Well, you've read the notes, the notes were odd, and now it is time for you to post until the odd cows come home.

That sounds like it should be the title of something or other.

In another example of oddness, as highlighted in today's notes, every so often my Facebook feed goes from being sorted by "most recent" to "top stories," even though I never manually change it.  Very annoying.

Good morning, all!  This could be a most fiscally impossible day today and I am a bit fraught. Talk about best laid plans of mice and men! It the moment, all of my misery centers around the US postal delivery, which is not only erratic, due to the idiot manager of my post office, but depending on the carrier. Since there's been no mail service since Saturday, the mail may not arrive before 7:00 this evening, and since my bank closes at 5:30, assuming the check i'm waiting on seven in today's post, I may be colossally overdrawn tomorrow morning. The worst part of it is the fact that the bank will charge me $35 for each overdrawn item; one I can live with, but two or three will be lethal.  This is not good, and this has been my life since November.  I am not amused.

On other topics that I do not find amusing, my doctor, who was notified on Jan 9 that I needed a renewal of my physical therapy, has not done a thing, so i am currently out of therapy. The doctor could be on vacation or she could have left the HMO. In either case, it's one more irritation today that I do not need.

DR JohnG, I believe I may have done some proofreading for Joshie on the score of FANNY, but i rely do not remember. It was a lovely production, I do remember.

When all is fraught, stay busy, so I will run some short errands and be out and about. I'll go to Toyland and send the first and last sections of the choral arrangement to the musical director, then hop on the No 7 bus, and maybe stop at City Center and see Joshie, if his schedule isn't crazed. If Rob's there, I can grab a minute to discuss the Collegians with him.

I guess I'm lucky that my request to my doctor was about therapy and not about a prescription refill. I could be dead now waiting on it.

Great link DR BEN!

LOL....I remember when Dolly Parton had her television show, she would take questions from the audience...

Lady:  Dolly, how long does it take them to do your hair?

Dolly:  Oh, honey, I don't know.  I'm not here when they do it!

When Dolly first....uh.....burst onto the scene on the old Porter Wagoner Show.....everything about her was intentionally exaggerated....she said that her figure was so out there that she just made everything else match...and became the typical blonde country singer PLUS.  And she looked almost like a parody....but then she  sang those songs....and you knew she was the real deal.

Thanks to everyone for the vibes for last night.  The preview went very well....we had about 30 people in the audience....

A few missed lines....and Hecuba - the star of the notes on Sunday - decided she wanted to watch the show by standing at one of the entrances completing blocking the way.....eventually during Act Two, she moved.

The audience liked the show....but the tone of the show.....horrible things being told with some humor....really made them wonder how they should react...which is exactly what Tim the director was going for.....

It is really strange to feel that mixed energy from the audience....something I have never had experience with...but it is a lot of fun.

HOWEVER....I think I have to miss rehearsal today because of the weather!

Eating out:  If grits are on the menu, then that is a given!  Bacon or sausage as a go-with, plus scrambled eggs.
If grits are not on the menu, I'll go with hash browns (with onion, please).

If I'm home with time on my hands and all ingredients at the ready:  Ditto the grits, bacon and eggs.

Otherwise, I love Belgian waffles with maple syrup and bacon.

But, by and large I am not in a cooking mood in the morning, but I will drive to La Farine for a morning bun, a scone or a chocolatine (or all three!!!).  Or I will drive to Arizmendi for blueberry muffins.

If it's brunch, I'll have whatever the waiter recommends.

I don't know from film music, I'll be the first to admit it. Most often, I don't even really notice the scoring when I am watching a film - which is, I suppose, part of the point, when it is skillfully done.

