Happiest of birthdays to DR ryacko!
ChasSmith, what did you think of Tokyo Story?

Loved it! Love both. Ozu is definitely working for me. Any suggestions on which should be my third?
How about a used car, DR Jrand63? :)
TOD:
DVD: The Ref, Kiki and Herb at the Knitting Factory (their Christmas story is a real wopper!)
CD: Christmas CDs, including Bobby Darin, the Andrews Sisters, the Drifters, Mel Torme, Maureen McGovern
Car CD: The Sharper the Cut, the Less You Cry by Kathleen Flinn (has anyone here read this food memoir?)
Well, it has finally started snowing here. I was expecting it last night, but it just really started coming down in the last half hour.
Best return of a used item story ever.... A woman came into a store to return an obviously very used purse. It was scratched, the inside was obviously used and was even full of makeup and other things. The woman insisted to the clerk that the purse was never used. The clerk pointed out the obvious worn and dirty areas to the woman. The woman got irate and demanded to see the store manager. The woman insisted that the purse was never used and that the clerk was wrong. The manager told the clerk to take the purse and return the money (of course there was no sales receipt). The manager of course was wrong as the purse was very used but more importantly undermined the clerk. Anyway, the manager told the clerk to clean up the returned purse (why clean up a never used item huh?) and return it to the display with the other purses. The clerk did what she was told. In the process of cleaning the purse, she found 2 airline tickets in a side pocket. She took the tickets and promptly tore them up. After all the purse was never used so how could they be there? About an hour later the woman returned to the store in a huff and demanded to know where the purse she returned was. The clerk smiled and told the woman that the purse was over in the display with the other purses. The woman frantically searched all the purses, of course with no luck. Poetic justice.
Of course nowadays, DR George, the woman could probably just re-print her airline tickets at the airport kiosk. :P

THANK YOU ALL FOR THE BIRTHDAY LOVE AND GOOD WISHES!
I am deeply honored, being such a newbie here. Truly, thank you all for your kindness!
BK, it looks like it's been quite the wonderful year for you. Maybe we should all look back like that and count our blessings.
I will begin by saying: Thank you, BK, for inviting me into your Kritzerland world this year. It has been a joy and a blessing!
Okay, this is funny...in THIS (http://www.cnbc.com/id/101048141) article about Bloomingdale's adding a "b-tag" to clothes that can't easily be hidden so that people can't buy something, wear it and then return it, someone in the comments told this story (this is the funny part):QuoteBest return of a used item story ever.... Granted, this might not even be a true story, but it's a good one!
Karma's a bitch, ain't it? ;)

Show us your birth certificate, DR TCB! Or is the stone it's carved on too heavy to lift?

I read it a while back. As someone who vastly prefers watching Julia Child to any contemporary food show, I enjoyed the descriptions of the "old-school" personalities and techniques. The memoir portion was less memorable, and I didn't really get a feel (or care much, quite frankly) for the character of the narrator, probably because her life to that point really wasn't all that astonishing.
We seem to have reached a lull.
I was trying to find a book today to give to my 21 year old nephew, but I couldn't find much....lots of fantasy which he enjoys....but many of the books seem to have female protagonists which I am not sure is his favorite....
Finally found one that seemed pretty good....we shall see.

I was just watching ABC news. The reporter quoted the president as saying "When it comes to athletic performance we don't make a distinction based on sexual performance" I think he meant preference, LOL

First and Foremost, Belated Happy Birthday Greetings to Jane, Bruce, Mike Barnum, Ginny, ChasSmith and Penny-O!
Speaking of pie o' the month, Jane and Michael Stern offer some hints on mail-order pies worth ordering:

I need to find something with a very strong smell that i can use to cover the faint smell of the turpentine that is still by my computer.
It is still burning my eyes. It was better in the room during the freezing cold smell.
:(

So nice to have you here!
I also settled my claim today for my accident. It's not a lot of money in the grand scheme of things, but it fixes the cash flow problem since the accident and makes it totally ok for Edith and I to close the office for a week. :)

I am also back after a very full day of errands, including a run up to Poughkeepsie where I believe they're still picking their feet. It's a beautiful drive, especially along the Taconic State Parkway, but on every other road the traffic was just horrible. For no discernible reason. Even around "Road Work" areas. There's just no explanation for it. I think we've gotten to the point where the only remedy is immediate revocation of all IDIOTS' drivers licenses, which will pretty much leave me on the highways by myself, but what are you gonna do.

Was that from today's press conference? I guess I was asleep by then. I lay down around two, woke up for a bit of the press conference and slept through most of Doctor Phil.
And I'm still sleepy. I hope my Britcoms are back tonight and that the PBS begging is over.
According to the summons I received today I will have to begin Jury Duty on January 30th. I have to call the evening before to see if they still need/want me. I haven't done JD since 2006. Before that I did it like clockwork, when the schedule was every 2 years. Now they have made exemptions much stricter and it's hard to get out of JD (not that I ever did). Almost everyone has to show up for at least 1 day. Back in the day I did JD 6 times between 1986 and 2006. I did Criminal, Civil, Federal and Grand Jury (I have the fingerprints to prove it) and all the cases (except for Grand Jury) came to verdict.

LOL I hope the reporter misquoted the President and not the other way.

Do you have a fan you can blow on the area?
I found variations of this method:
Air a room where turpentine has been spilt on the floor or carpet. Sop up the excess with paper towels and let the area dry. Clean the floor with soapy water. If the spill is on a carpet, sprinkle baking soda, a powder carpet freshener or kitty litter over the turpentine. This should soak up extra liquid and neutralise the smell. Vacuum the carpet after a few hours.

I'm assuming the reporter made the mistake
TOD: Nothing, but I am listening to a live comedy show. It is called "DR Sandra Attempts to Apply for Obamacare." It's a real hoot.

The problem is that it's behind a cabinet. I will try the baking soda. I can't vacuum there though. I did use soapy water.

They said, "Sexual orientation" on the West Coast.
This is one movie I do want to see.
