Videos will probably be in tomorrow night's notes.  I know we have Hadley's I Won't Grow Up, and I know we have Sami's Annie, which I'm anxious to share, and I know we have Jenna's Disneyland.

The real temp here right now is -22 (wind chill of -48). Soon the dog will be begging for a long walk.

The landlord has requested that we keep a trickle of water running in all faucets to try to prevent them from freezing up (much of the plumbing apparently runs along exterior walls).

Good news on last night's show, BK!

Good morning, all! My alarm was set to ring at 6:30, but I was wide awake by 5:15 and could not get back to sleep, thinking about the recording schedule for February. So, at 6am, I got up, washed up, and I'm on my first cup of coffee. I'll leave here around 8:15, take the 104 bus to 59th Street, transfer to the No 20 or No 7 bus to 23rd and Seventh, then take a crosstown bus to Fifth Avenue, all to see my eye doctor at 9:30.

Depending on the eye exam, and eye drops, I may go to Toyland for a bit or just take a No 7 bus - the one I waited for for over 30 minutes last night - and head back home.

I had a long day at Toyland; first, there was some cleanup and also a search for some music, followed by some housekeeping work on my office computer. Rob arrived around 3:30, and we talked schedule for the Feb recording, listened to the seven pop singers of 1932 ridiculed in "Don't Ask Me Not To Sing" ad discussed their mannerisms and affectations. Then we listened to all of ROBERTA and discussed fixes.

We finished a little before 7:00, and I headed for the bus stop. The worst part of the 30+ minute wait for a No 7 bus is that this stop has no bench, so I was forced to stand and navigate with a heavy shopping bag and cane.

To add insult to injury, I got home to find the elevator is once again out of order, so I had to drag myself, cane, and shopping bag up three flights. I was quite pissed.

More coffee!

Well...   ...let me just say this. You can tell it's cold out. The moment you step through the door, it penetrates right through all the layers, the shoes, the gloves, the hats, and announces itself to your bones: it's COLD!      :P

We normally walk about an hour, the dog and I. This morning, I kept it to less than 10 minutes, because I was worried about the dog getting frostbite. He didn't do his business, which means another short walk later.  Yeeehaaaa!

Oh man, we are in our thaw here.  It actually started last night.  The driveway is completely clear of snow, and it's quite foggy.  It's supposed to reach 49 today, then freefall back down to the single digits.  Incredible.

UPDATE:  Make that an expected high of 55 -- which they claim it already is right now --followed by a precipitous drop to 5.  Whee!!!

Whatever is wet out there will be flash frozen and it'll be treacherous tonight.

I shall be running my few errands this morning, and be comfortably re-ensconced at home well before that happens, thankyouverymuch.

So, yesterday I finally got around to setting up the laptop for comfortable reading in the movie room, putting THE UMBRELLAS OF CHERBOURG on the Big Screen and Big Speakers, and following this PDF copy of the piano/conductor score of the 1979 stage version.  Fascinating!

This is one of those scores that runs the gamut from handwritten (in various hands) to typeset, and from nicely detailed to extremely sketchy.

Did anyone here see a staged production or know how well (or not) the scoring or anything else was adapted?  I only just learned that the English translation was by Sheldon Harnick.  Anyhoo, I'm happy to say the score is faithful to the film from first note to last; I mean, everything is BASICALLY there.  I don't know what size of band it was arranged for -- obviously nothing like the film orchestra, and there's enough detail to indicate quite a bit of re-orchestration -- but I'm just so happy to have the damned notes.  As sketchy as some passages are in this copy, the framework is there, and seeing what this incredible Legrand actually looks like is so damned rewarding.  When I'm better set up for it (I'm going to have to get some kind of tablet or iPad and a digital music app), I'll sit down and get some of it into my fingers.

If any of youse music reading types don't already have the score, and want it, you know where to find me.

Now I wish someone had done the same for YOUNG GIRLS OF ROCHEFORT, just so's I could grab the music...

