Wonderful news for our very own bk. Congratulations on the UK Brain production, and also on the Sammy awards! Well deserved.
-
DR TCB - I thought I had commented favorably upon your new avatar, but apparently that was only in my mind. :P
-
HAPPY PRESIDENT'S DAY, everybody! :)
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
We, like many offices, are closed today for President's Day.
-
It's cold right now (18 degrees) and only scheduled to get up to 30
-
Time for breakfast.
-
good morning to all
-
congrats to bk on the sammy awards
-
Because nobody doesn't like Sara Lee. :)
-
No banking and no mailing today.
-
Congratulations to MR BK on his major awards.

TOD:
So many......but FAVORITE? Hmmmmm.......
Scent of Mystery
The Twisted Nerve/Bride Who Wore Black
Gaily, Gaily/The Night They Raided Minsky's
Earth vs. The Spider
I Married a Monster From Outer Space/Atomic City
Love Is a Many Spendored Thing/The Seven Year Itch
Plus others.....

I won't include Follies, Sugar, and Promises Promises since the subject was SOUNDTRACKS.
-
re: amazon.com and being able to re-buy e-books you've already bought.
I thought that the system didn't let you. I'm not sure though. I remember trying to gift/buy a free e-book i'd already bought and it wouldn't let me. It does show the 1 click option for e-books i've already bought even though it says at the top that i've already bought them. But i don't want to pay again to find out if it will charge you again or if it will not let you do it. :)
-
All the outdoor Olympics events that I wanted to watch when I got up (taped from the night) were postponed due to fog. :(
I really wanted to see the men's snowboard race. I saw the women's race yesterday (about 6 snowboarders race against each other at one time). It was pretty cool.
-
Bruce, congratulations on your major award!!!
-
Hearty congrats to BK!!!
-
I also give a "like" to TCB's new avatar.
-
vixmom - What a day you had, and what a good person you are to help people so selflessly.
-
Good morning, all.
Happy Monday survival vibes.
-
Great news on the Sammy awards, BK. Congratulations.
Always loved a good Sammy Cahn lyric, so an award in his honor is doubly wonderful.
-
TOD:
I don't collect the soundtracks as much as the vocal albums, but I have enjoyed the ones I have bought, especially Laura, Divorce Italian Style and The World of Susie Wong. But the one that really surprised me was how substantial the soundtrack for Evening Primrose is. Such great instrumental music in addition to the few songs.
-
Good morning, all! I slept very well and I thank DR Jeanne for sending those vibes my way. I'm running late, so I have to get to physical therapy. I'm a bit addled at the moment since I cannot locate my cell phone. I might have left it at Toyland, and I'll look for it there tomorrow, but it's go me rattled.
Good news about the Sammy Award!
-
BK,
Congrats on the Sammy Awards.
-
Monday morning greetings! Our forecast for this afternoon/evening includes those terrifying words: Wintery Mix.
-
Congratulations to BK! Will there be a red carpet?
-
Well, my missing cell phone has me all akimbo; I just moved my physical therapy up an hour to 11:15 since i am so unprepared to get out of the apartment.
DR George helped me with this photo from page 12 of the October 1981 issue of BLUEBOY magazine, where the hot new cabaret act "Just Good Friends" was featured on page 12, before the photos of the naked porn stars took over. We were featured as the thing to see in Manhattan.
While I was working at Tower Records around 1983-84, one of the clerks kept telling me, you look so familiar but I can't think why. I assumed it was because of the act or from working at Drama Book Shop or the Men's Chorus. One day as I was leaving Tower Records he yelled out, you were in BLUEBOY!
Oy! the things we do for fame!
-
Fun picture Larry!
-
Nice photo DR ELMORE!
DR JENNIFER - I have purchased additional copies of books at Amazon many times - but I haven't tried to purchase additional copies of E-books.....so I am not sure how that works.
-
I just went to the page of an e-book I purchased - it does not have a link to download again....but it has a link that says "Loan this book to anyone."
-
Good morning, all.
The cold has moved into my chest, but I'm taking my Robitussin DM and the coughing is pretty good. Oy! Haven't had a nasty one like this in a while.
-
Mucho congrats to BK on a couple of very well deserved Sammy awards!
-
Good morning, all.

