Good morning, all!  Did I have a weird night!  My last dream was very peculiar, involving my friends Judy Kaye and David Garrison, some sort of community center, and walk up Sixth Avenue in the rain. I kept having to go back for my umbrella. It's nice to be out of bed.

So, I'm shortly risking life and limb to catch a bus for Toyland. I have things to accomplish and the sooner I'm there the better.

Has anyone given thought to the Feb 9 HHW get-together? The weather forecast looks foreboding, and do we know how many folk are coming out for this?

DR Ginny, I hope things go well with Rob's interviews!

Loved the detailed report on THE LADY FROM SHANGHAI.  The notes made me want to watch the movie immediately.  The last time -- perhaps the only time -- I remember seeing this one was at a very nice Welles film festival at USC, ca-1981.  At this point I remember very little about it.  I have the existing DVD (which I only acquired last year and haven't watched yet), so by golly I plan to watch that tonight.  And I'll put the new Blu-ray on my list.

Yes, we need to plan what we're doing on Sunday.  The weather forecasts are varied on that one.  If it looks to be at all precipitous I'll take the train into the city, so I must needs study the schedules because I have two lines to choose from.  Naturally, the closest and most convenient has the fewest round trips to Grand Central, especially on weekends.  I'll get back to y'all on what it looks like I can do as far as arrival and departure times.

Greetings, all,

Well, we survived 22 straight hours of snow, and today the sun is shining on a balmy 20 degrees. I finish here a week from Sunday - 10 days, but who's counting?  :P

BK, I loved hearing little Brennley's rendition of "Over the Rainbow" - so thoughtful and real and beautiful. Thanks for posting that. I'll think of it during these last shows when our "Ira" talks about suggesting to Yip and Harold how to end the song, when they were at a loss for it.

So, the dusting of white stuff (not really snow, but more like pretty sleet) that blew across parts of San Antonio this morning closed down a few freeways and trapped a co-worker. It took her 2.25 hours to get to work this morning because the cars in front and behind her refused to move. Ugh. We really can't handle this stuff.

I had to Google him...he didn't get the job because of the medical issue, just that he had a medical issue (http://www.cnn.com/2012/06/14/health/mini-vader/) and then made this very popular car commercial.  THIS (http://www.cnn.com/2012/06/14/health/mini-vader/) video/article was when he had a follow-up surgery about a year after the commercial originally aired.

DR Elan, I agree with you. The whole premise is cockeyed, designed to let two actresses chew up some scenery. I don't believe it for a second.

So, I'm crabby. My delivery has arrived but the tenor coming for a ROBERTA score has not, even though I tol;d him between 10am and 2pm. It's almost 4, and no word. Damn!

Back from clean teeth, a chili, cheese and onion omelet, and printing out the book for my first pass at proofing.  I did the first chapter - I could see immediately that I was cautiously feeling my way through the chapter, and there were things that needed to either be cut or changed to match the way I did things after the first three pages.  Really minor stuff, but very helpful.  I'll run it by Muse Margaret this afternoon, just to make sure she agrees, but now that I'm past that first chapter, everything should be okay in terms of what I found in the first three pages, really pages two, three, and four.

Also talked to the publisher and got that stuff rolling, as well as talk to Grant about the cover so he can start thinking about things.  Interesting that the publisher is now owned by Random House - through careful wording I suppose I can say the name of the publisher and then "a division of Random House" :)

I'm unaware of that kid having any debilitating disease, unless it was back story on how he got the gig.  In the commercial, he was a Vader-obsessed kid trying to use the Force on everything.

Thanks for the link.

Just heard the results from my audition (several weeks ago, now). I have been offered a regular weekly paid singing job with a church choir. The church is located downtown, less than 3 miles from where I live. So I am quite pleased about that. I can't be any more specific at present, as the other candidates have not yet been notified. They even had to perform a background check, which I apparently passed.     :)

We're settling in for a bitter cold evening with the chance of ice in the morning. There were few folks at the office this afternoon and of the three of us there, none of us could concentrate on what little work there was. So, I set up a meeting for them (meaning their time would be accounted for in the system) and sent them home. It's probably not accepted practice, but it was the right thing to do.

It's a pretty common practice, DR Jane, for churches that have the budget. They can do more challenging choral repertoire, and it gives the volunteers more confidence. Also, it ensures that all the parts are covered, should folks be ill or away on travel.

That is good that it let you "suggest" an e-book.  I just discovered another review site called edelweiss. It is similar to netgalley and lets you review e-books before they come out. But they allow you to write the reason why you want the book.

Last week they put up 3 of my favorite authors' new books. And I got approved for all 3. I am a happy camper as these books don't come out till april and may.

My appointment went ok yesterday.  I am doing the 48 hour heart monitor thing.  I've had a couple weird reactions to things lately so they are checking it out.  I don't think they'll come up with anything from this.   I'm beginning to think it's a food allergy of some sort.  Anyway, the cardiology department authorize me wearing this contraption for 30 days, but I'm taking it off after 48 hours, as that's all the DR said I need to wear it and it's sort of a pain

I'm scheduled for a physical next week so I fasted and asked if I could do the blood work now so I can go over it with the doctor next week The response was "No, you have to do that in conjunction with a physical and we don't discuss results we email them to you"

I've pretty much decided I"m going to cancel my physical and find a different doctor.  I really want a doctor who will talk to me.  This one would only talk about the specific issue I asked about. He sort of blew off any other concerns I had.  It was very clear to me that if they couldn't put it on the billing program for this particular visit, they won't talk about it.  ARG!

Actually I think I'm fine.  He did tell me several things it isn't based on my description.   I don't think it's a heart thing either. I was actually offended at the way they said that 48 hours was all they needed for the heart monitor, but you never know maybe we should authorize it for more than the 48 hours because what if it happened an hour or two later and it wasn't much more money to go for 30 days.   It's all about money and not about care.  I'm disgusted

The day got better!  Went to witness my 8th grade class receive Confirmation.  I love these kids, this class especially.  We have a great bond, and I think they were happy I was present.  I also went to support the 8th grade teacher.  It was weird not doing the music for a celebration like this, however, that's another story for another day.

My reactions have all happened when I happened to be drinking alcohol, so the assistant in the cardiology department told me to go drink.   I did have a drink after work tonight, but didn't have the reaction.  I'm wondering if it's MSG.

MSG, nutrasweet, aspartame, and saccharine can cause nasty reactions.

In the application?        :)

Nice words in the application... and less than nice at the computer screen

I put up a mystery sound clip in the "Now Playing" section of the main haineshisway.com page - click on it, play it, and guess away.