I have watched the season of Downton, and I liked it....although some of it drags and there was particularly annoying storyline with a character I dislike......  I did watch the Christmas special this week which tied up some loose ends and set up the next season....including a convenient surprise that turns things around completely.

And it's the twelfth day of Christmas!

I am home. I got to Columbus Circle, waiting for a No 7 or 20 bus, and along came a 5, which means Fifth Avenue. Dropped me off half a block from my doctor's office. The entire trip took around 45 minutes.

My vision is the same as it was six month ago, also my eye pressure. He was happy, I was happy. I go back on May 5.

Afternoon, all!

Sorry about not posting much recently. I've been away from the computer all weekend, due to dealing with the inclement weather and my grandmother's funeral. She was a wonderful woman who had been on the decline for far too long, and I was fortunately able to say goodbye to her.

TOD:
Favorite Italian food: pizza, osso bucco
There aren't too many Kosher Italian places that I've been to, but there used to be a hole-in-the-wall on the Upper East Side called Gusta Va Mare that served a fantastic crostini appetizer and delicious brazzini. Unfortunately, their quality apparently declined significantly between the first and second time I ate there (several years apart). Mike's Bistro on the upper west side served a stunning, if expensive, osso bucco-type dish. Haven't been there in far too long.

WARNING - THIS IS A VERY R-RATED LINK:

This link seems to be almost "what if FROZEN were done with the very extreme language of WOLF OF WALL STREET" - meaning the link is VERY R-rated:

In the wish I'd thought of that department -  (seems to be a devilish take on what the character is really thinking when she sings the wonderful Let It Go)

Afternoon, all!

Sorry about not posting much recently. I've been away from the computer all weekend, due to dealing with the inclement weather and my grandmother's funeral. She was a wonderful woman who had been on the decline for far too long, and I was fortunately able to say goodbye to her.

My condolences, Elan.

Who watched KISMET yesterday?

My favorite part was that everyone had to lean forward to get their hats through the doors....especially Sebastian Cabot.

That was George.

My favorite was Delores Gray.

I watched, and enjoyed, the movie musical last night.

All, I could use some good recording schedule vibes! Yesterday, Rob Berman and I set up one to fit the scheduling problems, but it all depends on Feb 23 being available to us at the studio.

On a more positive note, th elevator seems to be repaired.

Good news about the elevator!  And...

This is bizarre:  In the past three hours it's dropped from 55 to 45.  I guess I'd best get me out there and run those errands.

This weather system does that...huge drop in not much time.  Make hay while the sun shines......

I've played with the schedule, shuffled people and musical numbers around, and i think all bases recovered. I need the producer to confirm we have the studio so I can send out offers and relax.

Joshie's Cancun vacation has gone to hell. He's stuck there, since Jet Blue has closed down Newark, JFK, and Boston airports.  I'm supposed to meet him on wednesday and turn over the rest of LITTLE ME, and I hope he gets back by then.

That's my news. I have to wash some dishes and chill out. It's a MAJOR CRIMES night.  I also have to look for my book. I set it down when I got in last night and now I cannot find it.

Congrats to BK and the young cast, as well as Adyan, Kaye and company for last night's triumph!!

Elan, my condolences on the loss of your grandmother.

That is part of the problem.  The show is being done in Lakewood.  Lakewood is right next door to Tacoma, but on cold winter nights it can be a very long drive from that theater to my apartment, which is as far north as you can get in Tacoma.

So, a new one will be gotten now.

Yes, maybe after the winter is over.  In fact, I have been talking up this one man play about Orson Welles.  However, I need to see if the playwright would write something in to explain why he is in a wheelchair.

I don't ever feel that I churn out books fast until I'm actually finished and I realize how fast I did write.  I think what happens, and it's certainly the case with this new one, I get so caught up in the story and especially the characters and because I only know the basics of the plot I discover things as the characters discover them and it just drives me forward, so I can't wait to write and elaborate each story point as I move forward.