Feel better, DR ChasSmith - Robitussin DM is good stuff!
-
Thanks for the photo, DR elmore3003! Not many DRs can say that they've been featured in Blueboy. :)
-
Sorry you're in misery, DR ChasSmith.
~ ~ ~ QUICK RECOVERY VIBES!! ~ ~ ~
-
I know that guy in the glasses in DR Elmore's photo!
-
Feel better quickly, ChasSmith!
-
Very nice photo, Larry.
-
I am off to physical therapy. I do not need my cell phone but I want it!
-
Finding the cell phone vibes for DR ELMORE. Check ALL your pockets and bags.
Feel better vibes for DR CHAS SMITH.
-
The omens were not good for me this morning. I got to the bus stop, a location for two buses I can take to 96th Street. After waiting for 15 minutes. with no sign of either bus arriving, I was freezing, so I came home and canceled my appointment for today. I cannot go tomorrow because of a ROBERTA rehearsal, so I guess I'm going on Wednesday.
And I found my cell phone. It was charging and i forgot about that. Shoot me. Please.
-
...And I found my cell phone. It was charging and i forgot about that. Shoot me. Please.
That's kind of like finding your glasses on the top of your head! At least you found your phone, DR Elmore.
-
I know that guy in the glasses in DR Elmore's photo!
He had hair and teeth then and weighed 60 lbs lighter!
-
That photo reminds me: where is that cassette of our WBAI radio broadcasts? I would love to have it transferred to CD. What do we sound like after 33 years?
-
I know that guy in the glasses in DR Elmore's photo!
He had hair and teeth then and weighed 60 lbs lighter!
Didn't we all, DR Elmore, didn't we all...
-
I know that guy in the glasses in DR Elmore's photo!

But some of you age better than this old fart.

I daresay there's not a soul here who doesn't look forward to that chapter in the Memoirs, DR Ginny.

Bruce,

-
Bruce I really like the photo of you with the award announcement.
-
From DR Jennifer:
Would it even have let you re-buy the same book? On amazon it tells you when you have already purchased the e-book. And i don't think it will let you buy it again.
That is what the second person kept telling me and I kept telling her there was a second copy of the book for sale-lol
-
Congratulations to Bruce!
-
BK, I see you're a hot topic over on castrecl.
-
Also, congrats to my friend, Elan, not the one who posts here, but an old friend and playwright. His new short play, Adulation, just won Audience Favorite and Best Play at a Theatre Shorts festival in Maplewood, NJ yesterday.
-
Yes George, I should have been able to re-download the book. I have done it with other books, but then the book should not have gone away in the first place.
-
From DR Singdaw:
It was a good day, and everything went very well. Thanks all for your kind vibes and good wishes.
Excellent news. I hope you feel better today.

I am wondering if my comments regarding it were also in my mind. DR TCB I expect you know I like it since you have your beard :)

Ditto, and story too.

