Well, you've read the notes, the notes had joy and spoke of Ruth Chris, and now it is time for you to post until the joyful cows come home. They don't want to know from Ruth Chris, believe me.

And the word of the day is: DULCIFY!

The Gidon Kremer concert last night was really wonderful. A surprise that the program was all contemporary music (well, music written since 1900), but everything was enjoyable. Packed house. The Ordway Center seats 2,200+.

Thanks to the posts yesterday, I looked it up, and was surprised to learn that I get NBC Sports, so I can watch some of the live feeds from the Olympics.

Good morning, all.

Good morning, all.
Time for some coffee, I believe.

The history of Ruth's Chris Steak House and how it got its name is kind of interesting:

Time for me to get ready to go sing for the people.

DRs Elmore and KevinH:
They're calling for some snow to begin late this afternoon and continuing through the night. Not a lot -- 2 to 3 inches where I live -- but if I take the the train, I won't get back home till after 11 PM and the last few miles from the station to my house could be difficult. So I'm going to drive down, and I'm afraid I must leave after the show in order to get back before the going gets challenging.
I'll see Kevin at the show, but I'll have to take a rain check on a get-together, which saddens me because I am in need of some pastrami and other delights. I hope DR Elmore is feeling better, but I have to come down sometime this week to drop some stuff off with someone, so perhaps we can get together in a few days.
-
I seriously can't wait to hear this today -- I know it will all be good, but especially the orchestra. The original RCA Victor LP leaves something to be desired, and I already wish this one was going to be be recorded for posterity.
-
I am looking forward to the figure skating today. Starting time in 1 hour!
-
Off to see some friends in the Westchester area today. Very much looking forward to it!
-
Hoping the train trip back is not bad weather-wise.
-
It's almost impossible to believe that Sami Staitman is ONLY NOW turning fourteen. That means she was twelve when BK took me to dinner with the Staitman clan a year and a half ago, and she seemed more like fourteen to me then. (Disclaimer: I'm a terrible judge of age.)
-
Sorry you have to go back right after the show, DR ChasSmith, but I can certainly understand why.
-
Time for me to get ready to go sing for the people.
Sing out, Louise!!!
-
Happy Singing to everyone today-- no matter what your sing is.

"I've Got Your Number"......

It snowed again last night.....just when the warmer temperatures had cleared all the streets. It is still barely falling....I would say we got an additional 2 inches or so.
-
I got to meet Ruth Fertel, the Ruth of Ruth's Chris, a few times when she came to San Antonio. Funny, fiesty woman. Her business partner, Lana Duke, was renovating an old building near the train station for a second Ruth's Chris. The contract work took more than a year longer than scheduled.
At the time, Ruth was not in the best of health, so Lana and her staff threw an opening party anyway with a marching band playing "When the Saints ..." and other New Orleans favorites. Seems Ruth was of the spirit and mindset that she wanted to be there for her own wakes. She held three or four because of all the people she wanted to share one more good time with.

Good morning, all! My sleeping pattern is once again completely screwed up. I don't know how much is the bug I've got or simply the fact that I am spending most of my day in bed. Thank you, all, for the vibes. Yesterday was not a great day, but I did watch a couple of movies and listen to some lovely music. Today, after all of the various unpleasant things my body was dealing with, everything today seems to be settled between the top of my nose and my neck. I will drag out the neti pot and see if I can clean out my sinuses.
I watched Tara Road, based on a Maeve Binchy novel I would like to read, and The Jane Austen Book Club, which I liked more for the cast than the story. My close personal friend Stephen Rea was quite wonderful in Tara Road, but I liked most of the cast/ O thought there were a couple of holes in the plot - like the ending - that the novel might clear up, depending on how closely the film follows the book.
So, I will not be near City Center today, but I hope that Drs ChasSmith and KevinH have a wonderful time. I am sorry that, after all of my work in December and January, I did not get to have a good time with the production or see friends who came in to see the show. I hope you both enjoy the production. Most impotently to both of you, get home safely.

