Well, you've read the notes, you've combed through the notes, and now it is time for you to post until the combed cows come home.

I'm watching "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon."  He always seems to really be enjoying himself and that makes me enjoy his shows, too.  That's one thing I like about him as opposed to Jay or David. :)

TOD:
I never used gunk in my hair, either. But for a time as a youth I used "Head & Shoulders" shampoo. I didn't have dandruff; I guess I was just influenced by all the television ads. Until my pediatrician told me that if you didn't HAVE dandruff, using "Head & Shoulders" could CAUSE it. Don't know to this day if that is true or not, but haven't used it since. I don't know if they even still produce it.

I guess I used a comb at home, but I never carried one with me.

Good morning, all!  I slept well, with one long dream about the show MATILDA, which I have no urge to see and God alone knows why I dreamed about that! Earlier, I had an unsettling nightmare; i remember waking around 1:30, alarmed and happy to be awake.

Today, I will head down to Toyland around 9:30 or so, I have a rehearsal with ur leading man, the actress playing his bitch fiancee, and the actor playing the other man.  We should be finished around 3:00, and I will head back uptown.

I got this email yesterday from the incinnati Men's Chorus conductor about the choral piece I arranged:
The arrangement sounds FABULOUS!!!  The guys just love singing it and the nicest thing is that the voicing is smooth and well-written.  You would be amazed and saddened by the lack of quality writing for men's chorus lately; few people know how to write well with good voice-leading and interesting yet not-too-complicated harmonies.  We just read it last week and, after working through all three sections, the guys wanted to sing it through AGAIN!

I guess they're happy. I have to get some work on the orchestration this morning. I'd like to post it by Friday.

More coffee!

Good morning, all.

I think it's safe to say the worst is over, last night having been that very worst what with feeling slightly feverish and all.  But that broke in the middle of the night, and it's such a wonderful thing to recognize that you've just turned the corner.

Who's paying for it? I have no money these days, as everyone on HHW is well aware from my pissing and moaning. Also, I'm not particularly enamored of seeing either of my siblings since they're the major hurdle of selling that Ohio property, and I may only be back when I sue them. I'm seriously thinking about it. Maybe I can give the Macbeths a stroke!

Crural The Word of the Day or, Cross Words

Zsa Zsa [having a bad hair day]: Dahlink, can you lend me your comb?  My hair was just vashed and nothink can be done vit it.
Charo [glaring at Zsa Zsa]: I won't give it to you.  I don't want your cu-chee cu-chee cooties or dandruff anyway.
Zsa Zsa [bewildered, hair and otherwise]:  You are very crural!

Regarding combs and hair gel: I never liked carrying a comb.  The only time I would was on Photo Day when I was in elementary and high school.  A friend of mine who used a pick, frequently dropped it on the ground, which was gross to me.  I never used Vitalis or gel.  My neighbor in the 70s and 80s, who himself was in his 70s or 80s (a WW II vet Seabee) told me that when there was nothing to make adult beverages with on ship, Vitalis was what they drank.  So, that was the end of that.  However, when I did have bad hair days and I had more hair I would wet my hair with tap tap tap water only.  I was follicularly challenged prior to chemo, but now my hair has grown back and looks better than before for some strange reason.

SUPER VIBES FOR DR DAN!!!

When will you know if you are returning to work?

I was perusing the University of Arizona's employment opportunities and found a listing posted by the woman who is in charge of benefits (and who knows all about my illness and leave).  The listing ends on February 28, so I decided yesterday that I would update and spruce up my resume and letter of interest.  By midnight last night, I was ready to upload to the job posting and I'm guessing that sometime by the end of this month I will be contacted.  From what I know of HR practices, if I am selected for an interview, that would occur at the beginning of March.  There are 2 other listings for which I may apply.  However, now that I am back in the mix, even if this particular job posting should not pan out, my resume and information is current on the HR website, and 99% of the HR people know me or know of me, so there may be other opportunities I don't know about at this time.

However, if BK should require my services, I would gladly work for him and relocate to Cal.  I'm always ready for new careers and learning new things.  I am at the point now that I am very happy to be here because last year at this time, my future looked pretty dim.

Greetings, all, from the much warmer west coast! So happy to be home from Maine's worst winter ever (said the locals).

I almost didn't make it. Another plane delay out of Portland to Newark, with only an hour window to change planes to begin with.
They said not to wait until today to leave, as I might not get our for four days to a week with two more storms coming in. The voice in my head said, "Run, Forrest, run!!"
And I did. I sprinted when we landed at Newark from gate 109 to 71, and just made the plane. Had no food or water to bring, but I made it. Then the plane sat for an hour delay of its own, because a crew member yanked the door so hard he broke something on the handle.

Anyhoo, a harrowing day, but I'm happy to be in the sun and not wearing ten layers of clothing. Just waiting for my poor car, which hadn't been started in 7 weeks to charge it's battery after a jump. Then, food glorious food. And COFFEE!!  :D

TOD:  I honestly can't remember what I used, but what I do remember most is, whenever I came home from a fresh haircut at the barber's, whatever he used had my hair look great, but it was so hard when it dried, my hair felt like sticks on my head. I kinda liked it.  ;)

Yes, it's hokey, but it's got the great Peter Thomas narrating.  My other favorite narrators are Alexander Scourby (I tried to upload a poem he read, but it's too big a file), and of course Orson Welles, the voice of doom.

You may already know this, but Patty Melt was one of the very few failed characters by Peanuts creator Schulz, aside from Dust Bin.  Manila Folder was the absolute nadir of the entire series, when there was an attempt to enter the Pacific Rim market.