Glad you found your phone. When I have a morning that starts like that, I like to go home and just start the day over. sometimes it works
-
What are they saying on castrcl?
Someone started off asking if she was the last person in the world to know Bruce Kimmel was Guy Haines, and it developed into quite a nice laudatory discussion topic of you.
-
Also, congrats to my friend, Elan, not the one who posts here, but an old friend and playwright. His new short play, Adulation, just won Audience Favorite and Best Play at a Theatre Shorts festival in Maplewood, NJ yesterday.
Good for your friend, DR Ben!
-
Congrats to BK!!!!!
-
We had a little rain a little ice and a little snow last night. Today it will be in the 50s and all go away. I am very happy we got some moisture. We needed it
-
The fact that I now clearly remember recharging it last night and that I saw it was charged up when I went to the bathroom in the middle of the night really freaks me out that this morning I had no idea, absolutely no idea of where it was. Oy.
-
I have some errands to run today. I was waiting for the ice to melt. I can hear the water running off the roof now, so I'm thinking the roads should be fine. Guess I'll go pretty soon. I need to get office supplies, but also need a new billfold. The zipper broke on mine and I put a rubber band around it. It doesn't bother me, but it makes my friends laugh. Guess I'll get a new one
-
We are expecting an ice storm any moment.....but nothing as yet.
-
I am still getting used to Tab Browsing which is nice, but different.
-
Is Tab Browsing related to Tab Hunter?
-
Four!
-
vixmom - What a day you had, and what a good person you are to help people so selflessly.
I agree. You are inspiring.
-
Nice photo DR ELMORE!
DR JENNIFER - I have purchased additional copies of books at Amazon many times - but I haven't tried to purchase additional copies of E-books.....so I am not sure how that works.
That's what we are wondering about the e-books. It wouldn't really make sense that it would let you purchase an additional copy unless you clicked the gift option. Why would someone want the same e-book on their same account?
-
I found tab browsing to be useful when doing research. Easier than having six or seven windows open
-
From DR Jennifer:
Would it even have let you re-buy the same book? On amazon it tells you when you have already purchased the e-book. And i don't think it will let you buy it again.
That is what the second person kept telling me and I kept telling her there was a second copy of the book for sale-lol
But would it have you let you buy the same e-book to the same account twice? So how did you end up getting it back?
-
Score!
-
Will shortly have a little work session, then lunch.
-
I can never find castrcl nor do I know what it is.
-

That is crazy that you can go from so cold and then get 50s in the winter.
I think we are actually supposed to warm up towards the end of this week (but maybe only barely 40F). And that is super unusual. IT has been freezing or under 30F the whole winter.
-

Have you been to the ice caves at the apostle Islands in Wisconsin?
-
I have not, DR DakotaCelt, but apparently they are packing in the visitors now while it is possible to walk over the lake; a rare event.
-
Congratulations to BK on the Sammy Awards!
Like the fella once said, "Ain't that a kick in the head?"

The Zsa Zsa and Charo Performing Artistes Series Presents:
Zsa Zsa and Charo in:
Ailurophilia
[Both looking askance, Zsa Zsa and Charo in unison using BBC Standard English]:
We only speak English and will not say the word "ailurophilia" as it sounds naughty and we are never, ever naughty.

My favorite Kritzerland soundtracks so far include:
Firstly and foremostly, the Venerable Sir BK's wonderful corrected release of "Casino Royale" (1967);
It's not unusual, but next I have to list "Tom Jones";
Unfortunately for some DR’s earworms, oh you pretty Chitty Bang Bang, "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang", I love you;
You may be a "One-Eyed Jack{s}" around here, but I've seen the other side of your face;
Honey, pull down "Tristram Shandy" again for me, will you, and play some of "The Missouri Breaks"?;
Not to be a name-dropper, but as William M. Gaines would say, "It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World"!;
According to "Inspector Closeau", "there is a time to laugh and a time not to laugh and this is not one of them";
I have no coolness in me at all, except when I'm listening to "The Molly Maguires"; and,
One of mine and Bash Brannigan's all-time favorites, "How to Murder Your Wife”.
-
I do like the Brain from Planet X
Love your prose Dan!

The supervisor removed it from my books and then put it back in, how I'm not exactly sure. I told Keith to watch for any credits or charges because I'm not positive she didn't do it with my credit card. It is what she originally was going to do but after I said that was stupid, or something a bit kinder, I think she managed it without the card. It is funny how many ways they wanted to "fix" the problem that I refused because it didn't make sense to me. It really annoyed me I wasn't permitted to speak to a supervisor when I first requested one. I have a survey to fill out. I hope there is room to express my displeasure.