Which is why I was so startled the other night, when we watched the film Silkwood for the first time. I noticed the music, all right - but not in a good way. I didn't like the music, didn't feel like it was creating the right mood for what I was watching, and in fact, it took me out of the film experience and made me notice it each time it appeared. I can't recall ever having that reaction before to any film. I looked up the composer afterward - Georges Delerue. I know he is a well-known and respected film composer, so I was just really surprised. And of course, I speak only for myself and my experience with this one film. Perhaps if I had seen it a different day, I would have had a different reaction. It was, in keeping with today's topic title, odd.

Now I want to play my Ethel Goes Disco LP.

My friend John Baughman used to work the early morning 4 a.m. shift at the local radio station in Greencastle....and he always started his show with Ethel's disco version of "There's No Business Like Show Business" until the farmers complained that it made their cows nervous....he switched to Bing Crosby and the cows were once again contented.

That was nicely put, DR JRand63!

I'm very happy to hear the preview went well, DR JRand63, but Hecuba is a complete idiot. Is she a student? I can't imagine a professional behaving so unprofessionally.

It's hell out today: took me 90 minutes to get to Toyland, but the two-thirds of the choral arrangement is converted to pdf files and sent, along with an invoice, and the money will be nice.

Traffic in midtown is ridiculous; every jerk who drives into the City daily was trying to drive out before the snow got worse, and as result every cross street has become a bottleneck. It was another 90 minutes getting home. Thank God for a good mystery novel.

In Tim's notes today, he sort of addressed the issue with:  if you can see the audience, they can see you, keep away from the entrances until it's time for you to come on.....

I doubt they have to give that note much on The Great White Way.

Nothing wrong is saying one doesn't connect with a composer's music. I don't much care for Delerue's film scores either.

For anyone who may not know, they're the same thing.  It's Best Foods in the western U.S., Hellman's in the east.

And I wouldn't have any other mayonnaise.  No sirree.  Absolutely the best.  Been buying these since someone introduced me to Hellman's in Cleveland, ca-1970.  I kid you not.  Bunch of college kids, and one actually introduces me to a particular brand of mayonnaise.

EDIT:  Which, I think we can all agree, is ODD.

I don't think it is odd at all.  You immediately agreed it was the best, and it is.  That is until I tried Craig's vegan brand.  I was surprised it was even better.  I would buy it except I use so little these days even the smallest jar often needs replacing before I use it up and the vegan brand jar is too big.

I got locked out last evening.  Fearing that it was my WIFI, I turned off the computer and went to bed.  Now I see that we were down for a little while at about the same time.  Hopefully that was the reason.

When I first began to read this for some reason I thought you meant your apartment.  I'm glad it was only the site.

If my WIFI is locking me out of my apartment then I am going to start looking around for Rod Serling.

I just read that as

"If my WIFE is locking me out of my apartment...."

But your roads won't be cleared by the early morning time that you leave for work!

I am starting to think that we may not get any snow this winter.

I suppose it is selfish to want snow, now that I am retired and don't have to worry about driving in it.

I suppose that would be understandable, considering that it coming on to one in the morning out there in snow country.

Had a lot of fun doing day one of the musical theater workshop - just gabbing and getting to know the students.  We had about twenty-four in attendance.  Hopefully we'll have a few more for the rest of the week - the problem is, school hasn't even started back yet - not until Feb 10 so some people never got the e-mail.  I have to meet and see about ten to fifteen more people - and if they can't get in for this I'll come back after school's back and do one additional day of singing.  I'll talk more about it in the notes, but there is one boy who's six-five and if he's got the voice could certainly be an Abner.

I then picked up a couple of packages, a Subway Club and then came home.  I'd written a little over a page before leaving, so I picked up where I left off and wrote three more pages, then ate my sandwich, then wrote almost half the commentary for the Kritzerland show.  This has more songs than usual but I'll get it done by tomorrow and have it out of the way.  Then I wrote another page, for a total of five.  Not sure if I'm liking it or if it needs a bit more oomph and color - it's pretty good as it is, but I think some more detail might pep it up just fine.  I'm going to shower now then hopefully I'll get some inspiration and write another two pages at least.