Sunday morning greetings! In almost 5 years of traveling to Lima on Sundays, we've had a "first" today. We left home shortly after 7, as usual, and stopped at Panera for a loaf of whole grain bread. As we drove through Dayton it began to snow and we began seeing a lot of state salt trucks. Just north of Dayton, when we'd been on the road almost an hour, we had a call from the church senior warden who said it was snowing quite heavily in Lima and the decision was made to cancel. We turned around in Tipp City (about a third of the way there), stopped at Kroger for some major shopping, and were home by 10:30.
Those salt trucks must have known something we didn't...
-
Feel better vibes for DR Elmore!
-
We must have a photo of DRs Kevin H and ChasSmith at City Center!

And the word of the day is: DULCIFY!
And The Song Of The Day Is; A SPOONFUL OF SUGAR

Sorry we won't see you, DR elmore. Feel better soon!
-
Sorry we won't see you, DR elmore. Feel better soon!
Thanks, DR KevinH! I'm sorry I missed you this trip, but we'll catch up on the next one. I gee you and DR ChasSmith have a good time today.
DR Ginny, another adventure on the snowy road. I wish you'd go to market for me. I have nothing in the apartment, and I may have to call for a delivery.
-
I'm up, I'm up, barely.
-
I never see copies f the original sheet music before the title change for sale!
-
DR Elmore, I'd be glad to shop for you. Can you wait until March 31?
-
Greetings from City Center!
Man, it's colder out there than a ... well, just try to imagine.
-
Well, I just popped in to say that I have to leave. ;) Today is our first matinee and it snowed yesterday! It's not snowing now, so hopefully, it's warm enough to drive safely. The call time is noon, so if everything's passable, I should get there without much trouble.
-
After today's show, several of us are going to see "The Lego Movie." Sometimes you just want some mindless entertainment to entertain you. :D
-
So, be back later!

And be safe, everyone!!

Still battling the creeping crud. Like DR elmore3003, it is in my throat now.
-
Off to a choral concert! (just in the audience this time)
-
Page 2? Where is everyone?
-
Good afternoon

Seems like I've spent most of my weekend in church.
Oh wait, I have.
-
Tonight is a wake for my Aunt. Kinda sad, she was a devout Catholic and her kids aren't, so they decided not to have a funeral Mass for her. Makes no sense to me.
-
Sorry for your loss, DR Matthew.
-
Thanks, DR Ginny. She's more of my mom's Aunt - daughter of my grandfather's mother. But she was a "character" in my life growing up.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
Condolences on your aunt's passing, DR Matthew.
-
I hadn't realized that Singdaw is among the under the weather crowd. Vibes this passes soon, David!

Thanks to all who sent me vibes.

Like Larry, I've been watching movies. Last night I saw a German film, BARBARA. (No, KevinH--not THAT one!) It was about a doctor in East Berlin in 1980, who had been banished to the provinces. I found the film a bit slow, but it gave an interesting insight into life in Communist Germany.
-
That's the extent of my news. Have a good Sunday, all.
TTFN.

I am looking forward to the figure skating today. Starting time in 1 hour!
Jennifer. I watched the skating live on NBCS. I think a lot of cable companies carry NBCS so they are covering it live. and you can watch online like Ginny is doing
-
vibes to Jeanne, singdaw and elmore...and anyone else under the weather
-
we didn't get anymore snow. just the 1/2 inch from Friday night. it is very cold again though. I'd rather have the snow, but I guess you all know that
-
I'm using my Surface. I like it but am still getting used to it
-
I have not gone outside today
-
From DR TCB:
I'm not laughing.
I laughed as it is so absurd, though I originally thought it was a do not do this sign. Either way, WHY would anyone do such a thing.
-
From DR George:
I said that I know someone who has had Bernese Mountain Dogs and loved them (that would be YOU, Jane :D).
That is an understatement ;)
-
Bruce congratulations on your show and on your new, beautiful copy of Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
-
Bruce congratulations on your show and on your new, beautiful copy of Breakfast at Tiffanys.

-
I watched The Jane Austen Book Club, which I liked more for the cast than the story.
That may be why I enjoyed the movie more than the book which I also enjoyed.

