Well, you've read the notes, the notes were finished just like the book, and now it is time for you to post until the finished cows come home.

Interesting twitter quote that was brought to mind by Dakota's situation with that boss who much later got let go:

"They just push and push and push and when you finally break and get tired of being sh**ted on all of a sudden you're the bad guy."

Morning, all! Stay warm & dry! I, unfortunately, did neither, since I foolishly took a 20-minute walk through the snow & rain rather than call someone from my office to pick me up. Eh, I needed the exercise anyway...

Congrats on the book, Bruce!

Good morning, all!  I slept in, and I'm getting a lot of weather news on the tv this morning. I'm still debating my physical therapy.  I moved the appointment to 2:00 thinking that a later time would give crews more time to clear off things. Who's to know?

Beyond that, I have no plans for today. I'll pick up and tidy, and maybe begin work on the recording booklet for ROBERTA. I have to assemble all of the dialogue and lyrics for New World.  I can cut and paste the dialogue, but I have to type all of the lyrics. There is a horrible typo in the DEAREST ENEMY booklet that I feared was my typing error, but it turned out to be an error by the New World Records typesetter.

DR vixmom, if I were dictator, you'd have an official car for driving in the City. I hope your toothache is nothing truly god-awful.

It's Wednesday and I'm thinking it's Friday. Oy!

Coffee!!!!

In 1928, the American artist Grant Wood ("American Gothic") received a commission to create a giant stained-glass window for the American Legion in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In preparation, he traveled to Munich to study ancient stained-glass techniques under Germany’s famed master craftsmen. The window he created was a masterpiece of technique, form and color, but it drew fire from misguided "patriots" who criticized Wood for studying with the Germans — the enemy! — so soon after the first World War. One of the most vocal groups was the local chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution.

Wood’s elegant response: Daughters of Revolution, a satirical painting showing three dour spinstresses standing self-righteously — one, pinky extended in haughty indignation, holding a teacup — in front of Emmanuel Leutz’s famous "Washington Crossing the Delaware."

Wood’s point, lost completely on the knee-jerk reactionaries the painting so elegantly mocked, lies in the fact that "Washington Crossing the Delaware" — that beloved icon of American patriotism — was painted by a German.

VIBES to everyone on this insane day.  Our pleasure here so far has been several inches of snow, but unfortunately we are right on the snow/sleet line, and I now hear the little tap tap tap of sleet hitting the house.  This is going to end up rather ugly.  Feels like a Saturday here, with everyone having prepared yesterday to stay home today.

For those who are curious, here is the window:

It's still in the American Legion hall in Cedar Rapids. Incidentally, the model for the female figure was Nan Wood Graham, Grant Wood's sister, who was also the model for the female figure in "American Gothic."

And I have canceled my therapy for today.  Iwalked out of he building and thought, hmmmm, not so bad if I move cautiously. Then I got to the corner of Amsterdam and had to walk a bit out of my war through slush to avoid stepping into a puddle that would cover my ankles.

I got to he post box, which was a bit treacherous, cleaned the snow off it, posted my letter, and could not navigate mt cane, the ice, a solid spot to stand, and turning around.  A very kind snow shoveler came to my rescue and got me back to the street. After all of that, the market was easy, and as son as I got home, I called and canceled the physical therapy.

I wanted t get my hair cut tomorrow but i'm not so sure at the moment. I have to be at Toyland on Friday for the piano tuner, so I may not see my barber before next Tuesday.

I do love those 50s and 60s recordings.

My first experiences hearing that one were at the library, too, just listening to it there (it wasn't at a library where I could check it out).  I finally got the LP set many years later.  Still have it, and I keep meaning to take it off my shelf some evening and settle into a good listen.

I don't think I ever listened to that recording of Virginia Woolf. I remember seeing it at the library, but the movie was verboten in my house because of the language. (I don't really know that my parents ever saw it, they were too busy having their own epic fights, but someone else told them about it. Those same people hated the language in the G-rated 1776 because they firmly believed that John Adams never said damn.)

Larry, and others interested in 50s and 60s recordings of plays that have yet to be transferred to CD. Good news in the offing. I remember taking this record out of the Minneapolis Public Library and listening and listening.

Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf to be Released on CD (http://www.masterworksbroadway.com/news/%E2%80%9Cwho%E2%80%99s-afraid-of-virginia-woolf%E2%80%9D-pre-order-today)

There were several Columbia recordings of plays about the time of VIRGINIA WOOLF: Brendan Behan's THE HOSTAGE with Julie Harris, Richard Burton's HAMLET, and THE SUBJECT WAS ROSES, as I recall.

OMGosh, DR Elmore, what a devastatingly sad story.

The people who raised those bullying children who taunted this boy are to blame the most.  What's wrong with folks who teach their children such nonsense?

Why not? I'd rather see the animated cartoon instead of the over-inflated mess it's become onstage.

I assume Elton John and Tim Rice are still very close, with the Disney work they did together so successfully.

For those who are curious, here is the window:

It's still in the American Legion hall in Cedar Rapids. Incidentally, the model for the female figure was Nan Wood Graham, Grant Wood's sister, who was also the model for the female figure in "American Gothic."

It is lovely.

The Australian Bee Gees Show was just what I think a Bee Gees concert would have been, minus the multi-media.  It was a great evening and the band sounded very much like the original.  It was a great evening out, and I guess you can call it theatre as the players were acting - being people they weren't.

My question for ASK BK DAY:

I see Music Editor as a credit on films.....is this a technical position that involves editing the music tracks or does this person edit the score before it is recorded?

Your first guess is correct.  The music editor takes the recordings and fits them to the edited film, sometimes having to edit out portions or move things around at the whim of the director and producer.

I'm up and have been so since eight-thirty.  I was out of bed by nine, and then spent a bit of time futzing and finessing what I wrote yesterday.  I smoothed out a LOT of stuff, removed some stuff and added some stuff and it then read very well to me.  I didn't change one word of the last two pages of the book, because I thought I'd gotten it just right.  Then I printed out the seventy-plus pages, Xeroxed them and brought them to Muse Margaret.  Then I had some lunch - a patty melt and soup - picked up some packages, and came home.  There was a message from Muse Margaret, which meant she'd already read the pages.  I didn't listen to the message and I was quite nervous about what her reaction might be, as I always am.  But I needn't have been - she loved the new pages, loved the penultimate chapter and loved the ending.  She was very detailed, as always, about specific things she loved.  She found some typos, and then there were three things that didn't feel right to her, small things, and she wanted me to add one tiny thing and embellish another.  The three things she didn't feel were right were easy fixes and after she explained her reasons it was easy for me to see why.  One of them was one of my favorite things from yesterday - something that made me laugh out loud for about ten minutes, but she felt it wasn't right for the character involved and once she said why I saw it instantly and cut it instantly.  The other things were really simple to fix, just removing a line or two in two sections.  I made the addition, did the embellishment and then called her back and read her those changes, which she was very happy with, and that's that.

This morning I went to my new endocrinologist (previous one retired) and am extremely happy with her, plus she is in town vs Medford.

I also found out the results of my bone test I had on Monday and for the first time in years I am pleased with the results.  After 3 years of horrid meds, which I do have to continue with, I feel as if they have made a difference.  Keith is so sweet, I think he is more excited than I am.  He said I have worked hard for this and I have.  I'm a lot stronger than I was a year ago at this time & it has been a long battle since my broken shoulder.

I miss running & I miss hiking on my own but life is good and going to the gym with Keith is fun.

It was their anniversary Jennifer but I never saw anything from FB telling me about a link to the video.  I just began to see friends putting theirs up.

DR Ginny how is Rob doing with the job search?

He's waiting to hear back after an interview.  They've contacted al least one of his references.

Who can't see this?

"The content is unavailable"

It depends on whether each person has their video as for "friends" or "public". If it is public then anybody can view it. If it is for friends only then you can only view it if you are facebook friends.

I should be set at "friends" only, however, my "friends", except for you so far, can't see it here.

So glad that the news was good.

Watching the new Cinderella. Fairly good tape of it, which is not in Elmore's favor during Victoria Clark's scenes. (I would rather see Rebecca Luker in it.)

I didn't care for the orchestrations on the recording, but they sound really good in their setting. And Laura Osnes is lovely.

BK, why do you print then Xerox, rather than print two copies?  Is it a quality thing, or expense?

I was curious about this, too, DR FJL.

It's easier to just print one copy and then Xerox the pages at Staples.  I suppose I could print two, but it just doesn't go fast enough for me.  I've always done it this way so part of it's just habit.
