HHW was very slow and balky for the last hour, but now it seems to be fine again.
Good morning, all.
Hopefully it's a day in which some needed work gets done. I've already made my first batch of Christmas baked goods. I hope to get in a second this afternoon some time.
And the word of the day is: BLANDISH!
DR Elmore: Sorry for brain fart, but was this Encores! work for LITTLE ME? What is the nature of it (if you're permitted to share)?

I have not said what I'm doing on LITTLE ME, DR ChasSmith. The Tams-Witmark rental materials have cut the 4th trumpet from the show. Working from the orchestra parts and the P/C, I'm reconstructing it. Forensic science in the musical theatre, and I'm pretty good at it.

OMG, forensic science for sure.
How does stuff like that go astray? And it's just that one part? Are such parts sometimes considered overkill for most rental situations, so they just omit them without even hanging on to original material? And no full score exists? (Duh.)
Fascinating stuff. And yes, you must be! :)

Any barbecue in those?
I'm up, I'm up, had a nice little chat with dear reader Druxy, who is mere moments away at the Sportsman's Lodge, the site of my brother's Bar Mitzvah in 1957.
Larry Moore, MTSI (Musical Theater Score Investigations), instead of CSI.
Has a nice ring to it.
God alone knows where Ralph Burns' full scores may be.

OMG! Part of the roof of the Apollo Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue in London has collapsed and killed several during a performance this afternoon of "The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Nighttime."
Cute photo of Joshie! An elephant never forgets.
Joshie and I were just PM'ing about orchestration books. He thinks I should write one and he says: it should be called "What Fresh Hell Is This? - A guide to getting in and out of sticky orchestration situations"

I can't imagine anyone wanting to read it.
I'm more concerned with the memoirs - like not getting sued for slander- and the BABES IN TOYLAND history.
From last night's posts: Thank you so much to Sam and also to vixmom.
vixmom - Thanks for your other note as well.
(I don't know that Dylan understands, as Toby's been away temporarily in the past.)

Just read that. Horrible.
Hello, from the Sportsman's Lodge in Studio City.
Thank God! Some money has come in. I'm still waiting on the 2013 royalties check from my publisher, but it's nice to have something in the bank besides pennies.
Speaking of my adopted son Joshie, he's been to FAO Schawrtz this month!

I would buy it...even just for the title!

Yes it's receiving major, constant coverage on the news channels here. It is a very old theatre of course. No fatalities reported but many serious injuries.
Have I regaled you with the stories of my early days as a child model?

Goodbye for now!
I'm two hours away from pulling the plug on it

Congrats. Now read a book or three for me.
Sort of a child Nellie Lovett?
DR Jane, I am so impressed that you read 150 books in 2013.
I would be proud to read 50!
You are so inspiring. You make me want to read more!

I watched the first fifty minutes of The Butler - oh, excuse me, Lee Daniels' The Butler - which is a load of chutzpah for someone whose fourth film this is. It's exactly what you'd think - its sole purpose seems to be end-of-year Oscar bait because it's Screenwriting 101, Directing 101, and Acting 101. From frame one you can actually predict how each moment will be handled. And that's moviemaking today, and why I found Philomena so good - a real director.
I'm two hours away from pulling the plug on it
I sincerely hope that it does not come to that.

A few months ago, I was involved with a stage production of "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe." I've finally downloaded all the books of "The Chronicles of Narnia" from the library and am reading them on my Kindle (I just started "The Silver Chair"). I remember that I started to read them when I was in middle school, but I don't know if I even finished them.
Anyway, I'm reading them in original published order (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Chronicles_of_Narnia#Reading_order), instead of internal chronological order, which to me makes a lot of sense. I'm enjoying them, but "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" seemed to be a total waste. I have no idea what the point of it was. We'll see if I feel that way about any of the other books.
We both liked it....but both agree we probably won't be recommending it to people. Not sure what that means, but it was our response
I shall shortly be on my way to the theater, after a long telephonic conversation - I think everyone has now heard me and it looks like we can proceed apace in terms of the recording.
Morning, all!
TOD: Only film I've seen Dame Judi in was Shakespeare in Love, which I thought was ok. Her performance of "Send in the Clowns" on the "Hey, Mr. Producer!" tribute to Cameron Mackintosh, on the other hand, was just magnificent.
"Blandish" is a perfect description of the chili that I made the other night when I forgot to add the cayenne and zhug. :)
I just had my first hot bath since last Friday's accident with a knife, and it felt really wonderful. Washing oneself from a basin is no fun at all. I still have no idea when I will get back to the ER to have these stitches removed. Maybe on Saturday after the movie.

LOL, Jane you're pretty close. It really did seem like a very long journey.
I'm talking to Bryan who said take them out yourself. ;D

Oy! Yikes! :o
I'm not sure I'd go that far myself, but I do think any old doctor or nurse could remove them just fine.
I put this in the box I sent to my sister this year http://www.poopourri.com/ (http://www.poopourri.com/) Along with a number of other things
I am not looking forward to the weather here this weekend. 10-15 cms of snow tomorrow, another 10cm on Saturday. And then either an ice storm or another 10-15cm on Sunday (most likely ice). Ugh. Is winter over yet?

My mom is a retired LPN (licensed practical nurse). She's fearless...she'd probably even take out staples herself.

Ouch!
In related matters, Richard caught his finger in the industrial strength tape dispenser that I inherited from my Dad and keep on the package wrapping table. There's quite a gash that I thought should have been looked at right away. At least I've convinced him to see the doctor tomorrow about a tetanus shot.

Thanks for your lyric comment last night, John G.

One more day of work before I get a week off!!!
Back from the show, which was terrific. Wonderful audience response and everyone did really well. Sami's been sick all week, but you wouldn't have known it from her performance. Carolyn Mignini was in the audience. At one point the artistic director really wanted her in the show, but the way I was building it wasn't going to be right for her, and I didn't want six people because that becomes very hard to stage, whereas five is easy in terms of pictures.
