Well, you've read the notes, the notes began the begin, and now it is time for you to post until the beginning cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: RUTILANT!
-
Morning all.
That is all.

Nice piece by Filichia on the actor Edmund Kean with a smidgen of talk about Alfred Drake, who played him in the 1961 Broadway musical.

The Beatles' first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show (providing I had earplugs)
a taping of The Carol Burnett Show
-
Good morning, all.
Coffee, please.
-
Thank you for the Filichia link, DR Ben.
-
Good morning, all! Hope you've bundled up well.
What a week, bk! Much breaking of legs, vibes, etc.
TOD: Not much of a TV viewer, but I'd love to have seen Jack Benny or Groucho Marx live (of course, seeing the two of them together would've been even more wonderful)
-
Good morning, all! I am a mess today, a complete, total mess. I could not get to sleep last night, and, just as I was dozing off, a mouse got caught in two mousetraps I had set and the racket woke me right up. The cleanup, resetting the traps, and disposing of the rodent took me about thirty minutes, and then I went back to bed where I could not settle. I am guessing I got about four hours of sleep last night. I am not happy this morning. Not at all happy.
So, I'm off to City Center and on the way I must stop at my bank for a money order. I discovered on Sunday that I had stupidly forgot to reorder checks and I have none. This one bill must be paid immediately, so a stop at the bank.
And that's my day.
-
Oy!s to DR Elmore. VIBES that the visit to City Center turns the day much better.
-
I have a very busy day ahead of me, and must go E&T soon, and stay E&T for much of it, or things just won't happen.

YOU BET YOUR LIFE w/Groucho Marx
YOUR SHOW OF SHOWS w/Sid Caesar

I think i'd have liked to have been in the audience for the Julie Andrews show, any episode - though a real favorite is the one where Sandy Duncan guest-starred.
-
Oy!s to DR Elmore. VIBES that the visit to City Center turns the day much better.
I just want to stay awake and make no errors.
-
Or otherwise the Mary Tyler Moore Show episode where Carole King made a special acting guest appearance as "Aunt Helen"

I saw this and thought of my favorite Crazy Cat Lady!

I wish that I could go on a bike ride. :(
Shockingly last week I saw at least 4 bikes parked at the train station. Not sure exactly how these people are biking home. Considering the roads are slippery and the sidewalks are not even clear. Are they driving down the middle of the road? Add that the temps are frigid and it makes no sense to me (except that they obviously don't want to have to walk home in the cold).
-
I got woken up at 2am by a crash. Somehow one of my scrapbook cases with drawers (each one has 3 drawers in it) fell off my shelf and onto the floor emptying some of its contents. I have no idea how that could happen. But it did. :(
-
Yesterday was snow. Now today is frigid again.
-
Tuesday morning greetings! My plans to meet my junior year roommate Gail for lunch have been scrubbed due to the weather forecast. I'm just not comfortable with the idea of driving an unfamiliar car on unfamiliar roads with drivers who aren't used to driving in snow. So, here I am at the hotel with a day to myself to read, knit, and chat on line.

DR GINNY thanks for taking the snow with you when you went south!
-
We had a fine show last night....knocked fifteen minutes off of Act One....and a nice talk back with a BIG audience....
Tonight my sister Molly is going with me.....so hopefully I will have a good night, too.
-
DR ELMORE - sorry the electric rodent zapper didn't work for you. I still have a couple of traps which haven't tripped in over two years. I got the round kind that kind of trap/kill so you don't have to deal with....the corpse.
-
TOD:
I LOVE LUCY....particularly any of the Hollywood shows that had real STARS in it....not the ones where Lucy was jealous of Ricky or they were celebrating their anniversary.... As I get older, I really don't like to watch the "other woman" episodes....
AND - Shindig....just about any episode!
-
TOD:
The Carol Burnett Show
Lawrence Welk
and glad that DR JRand mentioned Shindig...that would have been a fun one to see live.

TOD:
I was thinking I'd love to have been in the audience when Mira Sorvino guest-starred on "Will and Grace" (it is my favorite episode of that show), but now that I think more "time machine-like", I'm thinking of "The Carol Burnett Show" as MBarnum suggested. I'd love to have been in the audience when Tim Conway went off the rails and had everyone cracked up and cursing.
-
DR singdaw, did you take that photo you posted on the first page? I have visions of you out walking the dog at that early hour of morning.
-
It's a cool, gray day in Oakland.
No rain forecast.
No rain in sight, so far as I know.
-
The entire state of South Carolina seems to be destined for snow and ice today and tomorrow.
-
DR singdaw, did you take that photo you posted on the first page? I have visions of you out walking the dog at that early hour of morning.
No, but it was taken by a friend of mine in Old Greenwich, CT - just next door to where we used to live! The new neighborhood looks not too dissimilar.