Tonight is a wake for my Aunt. Kinda sad, she was a devout Catholic and her kids aren't, so they decided not to have a funeral Mass for her. Makes no sense to me.
Does that mean she's your great-aunt? A couple of years ago, a friend at Barnes & Novle died, and I paid for a mass to be said for her. Because of the backup, Holy Trinity could not say the mass for about six months after her death. Could not something similar be done for your aunt?

Very cute! I can only hope many of those containers are stored out of reach of the pets when the people aren't there to supervise.

I hope you find comfort at the wake. My sister tried telling me my father didn't want to be buried at the Jewish cemetery. I know he did and I planned ahead to make sure it happened.

Thanks, DR Ginny. She's more of my mom's Aunt - daughter of my grandfather's mother. But she was a "character" in my life growing up.
She will always be with you.

HEALTH VIBES TO ALL WHO NEED THEM!!!
-
Greetings all, and happy late Sunday,
Just popping on to say I hope everyone has had a great weekend. I just survived the penultimate week of shows in Portland, ME, and a week from tomorrow I'll be on a plane home. Honestly, I can't wait.
I am looking forward to seeing the special on The Beatles 50th Anniversary of their Ed Sullivan debut tonight. That will certainly brighten things here for me.
Cheers! :D
-
My sympathies, Matthew. And my sympathies that your aunt's immediate survivors are too self-centered to acknowledge who your aunt was.
-
Health vibes to all in need.
-
I got a good deal of reading done, but, honestly, these books are putting me to sleep.
I have caught up on a lot of lost sleep these last two days.
-
It's 66 degrees and sunny outside now. Tonight's low is supposed to be 54 degrees with tomorrow's high being 54 degrees and more cold.
-
Back! Safe and sound. The leading edge of the snow was just with me or just behind me all the way. Nice to be home.
But what a great show. This performance made everything about it work, the cast was wonderful, I loved the choreography, and the orchestra and conducting blew me away.
Later, some photographic evidence.
-
I'm glad you are safely home and enjoyed the show.

Welcome home, DR ChasSmith! Yep, the Encores! orchestra plays splendidly, and the company is blessed to have the extremely wonderful Rob Berman as there musical director. My admiration and affection for his talents and his humanity are limitless. I love working with him and Joshie, and I need to win the lottery to keep the recording project going because there are to many shows I want to commit to disc and i want Rob conducting them.
-
I've spent the afternoon watching the 1982 BBC production of PRIDE AND PREJUDICE. Although the 1995 version with Colin Firth is my favorite, in its romanticism and yearning it's probably closer to the Brontë's than to Jane Austen. Fay Weldon's 1980 screenplay is very nice - I like the way she handles the famous opening sentence - and some of the cast, especially the Bennett sisters, is stronger than the 1995 version.
-
Where has DR Doug been?
-
Condolences to Matthew on the loss of your aunt

After today's show, several of us are going to see "The Lego Movie." Sometimes you just want some mindless entertainment to entertain you. :D
Well, it turns out that the plan was to go to the 7:30 showing, not one right after our show, so I'm at home and I'm staying home.

Just back from Westchester where a little group of us saw a truly marvelous production of TITANIC, and then we had dinner at a great place called Pete's.

This was IIRC the first time I'd experienced dinner theater. (not counting cabaret venues where you could order dinner)

My condolences, Matthew.

Hello to all DRs. Good health and safety vibes to those who may need them, and condolences to DR Matthew. I was not feeling well yesterday and did no computer stuff. I am feeling better today, but am concerned about the ventral hernia I've developed as a result of the healing of my abdominal surgery from a year ago.
Today I've had Antenna TV on and just saw BK on The Partridge Family, so he (indirectly?) gave me a nudge to sign on. After reading all of the posts since yesterday, there must have been a "steak vibe" since a very good friend of mine who is helping me through a tough financial time brought me a big package of rib eyes on Saturday!

I would think that if she's a member of a particular church, her friends there might do something in her honor, for themselves. There's no law that says the family has to be involved. :-\
-
Glad you are home safely, DR ChasSmith, and that you enjoyed the show. But your report did not mention Trumpet 4. :)
-
Sorry for your loss, DR Matthew.