Oh, I did have to do something from my end on the Nook. Once the book was downloaded it still didn't show up for me to read it. She told me how to add it back into my books. The 2nd person I talked to wanted me to add all my books back in. I don't know how the Kindle works but on the Nook that would have opened every darn book back onto my home page-no way was I doing that.

Expecting March already?

I've been ready for March since December!

Jane, is your profile a picture you? You look adorable!
Yes it is and thank you. I still remember the day my father took the photo.
-
Got the third proofer's stuff back and have already entered the easy stuff - she caught a few things no one else, including me, has caught. I have to run about ten things past Muse Margaret who isn't home at the moment. Once we decide on those, then the book goes to Grant, hopefully by the end of today.
-
Had our short work session, then had lunch, and then had to deal with a bit of silliness from our theater - it never ends, I guess.
-
Congrats on your Awards, BK!

We had ice covered by an inch of snow. It was 54 today and it's all gone. I'm starting to like this, think I'll quit wishing for snow and start wishing for spring rains
-
Sweet photo DR Dan.
-
Muse Margaret should be home shortly - would really like to get this to Grant sooner than later.

"From the Greek "ailouros" (cat)"
Other than that I don't know-lol

It has not been a fun Monday at work. Fruitful, yes. Fun, no.

Holy Communion, Batman, some of the grammatical/verbal mistakes in this story are hilarious. Thankfully, I have never mixed up the words Eucharist and uterus.

Funny. With constant use some of these might become acceptable foods in the dictionary.
One of my pet peeves, instilled in me by my father the doctor, is "I am nauseous". The proper word was nauseated. If you were nauseous it meant you made others nauseated. Due to misuse of the word it now has two definitions.

Enjoy the show tunes and 70's music and array of vocalists on my iPod. Oh, and that Playlist that says "The Matt Tracks" - that's me.. I don't want to hear that any of those tracks get any sort of air play or wind up on youtube.
Also, that guitar is not really a Fender and it doesn't stay in tune when you play it. In fact, I was in the market for a new one, enjoy whatever you can out of it, or for the $29.99 you may get if you pawn it. It sucks.
But most of all, thank you for not damaging my car in any way. It makes everything else seem not so important anymore.

Unlike you I don't have that many books unread. Once I read them I put them into the "Nook Cloud". All I ever see are the unread, or currently reading, books.

I read through part of it.. You know, he cant even come up with a good explanation for her.. I shook my head as I read part of it. Basically he is calling us callous and liars. Sad commentary, actually.
To be honest I think there is a lot of coverup going on by the University. I seriously suspect she had something on someone. I found it very odd that an earlier provost was forced out and this guy took over. He was forced out about 2012 and he went back to teaching. He was friendly with the dean. Almost too freindly. When I was the library it was one of the few rare times i would see her crack a smile was with Bresciani and Schnell. IMHO, I think something was covered up and the University wants the press to remain quiet it on along with staff at the university.

Matt
Having been through a burglary and suffering the aftermath (i.e., trying to work with the insurance company and figuring out what is missing), I am with you.

Jack, you can't find CastRecL because it's not an Internet site. It's a moderated e-mail list serve, much like the old e-mail sites of years ago at the beginning of the Internet.
The overall theme of the list is musical theatre but there are sometimes off-topic messages. You have to send a note to the moderator with a verifiable e-mail address. He then approves you and you start receiving the e-mail, either as they are sent or you can choose to get one e-mail every day which contains all the e-mails posted that day.
There is a regular coterie of posters (Larry among them) and there are hundreds (or perhaps even thousands though I doubt that number) of lurkers who may post once a year, or less. I am one of those lurkers. It's sometimes very interesting but also sometimes when someone gets a bee in their bonnet it can get tedious. There are some people on the list who feel they know everything there is to know about every aspect of musical theatre. They also feel there is only one opinion, theirs, and that opinion can't possibly have anything wrong with it because it's their opinion. All other opinions need not apply. That's when it gets tedious. If you get the e-mails as they come in you learn which people can be deleted without reading their post(s).