I like how bk says "you've read the notes" in his first post and most of the time I don't read them until after my first post of the day. Although, sometimes I read the notes and don't bother to post on the board.
-
This morning, I dropped the DD off at Petco to be groomed. I love it when he gets groomed, he looks spiffy. I've been to Trader Joes... 2 in fact... the second one to look for their soft pretzel sticks in which they all seem to be out of. I'll try again tomorrow... and the next day... and the next day.
-
There's a possibility I'll be directing (and musical directing) a production of The Musical of Musicals - The Musical next season for the company that I work for. I saw it off-Broadway 10 years ago and loved every minute. I hope our board likes this idea :)
-
I'm up, I'm up - didn't get to bed until two, woke up around eight, turned on the heat, and fell back asleep.
-
I read the notes. What is the theme of the next Kritzerland show?
-
I think DR JANE was once in the audience of the SHINDIG show.....I think....I may not be remembering that correctly.
-
Maybe she was a Shindig dancer, DR JRand. As cute as she was (and still is), she should have been!

I am drinking my first cup of the day of Stash Ginger/Lemon tea. It has a nice zing to it!

Well this sounds pretty cool...Kim Criswell Will Be Ethel Merman in Readings of Merman's Apprentice (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/186996-Kim-Criswell-Will-Be-Ethel-Merman-in-Readings-of-Mermans-Apprentice?tsrc=hph)!
"Picture it: 1970," press notes state. "The Golden Age of Musical Theatre is drawing to an end. But twelve-year-old Muriel Plakenstein doesn't know that. So she runs away from home to become a Broadway star, and meets the Queen of Broadway Ethel Merman, who takes her to a Hello, Dolly! rehearsal where they sing together. When legendary producer David Merrick hears the kid, he decides to star Muriel in the first all-child cast of Dolly! Naturally, Merman takes her under wing to teach her the ropes of being a star...making little Muriel Plakenstein Merman's Apprentice."

Did a LOT of futzing and finessing the previous day's writing, then wrote a paragraph or two of new stuff. Then I went and had a patty melt and a small thing of onion rings, then picked up no packages. Then I came home and wrote a little over five pages - it took me a while to figure out exactly what sequence I should do, but I got it and it did what I needed it to do - I'm about to finish a chapter, and I'll definitely do another three or four pages.

Matthew - That sounds wonderful, and I love that show.
Music-directing and directing at the same time could be interesting. (Is it more usual than I'd thought for people to do both?)
-
George - I don't know wha happened. Thanks for trying.
-
Keith rented THE BUTLER today and we will be watching it tonight.
-
The effects of little to no sleep last night are now creeping up on me. I'll be in bed very soon, and I will hopefully sleep very well.

I did that for Sunset Blvd out of necessity and I wouldn't recommend it for that big of a show. However, for this show, I think it will work. I have a vision of how the show should look and sound, it should be great. I'll have an assistant with me, also. I love this show and sometimes that's all it takes to make it great. The other possibility was I was going to be in it (as the Villain - who most of the time played the piano), and be the MD, but I remember that all of the actors played the piano at one time, and that would be really hard to cast it that way.

You know, as many times as I go to LA, it is a wonder that I have not gotten around to being in the live audience of some TV show or other. I should rectify that sometime.

Tire.
I don't think that there is such a thing as snow tires here for books. I am pretty sure they were just riding their regular bikes. Crazy!
-

So, Richard got back from his meeting about 5pm and we were invited to the Bishop's suite for pre-dinner drinks. Eventually, the group wandered down to the hotel restaurant where we were told it would be a two and a half hour wait for dinner. Some of the folks decided to walk someplace else, but Richard and I opted for the snack foods they sell at the front desk. We had a picnic in our room and watched GRAVITY on pay-per-view.

