Good morning, all! i had this long convoluted dream: I was trying to find a subway back to the Upper West Side, because I was way over on the East Side just below 34th Street. O started walking, and then I was outside Oxford, OH, on the country, heading toward the town.  Somewhere along the way I befriended a rather horse-faced soprano and her brother and this led to a discussion of dueling divas in Oxford and a reclusive soprano living in Oxford.  She had given up singing when her husband and children were killed in an accident involving a car and a horse and buggy, and then my dream went into that while saga. It was an epic.

Around 9:30, I will head fan to City Center to help Joshie and his interns.  We'll see how much work will be involved to get this thing ready for the sitzprobe a week from tomorrow. This weekend, I have to begin my taxes. My appointment with my accountant is in two weeks.

TOD:
DVD:  a couple of Netflix items, the NASHVILLE Criterion blu-ray release
CD:  Dearest Enemy, Roberta, Little Me B'way and London casts, Dorothy Provine, Guy Haines

Good morning, all.

It's 25 degrees here with a slick layer of ice covering the back patio. But surprisingly the outdoor cat was warm. It's supposed to start to snow within the next hour and snow for three hours or so. Interesting. I hope my olive tree survives.

Great show vibes for Mark. Normal Heart is such a great theatrical work that, even as a history piece, I can't imagine it not moving an audience. I think I'm still shaking from the 2004 Raul Esparza production that I saw.

Listening to Elmer Bernstein's fine score for the COMMANCHEROS (courtesy of BK) and wondering why the title song was not used.  Other than it does quite match other vocal western title songs, I think it may have to do the song focuses on Stuart Whitman's character Paul Regret rather than the Duke's character.   Watching Tom Selleck's Jesse Stone mysteries.   Reading Steven Saylor's ROMAN BLOOD.

If you stew cranberries like applesauce they taste more like prunes than rhubarb does.

I think this is the title of MR BK's new novel....or something.

That picture does NOT inspire me to have a prune party.....even if they are "so easy."

I think the little girl on the right had some before she got there.  :D

I haven't seen that preview before....the music was very mysterious and melodramatic.....

Where is the sieve of un-sifted thistles Theophilus Thistle, the Thistle Sifter, sifted?

Watching The Univited. What fun.

I first saw that film on the late show when I was in high school, around 1963. I stayed up by myself to watch it and nearly died from fright when Ray Milland confronted the evil ghost of Mary. I can't believe i've forgotten her last name. The next day i went to the public library and checked out the novel.  it's still one of my favorite movies.

Back from all the stuff.  Of course, I tried to log on earlier and couldn't - apparently we were down for over three hours, which is the last straw, I'm afraid, and they either have to move us to another data center or fix this crap once and for all.  Must write now, but more later.

Back from Cabaret, which was absolutely a top-quality, grade-A production. The sold-out house received it quite warmly.

From DR TCB:

I am going to buy myself a mobility scooter next week

Nice but won't your insurance cover this?

Will it just be for getting around your neighborhood?  It won't fit in your car-right?

It will come apart in four or five pieces so that it will fit in the trunk of my car.  The heaviest piece will be lighter than my current wheelchair.

I tell you, I was so crazed this morning I never got on to post that I was even up.  I wanted to get some pages done but in the end only did one, although the futzing and finessing has to count.  Then I got the Muse Margaret call, which was wonderfully supportive and positive.  She found one typo, and asked for one word to be added to a description.  She had two other little comments - one concerned one of the supporting characters.  She wanted one little thing to be added just so we got more of a sense of the character at that point in the story.  I could instantly see her point, since the way I'd written it skipped a beat and the minute she pointed that out it was really obvious - I ended up doing almost a full page for that beat and it worked great.  I called her and read it to her and she loved it.  But having that in my head I also made slight additions throughout the new pages I've done since giving her the last batch.  And she had one little thing she wanted me to add earlier in the book, and I'll take a look at that soon.  I could not have been happier with that call.

The workshop was really good - these kids loved these last four days, as I did.  We laughed, I had them group sing, and at the end I asked for a show of hands of those who really wanted to do the show - there wasn't a hand that wasn't raised.