Poetry on ailurophilia day:
Why is it acceptable to feel this way about dogs yet cat lovers are laughed at?
Jane, the poem was from the cats point of view
-
We had a cat that was best friend's with the dogs. She didn't bark or sniff butts-lol
-
Cats are interesting creatures.... I have not quite figured them out.. They can be sweet and then they can be moody.

Congratulations on your well deserved awards BK
-
Hello, everyone.
-
Matt I am very sorry about your burglary - we went through that last fall when the Vixter's car was broken into and all her art supplies were stolen. I appreciate your sincerity in being thankful that no damage was done - in her case the drivers side window was smashed with a piece of concrete and there are still slivers of glass turning up months later
VIBES you are able to retrieve your music
-
A BIG CONGRATS to BK for AWARD #1!
AN EVEN BIGGER CONGRATS to BK for AWARD #2!
-
GET-WELL-SOON VIBES to DR Chas and any other DRs still under the weather.
-
TCB I too failed to tell you how much I like your new avatar ---
my very favorite of your avatars though, is the one where you are bearded, and in profile facing right. It was from one of your shows, I think, but I am not sure which one.
-
DR Matthew, I'm sorry about the break-in, but you are right: you're fortunate that your car itself wasn't damaged. I hope you're able to replace your music without too much trouble.

I've liked them all, but the one Vixmom just mentioned is probably my favorite, too.

Holy Communion, Batman, some of the grammatical/verbal mistakes in this story are hilarious. Thankfully, I have never mixed up the words Eucharist and uterus.

Funny. With constant use some of these might become acceptable foods in the dictionary.
You learn something every day.... I didn't even know the dictionary approved foods!

You're quite welcome. I'm glad you got a good night's sleep.
-
Elmore, it may make you feel better to know that I once called my cell phone only to find it ringing in my pant's pocket
-
well we are supposed to get another 3 inches between midnight and rush hour so another morning of getting up early to clear the drive and the cars before heading into work
-
Elmore, it may make you feel better to know that I once called my cell phone only to find it ringing in my pant's pocket
Now that sounds like something I would do

today was a regular work day.... well I say regular in as much as we were at the office for a full day
Of course we couldn't accomplish anything as everyone of our customers were off for the day
-
Elmore, it may make you feel better to know that I once called my cell phone only to find it ringing in my pant's pocket

and then a couple of weeks ago I put my phone down and drove 500 miles away before noticing

Landlines have one big advantage: you can't lose them.
-
When I can't find something it's usually right where it's supposed to be and I just didn't see it. I'm very good at looking right at something and not seeing it. I've learned to keep looking at where it's supposed to be.

Winter-begone vibes to those who need it.

Vixmom, is your last dental procedure now history? No more swelling or discomfort?

Elmore, it may make you feel better to know that I once called my cell phone only to find it ringing in my pant's pocket
It doesn't make me feel any better, but it sure made me smile.

Thank you, Ben. As another of the lurkers and one who has almost withdrawn my name on several occasions when it has gotten tedious, that's an awfully accurate depiction of the entity known as castrecl.

Oh, I did have to do something from my end on the Nook. Once the book was downloaded it still didn't show up for me to read it. She told me how to add it back into my books. The 2nd person I talked to wanted me to add all my books back in. I don't know how the Kindle works but on the Nook that would have opened every darn book back onto my home page-no way was I doing that.
on my kindle when i download a book it just appears on my kindle. And then i sort it into a corresponding folder (by author or genre).
Unlike you I don't have that many books unread. Once I read them I put them into the "Nook Cloud". All I ever see are the unread, or currently reading, books.
I have all my e-books on my kindle including the ones i've read. Once i read them i move them into read folders (in various genres).
You're right i do have a lot of unread e-books. I had bought a lot of free ones when i first got my kindle. Plus i have a bunch of deals (99 cents or $1.99 ) for books I really want to read at some point. With all of the series i read there are so many books that i'm wanting to read but just haven't gotten the chance to yet.