I surely hope so, too! :P

The choral concert was great. It involved a choir, of course, but also a pianist, several percussionists, soprano and tenor soloists, a superb brass quintet, art work, and puppets.
GIANT puppets.
-
Sorry for your loss DR Matthew
-
Thank you DRs Jane and singdaw!
-
I decided to do my PEO program on the history of women in the Olympics. It's really quite fascinating
-
Sounds good Cilla.
-
Welcome back, DR Dan M!
-
What is this page four malarky. Let's get some frenzies goin' on.
-
Judged the singing contest - some really good talent there this year. Then I came right home and called Muse Margaret and we went over everything I'd proofed. Then I proofed the final three chapters and then we went over those, and now I'm entering those fixes. It's lots of tiny stuff, which I'll finish tonight and then I'll print out copies tomorrow and also e them to my proofers.
-
BK, I don't know if you saw my earlier post, but your appearance on Antenna TV reminded me to log on today! I say there is value to classic television situation comedies.
Great to hear about your latest magnum opus! Magnum opus vibes!

Keith is popping corn and I am going to have some tonight.

I had popcorn for lunch.

my face is less swollen now I just look like I have terrible jowls

I finished PRIDE & PREJUDICE, watched DOWNTON ABBEY, and I'm heading for bed. I'm hoping to back to physical therapy tomorrow for the first time in a week and four days, and I am looking forward to it. I'll see how I feel in the morning.
I heard from the friend I jilted for lunch yesterday. All is good, and I'll see him when he comes up for THE MOST HAPPY FELLA at Encores!
-
Get Well Vibes for Jeanne
-
I am sorry I was not able to get to Little Me today I look forward to the full report
-
Watched last week's Downton Abbey and this week's Downton Abbey ... but we missed a week while we were away
-
I think Elizabeth Garvie is the best of the Miss Elizabeth Bennett's on screen. Jennifer Ehle in the1995 production isn't bad, but Garvie nails it, as do Natalie Ogle and Tessa Peake-Jones as Lydia and Mary Bennett.
-
Get well vibes to everyone not feeling well.

So here's my Book Report on The Saga of "Star Wars": a few weeks ago, a coworker (also named George) and I were talking in our staff room about "Star Wars" and the original versions vs. the "special" editions. He wanted the original theatrical versions to show his 15 year old daughter (just because), but the set that has the original versions are pretty expensive. They were only released once on DVD with the "special" edition BUT the original versions were on the bonus discs and NOT anamorphically enhanced, so they're essentially full-frame widescreen (when you watch them on widescreen TVs, they're "windowboxed" with black bars around all four sides, not just the top and bottom). I have a videotape set of the original versions, but they’re copy-guarded. One of my staff (Ruth) was also in on the conversation and she said that she has (shhh...don't tell anyone!!) a device to override copy-guarding. I borrowed it and was able to burn a DVD of "Star Wars" but it looks worse than the videotape. :P
-
Then I remembered that they were released on laserdisc, which are not copy-guarded at all. ;) I wanted them in a digital format, so I looked on eBay and watched a few sets and eventually won a set of the "Special Widescreen Edition" of the original version. They arrived last week and I was so excited to start recording them! That night, I started recording the first side of the first disc of "Star Wars," and when it stopped, I hit the eject button on my player...but nothing happened! The drawer wouldn't open! I hit the button again and nothing happened. I hit the play button and nothing happened! I turned off the power and turned it back on and again, NOTHING HAPPENED! And nothing worked. :( So, I left the disc in the player and the next day brought it to a local place that repairs all kinds of players. They were able to fix it AND get the disc out! I just got it back yesterday and was FINALLY able to watch and record my own DVD of "Star Wars"! I will also be making copies for several friends. Granted, it'll be windowboxed, but it's copyable.
-
After I came home from "The House on Pooh Corner" today, I watched and recorded "The Empire Strikes Back." I'm going to watch and record "Return of the Jedi" but before I do, I'm now watching my purchased DVD of Episode II and will watch Episode III next. A couple of months ago, a friend posted on Facebook a link to someone's blog about the best way to watch the Star Wars series to maximize the enjoyment and minimize the frustration. It's called The Machete Order (http://www.nomachetejuggling.com/2011/11/11/the-star-wars-saga-suggested-viewing-order/) and makes a lot of sense! You watch them in this order: IV, V, II, III, VI.
-
Notice that Episode I isn't included. He explains the reasons why it makes sense (essentially, II and III become an extended flashback), but he also admits a few drawbacks. I've watched IV and V and now I'm watching II while the DVD for V is burning. I'll then watch III and finally watch and record the last laserdisc of VI tonight. I've never had a movie marathon before. It's pretty interesting seeing them again after all these years...and in this order.
-
DR Dan, VIBES YOU FEEL BETTER SOON AND DON'T NEED MORE SURGERY!!!
A double dose for DR Dan.
-
Let's get a move on!
-
Five!
-
Went to a Chinese New Year dinner tonight. Way too many courses of food.
-
Watching Eddie Cantor in Whoopie. The jokes were old when they were new, and somehow I'm still smiling at some of them.

