening snack.
Oh no! 'Sound of Music' actress Eleanor Parker dies at 91 (http://xfinity.comcast.net/articles/entertainment/20131209/US--Film-Obit-Eleanor.Parker/). :(
-
I bought myself a wireless keyboard and it is driving me crazy. I have to be very heavy handed (pun intended) when typing or it doesn't register the keystroke. The worst seems to be the spacebar. Maybe it takes time to loosen up, or maybe I just bought a cheap model, but it is making my already bad typing skills, even worse.
How far is the keyboard from the wireless thingy? I have that problem at work once in a while and when I move the wireless thingy it works again.. Or sometimes I replace the batteries in the keyboard and it works better
-
Ginny, so sorry about Rob's job. Vibes he finds something very soon
I'm recording 6 by Sondheim on HBO tonight
-
I'm going to watch part 2 of Bonnie and Clyde. Part 1 was ok. It was very true to the real story
-
I'm recording 6 by Sondheim on HBO tonight
I wish I had HBO, but I'd read that it might be released on DVD. That would be great!
-
I wish I knew how to record onto a disk from my dvr. I don't think this one has the capability
I always liked her. I wondered why ABC showed clips of her in that movie during the news broadcast tonight. It was across the gym with the sound down.
It is amazing how many hours of my time it took to change my book group meeting, and then only by one day. We are meeting on Wednesday instead of Tuesday because it works for everyone. I shouldn't have let myself me talked into changing it.
I am sooooo relieved I'm done with this, at least I hope I am. It is still very icy out there.
-
Good evening.
-
Good evening.
Indeed, it is.
I have not had time to read at all today :o
DR John G, I am so sorry about your friend. I had meant to post this before i headed to midtown.
And what's 40 years among friends? I've just had the best five hours of my life in some time, and I hated to say good night to Craig and Janet. We spent two and a half hours in the bar of the Marriott, then had a two and a half hour dinner at Joe Allen. I had the meat loaf, Janet had the fish tacos, ad Craig had liver and banana cream pie at my urging,
I have to put my meds together and get to bed. Good night, everyone!
-
Thanks, DRs KevinH, George, and Cillaliz, for the nice comments about Rob. We'll learn more when we go out for my early birthday dinner tomorrow. We scheduled it to accommodate Rob's work hours...
-
I am 4 books ahead of schedule on my challenge at Goodreads to read 150 books this year. This far into December, no way will I be able to read 6 more books this month. ;D
-
Momentarily, until I realized that I'm going out to lunch with a friend on Wednesday and wouldn't want to go out for dinner the same day.
-
Two days of birthday fun, that works :)
-
I was really disheartened for a while about giving up jobs that I loved to move and be unemployed, but then I thought - this is crazy; how many times in my adult life will I go through the holiday season without the responsibility of a job? I'm going to try to fully live through and ENJOY this holiday season. And so far, I am!
-
I don't mean to downplay the painful and very real financial stress that DS Rob is undoubtedly going through with this news.
-
Finished Mud, which was fascinating but the violence at the end was hard to watch. So, I'm watching Secondhand Lions to liven things up a bit. Nice to see the ramshackle splendor of Cele Store, one of the barbecue joints used as a set, in an upbeat picture, as opposed to the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre.
Let's get a move on!
Seven!
Thank you, all, for the condolences. The outpouring of comments from the community has been something, but Barbara deserved no less. Here's a story on her that only begins to scratch the surface.
Finished with my viewing.
Just as much as I thought all the vitriolic outrage over Carrie Underwood playing Maria was just silly and classless, Carrie's twitter response preaching Jesus at her critics is just as silly and classless. Be a pro, Carrie! Let the comments of internet armchair nerds be ignored as they should.