Hey, everybody! Sorry for the recent errantness & truancy.

TOD: Back when I had hair, I was known to spritz a little hairspray in high school. That ended quickly, as I never really had the patience to deal with fancy grooming. Never did carry a comb, though.

Having to take medical leave I would think you would have some advantage for re-employment over other applicants.

That's wonderful, Larry!

Good morning, all.

I think it's safe to say the worst is over, last night having been that very worst what with feeling slightly feverish and all.  But that broke in the middle of the night, and it's such a wonderful thing to recognize that you've just turned the corner.

Great news!

Back from a patty melt and no fries or onion rings.  Work session in forty minutes, followed by a Wechter visit.

You may already know this, but Patty Melt was one of the very few failed characters by Peanuts creator Schulz, aside from Dust Bin.  Manila Folder was the absolute nadir of the entire series, when there was an attempt to enter the Pacific Rim market.

I only remember Pig-Pen and Peppermint Patty.

I hated that I was forced to wear hair spray.  I would cover my face and gag while I was being sprayed.  My hairdresser is a little forgetful at times and always asks if I want hairspray and I always say no.  I don't like anything sticky in my hair either.

One year I was in L.A. for a special occasion and my sister took me to the Vidal Sassoon Salon to get our hair done.  I actually made the hairdresser re-wash my hair and remove the crap she had put in it.  I was pleasant about it and she kindly did so without an argument.  .

As a kid in the 1970s I did not use any product in my hair, but I did use a comb, though I don't recall ever carrying it with me.

In the 80s and 90s I used an assortment of hair gels.

In mid 90s I began getting my hair cut very short, and now I just use Crew Comb in my hair. If needed, I use a brush or just my fingers, but the gray in my hair seem to be good at keeping it all in place, mostly.

Topic of the Day:

I've never (regularly) used anything in my hair.  I've had several hair cuts where the barber/hair stylist put something in at the time, but I never used it myself.  I've also done shows where I've had to slick down my hair, but those situations were for the good of the show...not my own preferred "look."  And I don't think that I've ever carried a comb with me, although when I was a kid, I did use a comb.  Now, I only use a brush.  I don't know why, it just worked out that way.

Saw a movie on DVD today and I could hardly believe how good the performances were. It was called Short Term 12 and starred a wonderful actress named Brie Larson, whom I didn't know, and John Gallagher Jr., whom I remember being the best thing about Spring Awakening.

Found myself getting lost in the story and the characters in a way I haven't experienced with a modern movie in some time.

The very first 1970s one-season wonder show in this youtube compilation is "Marty Feldman's Comedy Machine" with what appears to be Terry Gilliam animation.  If I'm not mistaken, Marty Feldman was in "At Last The 1948 Show" with future Monty Pythoners Graham Chapman and John Cleese:

I carried a pocket comb during my school years out of some misguided illusion that when I combed my hair I was actually doing something good.  There was nothing thick or manageable or interesting about my hair, ever.  I know I tried one or more of those products, but don't remember if I ever used one regularly.  If nothing was around, I'd use water in a futile attempt to make the hair go where I wanted.

I well remember the barber always splashing something on there, and the way the hair would feel walking out after a haircut and for the following day or so.

Hmmm, still thinking about the pocket comb.  I'll bet I carried one longer than I care to remember.  Maybe best leave it at that!  What with male pattern baldness developing early (or it seemed early for me), I did breathe a sigh of relief at whatever point it was I gave up all pretense and just kept the top clean and smooth.  Yuck.  I really don't like my own hair memories.  Maybe I'll find a few pieces of photographic evidence to post later.

Photos of me as a kid are hideous.  Anyhoo, does this hair have something in it?  I don't know.  All I can tell you is that it would only stay in place for as long as it took to get that picture.  Once I started walking across a room, my hand would be up there brushing it to the side or, later, when it was longer, out of my eyes.  (Like in the avatar.)  Actually, I can't believe there was that much hair on my head even then.

I got a small bit of mac-and-cheese, a couple of drumettes (something new for Gelson's) and some Super Chinese Slaw.  Watched more of The Eddy Duchin Story, and am now just relaxing.

Great news, DR elmore!

I did use Brylcreem when I was in grade school and junior high.....believe it or not, I used to have lots of hair.

Me,too! I hated it.

Didn't I see that photo in Blueboy?

Sorry you aren't feeling well, Jrand.  Are you happy with your DWTS partner?

When I was still in rehearsals for IT;S A WONDERFUL LIFE, I decided I wanted my hair slicked back, so I picked up some Brylcreem.  I tried it for the first dress rehearsal, and it worked okay, but it was a little too greasy for me.  When I got up the next morning, the Brylcreem had turned my hair bright yellow.  Maybe they should post a warning for people with silver hair.

Job vibes for you, Dan M.

Good evening. Today I went hiking in the Superstition Mountains. When I got up to the saddle, here was my view:

Saw the new Texas Monthly at the store tonight. First byline in it. The store is little more than a series of captions on noodle soups across the state and I share it with four other people. But it's still a thrill.

Congrats, John!

I'm watching "Here Comes Mr. Jordan."  I've never seen this movie, only the remake with Warren Beatty.

I'm more than halfway through it.  I like it, but I really like the remake much better.

"Here Comes Mr. Jordan" and my laundry both ended at almost the exact same time.  I didn't plan it that way, but it just happened.

I forgot that this was based on a play called "Heaven Can Wait."