I am not familiar with The Machete Order, but do partly agree with the suggestion. I don't think the first 2 parts of the prequel trilogy are essential. Parts of Pt. III would be either a good flashback or as I think of it, a footnote (i.e., not really essential but some benefit can be derived from it). As you may tell from my tone, I am not a fan of the prequel trilogy, except for some of III. I think IV is great, V is a superb, dark sequel and VI gets lost in marketing fuzzy little stuffed animals (segue to "Spaceballs" and Yogurt's marketing scene). In some ways this whole mishegas reminds me of "Godfather III" which, I think of also as a footnote to its series, as it doesn't really add anything essential to the mythos.
BTW, I have the "unadorned" original trilogy of "Star Wars" and revile most of the "improvements" Lucas made in 1997 and then again with the advent of the prequels to the originals. I know there is an "internal consistency" but continual tinkering with the originals is off-putting for me. ("Oh look, there's an extra creature there . . . . there's more people artificially added in this scene . . . .") These "improvements" are distractions for me.
-
Well I left a rather terse message on the voice mail of the hotel manager of the Lumberton Country Inn & Suites basically saying where is my phone?! (They have had a prepaid FEDEX label since last Monday)
I just called again and actually got the manager on the phone - he apologized for the delay but said he dropped it in a FEDEX box yesterday - the FEDX site doesnlt show it picked up yet but HOPEFULLYT I will finally see my phone on Tuesday
He also said he would add 25000 point to our loyalty plan which will automatically give us a free night's stay in any one of the chain's so that was very nice

Oy! Oy! Oy!
(I sound like a stuck pig.)
DR George! Before you do another thing, read the PM I'm about to send you.

I am one of those who waited on line for hours to see all three of the Star Wars movies when they first came out - to me they will always be the true I II and III and the others that came along years later I found unsatisfying
-
Even though I can't stand the continual revising he has done, if anyone other than Lucas "tinkers" with the original trilogy (i.e., Disney) it would be this side of Ted Turner's colorization of B/W movies and would lose a lot of old-time fans like me.

Nice! I hope you get your phone soon!
In related news, Delta has added 1000 points each to my frequent flyer account and Richard's in apology for last Monday's 4-hour delay in Atlanta.
'night!
-
I think that we are all in agreement here in regards to our preference to the ORIGINAL versions of IV, V and VI!! :D
-
I'd accept that apology, Ginny.

...He also said he would add 25000 point to our loyalty plan which will automatically give us a free night's stay in any one of the chain's so that was very nice
Nice! I hope you get your phone soon!
In related news, Delta has added 1000 points each to my frequent flyer account and Richard's in apology for last Monday's 4-hour delay in Atlanta.
'night!
Congrats, Ginny!

