Videos will probably be in tomorrow night's notes. I know we have Hadley's I Won't Grow Up, and I know we have Sami's Annie, which I'm anxious to share, and I know we have Jenna's Disneyland.
Today is Epiphany and that means 1) the Wise Men have arrived at their destination in our Nativity scene, and 2) I can start undecking the halls. Seems like this stuff just went up...

DR TCB - did you try bribing it with veggie pizza?
And the word of the day is: RUCK!
Who watched KISMET yesterday?
My favorite part was that everyone had to lean forward to get their hats through the doors....especially Sebastian Cabot.
I was wondering who would have thought that THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY would be a good idea for a musical. Then I saw who wrote the music.
So, yesterday I finally got around to setting up the laptop for comfortable reading in the movie room, putting THE UMBRELLAS OF CHERBOURG on the Big Screen and Big Speakers, and following this PDF copy of the piano/conductor score of the 1979 stage version. Fascinating!
This is one of those scores that runs the gamut from handwritten (in various hands) to typeset, and from nicely detailed to extremely sketchy.
Did anyone here see a staged production or know how well (or not) the scoring or anything else was adapted? I only just learned that the English translation was by Sheldon Harnick. Anyhoo, I'm happy to say the score is faithful to the film from first note to last; I mean, everything is BASICALLY there. I don't know what size of band it was arranged for -- obviously nothing like the film orchestra, and there's enough detail to indicate quite a bit of re-orchestration -- but I'm just so happy to have the damned notes. As sketchy as some passages are in this copy, the framework is there, and seeing what this incredible Legrand actually looks like is so damned rewarding. When I'm better set up for it (I'm going to have to get some kind of tablet or iPad and a digital music app), I'll sit down and get some of it into my fingers.
If any of youse music reading types don't already have the score, and want it, you know where to find me.
Now I wish someone had done the same for YOUNG GIRLS OF ROCHEFORT, just so's I could grab the music...
Back at work today after a month off.
Augh.
Ruck it!

More interesting would be to follow the score from the complete score to the film, which is published and fantastic to have - I found it on amazon I think.
All, I could use some good recording schedule vibes! Yesterday, Rob Berman and I set up one to fit the scheduling problems, but it all depends on Feb 23 being available to us at the studio.
On a more positive note, th elevator seems to be repaired.

Yes.
My symphathies on the loss of your grandmother, DR Elan.
Afternoon, all!
Sorry about not posting much recently. I've been away from the computer all weekend, due to dealing with the inclement weather and my grandmother's funeral. She was a wonderful woman who had been on the decline for far too long, and I was fortunately able to say goodbye to her.

That was George.
My favorite was Delores Gray.

The real temp here right now is -22 (wind chill of -48). Soon the dog will be begging for a long walk.
This is bizarre: In the past three hours it's dropped from 55 to 45. I guess I'd best get me out there and run those errands.
Do you have booties for him

TOD:
Favorite Italian food: pizza, osso bucco
There aren't too many Kosher Italian places that I've been to, but there used to be a hole-in-the-wall on the Upper East Side called Gusta Va Mare that served a fantastic crostini appetizer and delicious brazzini. Unfortunately, their quality apparently declined significantly between the first and second time I ate there (several years apart). Mike's Bistro on the upper west side served a stunning, if expensive, osso bucco-type dish. Haven't been there in far too long.

Looks like a film that DR MBarnum would love!
The young man on the left died in the fire yesterday. I didn't know either of them, but he was a friend of David Zelnik, who wrote YANK!, and who worked with me in the 1990sat the Drama Book Shop/
So sad.
I'm still at work.
I have decided I am not going to go out for 12 ANGRY MEN.

Not any longer. I'm going home...after a little shopping. I need to get a new hair brush. I started to clean mine yesterday and realized that it was just a bit too old and probably a little too icky. I decided that I should just throw it out and get a new one, so I threw it away. But that was yesterday and I hadn't gotten a new one, yet. AND I couldn't get my old one back to use this morning because it was in the trash with the kitty litter. :P
So, a new one will be gotten now.
Until later!
Oh dear, George is now gone. I am all alone!! :o

When I was younger I dated a young man of Italian heritage -- every Sunday he brought me to his mother's house for Sunday dinner which always included homemade manicotti , the pasta so thin and light it practically floated above the plate
I dated that young man a full month longer than I should have .. I so hated giving up those Sunday dinners....
All my myself!

oddly enough we will be passingthrough again ina couple of weeks as we make the trip again
I just checked out my EZ pass records from the trip and the toll does not appear - although a toll a few minutes earlier and a few minutes later do appear so evidently it was a problem with their toll machine not my pass
Didja notice we made it to page seven while I spouted nonsense?

Yes Vixdad and I are going on our first vacation sans Vixter in 21 years ....in fact the last time we made this trek alone I was 6 months along so technically she was on that trip as well
I have been building a dummy out of old hair brushes and kitty litter
When are you going to Florida?
I have decided I am not going to go out for 12 ANGRY MEN.

Well, maybe you should invite her along?
So, you two are actually going to take a vacation?
Well, it looks like one of BK's recordings is going in the barbecue book as a short item. Naturally, it's Das Barbecu.
A new copy on amazon is selling for $45.
I have decided I am not going to go out for 12 ANGRY MEN.
Would you consider another play in the future?
Was trying to watch something, but can't concentrate. I've written about three pages and must write three more at least. I think when I finish chapter three, I'll print out and bring to Muse Margaret tomorrow. That will be just under forty pages.
I have decided I am not going to go out for 12 ANGRY MEN.
Would you consider another play in the future?
Yes, maybe after the winter is over. In fact, I have been talking up this one man play about Orson Welles. However, I need to see if the playwright would write something in to explain why he is in a wheelchair.
of course we no longer have any snow the rain came and melted it all and now it is safely stored in my basement
Oh, that would be cool! They would definitely need to record that for archival purposesI have decided I am not going to go out for 12 ANGRY MEN.

would you have to be in a wheelchair? Why not seated in a plush office chair behind a desk?

But if you stick the character in a chair, then there will be no movement at all during the play.
I do like the broken sled.
Well its time to throw another load of towels into the dryer and another bunch of wet ones into the washer....