DR Ginny did you ask how long room service would take?
-
Good evening, all.
Add my name to the Kim Criswell fan list. Loved that voice since "Baby."
-
DR Ginny did you ask how long room service would take?
LOL, DR Jane, no one even thought of that!
-
LOL. It still might have taken longer than you wanted to wait.
-
TOD:
Soul Train. Sadly I never saw Hullabaloo, except for some clips of Donna McKechnie and Michael Bennett dancing on it. But the Soul Train dancers were always better than American Bandstand.
-
LOL. It still might have taken longer than you wanted to wait.
Since the problem was a shortage of cooks, I suspect you're right.
-
A shortage of cooks is worse than a shortage of wait staff, at least in your situation.
-
I ust got off the phone with Rob Berman, and the 2nd bass has been hired. The seven men of the Collegians are now cast and i can relax.
I think I'll go to bed.
-
I saw the taping of "Make Room for Daddy" which was loads of fun. I never really thought about seeing any other shows live. "The Dick Van Dyke Show" would have been nice to go to. I bet "Carol Burnett" was terrific live.
-
Sleep well & sweet dreams DR elmore.
-
Watching the film of "Oklahoma!" for the first time in ages. This may be the first time I've seen it in widescreen and without commercials. I like most of it, but it's irritating that the accents come and go all the time. It makes everything seem more fake.
-
I don't think you can say "oh no" for anyone who passes away at the age of 94 :) I think you can say, holy cow, what a long and great life.
-
Page four? Really?
-
Just discovered that the library has e-movies that you can download. Don't know why that surprises me, but it does.
-
I will try to do another three or four pages this evening. That will put me about ten pages ahead of where I should be if I'm keeping pace with the previous week's writing, and that will mean that even if I only get two or three pages done on the upcoming busiest days, I still be keeping pace.
-
I don't think you can say "oh no" for anyone who passes away at the age of 94 :) I think you can say, holy cow, what a long and great life.
True...very true. He will be remembered and he certainly changed the world for the better.
-
The only time I saw Pete Seeger was when he was marching in a protest. Sadly it was when he was arm in arm with Al Sharpton and Tawana Brawley during the height of the media circus that surrounded her disappearance and claims of rape. (I guess I was part of the circus.) They were planning on marching on the state capitol in Albany, but they somehow took a wrong term and marched into a dead end. It was kind of like the scene at the end of "Animal House" where the band marches into an alley with no outlet and they don't know what to do but keep marching.
-
Page four? Really?

'night

Good night, Jane.

Time for me to leave work. I'm ushering tomorrow night for Judy Collins (http://wcpa.squarespace.com/upcoming-events/2014/1/29/an-evening-with-judy-collins.html)! I need to do laundry because I wore my usher outfit (white shirt and black pants) two days in a row this past weekend. They can't be worn for a third day...my black cat climbed all over me after I got home on Sunday.
Be back later!

Just one more.

Five!
-
Time for a hot shower and inspiration for the new chapter I just began.
-
Good evening, all.
I think for the TOD, I'll just go with the two that immediately popped into my head this morning: I LOVE LUCY and DICK VAN DYKE.
For musical or variety shows, my mind gets boggled just thinking of the possibilities.
-
TOD

I just found out that a cousin in Birmingham got stuck in the snow for 9 hours after her car went off the road. She's at a house, not her home, but she's OK.
Freaky.
-
Good night, all.
-
I have had a terrible time trying to get onto HHW tonight. I don't know if the problem was with the site or with my computers.
-
I haven't had any probs with the site tonight.
-
Classic TV shows that I saw taped (or filmed): Dick Van Dyke, The Red Skelton Show, The Danny Kaye Show, Juke Box Jury, Art Linklatter's House Party, and a few others back in the Golden Age, including several classic game show tapings.
I would routinely order tickets to shows when I was in grammar school in the late 50s. I just liked getting the tickets in the mail - and that included I Love Lucy. But I think Red Skelton was the first actual show I attended - Juke Box Jury was before that, but it wasn't a show like a real sitcom or variety show.
-
I've done seven pages. May try for another one or two in about thirty minutes.

Topic of the Day: I would've loved to have seen "The Carol Burnett Show." Also, any...actually all of the Tony Awards broadcasts!
That's a television show that's filmed with a live audience. ;)

Why are we on page five?

Shouldn't we be on page twelve?
-
I finished my laundry a while ago.
-
That's a post.

Tomorrow's going to be a long day.
-
I can't wait for the concert by Judy Collins.
-
I know that she's had a long and varied career...
-
...and sung many, many, many...
-
...(that's THREE manys)...
-
...songs over the years...
-
...but I do hope that she sings...
-
..."Send in the Clowns."
-
:D
-
I wish that I could videorecord the concert, but that's illegal, and I know that I would be caught.
-
And since we're (finally) so close...
-
Shouldn't we be on page twelve?

I have to make sure that I get some cash. I'm sure that there will be CDs to buy, and it's almost always cash only. I know I could also get any CDs cheaper online, but there's always the possibility of her signing after the show...not very likely, but you never know.
-
I probably would've gotten a Blues Brothers CD and had them autograph it (they did sign after the show), if I'd brought some cash.