Elmore, I agree with you on Elizabeth Garvie. She's the best Elizabeth Bennett.
-
Well I left a rather terse message on the voice mail of the hotel manager of the Lumberton Country Inn & Suites
Sounds like vixmom was vacationing in David Lynch country. :)
-
Oy! Oy! Oy!
(I sound like a stuck pig.)
DR George! Before you do another thing, read the PM I'm about to send you.
Replied! Thanks!
-
DR FJL, that must be Westchester Broadway -- a place I've been to only once years ago, and that, too, has been my only dinner theater experience.
(Avert your eyes, DR Elmore):
So, that TITANIC is pretty good, eh?

Tonight is a wake for my Aunt. Kinda sad, she was a devout Catholic and her kids aren't, so they decided not to have a funeral Mass for her. Makes no sense to me.
Does that mean she's your great-aunt? A couple of years ago, a friend at Barnes & Novle died, and I paid for a mass to be said for her. Because of the backup, Holy Trinity could not say the mass for about six months after her death. Could not something similar be done for your aunt?
Of course, Larry. Still not the same as a funeral mass (with "her" there)
-
The wake was nice. My cousin sang "The Wind Beneath My Wings" I played... it was nice. Good seeing family again.
-
Thanks for the vibes and condolences. While watching the video this eve at the wake, I realized how important she was to my family - being best friends with my other Aunt and my grandmother.
-
Okay, maybe someday I'll get good at this.
Submitted for your approval...
The most hideous picture I've (1) ever shot or (2) appeared in. This one takes all the prizes! :)
-
At least we captured the CHICAGO picture!
-
Good night, all.
-
Oh Matthew I was most remiss in not extending my condolences on your loss. Please forgive me . I am truly sorry - I agree that I find it odd her children would choose not to have a mass if she was a devout Catholic
-
SOOOOOOO. does anybody have any old Lord of the Rings posters and stuff they wish to get rid of? I'm at late off the mark but out chili contest is the 22ns the theme is the Oscars and I was assigned the movie The Lord of the Rings The Return of the King...

From DR TCB:
I'm not laughing.
I laughed as it is so absurd, though I originally thought it was a do not do this sign. Either way, WHY would anyone do such a thing.
Sometimes if you are up there, and you need to get down there; you don't have much choice.
-
Entered all fixes and this part of the process is done. I've sent the manuscript pdf to two of the three proofers - the other one gets a hard copy, which I'll print up tomorrow.
-
Then I went and had a ham and Swiss on rye with no fries or onion rings.
-
Now I'm home and relaxing. Started watching a delightful motion picture called The Titfield Thunderbolt - I'll finish it tomorrow, though.
-
I'm not announcing our new title till Tuesday or Wednesday, but I'll open it up for per-order here in the morning.
-
Condolences to DR Matthew on your loss. Regardless of whether she was your aunt, your mother's aunt, or your great aunt; she was an important person in your life, and you will miss her a great deal.
-
Continued health vibes to DR elmore and DR Dan.
-
Took a hot shower - I'm finding that doing so makes me very relaxed and helps me sleep better.
-
I've just finished Episode III and will now watch and record to DVD Episode VI, "Return of the Jedi." I like this "Machete Order." Using Episodes II and III as flashbacks, you don't lose the big surprises, you don't have to sit through the pod races and there is very little Jar Jar Binks!
-
I just started "RotJ" and it's weird...it's letterboxed, but there is less of the black bar at the top than the bottom so when I zoom in to fill my TV image, it sits at the top of my screen with a black bar only on the bottom. Very strange. :-\
-
Will we never get to page seven?
-
I think I know why it was done that way. The subtitles for the alien languages are in the lower black bar and not up in the picture at all, like the other laserdiscs.

I don't understand anything about these posts. Is STAR WARS, Episode I or Episode IV?

"Star Wars" was originally episode IV (4), but then the title was changed to "Star Wars, Episode IV: A New Hope." So now, "Star Wars" refers to the series but for us old folk, it can also be Episode IV.
Episode I has always been "Star Wars, Episode I: The Phantom Menace," which I did not watch this weekend.

Watching the movies back to back, it's easy to recognize that all the movies have the line, "I have a real bad feeling about this (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0076759/trivia?item=tr0742982)."