I wouldn't say moody, just good at letting you know if you have displeased them :)

we were going crazy looking for the portable handset for the house phone one day - apparently "someone" was looking out the front window while talking on the phone , finished the call, placed the hand set on windowsill and drew the curtains....

oh that makes me crazy! or he takes it with him but doesn't turn it on- my Mom does that as well
the Vixter is tired of hearing me yell, "It's the blasted communication age! Why can't I ever get anyone to answer the phone!?!"

sometimes I don't say "blasted"

Thanks for all your support. All my music is backed up on 2 external hard drives, so nothing was lost on the iPod.

DR Elmore, I'm glad you found your phone :)

Vibes to Matthew!

Congratulations to BK for his pair of Sammys.

We, like many offices, are closed today for President's Day.
I had the day off, too. I was just going to stay home and watch TV, but my friend Margo called and asked if I wanted to go to the movies with her and Marsha. I said, "Sure!" We went to see "Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit." I'd never seen any of the Jack Ryan movies before, but this was pretty good. Very tense action and mostly believable (for the most part) and the story made sense (for the most part). ;) It did have the droning mood music but otherwise, a pretty good movie, I thought.
-
I'm watching "The Music Man" on TCM. Can't beat that. :D

Glad to help! That is a great picture, too!
-
So sorry that happened to you, DR Matt! :(
-
Thanks for all your support. All my music is backed up on 2 external hard drives, so nothing was lost on the iPod.
well that is something at least

"Marian the Librarian" is on now. I love this number and the dance.

DR TCB - I thought I had commented favorably upon your new avatar, but apparently that was only in my mind. :P

Topic of the Day (just a representative sampling):
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Evening Primrose (even though it's TV, it's a soundtrack)
The First Nudie Musical
Heaven Can Wait/Racing With the Moon
It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World
The Little Shop of Horrors
The Missouri Breaks
Two For The Seesaw
thanks George! I now have Chitty Chitty Bang Bang stuck in my head... again! :-)
And I thought I would share my earworm!

Shoot me. Please.
There've been several times where I've set down my phone while doing something and I forgot where I put it. Fortunately, I've never lost it. Hopefully, I won't.

One Grecian Urn.
Shirley's singing "Being In Love" right now.

What are they saying on castrcl?
Someone started off asking if she was the last person in the world to know Bruce Kimmel was Guy Haines, and it developed into quite a nice laudatory discussion topic of you.
I get the daily digest and everything that I've read so far has been quite complimentary.

The band instruments have arrived!

The fact that I now clearly remember recharging it last night and that I saw it was charged up when I went to the bathroom in the middle of the night really freaks me out that this morning I had no idea, absolutely no idea of where it was. Oy.
When I charge my phone I leave it on top of my purse so I don't forget about it. Maybe you can charge your phone next to your keys.
I have a couple of long-life batteries and since they're bigger than the regular ones, they charge on the charger without being attached to my phone. When one battery is getting low (one bar of power), I put in my other battery to charge at night and it's right next to my bed on a dresser, so I can't miss it. I swap it out in the morning and am good to go.

Got the first blurb for the book - it's wonderful, but I've asked to have two little things changed because we don't want to give too much of the plot away. So, I can't show the blurb till that's done.

I just caught the joke when Harold and Marian are on the foot bridge and Marcellus get's Harold's attention. Harold makes the excuse that he's expecting a phone call from Rudy Friml.

Tonight (at midnight, so it might technically be tomorrow), Jimmy Fallon has his first episode as the host of The Tonight Show. I'll watch it to see what's different than his "Late Night" show. I really liked it, but I usually only watch pretty much talk shows if there's a guest that I want to see.

I just took the plunge and submitted my application to return to the University of Arizona since I am now in remission. I'm a bit nervous, but I need to move forward to be a part of the world again.

I would like to add that being here with everyone is a big part of my recuperation. Bruce and HHW and everyone here have brought out my creative side, which I know I will continue to nourish in this supportive environment. (I will stop now before I make any more corn, which I hope I haven't.)
