Well, you've read the notes, the notes stumbled through and were magical, and now it is time for you to post until the magical stumbling cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: PUNNET!
-
Good morning, all! I slept well, and i a, on my first cup of coffee. I will shortly walk to the bank and get some cash, then head down to Toyland. It will be a long day. I have things to accomplish before Rob Berman arrives, and then he and I will go through all the current ROBERTA tsuris, listen to and discuss the first edit, and plan the February sessions.
As to the current tsuris, I think/hope we've resolved the mess to everyone's satisfaction. As the old adage says, Time will tell.
I'll check in from Toyland. Right now, more coffee!
-
Good morning, all.
This is early on a Sunday morning for me, but only DR Elmore after BK?
Coffee! And, I believe, there's a cinnamon roll. And a banana.
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
What a cute bunch of kids! I hope there'll be clips of some of the songs at some point.
-
This Kritzerland show sounds it will be a real gem.
~ ~ ~ MOST EXCELLENT BREAK-A-LEG VIBES, XYLOPHONES, & GLOCKENSPIELS ~ ~ ~ to bk, cast, and crew for tonight's performance!
-
I know it isn't ask bk day, but I am curious...
Do you approach song sequencing differently depending on whether it is for a recording versus a live stage presentation or a benefit review?

Good morning!

Last night Cilla said:
"I'm watching a CNN special I have already seen...and wasn't that interested in the first time lol"
I feel like that sometimes even with CNN's regular programming. Something compelling about some CNN shows that makes you watch, even if not interesting. :)

Send in the Clones?

And greetings from Toyland! It was a nice driver and an easy taxi ride, costing me nothing in this morning's non-traffic.
-
good morning to all

Catching up on a month of postings. Didn't realize how much I missed.
From Dec 10th: Welcome back DR ELAN. How about an update photo of you and the kids!!
From Dec 11th: A VERY BELATED birthday wish to DR. GINNY
From Dec 12th: DR Michael Barnum said "Oh my. LIL ABNER was the first play I ever did in High School. Thankfully I did not have any lines." I'm surprised no one asked, so I am going to: "Did you play the silent role of Stupefyin' Jones?
From Dec 14th: Dr Ryacko mentioned the song "Rainbows" written for a film version of Into the Woods. It didn't make into the film and neither did any of the other songs written at that time. A new song for the Witch was written. As Meryl Streep said, ""I have a new song that Sondheim wrote for me, so it's all very, very," gushed the award-winning actress. "He gave me the manuscript of it and he wrote, 'don't f**k it up!'"
More to come
-
Nice photo in the notes! Break a leg vibes for MR BK & Co.
-
DR SINGDAW I am glad you have your car ready for the winter! That photo you just posted is disturbing on many levels.
DR CILLA LIZ - The Moonstone is my favorite Collins book, although TWIW ain't too shabby neither.
-
Perhaps the menu should have read:
Salmon en le Bilge.

Great picture of the young troops!
Break-a-leg VIBES to BK and company for a stupendous show tonight!
-
Sunday morning greetings! So, what was supposed to be snow starting at 3 or 4 this morning is actually rain that didn't start until about 9. We could still get some white stuff, but it's not going to be the snowpocalypse they were predicting yesterday.
-
January show vibes to BK and all those kids!
-
Good morning, all.
Break-a-leg vibes for the BK and the Kritzerland cast!
And I second Kerry's suggestion that a video clip or three would be nice.
-
I wanted to sleep only six hours last night because of so much work on the book. But my body made me stay in bed for close to nine hours.
-
We watched PARKLAND this weekend, which we liked. (I did not know that Lee Harvey Oswald had a brother.)
Also, THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES, which was well acted, but had some storytelling issues that didn't really work.
-
BK,
Once it gets going, I think that THE TALL T is the best of the Randolph Scott/Budd Boetticher Westerns.
I'm surprised you TIVOd it. I thought you had the 5-disc Scott/Boetticher set from Sony.
-
I've had this damn cough for almost a month.
I've gone through 2 series of antibiotics.
I'm thinking that I've developed some sort of allergy here in Austin.

Break a leg vibes to BK and his cast and crew!

Richard and I just took advantage of our non-weather to get the lighted evergreen garland and red bows off the front porch railing.
-
There's a fire in the building across the street, lots of fire trucks around.
-
The fire was just reported on the news.
-
DR DRUXY I liked PARKLAND....I thought the guy that played Oswald was uncanny....he looked JUST like him.
DR GINNY we have LOTS of snow....probably four inches now....and headed for twelve inches....scary.
-
Sneaking in here before the last day of the first rehearsal week and the end of my marathon this week. Last Sunday, I left my house in CA at the buttcrack of dawn and 26 hours later arrived in Maine, and I feel like I haven't stopped. Since then, we've staged almost the entire show. Now if I can just learn the fricken "Tchaikovsky" lyrics....
Anywhoo.... most importantly: Wishing BK and his young starlings (as well as Adryan and Kay and the M.Dir.) a brilliant Kritzerland show tonight!! I know you all will rock the musical heavens. Just sorry I can't be there to see and hear it all!
To the rest, Happy New Year, if I haven't said it already!
Off now to rehearsal in our balmy weather. After Friday's minus 3, 22 degrees feels warm. :D

DR DRUXY I liked PARKLAND....I thought the guy that played Oswald was uncanny....he looked JUST like him.
DR GINNY we have LOTS of snow....probably four inches now....and headed for twelve inches....scary.
We actually need snow. The snow cover protects plants, bushes trees etc from these outrageously low temps. we have an inch or so on the ground now, but that's recent. We are 9 inches below average and I'm afraid it may already be too late for a lot of plants. The same thing happened a year or two ago and all my bushes on one side of my yard died from the cold. It's not a good thing

I am uploading a better backyard video.....

Has Ben left for Tacoma yet?

You will be lucky someday DR CILLA LIZ. I, too, love snow....and I am so glad I don't have to go anyplace....today....tomorrow is a rehearsal, but it is not mandatory if we are snowed in....and tonight and tomorrow we expect wind chill temperatures of 30-40 degrees BELOW zero.

I don't think the taxi got to his house yet.

Watching the Cincinnati Bengals try to advance in the playoffs. There was much drama this past week with the NFL threatening to black out the broadcast because it wasn't a sell-out. Kroger and Proctor & Gamble bought out the stadium and gave away the tickets to active and retired military.

Thanks Jennifer, I started using it a couple years ago, but wasn't doing a self challenge or trying to track the number read in a year, so I lost interest. I think this will get me to keep using it

I'm going to an intimate concert of Gershwin songs at the Ordway in downtown St. Paul this evening. I will have a full report.

I do, too! From the looks of the stands, not all the tickets were claimed, but you really have to look for empty seats.

And people who can't get out for whatever reason, can't afford a ticket or don't want to be in the cold can still enjoy the game from the warmth of their homes.

Yes, Meijer bought out the stadium yesterday so that the television blackout could be lifted - those tickets were also donated to military familes.

I have a very specific way of sequencing albums. The Kritzerland shows are different, but I also have a very specific way of sequencing those. Pure Imagination was a different kind of thing, in that there's various kinds of subtle storytelling going on in how the evening is sequenced. And benefits are something completely different again - mostly having to do with performers and building the evening.

Grilled humans.....if this weather stays like this....it may become so.
We lost a LARGE limb off the elm tree in the front yard. And now the wind and bitterly cold temperatures have set in.
DePauw University campus has been closed Monday & Tuesday, so I will miss NO rehearsals.
-
Yes, Jrand63 - it's downtown St. Paul, so it will happen. Sort of like Broadway in NYC - rarely closes due to weather, although it is not unheard of in extreme circumstances.
I have been told that the audience for this "songbook" series is quite small, so they usually seat the entire audience right up on the stage. Could be interesting!
-
Typical annoying government response by Lori Miser Director of Public Works on complaints about the snow removal:
"I will not apologize. We have done nothing wrong. We made no mistakes."
If this was true....why were there any complaints? :o This was Saturday....we'll see what she has to say tomorrow.
-
Be careful out there, DRs! At wind chills this low, exposed flesh develops frostbite in 5 minutes.

And on that charming note, let us move this party along to the next page...

This seems appropriate for the weather outside, which is indeed frightful:

As of right now, I counted 130 closings in the area listed on a local tv station website. I called Edith, we were able to contact all the clients set for appointments tomorrow and we also will be closed. The HIGH temp tomorrow is supposed to be -7 with wind chills between -30 and -50. I'm really happy that everyone is closing and staying home. It's the safest thing to do. By next Sunday it will be 38 degrees. This too shall pass

DOWNTON time....Hoo and Ray!!!!!

Tea is brewing in the Brown Betty and we are settling down to watch Downton Abbey

Downton Abbey reduced me to tears at least three times in its 2-hour slot, but the last scene with Carsen and Griggs was the clincher.

'night!

Back from the show, and will have to catch up on Downton tomorrow.
The show was really delightful. 10 singers, a narrator, a nine-foot concert grand, and a string bass. I imagine it is sort of what the Kritzerland at Sterling shows are like, albeit with a few more performers. The Gershwin songs were all great, as were the performers, and imaginative arrangements. The stage was set up at the back of the main stage, and the audience (about 300, I'd say) were seated in chairs placed on the stage, with our backs to the house. This is part of an "American Songbook" series, which would be worth exploring for the remainder of their shows.
And home in less than 5 minutes! :)
-

Oh I think he's going to have his hands full this season
-
Wow, I did another page turn
-
How bizarre to have a "cold" day instead of a "snow" day. But I'll take it
-
Well, those who were at the Kritzerland show tonight saw nine amazing kids and one amazing adult - it could not have been a better show, and some folks who've been to a lot of our shows said it was their favorite of all of them. I had one guy who was petrified of coming to see a show with nine kids, but he absolutely loved it and them. Paige Befeler, Brennley Brown, Quintan Craig, Oliviana Marie, Hadley Belle Miller, Jenna Lea Rosen, Sami Staitman, Sarah Staitman, Carter Thomas and Sharon McNight. So proud of each and every young person for delivering truthful, funny, and beautiful performances. All accompanied by Tom Griep, and Kay Cole's delightful choreography for one number, and all co-produced by Adryan Russ. I even got through my tongue-twisting Maladjusted Jester song without screwing up. :)
I will have photos at some point and I will have several videos.
-
loooking forward to the videos

Buckled down, Winsocki and wrote three pages just now, so I guess in total I've done five today. I'm doing a sequence I'm really liking.

A co-worker (actually, one of my staff) loaned me her DVD of "Kismet." I've never watched it all the way through. I really like it. Big emotional songs, great voices, incredible costumes all in CinemaScope...what's not to like? :)
